InDesign

Using InDesign 2025 on a MacBook Pro. Using Photoshop to process photos.I've created a coffee table book (print) and an Ebook. The layout is complete and looks great. But the RGB photos I used are too small for conversion for the final CMYK print version. It could still work as a digital version though. As I see it, I have two options: 1. Reprocess and replace the RGB photos already in the layout with larger ones to accommodate conversion to CMYK in export, or, 2. Reprocess and convert the photos to CMYK in Photoshop then place them in the InDesign layout. I'd probably have an easier time with Packaging this way. I haven't decided on a printer yet. I'm thinking ahead and wracking my brain as to what's the best workflow going forward that will save me the most time and have the best possible result. Thanks in advance for any advice.George D.

I have a three-column layout. When I pour in threaded text onto new pages, ID creates three separate threaded text boxes. Is there a way to have it create a single three-column text box instead?

Hi, I am working on my first book layout and read through the documentation from the printer. This requirement seems a bit odd to me:Language MutationsComplete CMYK data for each language version (the exact placement of images must be maintained across all language versions).How is it even possible to have the exact placement? The German version has way more text than the English version. In addition, in some areas, the graphics are slightly larger or smaller so that they fit better into the layout. Is this normal, or am I misunderstanding something? 

When the locator point is at the bottom of page 1, but you can't put the image at the bottom anymore, you have to put it at the top of page 2.In this case you can't use the “Positioning Objects” function? Another question, the positioning object only has a wrap around effect on text after the positioning point?This bug this is a bit unscientific and inconvenient. Any ideas?

Die Dateien liegen bei IONOS Hidrive.Sobald ich die Datei aber auf den Schreibtisch kopiere, kann ich sie dort öffnen (nicht mehr schreibgeschützt).Bei anderen Programmen: Photoshop, Illustrator etc. funktioniert es über Hidrive einwandfrei.Mac: macOS 15.3.2 (24D81). I have seen a few responses to this on the forum from a few years back which I have tried.  I have not found success. I am trying to create even pages that flow to even pages and odds that flow to odd.  The idea is a dual language layout. I have tried creating a four page parent with text boxes on each page.  I link page 1 to 3, and 2 to 4.  In the parent when I add filler text, it behaves as expected. When I use the parents to make actual pages, the behaviors don't seem to work.  I paste the text into page 1, it flows into page 3 but will not continue to make new pages flowing text on newly created pages 5, 7, etc. I've tried the same process using just a two-page parent.  I paste the text into the textbox of page 1, which overflows.  Then I link it to the textbox in page 3.  It links properly to continue the text, but doesn't generate new pages.  Quite frustrating for a novice.  Any help would be appreciated.&

For a while my Indesign crashes/freezes 8 out of 10 times while exporting PDFs of magazine pages where in layered HiRes .psd files are imported as "seperated" PSD Layers. PSD layers are placed via import options whith checking and unchecking layer. After about 9% or 19% the PDF stops redering and freezes Indesign. Stopping the PDF export does not help. (PC latest windows version and automatic updates for Indesign on)     <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi friends!Sorry for posting such an ignorant question, but I am still just beginning.If I have text that is within square brackets [ffgggggvgtgg] how can  I search for any string of text like that and apply a certain char style to that text.I think I could handle this in Word in ID I don't have a clue. Thank youSusan 

I'm at the final step of my first-ever InDesign epub export and I'm running into a maddening issue.  When I create my table of contents, it's pulling from a single header style, as shown here:  The header style is only used at the beginning of each chapter. Nowhere else.  Upon export, my epub is giving me the following error in Sigil:   I'm guessing this is related to the other part of my problem, which is that the table of contents in the exported epub is creating entries for every single page. Here it is in Adobe Digital Editions.   I have no idea what to do. I don't even know if these two problems are actually related, or if they're two separate issues. Hi, I have been trying to install an earlier version of InDesign, since the newest is not compatible with my operation system. I have already checked the box for 'show older apps' in Preferences, but it won't show me the versions to install. I need to cut these two units often and frequently, is there a way to switch them quickly?Because I'm used to using dots for line spacing, I have a need for dots for pre and post paragraph spacing, but I need to use millimeters elsewhere.Just vertically. It would be great to have two units to choose from in some places.

Can someone please explain to me the difference between "Adobe PDF Presets" and "Standard" when exporting on InDesign? "Standard" is right below "Adobe PDF Present" when you export a file and you can choose multiple formats for the same document. My designer chose PDF-X3 for the Adobe PDF Preset but then chose PDF-X4 for the "Standard" for the same book cover PDF. How can you choose both and which one is the file going to use? 

Hi Adobe team,I'd love to request a feature for InDesign that already works beautifully in Illustrator:the ability to round rectangle corners directly by dragging the corner widgets inside the shape.In Illustrator, this feature is extremely intuitive — just grab the small circle in the corner and drag it inward to round the edges. It's fast, visual, and allows for fluid design work.Currently in InDesign, adjusting corner radius feels clunky and hidden in menus. Bringing the same interactive corner control from Illustrator to InDesign would massively improve workflow for layout designers who often work with rounded shapes.Thanks for considering this upgrade — it would make a big difference!Daniel

Hello, I am running Indesign 19.0.1 and would like to install an earlier version.When selecting More options, there is no selection in the drop down list for Other Versions. Is it possible to download and earlier version? Thanks

Hi, I am super desperate here. It all started 3 days ago when a plugin I use for font management (Extensis Connect) started bugging out and wouldn't let me open any Adobe programs. I completely removed/uninstalled it and Photoshop and Illustrator are working normally. However Indesign, as per usual, is a buggy mess. When I open the program from either the shortcut, windows menu, or taskbar it flashes the splash screen for about 2 seconds before disappearing. Never opening no matter how many times I try. I have uninstalled the plugin completely. I have uninstalled and reinstalled indesign about 7 times, all different versions to test if its a recent bug. It does not appear to be limited to one version. I also have a disk utility cleaner with my antivirus, this has worked in the past with deleting broken paths, etc but of course, it has not rectified the problem. Please please please tell me how to fix this I am at my witts end and there are files I need to work on for cli

Hi,in InDesign I need to make a small stroke move from page to page. This stroke will start on a page in the left-hand corner and as you get to the final pages of the book the stroke will move to the right. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it possible to automate it? Do you know any scripts?It would be great if this line could be aligned automatically.

I am running into issues and I need guidance, please. I want to line up the numbered text blocks. All the numbers are anchored to the bullet symbol in the main text block. At the top of each page should list the scripture number in bold and the verse number after the colon. Going down the pages lists just the verse numbers. I have them set up to align to the baseline grid and the spine and they are all right justified in the styles. I have a paragraph style and character style for each of the two different numbers styles. I also set up Object styles with paragraph, size and position, and anchored objects, but they do not seem to line up correctly. I am not sure how to balance the left and right-numbered text blocks so that they are equal distances from the center main text block.Any suggestions would be great as I have struggled with this for several days, ugh! 

I have recently developed a problem whilst using InDesign. My cursor doesn't move fluidly, rather it starts 'stuttering' and sometimes freezing altogether. I am running Windows 11 (completely updated) on a AMD Ryzen 7 5700 with 64GB of RAM. Two NVidia GeForce RTX 3060s with up-to-date graphics drivers. I have uninstalled InDesign and deleted all preferrences and traces of the software and reinstalled and still have the same issue (the attached video is of a clean reinstall). I have tried with other Adobe software open and no other adobe software. I have tried with my standard apps open, I have tried with nothing open. I have tried after running my desktop for a while, I have tried after a complete shutdown and restart of the desktop (I even went so far as to unplug the desktop and plug it back in so there would be no question of the restart). The video shows InDesign after I opened it, and I am moving the mouse the whole time, you can see it freeze up and stutter. So I often have to cover up a paragraph of text of a flattened PDF and add new text for my job. When I try to use the eye dropper tool and cover it with a rectangle, it doesn't come out the exact same color. So my work around is usually to duplicate the background image, and crop it just to the size I need to cover up the old text to ensure the color comes out the same. most of the time this works, but once in a while, the exported PDF shows a white edge around where I cropped, even though its not visible in InDesign. Any suggestions?

Hi! I have a large document and wanted to create an automated way to insert the title of my sections within the document in every page’s top right corner: in this example, we have the section “group 1B” and “group 1C”. But by adding sections, my total page number is messed up, indesign seems to only count up to the next section created. To go around this, I’m adding my total page number in the master page instead of leaving it as the variable Last page number. Still, I wanted to know if there’s a better way to do this…Thanks!

I am hoping to learn how I can turn bullet points into interactive checkboxes via the interactive PDF capabilities within indesign. I dont want to have to make individual squares and apply the checkbox state to them because then all the text I write may change and I will have to move the checkboxes around each time. can this be done?

I am unsing a custom font in my InDesign projects (Monteserrat) but for somereason the font is highlighted pink as if uninstalled, even though I see it in my document (and at the top of my font list with the cloud and check mark). Please help!     

I have a large catalogue document which needs to be published online with interactivity. I did this last year with no issues and now an updated version of the same document is giving me grief.The products are all within threaded text frames. Each product is inside its own table (to stop the product breaking over columns/pages). Each product table has a cell with a product image, and anchored images for a QR code and an icon, as well as various text and another table of the product details within the product table.When I publish online all of the product images, QR codes, and icons are all moving about ~1cm to the left.
