Does anyone know if there any way to disable the default behavior in InDesign where it replaces an object you happen to unknowingly still have selected with whatever object you are trying to place? This is absolutely behavior I want InDesign to do NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER! When I select 'Place', I want to place an object not replace an object. Always. Please, help.

Hi, I've been exporting my book design as PDFs from InDesign from time to time as I work on my book and they have been exporting fine. But I am suddenly getting the message below. Do I need to worry about this? The PDFs do still open ok and I can read them ok. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with the design. This also happened with my last book that I had printed locally and it printed fine. But this new design is for Amazon so I can't afford for it to be a corrupt file.        <Title renamed by MOD>  

When looking for Searching via “Selection” or “Story” through GREP using a script — it expands into this convoluted rabbit hole, when you would imagine it would be much simpler .The short and sweet script, below, works but affects the entire document. I attempted placing “selection” in various places, and tried creating variables to point to various iterations of app.pageItem.selection , app.selection , etc . Someone sent me a link to an InDesign project for me to continue to work on it. When I click on the link it brings me to the web version without any clear way to save or edit. Could someone help me with how to get this link opened in my app with the full ability to edit and save? Thank you so much! 

Hi. I need help resolving a GREP issue. I need to apply superscript to reference numbers and the commas or endashes within, but NOT the commas separating the names. For example:Karen Smith4, Frank Jones2–5, Johnboy Walton12, Harry Bottom10,11.I have this\d[–, \d]*?And it recognises the name separating commas, but not the ones needed between the reference numbers (2–5 or 10,11).This is for a scientific application, and unfortunately, I must keep the style (commas and endashes), not switch them out for hyphens or semicolons. 

Is it possible to have All Spots to Process stick as part of a PDF export preset?

Opening a recent file opens a different one from the list.I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Still broken.

 Je travail sur indd et AI en RVB, mes profils correspondent entre eux mais quand j'exporte pour l'impression en pdf les couleurs changent. Les couleurs ne changent pas sur toutes les pages, je ne sais pas comment y remédier  ici toujours dans le pdf d'impression, le vert est le bon 

In my design of a magazine, the main text uses baseline grid, but each article's author bio is a smaller font with no alignment to the grid. The author bio in its own frame, with Text Frame Options -> Align=Bottom. As long as I make sure the bottom of the bio frame is on one of the grid lines, I normally can get things to look nice, with the bottom of the bio aligned with the bottom of text in other columns. But this time it's acting weird, probably related to wrapping around an image. No matter where I put the bio frame, I can't get the text to align to the bottom of the frame. I think InDesign is using its own algorithm to try to make the appearance of the lines pleasing, but I want to prioritize the text alignment in the frame over "beauty". Can I do that? Hi,For years i am having this issue which drives me crazy. Not sure if this is a bug, or if I am doing it wrong, but it definitely feels like a bug.In my document i have a number of  titles which have a digit at the end, in superscript, referring to specific technical terms listed at the end of the document. This list is quite long. The setup is that, after exporting the document as an interactive PDF, you can click on the items in that list and that will take you to the page with the referral number.What i did is create hyperlinks to pages that i have entered manually in the hyperloink window under 'link to page'. So it's not based on anchor points. I just enetered the page number to link to manuallyHowever, after exporting, I keep having a few issues: 1. Not all links are exported (by the way, this also happens for some website links i have in the document), and if i redo the export, some do work but then others fail.2. I export a 15x21 cm book to pdf in indesign, it makes it 16x22 pdf. When our graphic designer exports the exact same document on his own computer, it exports it as 15x21. We don't know if it is a bug in the current versions. Of course, this creates a lot of trouble for us for minor corrections.

Ok, I'm having CONSTANT slow drag with InDesign. The spinning beach ball appears while I"m doing almost ANYTHING, even after quitting/re-starting the program, and even re-starting the OS. I'm running High Sierra on Mac, with 40GB of memory, so that shouldn't be the issue, but almost anything I'm doing, I'm getting major lag. Any ideas? This is really ridiculous. Thanks!

I've got a project where I'm using both Illustrator and InDesign. I have a font I want to use, and was able to use a Distort and Transform Effect in Illustrator to make the text match the stylized illustration.I would like to match that text style for some headers in my InDesign document (keeping the type editable). Is there a way to apply the same effect (or the same type of effect) in InDesign?The attached image shows the text with and without the effect applied for reference.

Hi I’m hoping to put my book onto Amazon for print and Kindle. Please do you mind taking a look at my screenshot below to see if it all looks set up properly. Text against marginsI’ve set my guides as you’ll see in the screenshot below to align to margins not pages.Is it ok to have the text right up against the margins as I have? I know that when I placed a photo right up against the margin, InDesign did not like that so I moved it further inside the margins guides. Hi, I've been having Error 14 for the past 5 days now and it is urgent I an publish online. I get the same error code no matter which document I try and publish, and I've tried on a different machine. I've send the document to someone abroad who can publish it, which is strange. I've done all the methods of disabling the proxy, and the firewall and anti-virus, still with no luck. Loging out/in or re-installing InDesign or CC hasn't helped either. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Dewi.

Has InDeisgn dropped SVG? our SVG files are loaded into CC Libraries which is now saying the SVG is no longer supported in InDesign.   <Title renamed by MOD>          

I have been using Adobe products for *decades* Why is creating interactive documents like beating my head against a brick wall?What am I missing? I have my beautiful document set up. I put my text boxes on a seperate layer. The font, size, leading, colour, alignment are all set. I go to forms and buttons and select "Text Field" (Printable, required, multiline, scrollable) Reset the Font and Font size. I go to my exported PDF and there are giant red boxes. No sample text, no Lorem Ipsum, no roll over description, and when I type... all my type settings are borked. Why? Is there a way to do this from Illustrator instead? Am I missing some kind of critical document that outlines how to work around these things? The whole design field has changed and I need to make things that are editable client-side.If anyone can point me in a direction that details how to force design minutia into "form fields" or similar I would really appreciate it. 

When I change the fill to stroke on a word, the text looks like its turned into curves, but its still editable. And because it's Montserrat, its not merged. The thing is that it only start to happen right now. I've been using this document for a couple months and its been fine.  Anyone experience some close to this and can help me?Thank you!

When several footnote numbers share a single content.It seems that it can only be adjusted manually.But there is a place where it should be to automatic:Copy out a quote superscript (quote sup) copy, and then delete its footnote (footnote).Subsequent numbering may not be consecutive anymore, only manually?

I've seen several posts claiming that you can just go to File/Export and choose text. No; this option does not exist. I have a file that's 20+ pages, all one story. I tried exporting to "InDesign Markup," which is utterly useless because it's not a markup; it's just another binary file format. Then I tried exporting to XML, which is utterly broken. What I got, for a 27-page document, was one screenful of XML with only 11 elements that contain one line of text... text that doesn't appear in the original document! I have no idea where it came from. Then I tried HTML, and got nothing but blank pages... albeit with the master pages' headers (which were graphics). The page count at least looked appropriate, unlike the tiny fragment of XML. At this point I am utterly stumped as to how this tool can be used in any kind of quality-controlled workflow. I need a way to compare the text of two documents and detect where it changed. This is esssential to our work. How are we to

Hello, in my company we had a hacker attack. It took computers to clean and deleted files that I need. they are overwritten with the shortcut "akita" but they still have their importance, I wonder if they still store any original data and can it be recovered, the question concerns indd files and pdfs, it doesn't matter to me which one I recover, as long as it works.
