FrameMaker

I am using FM 2020 and would like to avoid having strange looking breaks in my text such as title (or title plus one line) at the bottom of a page and the rest of the content on the next page. In such cases what I would like to have is to see the title and the following content (i.e. body) on the next page. So I tried to increase the widow/orphan lines in the publishing template file (ChapterOutputTpl.fm) for the titles and body elements. It did not change anything. Am I missing something here?

I have lines in my document which use three different paragraph styles in each line. I set up my styles, the first two set as run-in and the last in-column. Then I selected "Next Paragraph Tag" and chose the appropriate style which should follow in succession. This seems to work so long as I start with the first style and type directly into FM, hotting return when I want the next paragraph style to kick in. But I can't seem to get it to work when copying and pasting text, either unformatted from Word or from elsewhere in the FM document. Am I doing somethign wrong?

Get the attached MIF Check the MIF file in a text editor for <StyleTag `sqare 3cm'> There are 3 occurrencies. Open the MIF file if FrameMaker → Although the MIF file contains the reference to the style "square 3cm" only where really required (the copied image), all graphic objects bear this style - and are cosidered to be overridden .... Also the text frames got this! Due to the last remark, it is absolutely dangerous to remove the overrides with Change All This happens for FM-11 up to FM-16!

When I convert my Frame book to PDF, it appears fine. I added a watermark to the PDF. When I convert the PDF to Word, many of the first and last section bookmarks are missing. Clues? Thanks!

When using the mouse to open the top menus of FrameMaker, the menu jumps 1-5 items to the left, making it impossible to select a sub-item on the top menu. Moving the mouse right or left will then open drop down menues several items to the left.  I have to use either keyboard shortcuts, or select the menu and navigate through the menu using the keyboard.This happens consistently when I use FrameMaker on one screen, and not on another.Setup: Windows 10. Laptop with two additional screens connected via a docking unit.

Hii,We have an API client named Frame2xml, when it was compiled using FDK2019 in vs 2013 it was working as expected. Now if i try to compile it with FDK2020 in vs 2019 it gets compiled successfully and dll is copied to Plugins folder in FrameMaker directory. Now while opening FM2020 i am getting an error message as below. I can see Frame2XML.dll file is present in plugins folder.  Please let me know if more information is required.ThanksRam    

I have a FrameMaker table with a Table Title and I want the Table Title to export to XML when I save it to XML. Is there something in the Read/Write Rules that I need to set. Right now, the Table Titles are getting dropped and I am just getting the <tgroup>.

FrameMaker 11.0.1DITA 1.2I'm fairly certain this a FrameMaker issue, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise or instructed on how to correct my ways. I'm still new-ish to the land of DITA, so it could be something I don't quite understand. I defined values for the @product attribute in <topicref> for each topic. Those topics are grouped together in a map (chapter), which is then topicref'd into a map (book). I choose File > Save As PDF (or Print Ditamap) and select Choose a DitaVal. I pick my ditaval file and FrameMaker takes several minutes as it spins through my files and produces a PDF, but the PDF is still showing topics that should be excluded based on the logic in the ditaval file. I know the logic is sound.When I process the bookmap through WebWorks Publisher or oXygen, they both produce the output as I would expect. Topics that should be hidden are hidden. If I process one of the chapter maps by itself, the ditaval settings are honored. It's only when that map is top

Hello, Currently, my team is experiencing a number of FrameMaker issues with complex problems such as a project where we can't print to PDF, have issues printing to PS file, can't save as PDF. We are in unstructured FrameMaker and have no one on staff who originally created these projects. At this point I am beyond forum help and I think we genuinely need someone from Adobe to look at our projects and help figure out what is going wrong. I can't figure out how to contact anyone at adobe about FrameMaker specifically, or how to check if there's even this type of Adobe support available. Can anyone help me out?

What setting should I use to make the date random and never change? Currently it is set to today's date and it updates everyday.  I just want to set it to like June 24 and have that be the permanent date without changing. Do I just make it any character setting without using one of the date attributes? Sorry if I am using the wrong term if I say "attributes." I know there are several date settings and don't know which one to use (if any) if I want to use a random (non-changing) date.Thanks!

I am designing a new template and have stumbled upon a a small "mystery".If I create a new blank document in FrameMaker 2020, write some text and add a footnote, I am going to get an option to add some footnote text in the bottom of the page. It is going to look like this:I have added a grey rectangle to show where the line above the footnote text is. If we look in the Paragraph Designer no line has been assigned to the Footnote paragraph. So how does the formatting work? Where does the Footnote paragraph style get the line from?If I assign the proper line to the Footnote paragraph in the dropdown., this happens:Now I have proper control over the line but the line suddenly jumps up from its previous position.This behaviour is a bit odd. Why is the footnote line not assigned when the footnote marker is inserted and the paragraph created? .... 

Hi,Probably a daft question, but:What can Framemaker do that cannot be done in Indesign?Reason I ask is that I am proficient in Indesign for years now, and I am doing a Masters degree at the moment.The application that is being used in the course is Framemaker, so I am simply wondering what is the difference between them?I have installed the trial version of Framemaker and I cannot see what the target audience would be for this application.Any insight into the intended users of Framemaker would be appreciated so I can understand it better.Regards

Dear friends, I may be blind again - there was ample sunshine today... In this snippet if (oTR.beg.obj.ObjectValid()) { $.writeln(oTR.beg.obj.constructor.name); oFound.object = oTR.beg.obj; At line 3 I get the error "undefined is not an object". Line 2 outputs Pfg - so imho "oTR.beg.obj" is an object. oFound is declared to be an object, as well as oTR is. Where is my knot in t he brain?  

Hello,I know that you can use the reference page to save and modify often used graphics. (Insert a graphic on the reference page and give the frame a name -> use the name later in the Paragraph Designer-Advanced function to insert the graphic at the respective position) But is this possible to do the same with a table? I have four types of tables, that occure several times in my document. But I can't figure out how to insert the table on the reference page with some sort of tag, I can later select on the body page.. Thanks in advanceHannah 

A few years ago, someone in this community sent me a script that allowed me to convert the imported grapics in a FrameMaker document to embedded. There were actually two scripts, one that selected each graphic one at a time and gave you the option to emded, and one that embedded all imported graphics in one step. Unfortunately, these scripts have been lost. Does anyone know where I can find a script to do this, or the steps to create this script?

Hello everyone,I use a master document which only contains insets. I have trouble with cross references:Module 1 contains a table.Module 2 is to cross reference that table ("see table xy").I opened both files and put in the cross reference.My master document contains both modules as insets. Problem 1: Module 2, in the master document, is referencing "Table 1", while it should be "Table 2". I solved this problem by inserting a cross reference in module 1 to the table in module 1, and then copy that cross reference to module 2. The numbers are now updating correctly. Is there an easier way to do this? Problem 2: FM displays the cross reference in the master document's overview of cross references correctly as far as I can tell: source document is my master document, source page is the page containing the table. Once I save the master document as PDF (via Save as), the cross reference seems to get lost. I can still click on the cross reference, but I am not directed to the refer

Lin Sims asked for an option for Paste: Preserve the target formatting. I want to implement this in the script FMfindRepl. So I developed UnformatClipBoard. I needed to circumvent the following problems: After pasting there is no method to find the length of the pasted text range.I need to know this to apply the correct target format. As it turns out that there are no properties defined for the clipboard. I also have not found a method to apply the default paragraph format other than using FCodes. Details for the function listed hereafter: The copied selection must not contain more than one paragraph. Hence the selection must not contain an end-of-paragraph mark. It is not 'looked into' objects. Hence any formatting inside a variable (e.g. font change) or a table or anchored frame is not modified. Hello.Years before we had a trial license of Framemaker to test the useability for us.But we not buy it. Now - we have a customer who have Framemaker and we will check if we cann supprt his documentation.To check this, i would download and install Framemaker Trial again, but Adobe say your Trisl period is over.Sorry - but to decide if we buy Framemaker -  we must try it first.What can we do? I was experimenting with a pre processing stylesheet for a DITA 1.3 task in the Structured Application Designer and would like to remove it now because it doesn't work, but I can't figure out how to in the dialog box. I tried deleting the path, but it reappears when I open the designer. I have looked in the various structapps.fm files, but the path is not there. How can I revert everything to the default settings?

Hi! I have FrameMaker book with a chapter containing a list of definitions and abbreviations.  On the first page of the chapter, I created an alphabet list with links to paragraph cross-references (I created a paragraph style for the start of each letter section) and each letter is a link to that section.  It looks like this:  It works great and I want to repeat it on every page of the chapter - is this possible in FrameMaker? I know how to do it in the pdf, that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks!Karen

I am creating a FrameMaker structured application where I have to save the content as XML. I am going to apply XSLT on the export. Does the content get validated against the DTD before or after the XSLT transform?

The URLs on the welcome page are not working in FM 2019. If I load the html directly in the browser the external ones work (not the document type references, obviously). Is there some way to fix FM's internal browser app?
