I'm working on a document in InDesign and I have a section that I want to remove. However, when I delete the section, it messes up my overall page numbering. How can I remove a section but keep the page numbers flowing correctly through the entire document? Thanks in advance for any help!

Dear Community, I have been using Indesign since CS2 and I have never came across this particular problem before. I am hoping someone here can help me. I have 7 seperate indesign documents each from a data merge. Each document has close to 300 pages. What I need is very simple but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it efficiently. I need to export multiple page ranges for each indesign document and have each range be a seperate pdf. Here's an example of what I mean. Indesign Document:1-2, 4-5, 7-16, 18-19, 21-30, 32-35, 37-38, 40-49, 51-52, 54-57, 59-74, 76-79, 81-82, 84-85, 87-92 I need a way to export so that basically the comma means *NEW PDF*. The only way I found so far to do this is to manually export the ranges 1 at a time which takes literally hours to go through each id file OR I found 1 plugin this morning that may do it called "extract Pages". https://www.id-extras.com/products/extract-pages/ There's got to be an easier way r
I'm working on a large (500+pg) technical manual-type document. Many pages are placed PDF's that someone else created in Word. The exported (from Word) PDF's have hyperlinks built-in such as "CLICK HERE to access the supplemental video" (not a typed-out URL). These links work fine in Acrobat. They even work fine if I combine a bunch of those PDF's together via Acrobat. But if I try to place the PDF's into my InDesign document, only the typed URL links or Mailto: links work (such as "ourcompanyname.com" or contactus@company.com, , none of the "CLICK HERE" style links work. Is there any way to incorporate these PDF's from Word, with clickable links, into my InDesign document so when I export my final PDF, they are still clickable/active without having to re-build every one of them as a button in InDesign? There are far too many to do that and it would be a nightmare when the document needs to be updated/page flow changes and them I'm trying to find and move all the button
I'm very new to InDesign.I've created a numbered list and a paragraph style for the numbered list. I'm using the same indent, negative first line indent, and tab for the whole thing, and it's set in the paragraph style also.Everything works great until I reach the number 10 on the list, then for 10, 11 and all numbers after that, the next is indenting massively. I've looked at the Bullets and Numbering options for those specific lines and they look identical to everything else.I also have hidden characters turned on and I see nothing there to give me any clue as to why it's indenting.I have a picture just below it on it on the design so thought it might be a text wrapping thing, but deleted the photo and it changed nothing.I've searched online on all I see is issues with counterbalancing the first line indent with the left indent for numbered lists. Nothing on this happening to 2 digit numbers only in the numbered list.
Help! All my automatic hyphens disappear when exporting a pdf. First I thought it was all hyphens but in closer inspection all soft- and discretionary hyphens remain. I've tried everything from uninstalling, downgrading, updating, restarting my computer... Nothing seems to work. I packaged the file and sent it to a friend and he was able to output a pdf with the hyphens, but I can't do it on my own inDesign (using the latest version, legit Cloud version)
Hello there. I have a document set up, A4 facing pages. I want to add an A3 page in landscape (essentially 2 A4 stuck together) so that when exported as PDF this page has no line down the middle. I can do it to an extent however in the resultant PDF I Have the A3 landscape, but the next A4 page tacked onto to the right. I though therefore I would set the document to not facing pages and sure enough in the pages panel everything looks great A4s next to each other and the A3 aligned. But again when exported it tacks the next A4 page to it. Is there anything I can do to prevent this/ Cheers
Hi All, One of the designers just added a font in the Adobe Creative Cloud and it shows installed and was able to use it in InDesign. However, when another designer open the same file, the font shows missing and he/she need to add it again in the same server to have it available. Isn't is global when both have the same admin rights to the same server? Thanks in advance for the reply. shutterguy
I copied and pasted several pages of English text into my document where I already have paragraph styles selected for it. I noticed that the quotation marks are in French. I tried the find/change option and it keeps saying it doesn't find any matches. Is there another way of removing the French glyphs from the start?
It's my first time using Share for Review and the one problem I'm having is that if the reviewer uses the strikethrough text option, I don't see this in my indesign doc. I can see the strikethrough text on the browser version, but not in the native doc. The review comment is in both places, just not what it's referencing.
This problem is often encountered when one of the control lines is too short for us to drag it directly. Strictly speaking, this is the result of an unregulated operation. The conditions are: assuming the AB arc is already perfect, you can't affect AB as it is. What I do now is to just yank point A with ^, but many times I need to take the time to recover the A-B arc again.
Hi everyone,I’m working on a recurring project where I need to design and lay out a 10-page newspaper. I'm looking for ways to speed up the process by using Adobe InDesign's AI-powered tools or any automation features available—especially those that could help generate page layouts based on predefined graphic templates. My goal is to reduce the time spent on manual layout by providing a set of design templates and letting InDesign (or any integrated AI extension) apply those automatically, depending on the content—such as articles, images, and headlines.I’d really appreciate any help on the following:Is there an AI-driven feature or extension in InDesign that allows automatic page layout based on templates? Are there examples or demos available to understand how this can be set up?Can the AI handle content fitting, text/image balancing, and maintaining visual consistency across all pages? What’s the best practice for preparing the templates so the AI knows how to apply them?Any third-part
Hi. InDesign may have many advantages (user interface, community support, suite of related products, etc.) but specifically in terms of typography, we are taught that it is page composition and kerning algorithms that place InDesign ahead of word processors. For example, a page of text in MS Word will have rivers of white and there is no optical kerning feature for fonts which need a bit of extra help. My question is whether alternative page layout typesetting software such as Tex and Quark can replicate, rival, or surpass InDesign with regard to typography, either out-of-the-box or with additional configuration? Coming back to the MS Word example, out-of-the box, i.e. using default settings, a page of text will have rivers of white flowing through it. But with some configuration of justification settings and hyphenation a designer might get better results. Was just wondering the situation with Tex, Quark, and others.
HelloIts first time for me to use embeded images function in indesign, ( I'm always use linked function)This time I have a situation where I have to place a word document with images into InDesign. But the images placed in RGB. Is it any chance to convert all to CMYK?Also is it any chance to have problems with printing embeded images? Thanks
Hi there,Wondering if anyone has experienced this? I have an InDesign document I have been working in for weeks with no issue. Today I opened it and the first 9 pages are appearing blank in the pages view bar however there is actually content on them!?I have assigned the master pages to the each spread and they also aren't appearing (see image 1 below). The actual view of the pages is very weird too. They almost appear like a master hasn't been assigned (see below image 2). The top 2 spreads have no page background and the bottom two do (these are correct). When I export as a PDF non of the content is appearing on the pages this has occurred on.Any ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated!TIAJemma
I forgot how to set it up, so all chapters will be on the right side, odd numbers. I couldn't find my thread, where someone explained it and even put up a screenshot. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it. I'm in panic mode. I can't believe I forgot, I remember it being easy. I think it's done before printing to PDF? Suzin
Hey,I'm kinda new to InDesign but have beeen working on a file for a long time now. I made a pdf from my file, but after doing this some pages went missing in the InDesign file and turned into grey pages. How do i get these back? When I tried to delete them InDesign told me that the pages contained content so it can't be that it has been deletedThanks in advance
I applied a simple drop shadow onto an object, and now whenever I create a new object of any type. . . a drop shadow is automatically generated. So, I have to go through the extra steps to disable the unwanted effect for each new object created. Something is amiss here. I didn't see any preferences setting to toggle this feature on/off, nor anything in the properties or effects panel either. Ideas? InDesign 20.3iMac 24, M1, 16GSonoma 14.7.4.
I generally only use the books feature initially, and when I feel like the client is basically sure of the content, I merge all the documents into one, which I think is safer. How do you merge documents in books? Would moving pages be too inefficient? Another question: I've never understood what “Automatic Document Conversion” does.
Hello. I hope someone might have an answer as I have been looking for a couple of hours now... When I click my starting point using the pen tool in indesign, on release of my mouse, the point appears a mile away to the left. If I close the shape or finish the line and start another one, the first point is placed incorrectly again. I do not know why it has happened. I used the Adjust Layout option for the first time yesterday and I "think" the trouble started then. I have: Updated Indesign now v19.5 Saved as new document Reset preferences (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on program start) tried other documents (same problem) restarted PC Interestingly starting a new document I didnt have the issue I also just discovered that it is only in a few documents in a series that I am doing The video explains it all. Any help would be appreciated. I hope its something simple. 🙂 <Title renamed by MOD>
Hi, I have installed the English Arabic version and all is looking well. The text and text characters are going from right to left. But also the Farsi numbers! Which should go from left to right. How can I solve this? Do hope someone has the answer Lisbeth
I was having trouble with Indesign crashing and it was suggested I deleted and re-uploaded the software. However, when I tried to do so I was told my computer was not compatible, why can't I just re-upload the same version of Indesign that worked before? Very frustrated at the moment as Adobe is still taking my £65 per month!
In this text box to the right of this graphic, I want each of the bold words ("Who," etc.) to be right justified with each other (as shown in the second image below), and then the beginning of each description to the lined up with each other. I've played with the various indentation controls, but cannot get it to work. I think I am probably missing some basic function here. Right now, all this text is part of a single text box. Advice?
