Hi, I have set up a 150-page book with a primary text frame throughout. I am trying to add four pages in different parts of the book that have only one photo on each of them and no text. I haven't been able to find instructions on how to do this, and have experimented with all the ways I can think of but nothing works. As one example, I used File/Place to place a photo in a blank page inside the primary text frame and anchored the photo to the top of the following page of text. (I also tried anchoring the photo to the end of the previous page). But no matter what I do, when I make changes elsewhere in the document, the photo moves somewhere other than where it should be. There is no apparent logic to where it moves for the significant number of times I tried to achieve my objective. Sometimes it moves off the design altogether to the side. Other times it places itself over text in other parts of the document. Or the photo moves up so half of it sits on top of the primar
When I click on Place to add an image to an InDesign doc, the files appear in order of last opened and I have not found how to change that. Anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance!
I have a style override that I actual prefer to the original style. I can't figure out what the difference is and need to see what the rules are for the style override so that I can change everything to that style. Thanks in advance for any help. Misty
Auto-fit is *NOT checked. When I use the selection tool (black arrow) on placed illustrator artwork and drag the frame handle it now resizes (squashes it) rather than crops. I would never want to resize a placed object that way, ever. I am not holding down any keys, but even if I do it causes resizing and not cropping. It is maddening as there is no longer any way to crop Illustrator art that I have copied and pasted into Indesign (version 18, 19, or 20). How do I get the ability to crop artwork back? Auto-Fit is *NOT checked and I have reset the preferences for Indesign. Still not working.
Hi everyone,I’m currently working on a financial reporting process that involves updating Word files using content controls. Each file is then passed to another team, who manually imports it into Adobe InDesign to generate a formatted PDF that aligns with our corporate layout. The issue we’re facing is that the layout in the generated PDF is often incorrect — tables appear misaligned or shifted, when content controls are involved. Unfortunately, I do not have direct access to InDesign myself, so I’m relying on the design team’s feedback and can’t test potential fixes on my own. Here’s what I know: The Word document uses content controls (structured fields for automation). The formatting looks perfect in Word, but gets altered during the InDesign import. The design team mentioned that content controls might be interfering with the table layout in InDesign.Even attempts to flatten the Word document (i.e., remove content control structure before passing it on) didn’t fix the
For CC library assets anchored inline with text, can these be made to accomodate font size choices in reflowable epubs? Jutoh is supposed to be able to do this, but I can't quite get it.So far I cannot see how to make an asset, a tiny image to suit 12 point original font, change if the e reader changes font size.Maybe in a future update?
First time I've had to use the footnote options in InDesign. I have several pages with footnotes which occur at the bottom of each page in each associated text block. Span across columns is checked in bothe the Footnote Style I created, as well as in the Layout options. The footnotes display correctly on screen as intended. When I print spreads from InDesign to an Epson P5000, the footnotes only print the text that is under the lefthand column. All of the footnote text on the right disappears.Exporting the pages to a PDF generates the file as it shows on screen, and the resulting file prints to the same printer as expected. This appears to be a bug in InDesign's printing capabilities.Anyone have a suggestion as to what is going on?See the two screen shots to see the problem.
Hi everyone! Is there a way I can rip a pdf that was created at the printers to print double sided bookets? I need to upload it onto our website so members can print it at home but of course it'll look crazy to them. is there a way to split the pages in 2, and then I can then reorganize the pages in order? The person who sent it off to the printers can no longer find their original. I added a page so you can see what I mean. Help??##!! And thank you!
Hello, I am desperately trying to get my InDesign to start without throwing an error message at me. The message that I am getting is: "Some files required for colour management are missing. Please re-install the application to ensure proper functioning"I have tried uninstalling and installing (InDesign and the whole Creative Cloud) again, I used the CC Cleaner Tool several times, I manually added some .csf files to this path "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Color\Settings", but nothing seems to help. I have also downgraded the version and upgraded again, I enabled synced color management through Adobe Bridge, but I can not get Illustrator to work properly. These are the posts I got the inspiration for my "solutions" for. However, none of them helped.https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/colour-managment-files/m-p/11886175https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-2018-quot-some-files-required-for-colour-management-are-missing-quot
I want to make an Indesign book table of contents that includes the chapter title AND a chapter subtitle on the same line, with only one page number. Is there a way to do this? The automatic table of contents stacks my chapter name and subtitle, and I haven't figured out how to have a page number by just one of them.
Hey all. I am trying to wrap text around an image in our paper. We typically divide text into four columns. The problem I'm having is that text wrap seems to create a larger boundary box around the corners of the objects that I'm attaching it to (see the bottom left corner of the image attached). It is very frustrating and hard to work around when I'm trying to keep lines of text even with one another. I've tried to disable the "Skip by Leading" option in Preferences as well as "Align to baseline grid" in the Paragraph window. Neither seem to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions/solutions?
How to set up InDesign Print File for Horizontal document that binds at the top? (think of a small Calendar!) It is currently set up with out Facing Pages - 20 pages total. Finished size is 8.5 long by 5.5 tall with TOP BINDING. Full print press, not digital. Thank you.
I have used these downloaded fonts previously for multiple projects in InDesign, and have never had any issues until now. In the middle of working on this project, InDesign unexpectidly crashed, but when I reopened it, it claimed to have "no errors". Yet, when I go to package the file, it says all fonts are available until it gives me this message moments later, and won't let me "replace" the fonts I clearly have. I've worked on other projects with my downloaded fonts in InDesign since, and this is the only document that seems to have any issues. Any solutions?
I managed to get indesign to crash when exporting a pdf by impatiently clicking on a layer as it was in the process of exporting. After several re-boots, several attempts of starting up Indesign and trying to recover/not recover and ignore recovery and waiting forever this to happen - I've come to the conclusion that the file I was working on cannot be opened and is beyond repair. But accidentally clicking on a layer mid-export really shouldn't be that catastrophic. I'd like to test it further, but I just want to move on. I'm marking this a big, coz it certainly aint no feature. 🙂
I generated a TOC, and anchored it to a paragraph on the first page of my document. But, unlike every other anchored frame in the doc, the text-wrap options are missing for it. They do not appear in the Properties panel when the TOC's frame is selected. Nor are there any wrapping options in "Anchor Options" for the thing. After more than one Web search, I finally found instructions to dig up the "Text Wrap" item that's inappropriately buried in the Window menu. While I was able to make the page's text jump the TOC as needed, there is no indication as to what you're setting the text-wrap properties of with this thing. Is it the column? The story? The document? Thanks for any insight.
Computer: macOS Catalina v. 10.15.7iMac 2013 I am using InDesign 2022 on a Mac. For the past month or two, the text wrap panel has not been working. The panel is just gray, does not show any options. If I completely uninstall and reinstall InDesign it will fix the problem for about the first timre I open it, and then it's gone again. Is this because my computer is too old? I don't have the same problem on my MacBook Air, which is running OS Monterey v.12.4.
Last time Peter Kahrel said that the empty row judgment will fail if the table overflows without displaying.It does happen when I test it, any ideas?The code below, I originally intended to add an empty row as the end of the table if there is no end of the table.Now there is a problem.Sometimes the end of the table already exists, but after running the script, it will still incorrectly add a blank line.Sometimes the last row is not a blank row, but after running the script, the row with content is turned into the end of the table. var cell = app.activeDocument.selection[0].parent; var myTable = cell.parent; if( myTable.rows[-1].cells.everyItem().contents!==""||myTable.rows[-1].rowTypes!==RowTypes.FOOTER_ROW){ dupeLastRow(myTable); } function dupeLastRow(p){ myTable.rows.add(LocationOptions.AFTER, myTable.rows[-1]); } myFooterRow = myTable.rows[-1];
Hello, I had someone format my book using InDesign, but they are now unreachable. I do have the source file, but if I import and export it, everything changes. This is very unfortunate since I need to make edits, and the formatter did such a beautiful job with certain design and flourishes that I fear might have been owned by him. They all disappear when exporting from my computer Is this something I can fix myself by learning how to use Indesign, or will it never be the same since it won't be from his computer?
Whenever I try to run a spellcheck in InDesign, it's started coming up with the language to check being Indonesian, instead of UK English!Whenever I go to change the dictionary to UK English, no matter how many times I change it and save the settings, spellcheck stays stuck in Indonesian, meaning that it queries EVERY... SINGLE... WORD! I've updated to the latest version, quit and rebooted InDesign, shut down and rebooted my Mac (iMac 2019 Intel, running Sequoia 15.5), but it stays stuck on Indonesian! Anyone else experiencing this, and how have you solved it?
I am having problems creating PDFs after the recent update. InDesign appears to be scaling the document down to fit inside the bleed marks. The 2 files attached are a before and after. Help please!
I am still pretty new to InDesign, but I know this shouldn't be happening. I am working on a novel, and I am importing/placing the body from a Word doc. Not sure if there is something I need to do in the Word doc, but starting at the first italic word, the rest of the text stays italic instead of switching back. I am starting a 100-page novella, but I have a 100k-word book I need to start every soon. Does anyone know how to fix this besides the obvious correction by hand? Trying to streamline things on the small doc and set up styles and parent pages before getting to the big one. Same author, so I know any changes will be small.
Hey guys,I wanted to report a bug and maybe hear from you for a way to fix it properly. Maybe via a possible "empty cache thing". Is there such a thing that emptying a cache in ID? Basically, the issue is about the fact that ID seems to not update a picture properly after applying modification with PS on total ink coverage Quick example: - I've got a CMYK picture that shows too much ink- ID shows me in red where it's not right (via separations preview panel)- From there, most of the time, if I modify the picture with PS/save it, ID will update the pic and everything is fine. But sometimes, it doesn't (and I don't know why it happens)Sometimes, I can do whatever I want on the damn picture, ID not only keeps the red in place but can also export a PDF with the not updated picture. Weird.I found a way to "solve" the issue by chance, by miscliking on the picture with ALT down. It dragged/copied the picture and I found the picture nice and clean. I reproduced the thing ma
For some reason, the offset for the fold marks on the spine of my book cover differs from the offset for the crops, which are set to be offset by 3mm. The cover is created as a three-page spread.
