InDesign

So this is annoying, but not critical. Let’s say I’ve got text that I want to change from Minion to Univers (this is a somewhat regular occurrence). There are 27 different cuttings of Univers LT Standard, of which I have only ever used 4 (57 and 67, condensed, oblique, bold condensed and bold condensed oblique).Whenever I select Univers in the top font-family box, it defaults to 39 Thun Ultra Condensed. I have never and will never use this. I’m on Windows and I can’t even find a way to remove those unwanted styles, just the entire family. How can I get 57 Condensed to be my default sans-serif typeface that InDesign selects when I pick Univers in the top box?And on a related note, I wish they had a Black Condensed and Black Condensed Oblique; I would use those too.

I have asked this before but am trying again. There is no scroll bar in the list of activated fonts in Creative Cloud. This makes it impossible to deactivate the fonts I no longer need. Interestingly enough, when I made a screen shot of the window and placed it here, there WAS an active scroll bar in the screen shot — again, only once it was placed. It does not appear when I am in Creative Cloud. I took a screen shot of the screen shot that showed the lack of a scroll bar; I could not place both of them in this box.

This background incorporates a "gradual feathering" effect.Now, after pressing Shift and clicking separately, you have selected two images, and then you try to select the image on the left as the key object.You will find that you always choose the background.But if you want to select the image on the right as the key object, there is no problem.

Emergency situation. I’ve had to delay publication because of a critical problem and my entire business depends on fixing it in the next two days or less.Last year the on-screen-only PDF version topped out about 67 MB. Big but manageable. This year it’s over 165 Mb. This year was slightly bigger (a few more pages added but all vector animations and text). The size of the full .indd file went up from about 490 Mb to 692 MB. When I save-as it reduces to 386 until it’s opened.Adding about a dozen vector images and text frames shouldn’t add 100 MB to a PDF, when downsampling is deeply constricted in size reduction (96/144, Medium resolution). I have an absolute ton of internal and external hyperlinks, cross-references and so on. Graphics aside from the cover are reasonably small for the most part, although there may be a handful that are a bit bigger.What can I check and compress to make this a lot smaller? My hosting server will not allow a file that big, and I doubt my customers want a 1

InDesign 2025. If I go to the menu, choose Object > Generate QR Code and type in the ISBN number in the Content Plain Text dialog box, will I get the correct barcode? How do I test it?Thank you.

Why did the update erase all my custom workspaces

Ever since the update to 2026, my InDesign panels won't open on occassion. I have to quit InDesign and reopen to get the the panels to open. Anyone else experiencing this? (Windows 11 Pro)

InDesign this version is CRAP so many issues with it. Font issues. Formatting issues. Now crashing during output - add that to the list -  Why do so many updates just to break things that were working fine in the first place, to add a bunch of features most of us will never ever use. Most commercial users of this program do not need all the bells and whistles, we just need it to work correctly for basic usage. I just came here to say I basically hate Adobe. I hate it ever since it went to CC. Too many updates, too many issues, etc. SIGH - and to think we PAY for this lol

Every month once Indesign is updated, our whole company is unable to open adobe. They get the error "indesign.exe - application error. The application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click OK to close the application." This has been an on going issue for a few months now. The temp fix is to run a repair on the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable which fixes it until the next update comes out. This is for windows 11. Is there a more permanent fix for this?   

I've been designing the same 40 page publication for years. It is set up with 4 different master pages (spreads). Every master has 2 columns with a .25 inch gutter width.In the past, I've always been able to drag the gutter on the layout pages to change the width of each column (to match the content). But in the past year or so, every time I try to do so, it defaults to .1667 inch gutter width.Why doesn't InDesign maintain the .25 inch gutter when I move it now? Currently I have to re-set the gutter manually using the Layout> Margins and Columns dialogue box for every page where I don't want equal columns. Very annoying!Any help is much appreciated!

Instead, click the OK button with the mouse to close the dialog. Hi,I’m creating a print document for an organization and their brand guide is based on their website. The brand guide specifies their boxes have rounded corners with an outer radius of 20px.  I went into preferences and changed my horizontal and vertical ruler to use pixels. However if I set the rounded corners on my box to 20px, it looks much more rounded than what I see on the website. Is it something to do with pixel per inch ratio of print vs web? How should I adjust it? thanks! 

I am trying to change the leading of my document, but I can't figure out how to make it apply to spacing within paragraphs and not just the space between paragraphs. The document I'm working with is poetry, so for the most part this isn't a problem but every once in a while there is one word that won't fit on a line and then is very tight to the previous line.

Hi, I'm trying to add swatches to my CC Library, but it doesn't work. I tried to drag and drop the swatches from Swatches to CC Libraries, but nothing happens. Running on InDesign version 18.5. x64. 

Today, I wanted to horizontally move an object, and I thought of using item.move()I am on the new version of https://www.indesignjs.de/indesignapi/indesignI've been looking for a long time, but I can't figure out which one it is.I still feel more comfortable with the old version.Later, I found item.move(undefined, [-x, 0]); in someone else's example. I'm curious about the purpose of undefined.

Any idea when the fix for the flyout boxes is going to be fixed? It has been months now and still not working.

I'm working on a Data Merge file and it keeps saying when I choose the data source, "The selected data source has one or more empty field names. Please fix the file or select another file." I can't seem to see any blank fields in the excel file. I did save it as a .csv. I've never had this problem in the past. Any advice would be appreciated!

I’d love to see a text effect to highlight text. Right now, designers everywhere use underline options and have to manually add spaces to simulate a highlight effect. I think this would be a very easy effect to program, especially when the highlight text effect is very in right now.

Hi all, is it possible to upload InDesign snippets directly to the Adobe CC Library?At the moment, it doesn't seem to allow me to upload snippets directly. I have to place each snippet onto a page first and then add it to the CC Library. Since I have thousands of snippets to upload, this process is very time-consuming.Does anyone know of a faster or more efficient way to upload them?

...or a Mac script? Rather than open up every file and Export as........? Affinity 3 is out and free.

As shown in pic1 and pic2 below, I have dragged and selected two rectangles using the selection tool. Is there a way to know whether the virtual box I dragged is from pic1 or pic 2.
