What is the script to programmatically extract all numbers enclosed in square brackets (e.g. [12]) from a text frame in InDesign, create anchored text frames on the left side of the main text flow for each, and apply a specific paragraph style (e.g. 'Number Style') to the extracted numbers within those anchored frames?
After updating InDesign to version 20.3, it is no longer possible to scale proportionally using Shift Date or Shift+Alt. Neither downgrading to 20.2 nor restarting helped. I also renamed the old InDesign files in the library. Please help, as it is not really possible to work with InDesign like this. (Macbook Pro M3 Max 128Gb - MacOS 15.4.1 (24E263)
Help! My 2025 indesign version 20.2 is crashing constantly - i keep getting this message and it's dangerous with working files as it's already corrupt one: "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents."Using M4 Mac MiniI'm saving to a hard drive or mac and not cloudI've deleted preferences in the library, resetpreferences in the app plus also unstalled indesign and redownloaded it. Dear Team,I hope this message finds you well.I would like to bring to your kind attention some feedback regarding the latest update of Adobe InDesign (Version 20.3). Firstly, I am pleased to see that the new Math Expressions feature has been introduced — it is a wonderful addition, and I know many Adobe users, including myself, had been eagerly waiting for it. It is great that we no longer have to rely on third-party plugins for this functionality. However, I have observed a few issues that I would like to highlight for your consideration:When inserting a math expression, the application does not accept numbers typed using the numeric keypad (located on the right side of the keyboard).Currently, the inserted expression aligns with the baseline instead of the middle leading, which affects the overall appearance. Ideally, math expressions should align with the middle leading for better formatting. It would be beneficial to expand the range of available math expressions, as many other equat
Merci 🙂
Are there any size or user limits with Share For Review?1) My team is having issues with the number of reviewers in the document at a time. If there are more than two, SFR becomes extremely sluggish.2) They also see issues with the size of the document. If it's a large document (over 75 pages), SFR again becomes sluggish and non-responsive. Couple that with multiple reviewers and it freezes. Is anyone else having this issue or know what the size/number limits are? We love this tool and want to make it work for our proposal review process.THANKS!
I have a quick question about the Color Theme Tool bar. I accidently clicked it and now it is on my screen forever and I can't get it off. Is there any way to get it off my screen?
I used to be able to precisely move an object using keyborad arrows or with the cursor but suddenly I can no longer do this without the object or text jumping to some randomly preset place or disappearing completely. I've checked text wrap and snap settings and neither of these seem to be the cause. Please help before I tear all my hair out! TIA.
I'm working on a 280 page document and I am trying to delete some pages. Every time I delete a page it somehow just reappears. It will appear to have deleted (the next page will slide into the deleted pages space and the number of pages goes down) but then whenever I click on the page in the pages panel, it hasn't gone anywhere. Also it is messing other stuff up. It's altering the headers on the pages and mixing everything up. I have no clue what to do because these pages have to be deleted. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.
I have a document that was first written as several sections with many pages per section. I need to seperate them into chapters. So I need to know how to unthread text frames so I break the link from one text frame but keep the sections together. ie: Doc has 30 pages and is 3 seperate topics of ten pages each. How do I keep pages 1-10 linked and break 10 to 11 then keep 11-20 linked and break 20-21 and keep 21-30 linked? IN-Design CS5 And I have tried both scripts break frame and split story and they are not what I want. Why does this not work?Unthread text framesWhen you unthread a text frame, you break the connection between the frame and all subsequent frames in the thread. Any text that previously appeared in the frames becomes overset text (no text is deleted). All subsequent frames are empty.Using the Selection tool, do one of the following:Double-click an in port or out port to break the connection between frames.Click an in port or an o
Hi, I accidently clicked when uninstalling InDesign beta that all settings should be removed and i see now that it has applied also to my regular InDesign and i lost all my favorite fonts etc.is there anything that I can do now???
I'm turning a 300+ page book with over 700 Endnotes into a Reflowable Epub. After having ID crash repeatedly during export, I found an extensive list of posts on this board pointing to Endnotes as the problem. Unfortunately, I had already converted all 700+ footnotes to endnotes because the footnotes weren't superscripting all the numbers correctly during export—leaving some of them not superscripted, which looked pretty messy. However, the only real solution that folks came up with was to convert the endnotes back to footnotes. Rather than convert all my endnotes back to footnotes, I exported each chapter to Reflowable Epub separately, finding that Chapter 4 was the only one that caused InDesign to freeze. I converted that chapter back to footnotes and it exported fine, even though the numbers were messy, so I left that one chapter as footnotes (changed to endnotes during export) and the whole book exported correctly. I hope this helps others to troubleshoot ID boo
On a Mac, if you hold down a letter a contextual menu appears above it with the various accent glyphs:It's very handy when you work in languages that require them. Unfortunately, it seem to work everywhere except in Adobe software. If you hold down "a", you get aaaaaaaaaaa instead of that menu. I know about keyboard mapping, the glyph panel and Option-shortcuts --- what I'm trying to find out is if there's a way to activate that pop-up menu. It's really, really handy.
Hello community, has anyone the same problem as me? When I create new document in InDesign for web, application opens 4 new documents with the same name (for example "unnamed-1") and size. It happens when the box "preview" is checked. once you uncheck the box, InDesign suddenly creates the file "unnamed-5".
Seeing line on my monitor when using InDesign I am seeing lines on my 4K monitor when using Adobe InDesign and they are not always in the same place. They are only showing up when using Adobe InDesign right now. This tells me that it is an issue with Adobe and not the monitor. The odd thing about the lines is that when I zoom in on the document that shows the line they disappear. When I zoom back out the line is gone. This is irritating because it looks like lines in my document, and I have to make sure they are not actual lines in the document before I continue working on the document.I will attach a few images to show what I am referring to. I have a new laptop and 4k monitor.I went overboard on this laptop just to make sure it would handle Adobe products. Is there a fix for this?
Hi all, I am not sure why but when I have text within a box and move it around a page with no text wrapping, even select the checkbox for 'ignore text wrap' the text disappears or moves within the box. i hope this makes sense. I can't work out why? thanks in advance. <Title renamed by moderator>
Hi everyone,I’m having a serious issue with an InDesign document (.inddc) that suddenly won’t open anymore. As soon as I try to open the file, InDesign crashes immediately without showing any error message. I’ve tested this in versions 20.2 and 20.3 – same result. Here’s what I’ve already tried:Reset InDesign preferencesRestarted my computerUploaded the file to the Creative CloudShared it with a second Adobe accountTransferred the file to that second account’s filesI also tried accessing and downloading the file both via the Creative Cloud desktop client and via the browser, but no luck – the file can’t be opened or downloaded from either account or interface. Still no specific error messages.Has anyone experienced something like this before or found a way to recover a file in this state?Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Looking for advice.I frequently need to locate Indesign files but cannot search via file name and need the ability to locate by other means. For example:I make maps and the files and respected folders need to be named by the subject matter CITY. So that subject matter city (let's call it Treeville), may be a suburb of Dallas TX for example and I would label the file/folders "Treeville TX". In order to save repeating building maps within a same general area, I can use a previously-made map file. Now, having a new map to make, I see it's a suburb of Dallas but have no way to look back thru files for a similar area maps because the file naming will not (and cannot/for reasons) contain the name Dallas and no way I would remember which small town/city files are suburbs of Dallas or Houston or San Antonio etc.So I need a way to (tag? Treeville) document ITSELF somehow WITHOUT IT BEING IN FILE NAME and I'm not talking tagging the elements within the document. I'm not even sure if tagging i
Hi!I have a small (or big?) problem. After I imported my long .doc document with hundreds of footnotes into InDesign, I found out that few (one or two) reference numbers (those in main text) are missing, but all footnotes are there, correctly imported. How can I add the reference number in text and link it to existing footnote? If I do the "Add a footnote" standard operation, then the reference is created, but also a new (empty) footnote container is created below the main text and all following footnotes (I mean their numbers) are moved by +1.Any tip, how to fix this?Thank you!
Hello! When changing the "baseline shift" of text, there is a value you can adjust up and down. It's only this way. However, when putting an object (image etc.) into flow text, you can also shift the object up and down to adjust its position, so it seems to also be kind of a baseline shift.Nonetheless, this shift goes only by mouse and has no value. Being shifted, the object could even overlap a table cell edge.Is there a (hidden) value somewhere, so I could sort of reset that shift to zero with?
I have some experience with MathJax javascript library (100% so far). It convert natural expression 'a/b' to matHML.What I want to say - write any matHML expression is to complicated for wider using. What I need for any math exxpression? To write it as LaTeX or convert it from common exxpression (as excel notation). Why do you think?

Hi, Is anyone facing XE code Index problem? We have a facing major two problems. If anyone know how to solve this problem. 1. After XE code Index document flow into the InDesign. The page ranges not get after Generate the index. In word they mentioned { XE "Bouveresse J." \r "bouveresse" }This is paragraph "From Paradox to Wonder (2014), Rom Harré and Michael A. Bouveresse means when he writes of “the philosophical confusion par excellence” in the context of his discussion of Freud’s conflation of reasons and causes. In contrast to Bouveresse’s{ XE "Bouveresse J." \r "bouveresse" } work, we are going to describe critically several “examples” of what philosophy and psychoanalyti
