Hi,I create a a fm book using FM 10. I create a PDF for this fm book. When I copy the text from the PDF, the copied text is pasted without spaces. Can anyone help me solve this problem.RegardsParinita
I am trying to follow the directions to add the degree symbol to the toolbar. I need the degree symbol code to enter. Also, there is already a degree symbol in the cmds.cfg and menu.cfg files. Not sure why the symbol does not appear on the drop-down? the /xXX is what I believe I need. Thanks, Carl
Time to start entering these. If you are unsure about whether FM has the feature yet, please do some research and figure it out before posting. Please don't post requests for assistance in here, either. Cheers, Sean
I am a long-time and very experienced user of FrameMaker, Acrobat, and all associated tools. My XP-SP2 system is thoroughly debugged and fully updated. When I create PDFs in Frame, sections of the text come up missing. The document remains correctly formatted and organized - there are simply missing sentences, paragraphs, etc. in no discernible pattern. I have tried every fix I can think of and all those I have found by searching online - to no avail. These documents are created from scratch in Frame 7.2p158; I have updated the installation at least once without solving the problem. The PDFs are being created by every known process: print to Distiller (7.0) within Frame; Save As PDF; print to generic PostScript and pass to Distiller. The missing text remains consistent within all processes. The fonts involved range from junk of unknown origin to (most of my fonts) true Adobe Postscript. Changing fonts does not cure the problem, although it sometimes changes which parts disappear. Th
I have a 150 page FrameMaker document (with lots of linked Illustrator CS4 files) that is taking 7 MINUTES to print to the default Adobe PDF printer. In contrast, an old QuickSilver / Interleaf document that is 200 pages long and contains even more graphics embedded as huge TIF files, takes 20 seconds to print to the same default Adobe PDF printer.I have tried all the suggestions I can find on the web, including Adobe forums, but nothing works. Can anyone suggest why printing from FrameMaker 9 to Adobe PDF is taking such a long time? It would appear to be a FrameMaker problem, since every other application can print to the Adobe PDF printer without any problems, and so can FrameMaker... but only at a snail's pace!I am using TS2 (FrameMaker 9 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended) on a 3.0 GHz Quad Core PC running Windows XP Pro.
Is there any real difference? With "Save as" you get a txt file with a report that seems to be meaningless. Are there any hidden advantages or disadvantages to either?Thank youIan
Hi all,I have a question regarding import and export of DWG and DXF CAD drawing formats. I have read as much as I can find prior to posting here. I am using FM version 9.0p250.I am trying to open or import DWG/DXF files from a CAD program into a FM document. I also need the ability to export back to DWG/DXF after adding text and other misc. to the document. I have had some success importing DXF files, but most of the time it actually crashes FM. I am unable to open a DXF or DWG file using File > Open. When I try to export a DWG/DXF using File > Save As, the desired output format is not listed.I have read the Using Filters document (FM7) and I understand that there are a couple of import/export filters that can be used (IsoDraw API Client and IMAGMARK filter). The choice between these is configurable through the maker.ini file. The settings for a particular filter are configurable through the various .ini files in t
I am working with DITA files in Frame 8, and am unable to save a generated Frame file as a PDF. I keep getting these errors:"To execute "Save as PDF" command you must have Acrobat Distiller version 5.05 or higher installed.""To execute "Save as PDF" command you must have PDF Job Options defined.I have Acrobat Distiller 8 installed, so I don't know why I'm getting the first error. I opened Distiller, and still got the error. Also, I did try to set job options using Format > Document > PDF Setup. On the PDF Setup dialog box, the only job option in the PDF Job Options drop-down list was High Quality Print. When I clicked Set, I got a message stating that "The selected PDF Job Option does not existing in the current installation. Either create this Job Option or select an available Job Option."How do you create a valid job option? How do you get it to show up in the drop-down list? I looked at the Adobe PDF properties in Print Setup, and the Default Settings show several job options i
I am using FrameMaker 9.0 on Windows, and I'm trying to add the statement "Page intentionally left blank" on the last page of my chapters. I've found some information online about how to do it, but not step-by-step instructions. I tried each of the solutions (adding a reference frame in the reference pages, adding a new master page), but for some reason, I can't get this to work. I also tried just manually typing the line in, but that's risky because I'll probably forget some in the final edit and/or I'll add/delete text and the pagination will change.Sorry if this has been posted before. I did a search and couldn't find it.Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello Is there a free, simple tool available for converting a PDF file into a reasonable FrameMaker file?If so, could you please pass the name of the tool on to me? The pdf contains text, images and tables. I would be happy if I could get the text into reasonable shape with an import into a FrameFile. The tables and images I can do manually. Kindest regards,Fred Gerke
I want to add the trademark symbol (TM) in my document. I added it to the Reference page in the Character Macros table (like they said in the Adobe help file). But, what next? How do I insert it in the document? I don't see it listed in the Character Designer list.Judy
Just moved to new Windows 7 boxUsing Frame v 8.0p236Have book, used Save as PDF option, click "Set".Get a popup box with big red "X" says: c:\windows\SPLWOW64.EXEIdeas?TIA,Theresa
Is anyone getting a 9004 error doing anything in FM9? If so please tell me what you are doing to get the error and what patch you are at and what version of Acrobat you have. Also be very clear on what you are doing to get that error step by step will be great. Trying to find fixes for people and nothing is working and no one is saying anything about it!!! Thank you from a very tried tech support person.

In FrameMaker 12, how do you type greater than/less than/greater than or equal to/less than or equal to? For example, how would you type "less than or equal to 3" with symbols instead of words? Right now, my workaround is to create a new equation, pick what I want from the Relations group, and then drag the border of the equation box in until it covers the question mark on the left side of the equation.
I just recently purchased and installed the Academic version of the Adobe Technical Communication Suite. However, when I went to enter my serial number after launching Frame 8 for the first time, I received a red X at the end and was told it was not a valid serial number. I used the one listed under "Technical Suite" on my box. I tried to enter it several times and even had a colleague try to no avail. I tried to use the Adobe online chat and was told that the number was valid, but had not been "activated." I was confused as I thought that what I was doing in the Software Setup was activating the number. I am on a machine with internet access and administration permission. The entry fields only allow numerical entry, so I know I am not confusing 0 and O. The online chat rep told me I had to call Customer Service. So far, my "customer service" experience has been very poor. I provided all my info and the serial number and was told I need to talk to Technical Support, they transferred
Framemaker 10 - Photoshop files (PSD) that I import (File -> Import -> File -> Copy into document) into my master pages are all displaying a horizontal line on the right side of the image. The line is not in the original image. Does anyone know what is causing this anomoly? Thanks Chris.
Since a major update to Windows 10, installed April 6 2018, I cannot generate a PDF. Nothing happens. When trying to output to PS of send to a printer, I get the error dialog - Cannot print because the selected default printer is not compatible with FrameMaker. (Cannot query escape 768.) I have Creative Cloud tools as well, in particular Acrobat DC. Running Windows 10, Version 1803, OS Build 17133.1

Hi,I cannot get the "greater than or equal to" symbol to display properly. I can get the less than or equal symbol to display by typing Ctrl+q #, and then formatting it as Symbol font.According to the Character_Sets.pdf FrameMaker Online reference, the greaterequal symbol is Ctrl+q 3, but when I format it as Symbol, FrameMaker displays a box (which looks to me to be a non-printing character).Any suggestions on how I get a "greater than or equal to" symbol to display? Thanks,John B.FrameMaker 8 (8.0 p277)Windows XP SP 3
Dear Representative,In FM10. I was instructed to use a font called "gotham book" for my body text. I bought gotham-book.otf and gotham-book.ttf and put them in the FM folder FMINIT\Fonts. I have been using the font but the text looks off to me, horizontally stretched or something. I did a little research on the font and I see there are 3 names for what seem to be the same font, "Gotham Regular", "Gotham-Book" and "Gotham Book"; are any one of these three considered the official font while the other two are unofficial copies? Also, do I need both the otf and ttf files?Thanx for any help you may provide,-William
Hi all,is it possible to hand an animated GIF to the PDF output (remaining animated)?FM10 and AcrobatX work together rather fine concerning other animation formats such as SWF or AVI. I am not sure however wether the PDF format supports animated GIFs at all.Robert
Seems like it's a broad enough request that it could stand a thread of its own. I think this weekend I *might* break down and put Leopard on my PowerBook, which means no Classic, and I'd have to use Frame for Windows in one of the virtualization products. Uck.
