InDesign

During startup, InDesign 19.5 gets to "Starting up panels..." stage, then slowly eats all of memory and crashes my system. This is on a Dell XPS 15 9500 laptop with 64GB of memory. It worked on this system in the past, and still works on my desktop system which has 24GB memory. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results. I also rolled back to 18.5, also with the same results. And have reset the startup file (Ctrl/Shift/Alt during startup), and that also did not resolve my problem. HELP please!

I will be working on an annual report that has lots of tables with financials. In the example below, I've highlighted the numbers which use a decimal tab, Character > OpenType > Tabular Lining with Kerning set as Metrics. The figures line up visually EXCEPT when I change the font weight from Proxima Regular to Extra Bold (next to last line in the screen capture). Is there a way to have mixed weights without faking it with hoizontally scaling (shown in the last line in the screen capture)?  

Holiday greetings all, trust everyone is keeping safe and healthy!Now for my question. I need to move graphics/objects within a document to precisely align them visually (Ctrl-4) within columns.Snap to grid/guides is turned off because the bounding boxes aren't consistent in size so I need to move them by eyeball and mouse so the border within the graphic itself aligns with the column guides.But moving them with the arrow keys overshoots where I want them and seems always to snap to the guides even though I have that turned off. Is there a way to adjust the movement settings for the arrow keys so they aren't as "macro", when I need them to be "micro"?When I press and hold with the mouse so I can move more precisely, they still seem to snap to the column guides even though "snap to" is turned off.I haven't explained this very well at all in my frustration, I'm hoping someone can figure out what I mean 🙂Many thanks for time and input!!

Bonjour, un ami a installé indesign 2022 sur son mac (Catalina) et il ne peut rien faire, l'outil main est constamment en fonction, on a supprimer le programme, réinstaller, démarrer avec les commandes pour réinitialiser les outils, mais toujours rien. Je ne sais plus quoi faire.Son clavier n'est pas bloqué (barre d'espace), sa souris fonctionne correctement. Il est embêté uniquement avec Indesign, et bien sûr c'est son outil de travail...D'avance merci aux personnes qui pourront nous aider. En 15 ans d'utilisation Indesign je n'ai jamais vu ni eu ce problème. 

I'd like to have an interactive Resume in PDF. I made a minimalistic resume using MS Word, which gives me the possibility to expand/collapse titles and paragraphs. this result is good enough for me, but it's quite unprofessional send it as a Word file, I need ot converted to PDF. But PDF doesn't keep the function at all. i've tried animate, Indesign... Please someone help me as i need to apply for a new job!!  Thank you in Advance!  i made a 10 sec video showing... 

It appears if all of the other links in the document are working.  I have deleted and physically recreated this link several times looking for spaces or other strange issues.  It is important to note, than when I test the link from within the document is works perfectly, but as soon as I export it to a PDF (interactive) it is adding the phantom %OD and the link won't work.  If after get the page not found error, I delete the %OD from the address line, the page will open fine.  I desparately need to get this to work properly.  I have attached the page in question.    I am using Adobe online on a PC.   <Title renamed by MOD>

I have a Indesign book , When I try to export it to a PDF . The Date and Time variable just vanishes away . Any help regarding this ? 

I created a link for review in indesign, update it a couple of time, but today the "update content' button has disappeared. Indesign only offers me to create a new link. I did not change the file, or rename it, or copy it. (It still the same if I check the properties). The original review link is still available but i can't update it. And with all the people involve in the process, it would be a massive problem to create a new one. Can i Relink my indesign file to the original review link ?      <Title renamed by MOD>

Seems to default to putting the pdfs in a folder named with the filename. I just want it either in the same folder as the indesign file or a folder named "pdfs."   {Renamed by MOD}

Our use case is to emboss Braille characters on a business card (hinting to a QR code for vcard download, as our blind colleague suggested).Using the Unicode code chart (Braille Patterns - Wikipedia), I searched in Windows' character map (thus making sure that the font actually contains Braille characters ... Myriad Pro seemed like a safe guess anyways).But the characters copied that way won't show in InDesign (neither in Illustrator). Bonjour à tous et à toutes,je viens de passer au Système MONTEREY.Hier une installation Adobe Acrobat m'a empêché d'éteindre mon MAC.J'ai donc attendu une vingtaine de minutes, puis j'ai vérifié que toutes mes applis étaient bien à jour (dont Acrobat) sur Creative Cloud (Ce qui était le cas).J'ai donc quitté l'installation et éteind mon MAC.À l'ouverture ce matin, et alors que tous mes liens sont bien présents, lorsque j'ouvre un fichier Indesign afin de générer un PDF, une boite de Dialogue m'indique “Ce document contient des liens vers des fichiers et des URL qui ne sont pas accessible”… ensuite s'ouvre la fenêtre suivante avec “1 problème (1 échec) a été détecté avec les tâches en arrière-plan” / “Impossible d'exporter le fichier PDF”.J'ai désinstallé toute la suite ADOBE ainsi que CREATIVE CLOUD en nettoyant tous les Cookies/Prefs et autres fichiers parasites… j'ai tout réinstallé et le même souci revient. Incompréhensible !Merci d'avance si quelqu'un peut me trouver une solution…B

Hi, I like to know what applicaitons I should use if I want to createa simple product catalgoue which is showcased either on touch screen displayor iPad at trade show. Am I able to use InDesign to do that? Some trade show exhibitors use iPad to display such product informaiton.If InDesign is able to do that to diplay, to browse and to play video, that will be good.Just wonder what file format will it be exported to be used on iPad. If I want that catalgoue to be used on a Touch screen display, will ID export a fileto interactive PDF? Thanks in advance.

I have an issue with a script I’m trying to develop. I’m using a third party app that allows the client to update tables, I import their changes into Indesign and then charts will get updated based on the updated tables. I have tried some event listeners to see what I would get. When I import the updates from the client an afterPlace is fired for each table that gets updated, also an afterImport would do the same. My issue is that I have no way of knowing when there are no more imports coming so I can begin the next part of the script, is there anything I can do?Thank youAlex

Aenean vehicula sollicitudin neque, quis feugiat odio sagittis in. Etiam tincidunt {sem nec orci ultricies semper}. Etiam consequat nulla non metus euismod, vel elementum turpis elementum. I want to extract the text inside curly braces and move the text to footnotes. Please suggest a solution.Thanks and regards.

I'm using cross references in my productions since way back and it has always worked out with no problems. Now I seem to encountered a problem that I can't solve. Picture no 1. Here I've entered the page reference by hand (the blue figure 60). Picture no 2. Here I'm using cross reference tool and just applying it for the creating the page ref figure (the black figure 60). When using cross reference tool the figure jumps over to the next line. I have to decrease spacing to like -40 for the whole sentence to make it come back on the same line again. And that is not an option... Problem occours in both in 16.4 version (2021) and 17.2 (2022). Apple M1. Mac OS 12.3.1.Anyone got a clue?

I have built a paragraph style with a drop cap and a nested line style with 1 line of small caps. However, when I try to apply this style, it only works on one text box I've created. The other text boxes throughout the document are only appyling the drop cap, and not the small caps nested line style.   I have reset the style and started from scratch multiple times, and it continues to only work once. What variables could be causing this?   Attached are the paragraph and character style settings, and the two different results.      <Title renamed by MOD>

This is my first time using a Book file, and I'm creating a digital planner. I have inserted text frame hyperlinks for each week and date. However, when I move a page within the same document, the hyperlinks do not update automatically. From what I understand, when moving a page to a different position, the hyperlinks should automatically update, but this is not happening with the Book file.   For example, I have already inserted a text frame link to February 1 on "January.indd" file, and the destination is set to "February.indd" and page "Feb1."   However, when I go to the "February.indd" file and move the "Feb1" page to the last page of the document, on the "January.indd" file, the hyperlink destination doesn't update and links to the wrong page.         Is there any way to fix this? How can I rearrange pages within the document while keeping the hyperlinks intact?     <Title renamed by MOD>

I have an image of the state of Washington.  I want to export it to a PDF on a website.  I want to display alt text for each county on the map as the reader's cursor passes over it.  I have tried several options such as putting placeholder frames on a separate layer.  Also tried various print settings.searched web forums but all only refer to placing one alt text on one image.  Its hard to believe no one else has tried to do this.I'm using Adobe CC on a Win 10 PC.

I am having a very serious issue with InDesign, and I'm trying to reach tech support. I go to the chat option as my problem is very, very complicated.  I jump through all the hoops to get past the robot, and then I wait, and I wait for an agent to come online. Then the robot ENDS the conversation BEFORE an agent ever joins the chat. So I give them a one out of five star feedback, and then I have to start all over again, and it's later, rinse, repeat. No live agent EVER comes online, and the robot ends the chat.    I get it. Adobe doesn't care! However, this issue is a very big deal to me, becuasue until this issue is fixed I am out of business.   Again my problem is COMPLICTED. It requires a one-on-one session to fix. In earlier versions of InDesign you could select and object and move it when the red bounding box appeared and you could see the little "move" icon.  Now, I have a difficult time moving anything around on my page.  The program wants me to relink to the image.  So, I hid that function but I'm still having trouble.  Sometimes, when you select an item to move, the blue bounding box appears.  I rarely use that box!  I just need to know what I need to do to move items easily again.  I spent about 5 minutes just trying to move a few images on the page and that's pretty frustrating!  Thanks, Chappy   <Title renamed by MOD>

Ok, this is lots of code for a task that should be simple but I didnt write the API :@This script copies every item on a src-page to a dst-page and doesnt care if one of them is a master-page. I had to write my own map for that and I'm just missing a tiny bit now: placement. If the original item is a link, I wanted to duplicate the original linked item and link that to the dupe instead. Hello,I am trying to find an easy way to add revision bars (or change bars) to InDesign documents. Typically, in aircraft manufacturer documents, a thin revision bar appears in the margins to indicate that there has been a technical change since the previous version of that document. InDesign does not currently have a feature that will create these automatically. It does have a very limited Track Changes feature, but it is only usable in Story Editor. There are a couple plug ins (Kerniff Publishing Edit Marks and CtrlSoftware's CtrlChanges) out there, but I am not confident in these as a solution due to the high cost for singular licenses. I am also not sure that they would be any more efficient than doing it manually (drawing a vertical line and applying an object style that would place it in the margins with the desired attributes).
