Hi everyone,I’m working in InDesign (latest version, 2025) and I’ve noticed something strange about alignment and guides.When I draw a rectangle with a thick stroke and try to align it to a guide or the page center, InDesign aligns it based on the outer edge of the stroke, not the object’s true center.In Illustrator, alignment ignores stroke thickness (which is what I want). But in InDesign, it always includes the stroke, which shifts the object slightly.I remember there used to be an option called “Use Preview Bounds” that controlled this behavior, but I can’t find it anywhere in the current version — not in Preferences, not in the Align panel.My question:👉 Is there still a way in InDesign 2025 to align objects based on their geometric center (ignoring stroke thickness)?If this feature was removed, is there any new equivalent setting or workaround?Thanks in advance for any help or insight!

I have a number of sources where I'm pulling information and do not want to do the tedious File>Place then edit down.The copy-paste seems only reserved for regular text frames or overriding the parent; I don't want this option since updates to the parent won't carry through.  Is there another option I'm missing?  

I subscribed to Pantone Connect since I have become accustomed to using those color from Adobe furnished palletes.  So far I have found Pantone Connect to be about as useful and functional as a concete back door or teats on a boar hog. Has anyone had any succcess using the app?Thanks to those who know more than me,Joe

Bonjour, Cela fait plusieurs fois que j'essaie de démarrer le logiciel Indesign sur mon mac, seulement j'ai toujours le même message d'erreur qui s'affiche (voir capture jointe). J'ai déjà consulté le "plus d'infos" suggéré, et ait suivi la procédure conseillée mais rien ne change, même si je change toutes les autorisations de lecture.Je ne comprends pas pourquoi cela ne fonctionne pas.J'ai déjà essayé également de désinstaller et de réinstaller le logiciel...Si quelqu'un a une solution je suis preneuse s'il vous plait. Merci d'avance

I followed the instructions here: what grep setting will let me not have a hyphanated word at the end of a paragraph in a paragraph style in indesign   And it's not working. If I take the Character Style and apply it to the whole word, it's blocking the hyphen and moving the whole word to the last line (orphan) of the paragraph. I was assuming that the "\w+$" command would do that. But it's not. As the instructions (above) state, "This forces the entire last word to stay on one line, preventing it from being hyphenated. " What I'm thinking is that this is preventing the last word from hyphenating and is trying to keep it on the original line. There is no room for the entire word on that line, and it has to drop to the next line — which it's not letting happen.   At least that's how it seems. Am I right? If so, how can I get this to move the last word to the next line (and be an orphan)? [I cannot rewrite the text to make room for this orphan; I have to accept that.

Have somebody seen this kind of problem. One of magazines spread turned suddenly to grey and I can't apply master page attributes what i can do to fix this?

Hi, I am working on a document and whenever I create a new rectangle or ellipse the object shows as transparent even though the opacity is set to 100%. There are no transparencies applied under the FX section either - I cannot seem to find a solution to this issue!

I want to get the width of the parent(textFrame) of the current table.If the text box has only one column, the width is the entire text box width.If the text box has multiple columns, I want to get the width of one column. Suppose I have now selected the table and want to obtain myWidth.

Sometimes my image isn't inserted into the text box; instead, it sits above textFrameWhen I am only selecting the image, I want to retrieve the width of the text box. If the text box isn't split into columns, retrieve the full width of the text box. If it is split into columns, retrieve the width of one column.(or sometimes it may appear below the text)Thank you.

It's a few years since the last comments on this... do I really need to build my own bullets/sub-bullets/sub-sub-bullets/etc. heirarchy?  Is this another simple, basic thing that this tool lacks and I need to recreate or find a source to import from?  

Hello everyone! i'm planing to move several files from a server to OneDrive. This involves an structure where differents files are linked in InDesign documents. Is there a way to automatically change the path for all files to the new location at once? The case:InDesign link to current link from image on server:/Volumes/marketing/MarCom/Documents/Graphic/project1/picture1.pngNewInDesign link to the image in OneDrive:/Users/user/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive/Documents/Graphic/project1/picture1.pngWhat changes by moving the folders is the beginning of the path. Documents/Graphic/project1/picture1.png remains unchanged. I really apreciate you advice! Kind Regards,Victoria 

My TOC is two pages long. When I update it, the second page disappears, I get overset text, and I have to add a page at the end and place the overset text. This happens every time.I'm using a book file. Windows 11InDesign 20.5 x64

Hi, there are many other topics on this subject before and I found a temporary fix. The issue:When working on two or INND project, whiching from one project tab to the other sometimes causes INND to free and/or lag for many seconds before switching, sometimes minutes before finally making the switch to the next project tab.  The Fix:From my experience and messing around with this, I noticed that this is caused when one of the projects you are working on has missing fonts. It looks like INND is doing some work in the background when there are missing fonts which is causing it to lag when switching tabs. When there are no font-related errors, there is no lag when switching tabs.  I'll look into submitting this as a bug report too! Thanks

I've selected multiple rows and columns, but I want to get the first cell in each column. Basically I need to increase every digit in bold underline(bold underline for emphasis, not in original document) in the text below (just an example of much larger document) by 1 and I'm hoping there's some GREP or plug-in way to do it. If anyone has any ideas outside of indesign, I'm open to them too (word or excel etc!). InDesign no longer opens any pdf file. I tried plenty of times with various different files (even those that worked just fine a week ago) and nothing. It looks like some update completely messed up this function. I tried changing Acrobat's Enhanced Security and save file again I tried to re-export pdf again - nothing works. Other Adobe programms works just fine, it's just InDesign that suddenly lost its ability to open pdf

I'm trying to find periods with zero or more whitespace characters after them. Everything I can find says this should work, but it doesn't work for strings that have no whitespace (looking for a capital letter followed by a period): var capitalExpression = "^[A-Z]\\.\\s*"; This findsA. I just spent hours on this and haven't saved it til now (I know, my fault), but when I clicked save as, this modal popped up and I can't exit out of it or do anything in InDesign now. HELP!! I don't want to lose all this work.

Hi Guys, I'm a Designer in a company and I'm trying to set up a InDesign/InCopy-Workflow with one of our editors. My version is German, so I hope my translations are kind of correct.I designed a layout in InDesign and exported it for InCopy via "Edit -> InCopy -> All Texts". All files are saved in a folder in the Creative Cloud and I shared this folder with my colleague. So, unfortunatley when she is opening the file in InCopy on her Mac, there is an error message saying "Unable to lock following files ... " an then one of .icml-Files is named. So she is not able to check in or out and can't edit the text. You can see parts of the screenshot below. When I'm opening it on my system, everthing works fine. Anyone had this message before or got the solution for this?Thank you very much,Konstantin  

I've encountered kind of a weird glitch with the new "hidden pages" feature. So here's what happened:  InDesign crashed, taking edits on 3 or 4 documents with it. Ok, whatever, I've been riding the InDesign dragon for well over a decade at this point. I'll restart InDesign and recover what I can and re-do what I have to. Except I get an error that says "All pages can't be hidden." Weird--I didn't hide any pages. I don't even use that feature! But fine, I'll click "Unhide pages."  InDesign crashes. No amount of restarting or cache clearing fixes this, and I must abandon any hope of recovering my documents.  Has anyone else encountered this? 

Hi all,Need help in creating a floor plan via a hand drawn PDF.There is a background that the floor plan will go on.What do I do first?  Open the background, import the PDF, draw the lines, etc?Any help is greatly appreciated.  I gather I do this with layers, but can't find any real help via tutorials on same. Many thanks 🙂 

Ia m working on a book, which requests a proper names index. I have done it before, it works perfectly in older version of InDesign (5.0).Now I am using a new version of InDesign and the command simply does not work (shift+ctrl+alt+]).How can it be fixed?Yours, Janja
