FrameMaker

Hi all, This is a FYI, in case you come across this particular bug. A customer's user was opening books in FrameMaker but the book pod/panel was not shown. The book was shown in the Open Files pod/panel, however the Window->Composite Documents was enabled but no nothing was visible, as shown below.  The cause was that both values for RMViewLeftDocked were zero. For FM2020 the first value seems to have to be 25 or more, and I have not worked out the y or second value as yet. For FM2020 with update 4, File->Exit hangs and closing the book in the Open Files pod/panel crashes FM. For 2019 with update 8 File->Exit exits cleanly while closing the book in the Open Files pod/panel crashes FM. In my view FrameMaker should not 'not show' the book pod/panel if the settings for RMViewLeftDocked are below the minimum for the display. I am having issues with Japanese and Chinese translated MIFs.When I open the MIFs the Japanese and Chinese characters do not display correctly.I had no issue when I opened the Italian and Spanish files.Please help with specific details on the resolution. 

Hi, we cannot install FrameMaker 16 (2020) to a Windows 10 computer. We have had the same issues before. This time the given instructions on  helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/update-operating-system-and-browser.html do not help. Do you have another idea, how we can solve this strange problem?Update requiredYour browser or operating system is no longer supported. Maybe you need to install the latest operating system updates first.  

Hi,   A few days ago I created a PDF via Distiller and not with the FrameMaker PDF engine. I noticed that during the print process FrameMaker changed the line break of a paragraph. After the PDF was created, FrameMaker changed the line break of this line back. Bad as this was the title page. My default printer is the local office printer. The font is Google Open Sans. When I changed the printer to Adobe PDF, I did not get this issue.   I did not know that FrameMaker changes the pagination with the printer (as Word does)! I had never noticed this although I work with FrameMaker for many years. Probably I will check, if I can automate this with AutoHotkey or AutoIt. In FM 2020 the little SetPrint utitility does not work, probably because this was compiled for 32 bit and not 64 bit.   But still, why does FrameMaker change the line break?    Best regards   Winfried

I am trying to pull out the values from F_StringsT array but i am not getting exact string values as i want.In my case i have a variable colorType of type F_StringsT and if i use following code it return values as specified -StringT test = colorType.val[0]; In this case value of test is  0x0F19D690and value returned by *colorType.val[0]; is "81 'Q'" (within double qoutes).What i want to get back is literal string "QRH". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. 

I am trying to save the individual documents in a book after making some modifications programmatically using F_ApiSave method but it saves the doucuments as view only by default. But i want to keep the documents as editable after saving. So if anyone knows any params to pass to F_ApiSave that can keep my document as editable.F_ApiSimpleSave is also saving the documents in view only mode.For F_ApiSave i am using default input params and i am saving the document as frame document only.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,When I try to publish a document or book as a PDF, I get the cannot save as PDF because the Adobe DC printer is not installed. I do have an Adobe DC printer installed.  Could someone please help me with this issue? I feel that something is missing, but I don't know what. Thanks for any help. Cheers, Elizbeth

FM 2019; the welcome screen just started showing HUGELY blown up and unresponsive.

Since today the Welcome screen in FM-15 presents only part of its contents - and this in huge size: This happens even if I rename my modified Welcome screen and force FM to create a new one. It also happens with the Welcome screen copied from FM-16 to FM-15. In FM-16 things work as expected. Welcome screen in FM-14 also does not behave. Opening %appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\15\resources\welcomeScreen\welcome.html with FireFox presents it correctly, but this can not be used of couse.

Hello Community,Can someone help me understand how "Show if all Conditions Applied" on the Conditional Text pod?Let's assume I have these conditoinal tags:Model 1Model 2Model 3Model 4Model 5Hydraulic motorConsole 1Console 2--Models 2, 4, and 5 have a hydraulic motor and content related to this feature needs to be shown.Any of the five models can have either Console 1 or Console 2. They're mutually exclusive. I'm tyring to use the approach of "Show as per condition", but the option "Show if all Conditions Applied" doesn't seem to make any difference. What am I doing wrong? Model1Model2Model3Model4Model5 has a maximum speed of 100120130140150 rpm. This is achieved by an electric motor of 100hp (and a hydraulic motor of 50hp).The system is controlled by a Console 1Console 2 which allows the operator to monitor the system speed. Should I go for creating expressions instead? I'm using FM2020.Thanks!

Dear all, Recent experience show that scripts do not behave after wake up from hibernation: In FrameMaker a document is open and one of my scripts (FMmarkers) is used heavily to check and correct index markers. I need to interrupt work now and hibernate the system After waking up the sysstem next day I want to continue work and for that purpose restart the script from the menu. But some functions are damaged I save all open documents and restart FM The script now behaves as it should Can anyone confirm this behaviour - or have an explanation what's going wrong?

I am trying to print a document to pdf in FrameMaker 12, some .cgm files print great, others are missing vector lines. What is going on? I cannot figure this out. I receive no error and this  happens whether I do a Print Book to pdf, Print File to pdf, or Save Book as pdf, or Save File as pdf. This is very frustrating. I cannot post an image due to proprietary information but imagine a car that has callouts to it. The line indicators are all printing out that point to something...but the outline of the car itself is not printing.

Hello FrameMaker community,  i'm currently struggeling to find a way, how to get graphics that are inside an element or get the parent element of a graphic. Given is the following structure: The Graphic element contains an unachored frame with one or more graphics (XML-Output): <GraphicContainer> <Graphic> <xy:Graphic file="xy.eps"> <fm:Frame> <fm:Inset/> </fm:Frame> </xy:Graphic> </Graphic> </GraphicContainer>  There are two options that I have for my usecase:1. Select the frame and get the parent element.I can receive the selected graphic, by executing the following function:graphic = doc.FirstSelectedGraphicInDoc;But i can't find a way to find out which element contains this frame/graphic. 2. Select the "GraphicContainer" in the structure tree and get all children graphics. I've tried to receive the children frames by executing the following lines:  tr = doc.T

Hello,I have plenty of documents split as components in books. I have a specific need that requires to flatten all these components in a single file and help a publication/conversion process to HTML.I currently have several chunks of code that succeed independantly the following actions:1. crawl a book, check every component, and open them individually2. create a temporary file that will receive the content copied in the components3. copy content in component from the first paragraph to the last available3. paste it in the temporary fileNow, I've tried to gather all of this and make it work, but without success. I have the following Element set up in my EDD:When I use the TrainingManual Element, no matter which Attribute option I select, the Context Rule is ignored: I've used similar Attributes on other Elements without any problems. I'm at a loss as to what I'm missing and why it's not working. 

I noticed this afternoon that a book with a promising title is available on Amazon: Adobe FrameMaker For Beginners: FrameMaker Mastering From Being a Beginner to Pro However, I suggest you read through the sample available in the Look Inside feature.  It appears to be some 49 pages of speech-to-text conversion, and nearly every paragraph has inaccurate descriptions of FrameMaker functionality. I found this gem on p9 of 49 after downloading the KindleUnlimited version of the book: I found this troubling, as I've not got the Layout > Paragraph > Clothier in my Paragraph Dressmaker. But on the plus side, the book is "only" USD $20!   Matt

con al versione precedente di Framemaker utilizzavo un  fmbatch.exe e un pdfbatch.exe che mi permetteva di trasformare massivamente documenti .MIF in documenti .fm adesso il programma non funziona più penso che sia per la differenza tra 32 e 64 bit (prima avevo la versione a 32 bit). Potete aiutarmi in qualche modo?  Esiste una versione 2020 a 32 bit?  grazie cordiali saluti  

I'm not sure if the title clarifies my problem. I'll try to explain what I did until this point and then ask for some guidance from the community. This is the original page on Indesign.     This is what I've done to incorporate the same structure on Framemaker.       My master pages have portrait oriented text frames by default. I've inserted another text frame inside the main text frame and rotated it 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Then I've inserted the table inside of it. I've changed the Run Around property of the landscape oriented text frame to "Run Around Contours" to be able to place it in between the lines inside of the main portrait oriented original text frame.        Up to this point, everything went well but right now I can't select the cells inside the landscape oriented table with the cursor. FM selects the whole table when I click on it as if I have pressed on th

I have a paragraph that starts with an xref and within that same paragraph, I have some text that is tagged as italic but it is not displaying as italic. If I move the xref anyplace but at the beginning of the paragraph, the text displays as italic. Does anyone know the reason this is happening and a solution (other than rewriting the paragraph)?Thanks!

I have a requirement to copy all the chapter list from a framemaker book to excel, as we are maintaining all chapters in a different folder also usig framemaker unstructured version, i am not getting any option copy the chapter list. can anyone help me with this.

My current unstructured FrameMaker documents contain variables (both user and system type) in the header and footer. I need to migrate my document into DITA format. While doing so I am struggling to handle these variables. Since DITA does not support the insertion of any element in page header and footer, I am not able to use the DITAVAL feature also in header and footer.Please suggest a work around to have these variable in the DITA interface and also obtain the same during PDF generation.Please note that we are trying not to use the combined interface of FrameMaker and DITA while migrating and want to achieve the output through DITA interface only.Below are the reference snapshots from header and footer respectively.
