InDesign

First when I open any InDesign file from the server I get the error "Cannot open the document... You may not have permission or the document may be open already." I hit ok. Then the temporary file shows up making it look like the file is open. I double click on the file for a second time and it opens completely fine. But then a test file shows up in the folder with a bunch of code information. I cannot "save as" the file to the server, it gives me "Error code: 1." I can "save" to the server but not "save as". I can "save as" from the server to my desktop no problem. I do not have any of these issues when working on an indesign file on my desktop. This happens every time I open any InDesign file on the server. I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign. I don't know what else to do. Anyone have this same issue? How do I fix this? I am using InDesign 14.0.3 on Sierra 10.12.6.

I booted up indesign today (2025.01.22) to work on a file and found that I could no longer change the rectangle tool to the circle tool. In fact, none of the tools with the little lower-right hand tool palette designation are expanding when I click-hold or right click. Is this something wrong with the update, or have I switched some option that I was unaware exsists and can toggle it again? I thank you for your time

If I dump my INDD file + linked files (in this case, all PSDs) on a USB stick, and re-open the project on a completely different PC and ID installation (but the same fonts installed)... will anything be missing, like the custom styles & swatches I created for this project? Or are there additional setting/configuration files I need to consider carrying over as well?

hi, I'm sure this is a no brainer but I can't seem to figure out how to change info on a current template in InDesign. I made a screenshot of it. I can't click on it to edit. And via the layers I can't find it either (in this example "COMPANY")Soooo, where can I put my company name or even just deleting this text box from every single site? Please help. Thanks in advance. Kind regards,vlady

Hello there, I'm wondering if anyone knows solution to this problem. I imported any Excel sheet other than the first sheet from a multisheet Excel having the "create links when importing text or spreadsheet" preference on. Then I made some changes to the imported sheet in the Excel program. Updating the link changes the source sheet to the first Excel sheet. Is this a bug or am I missing something? I have a template with several text frames that stack vertically on a page, all anchored in series. The bottom frame is for additional notes and won't always be used. I would like for the stack to always extend to the bottom of the page, and as content is added into the upper frames, I want the bottom "notes" frame to shrink so that the stack always takes up the same amount of room, regardless of content. Is this possible? One caveat is that we have a custom auto-fill script that needs to be able to target individual text frames and insert text without breaking any of the anchoring.

Mit Hilfe von Formeln werden Werte in anderen Zellen automatisch angepasst.Nun möchte ich diese Tabelle in InDesign importieren. Wenn ich die Tabelle in Excel erneut bearbeite möchte ich, dass die Werte automatisch in der Verknüpfung in InDesign übernommen werden.Der Grund: Ich möchte in InDesign ansprechende Oberflächen gestalten und aber die aktuellen Berechnungen in Tabellenform einbinden.Ist es also machbar, dass Excel Tabellen mit InDesign verknüpft und Änderungen in Excel somit in der ansicht bei InDesign automatisch übernommen werden? Hi I've read a few discussions on this and have come across some saying that it isn't possible because desktop colour laser printers convert my CMYK InDesign doc to RGB and then convert it back to CMYK for printing I think I have that right). I have a Brother colour laser printer (HL-L3240CDW) and note that when I want to print to it I only have an option of 'Composite RGB' in the output panel. Composite CMYK is greyed out. This is presumably the bit where it is converting my CMYK colours to RGB before printing them as CMYK. It only has CMYK toners. The double colour conversion produces results that are way out. A pure magenta prints with cyan, or black, dots through it making it really dark, a pure yellow clearly has magenta mixed in etc. I have been in contact with Brother and even though they were very helpful, they haven't been able to help at all. I did establish that there is no PPD/driver for this printer that I can download. I also asked them about a colour

Hi all, I recently updated to InDesign 20.1 from InDesign 19.5.1, and the 20.1 version won't open some InDesign documents that have all been created in the last week on the 19.5.1 version. Has anyone else experienced this and figured out a solution?  Thanks!

I want to remove the number 1 from the first chapter page. Here is the Snag........I went to the layout tab,  pages,  then in the drop-down - I would go to the Apply Master to Pages... a window should show up Apply Master pages...this is where I should be able to change to none. In the drop-down - In the list, there is no Apply Master Pages....it seems to be missing.If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this it would be greatly appreciated...I am a beginner....  

In the Layout/Margins and Coloumns window menu when I have selected a Master Page, I find no way to re-uniform the margins to the original margins set for the entire document. This would be a useful feature: when I changed the format adding 4mm to my 17x24 cm to be 17x24,4cm as the standard used by Amazon kdp for paper format, I would like to preserve the preceding paging by adding 2 mm to the inferior and superior margins. I did it in the menu File/set document for the whole document, but I saw my pages did not update since the format was manually set for the Master pages. So I had to change manually again the format for each master page in the Layout/Margins and colums menu. If I could set the command "uniform to the document settings" (in the position I put on the image attached) if would be more professional and it would also follow the document settings if I change format again. Could you please implement this flag button?

I want to create labels to put on carboard boxes containing products, the labels have product information om them, text and logos. The data comes from an Excel database.So I found a software to handle this. Teacup bar code maker & Teacup data linker. Then comes the next problem. What I want to do is to auto generate let’s say for example 25 labels with the push of a button (once I have set up the template for the label) with data from a database. Then I want these labels to be exported from Indesign as separate PDF documents, each page/label, named with a prefix and the item code for the specific item, for example “Outer box label 123123” (“Prefix Item code”) I've been told this can be done with a script, but I have none whatsoever experience in scripting. Does anyone know if a script like this exist or if I can get someone to produce it for me? Best regards Fredrik 

I am creating an index for a 500 pages document. Is there a more efficient way to add the topics and/or references for the index? I have a lot of important elements to highlight and adding the references/topics one by one is extremely tedious and time consuming. There must be a way to write all the references/topics needed efficiently?

Hi, After upgrading to InDesign 2021, we experience periodic issues with files that open in read-only mode.Files are stored on a Xinet server (Linux), which we connect to via afp.The permissions on the files seem to be ok (Read and write) InDesign: 16.2.1macOS: 10.15.7 Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Hello. I'm making a script. Is there any way to track frame changes on the page through the script? For example, I made a test script. It makes a frame on the page according to the height and width specified in the input fields. When I click the Preview checkbox, this frame appears on the page. If I change the height or width in the input fields, it updates the dimensions of the frame on the page. Since it is a ‘pallet’ window, I can interact with the frame on the page. That is, I can manually resize it (by dragging the corners or side) and to update the fields in the script, I made a ‘Refresh’ button. But it's not very practical to click on the button every time. Is there any way to make it so that when I manually resize it, it will automatically add new data to the input fields? Dear Adobe InDesign Team,I am writing to report a critical bug in Adobe InDesign 2023, version 18.5.3, specifically when working on Apple devices and primarily using the Hebrew language.The issue arises when creating text frames with Block Text Alignment (Justified Alignment). When the file is exported to a PDF format (via Acrobat), punctuation marks at the end of sentences, such as periods and commas, disappear.This bug poses significant risks for professional publications, including books, advertisements, and any other design projects using Hebrew text with Block Text Alignment. Missing punctuation in exported files leads to errors that can severely impact the quality of publications.The issue has been widely reported among advertising agencies and graphic design studios in Israel, where Hebrew is commonly used in publications.To help illustrate the issue, I have attached a screenshot showing the InDesign layout (left) and the exported PDF (right), where punctuation marks are missing

I created an email signature in inDesign with hyperlinks to my website and Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.  Everything worked beautifully in the pdf.  However, nothing worked when I imported the pdf into Outlook to create an email signature.  Any suggestions???     {Renamed by MOD}

There is a bug in indesign. I have a file of 100 pages with a lot of content already.I then hid a bunch of spreads.Then I could no longer select my text in most of the pages/tekst frames. The frame, etc., i still could select but not words in the text frame.I shut down everything and restarted and the problem was still there. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign and still did it.Out of desperation I thought perhaps I'd better not hide the pages anymore. and then suddenly I could just select all the text again! So that was the problem... So where can I report that so Adobe can fix it? 

Hello After making a standard document with warning text and some images and a paragraph style with bullet list, I moved all the pages to another document. But the bullet list jumps with what looks like one tab.  See images below; original image Copied to document What am I doing wrong?

I designed a book document to InDesign to print a 6X9 book.  When I export the PDF the size properties are are 7.5 x 10.  I have made multiple attempts to export to get the correct size going into advanced setting but none of my exports work.  Please help!
