Roto Brush - I'm working on selecting an object moving through a machine assembly line - the Roto Brush 'automatically' selects the majority of elements I guide it to select, however some areas, simply won't select. I could obviously use a mask, but this won't give me the same 'organic' Roto shape I'm used to - is there a way to just 'paint' a selection, without worrying about Roto Brush selecting it?
I have a magnifying loupe in the video that I want to animate. It zooms the underlying footage a bit more to give it that magnifying look. In the screenshot you can see the idea. How i'm trying to do it now is: Footage with person (A) -> Duplicated it (B) -> Mask on clip B -> Lasso clip B to layer with magnifying loupe. But doing that keeps the mask in a fixed place but moves clip B when I want to animate the loupe. Is there a quick and easy way to link mask to loupe properly and without any (paying) plugins?
Everytime when I open a project in After Effects it takes very long to open it. Sometimes it will take up to an hour to open a project. When I create a new project I will open immediatly but when it is a project I already made it will take that long to open
Hi, I'm new to the After Effects plugin sdk. I want to get the source file decoding time in complex scenarios, such as after time remapping.I found that "inData->current_time", "time_step", "total_time", "time_scale" is all about player time, NOT decode time. Thank you!
I am opening a project file and trying to search and replace misssing assets. The search function durning import is not working. I have to open another search window to find missing assets. Any help would be appreciated.

Generally work has gone smoothly with Roto Brush 2 in AE 17.5, but I'm about halfway through a 900-frame shot, and suddenly each corrective stroke causes a 30-second delay while it propagates the change. (I had previously jumped through the shot, beginning about halfway through, and applied Roto Brush strokes every five frames, and experienced the same long delays after each stroke.) I've tried narrowing the Roto Brush & Refine Edge span, but as soon as I make a new stroke, the span automatically expands back out to the full length of the shot. I've tried freezing and unfreezing propagation, which doesn't solve my problem. For bonus points, can someone explain how I can get propagation to go back towards the head of the shot? It always indicates it's going towards the end of the shot. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
Hi All,I have two users who are experiencing an issue with After Effects V 2024.The two users have exactly the same hardware setup. They are running the same macOS Sonoma operating system and the same version of AE, but unfortunately, they also have the exact same problem. After a few minutes of using After Effects, even on lightweight projects, the Mac freezes and often goes into kernel panic, forcing a restart. Needless to say, this problem causes significant inconvenience to the user who cannot use After Effects. What could I try to do to resolve this? I know that many others have had a similar problem (see the link). Currently, I have tried:Uninstalling AE version 2024 and reinstalling itResetting PRAMClearing the cacheI have not been able to solve it. The next steps will be to have the users try using AE in safe mode. And update to Sonoma 14.4 which has recently been released and the operating system has not yet been updated. It's incredible that a widely-used program like After Eff
Hi,I'm working on Adobe After Effects CC 2018 and having trouble to drag my files from the Project window into the Composition window. It just doesn't do anything. Is there a setting I need to change. Please help.
I seem to be having issues with a group of files I have been working on. It started with one, and now Im this issues with all of them. When I try to open the file, all I see are wireframes in composition window, no images (screenshot attached). When I try to preview I get the error message "Cached preview needs two or more frames to playback." And when I export to media encoder, it tends to stall and crash.*On a side note, I AM able to view the images in the precomps. Just not in the main timeline. The size of the working file is 6.9MB. There are also a lot of layered .psd links and around 11 precomps (not sure if that info is useful or helpful)Computer Specs:MAC OS High SierraProcessor: 3.2 GHzMemory: 8GGraphics: AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MBSoftware Specs:After Effects CC 15.1.2Media Encoder CC 12.1.2Things I've tried:- Restarts- Removing and reinstalling After Effects and Media Encoder- Checked for broken links- Preview mode: full- Empty Disk Cache- Clean Database and Cache- Set max mem
I've started getting low memory warnings again with 24.2.1 build 2 and Sonoma 14.3.1. This on simple, undemanding renders with an M2 and 96GB.
Take a look at this image and tell me what's going on. I have 2 shape layers, one's just a path with a stroke, the other is a square. I'm using Classic 3D and when I enable 3D on the shape layers they no longer align with their outlines. I am using a camera, here are the camera settings. When I change the view from Active Camera to Front then the shapes align with their outlines again so I think it has something to do with the camera. I don't think this should ever happen regardless of the camera settings but here we are. How do I fix it so I can use a camera (not the front view) and get an acurate representation of my shapes position visually and with the outline?
1)I'm on a mac, and sometimes when you click off the program, the entire program window hides. This is very frustrating as I am often dragging assets into the program or wish to have another program up at the same time, like a PDF storyboard for example. This bug has been around for at least 5 years. 2)Talking about hiding, I can't get the program to hide half the time. The icon in the dock starts bouncing when I try, but the program needs zero attention. I'm literally in the program already, but then I need to go to the dock to get it to stop bouncing and from freezing me out of the program.
AE has been giving me errors that it couldn't access cache files on render and I find now that Microsoft Defender is identifying the files as a Worm and deleting them. Is this a Defender error? Or do I have some known infection? Windows 11 Home v21H2AE 24.2.1
I've been experiencing an issue where any time I import graphics into premiere from after effects, severe aliasing will occur. The graphics (usually animated lower thirds in my case) will look fine on export, and they'll look fine when I initially bring them into my timeline, but if I save, close, and reopen the premiere project at all, they'll get chewed up. I end up having to re-export all of my graphics from after effects to fix it every time I reopen and close the premiere file, which obviously doesn't work for me. I'm including a before and after here: This also happens if I downsize my graphics at all. I'm up to date running version 24.2.1 for AE and Premiere. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and this has been an issue since before the previous update. Exporting to quicktime MOV, formatting that's always worked for me before. And again, the graphics look completely fine at first export, so while formatting could be causing the bug, I don't think the init
This issue has only happened to me recently. I don't think it began until around the last 2 weeks. I've been using the latest version of After Effects. My mouse button disappears from my screen when I hover over buttons in After Effects. It's only the buttons that change what the mouse cursor looks like (for example, the ones that change it from a triangle to a pointer finger, or the ones that change it into the double-sided arrow for expanding panels). I tried recording it in OBS, but the mouse is visible in the recordings. It's just not visible from my perspective, which makes it impossible to use certain features in After Effects. I need to see my mouse cursor. I use a Windows 11 desktop computer. I tried all the obvious troubleshooting. I got all my drivers uninstalled, reinstalled, and updated. I reverted to an old version of After Effects, and my mouse button is disappearing there too. It's only in After Effects, not other apps. I unplugged my mouse, plugged it back in. I uninsta
There seems to be a big issue with multi frame rendering when working on larger projects and files. My system specs:Ryzen 7950x64GB ddr5 ramRTX 40903x NVME ssds (one dedicated to AE cache)Windows 11 latest updatesAE version 23.3.0 (Build 53)I have a 6K comp project that I need to render. If multi frame rendering is enabled, AE will eat basically 99% of 64gb ram even though I have it set to reserve 16gb for other applications. And I have it set to reserve 10% of CPU.When I hit render I see the blue dashed bar spinning, preparing for render. I have task manager open and all I see is ram usage going to 99%, with AE using +50gb of ram (max should be ~45gb). The render hasn't even started yet and after a while the ram usage drops down and AE crashes without any error. Nothing else is running in the background and pretty much System is the next process that uses ~600mb of ram.I have attached the last crash file (all are the same) and the weirdest thing is it says that it's related to Nvidia d
if i import a 4k quality clip (3840/2160) to after effects then only the audio is imported and not the quality video what should i do
I have a 30-minute mp4 video that I shot with OBS, I throw it into the media encoder without applying any effects etc. and the size becomes 3 GB.What is the reason of this?- Please don't say lower the video bitrate.
For AE 2024 last update , Win 11 I Couldn't export this comp
I have been facing an issue with not only AE but Adobe stoftware in general where some days it suddenly decides to eat all of my Laptop's RAM without causing any problems, while others, it slows down everything. I dont know why this isn't happening all the time- sometimes a restart or a few fix the problem, while other times they don't. I have cleaned the Disk-Cache a few times as well, which also doesn't always help though. Just today I have been trouble shooting for the majority of the time, until, after one longer shut-down, AE ran smoothly again. Admittedly, there is reason to spuspect that this could be an issue with the PC as a whole; but since I mostly use Adobe/AE software while using it, sometimes having the entire laptop crash, I thought I'd ask here first. Also, all drivers (CPU & GPU) are on their latest version. Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
While rendering an image sequence from After Effect, there is no "Write ACES compliant EXR" like we have in nuke. The embed colour profile option from After Effect doesn't seem to have much effect. Even importing that footage back to After Effect, the media colour profile shows as none (using OCIO, not adobe color management). We have had a request from clients to provide image sequences in ACES for them to grade. While the output was definitely in ACES, the metadata had no information about it, so when they would bring it in the grading software it would return an error, allegedly. To get that metadata, we would then take that image sequence, process it through Nuke (read/write) with the "Write ACES compliant EXR" setting on. Is there a way to embed the colorspace in the metadata? If not can Adobe fix this please?
