We have a query about Adobe FrameMaker 11. When we create a document and we do save as, it creates an automatically backup too. Till here is everything fine. However as regards the backup document we have noticed that the time indicated on the backup document is earlier than the time of the actual document. We noticed that the time elapsing between the time in the backup and the actual document is not always the same that is sometimes there is a discrepancy of 1min or 2min or even 5mins.Is there an explanation why the backup document has an earlier time than the actual document from a technical point of view please?
How do I address 'ID already used' error messages in my SGML report?
I am a former Framemaker user who just came across a 15-year-old directory of 20 or so short .fm files. Is there any way to convert these to text, Word, or PDF (online or on a Mac) without having to buy a product. Loss of formatting is not an issue. I just want to "reclaim" the text.
Is there a cost to upgrade v15 (licensed) to Frammaker 2020?
We currently have a 2-cell table where we need to adjust the width of the second column and change the background colour. We have updated the table style to reflect this and anytime the table is now added to a document, the table is inserted with the new properties/formatting. However, any existing instances of the same table style already used in the document is not updating to the new style properties. Is there a way to update the existing instances without having to manually apply the changes to the existing instances?
I am using the current subscription version of FrameMaker. I have a book consisting of approximately 30 files created with unstructured FM, and the output and subsequent PDF looks fine. I was asked to provide Word versions of the book, so had to go through the labor-intensive process of converting each file separately to RTF and then Word. At a glance, the files looked fine. It was later discovered that in several random spots in the RTF output, whole paragraphs from the FM file were omitted and replaced with duplicates of previous paragraphs. Most of these duplicates were two or three paragraphs previous. I can't find any common factors where this occurred -- one instance has a table nearby, one instance has an image nearby, another instance has nothing but paragraphs of text. This is so weird. I tried regenerating the RTF and it happened again so I have no idea how to solve this. There is no error message or indication anything has gone wrong. Has anyone seen anything similar in Fram
In our documents (structured), we use a Table Element (Notes) to insert notes. We've now decided to change the formatting of the notes, adding a line above and below the table. To achieve this, we've created a new Element (Remarks), which automatically inserts the LineBeforeNote, Notes and LineAfterNote Elements. When inserting the Remarks Element manually, we get the results we're after. As you can image, we have several of these historical Notes that we need to convert to the new structure. I know we can use a Conversion Table to wrap the existing Notes Element in a Remarks Element. However, doing this results in the LineBeforeNote and LineAfterNote Elements missing. Is there a way to insert these as part of the Conversion, or do we have to go through all our documents and manually add the two additional elements? We are not using XML or DITA - just Structured FM with an EDD.
Hi All. Using FM 16.0.4 on Windows with a customised Responsive HTML settings file. I'm re-using topics across multiple books which is causing issues with cross references when publishing each book. If I have a cross reference from one topic A to another topic B, but then use topic A (but not B) in another book then I'd prefer to have the cross reference convert to simple text rather than a broken hyperlink in HTML. Currently thinking of using conditional markers to have alternative links, but wondering if there's a more automated way of converting the cross reference to text when publising to HTML. Help, input, discussion, much appreciated 🙂
I know there is a keyboard shortcut and probably other methods but I used to have a simple toolbar on top to align text right\center\left with one click, which was great. For some reason, I can't find it. I set all toolbars to view but it is still gone. Am I missing something? I have included a screenshot of what I see.
When attempting to connect to an AEM repository using FrameMaker 2020, regardless of server I provide and what credentials are supplied, I immediately get the " Login Failed: " error. When I use the correct details, of course I get the same error on FM2020, but the same details allow me to connect to the repository using FM2019 with no problems. I have tried use FM2020 on firewall-less, vanilla OS, but I get the same error. So there isn't any security policy blocking anything. Anyone know what the problem could be?
I have just started using FM2020 in Windows 10.(upgraded from FM2015, not structured, English UI, edit in Japanese and English) When I edit files that created by FM2015 and generate a PDF by [Save As PDF] in FM2020, the file size of the PDF becomes about three times that of the PDF generated by [Print Book] (Distiller) (about 6,000 KB → about 18,000 KB, both English and Japanese). In [Pulish]/[Setting File:]/[Outputs]/[General]/[Preset Name:], I selected the same setting as the Distiller (the same PDF job option), but the file size was increased. I would like to generate a PDF of a similar size to the PDF created by Distiller without losing photo quality by [Save As PDF] in FM2020. It would be very much appliciated if you advise me how to set it up or any hint to reduce the PDF file size.Thank you.
Is there anywhere I can view a list of the context points that have been captured/converted from my .h file? I've tried a couple of locations in the output, and seen either a couple of random ones from my file, or one that does not exist in my original files at all.
I am trying to create context sensitive markers in FM 2020. I've inserted topic alias markers in the specific parts of the doc and tried to create the .h (UTF-8 encoded) file needed for the CSH. I used #define <mapID> <map number> for each of the topic alias markers I inserted. The .h file contains the #define statements only. I put the file in the same location as my book file and generated Responsive HTML as the instructions on this forum state. Does this create an anchor tag? And what format will that tag have? How can I search for that in my output as searching for "<a class=" does return results. Also can yo use dashes in the map ID and map number?
Folks,I just downloaded TCS from Adobe, and my antivirus (intego VirusBarrier) reported W32/CorkaMIX.A in the download "Assets1_1.zip"Is this a real virus or a false positive ? Regards,Geoff
Hi, I'm trying access the Super/Find Change script. The link posted in the forums is broken. Can someone provide a new link? Thanks.
I have been automating a lot of tedious work for my clients since a long time. In many cases I needed to write an error report to inform the user of stuff they needed to correct in their FM files. I would like to do this in the same manner as the Error Log you get when updating an FM book and some problems occur (files not being opened, color settings that are inconsistent, unresolved cross-references etc.). I check from a simple script and find that this error log is not a document, even though it does contain cross-references to the locations of errors (e.g. unresolved cross-references) in the checked documents. I would like to know a couple of things before I dig into this any further:1. Is there a way to create this type of view from scripting ?2. How do I enter text into that view if it is not a Doc object ? Of course if any of you have a sample script that they would like to share with me, that would be wonderful. Jang
Is there an ascii code in FrameMaker for a clockwise and counter-clockwise arrow?
Hey there,Back in the day, when you would PDF a book, there was an option to create separate files from each file in the book. This was done I believe through the distiller process. Now, Frame distills files natively, and I no longer see this option. Is there a way to do this? I have literally hundereds of forms that are created that I want in separate files, and this used to be so easy, but now, I can only figure out to open each file and PDF them, which is suuuuch a waste of time when I know I could do this before! Help please ❤️ I can't find anything about this feautre anywhere.
I don't know why I'm getting these blackboxes instead of page numbers. I looked at a good TOC file and the file I am using has the same info on the reference page. eaders Here is what is on the reference page:
HelloI am trying to build a TOC and a PDF for one of our product guides. The TOC fm file has 3 levels of headings printed. However the PDF file only prints one level. What could be the reason? Attached screenshot below. The one with 2 levels is the FM file and the one with the just 1 level is the PDF file..
I cannot seem to update my FrameMaker Version 16 (subscription) in Windows 11. It is looking for an "auphd" file. Is there any way to download the update from Adobe?
Hi There, Currently, our company is planning to upgrade our FM 11 to FM 19 or FM 20. The challenge we foresee with this upgrade is pertaining to images that we have in our existing FM11 documentation. We mostly have images with .jpg, .jpeg, and .png formats These images are nearly 50+ (approx). Now, what we want to know is if we upgrade to FM19 or FM20 and use WebP Image import feature, how can we plan for .jpg to WebP conversion? From my knowledge of FM, I understand that FM19 or FM20 won't be able to convert .jpg to WebP and since this is company documentation, so we don't want to rely on online converting tools either. Can anyone suggest me quick fixes or workarounds to tackle this scenario? I will appreciate your help !
We all do know that the generation of PDF with PDFL in FM-15 (aka 2019) is not that reliable. But I wanted to support this by a short statistik spanning the last 13 months. Month Docs OK NOK Books OK NOK 2021-01 10 10 0 1 1 0 2021-02 2 1 1 3 3 0 2021-03 6 6 0 9 8 1 2021-04 7 3 4 3 2 1 2021-05 13 10 3 6 5 1 2021-06 5 5 0 2 1 1 2021-07 1 1 0 3 2 1 2021-08 1 1 0 8 5 3 2021-09 9 8 1 0 0 0 2021-10 4 4 0 3 3 0 2021-11 1 1 0 3 2 1 2021-12 14 14 0 4 3 1 2022-01 33 33 0 1 1 0 NOK means that the process failed and FM quit' You see, that the geneation of a PDF for a book failes more often than for single documents. Now my question: Is it really reliable in FM-16 (aka 2020)?
When I select Package in FM 2019, a zip folder is created. The files in that zip folder no longer have "Date modified" associated with them. Attached is a sample. Is there a way to prevent this? - Thanks
