Questions

This will be a tough two part question.With one template, we are having an issue where if you add a page break, FM will add disconected flow pages. For example, in a 9-page file, pages 6 and 8 will have headers and footers from the master page, but they will not have the dotted text border for the main flow content. So they aren't technically "Blank" pages.It seems to mostly happen before and after art pages (Page 7 has an anchored frame with an image on it.)Saving the file does not clear the pages. Manually selecting the pages does - i.e. Format>Document>Delete pages.But I would prefer to have a script so that I don't have to manually notice and remove the pages.Question 1: What causes this and how can it be stopped from happening.Question 2: I'm not sure how to prevent this. I found a script called RemoveEmptyPages from the .zip file at https://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker88.html That is designed to just delete empty pages at the end of the document and then stop. I tried

Right now, when I save a PDF, clicking a cross-reference or bookmark will jump to the destination and align it to the top of the screen in Acrobat.  What I need to have happen is that when you click the link it will show the full page view. i.e., If I have a cross-reference destination at the bottom of the page, I need to be able to see the full page and not just the paragraph that the cross-reference is linked to. Is this possible without having to redefine all of my links after saving out the PDF? Thanks.

I want the second page of my document to be blank - no headers or footers. If I manually go to Format>Page Layout>Master Page Usage>Custom - There is an option called None which achieve this. I have the following script:function ApplyMasterPages(doc){var bodyPage = doc.FirstBodyPageInDoc;bodyPage.ApplyPageLayout(doc.GetNamedMasterPage('Cover Page'));bodyPage = bodyPage.PageNext;bodyPage.ApplyPageLayout(doc.GetNamedMasterPage('None'));}It doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't remove the headers and foolters either.I realize I could create a new Master Page without headers or footers and name it "Empty" and apply that it would probably work, but that seems redundant when the built-in option "None" should work. Thanks for the assistance!

I am trying to create a structured version of one of my templates, but it is not going well. I create a conversion table of on of the main chapter files. I structure my chapter based on the conversion table. But for some reason FrameMakes seems to make a mess out of the table elements. It seems the element "Table" is missing and I suspect I shall have to create it manually in the conversion table? Perhaps?... What am I doing wrong here?   regards Bjørn

I am running FrameMaker Version: 17.0.1.305 - Unstructured. When I use the Save as Pdf feature, with or without Distiller, the process quite often won't finish. A pdf IS generated, but the dialogue is still open and won't close and the tps file is not being deleted. Eventually I will have to force a closing of FrameMaker leaving lots of *.lck files everywhere. It seems to make no difference whether I am using Save as Pdf or Publish to PDF. The only way to avoid it, is using Print to PDF.  What might be the problem and is there a fix?... regards Bjørn

Hi All, I want to programmatically create a structured FrameMaker book without using entities. Is there an equivalent XML syntax that I can use? I am using XSLT to create the book and I don't want to use entities if I can avoid it. Below is an example of a current book with its entity references. I believe I am running my head against something super simple, but never the less something I don't understand. I want to insert a table with a footer row in a DITA topic (or any other FM structured document), but for some reason that is not possible? The structure breaks in every context, and I have not been able to fix it either using the EDD. What is it that I don't understand here? Can anybody help? Using FM 2022 Unstructured. I added a second text frame to the master page and tagged it as "B" and unchecked the Autoconnect box in Text Frame Properties and the feature of deleting empty pages when saving no longer works. If I remove this text box from the body page and the master page, the feature will work again. I added no content to the text box on the body page and on the master page the text box is separate and not inside any other text box. Probably something simple I'm doing wrong but hope someone can help. Trying to set up an automatic List of Effective Pages. Thank you

I'm using a text frame in the footer with content from that text frame being used to create a List Of Effective Pages. I've run into a problem that in some files I am unable to set the cursor into the text box on pages after a certain point.  I am using left and right master pages and the problem is affecting both the left and right pages. I can type the information into the text box for many pages, 35 pages in one file and 85 pages in another but when I move the cursor to the next page, the text I type is placed in the text box on the previous left or right page. Can any one give me any hints as to what the problem might be? Thank you. 

Hi,   FrameMaker 17.0.1.305. I will get a new monitor for working at home, and I am thinking of a 4k monitor. Are there any issues? Is all the text of the FrameMaker dialogs now readable? Anything fuzzy? What happens, when I also use the monitor of my laptop monitor with only 1920 x 1080. Will applications on both monitors be displayed sharp and crisp? I am using Structured FrameMaker Version 17.0.1.305.  In a task topic, the "context" tag is required, if I want to add text above steps.  The "context" tag automatically displays the word "CONTEXT:"  in its own separate line, before the text.  I would like to remove the word "CONTEXT:"  I have an EDD that I have tried changing, called task.edd.fm.   I deleted prereq?, context?, from the General rule of the taskbody element.  It didn't change anything.   I cannot find the context element in the reference pages of either the EDD or an XML file. In the EDD body pages, I can locate the Element (Container): context, but I do not see where I can delete the prefix.Please let me know if you have any ideas that could help me.  Thanks!Brian  

Hi, We have a real problem with using Framemaker together with Photoshop or other Adobe apps. We puchased Framemaker as a VIP license. De other Adobe apps are purchesed in a Fixed Price license. We did it this way because Framemaker can't be bought in the Fixed price license. Both licenses have their own login on Creative Cloud. This results in a headache for the users using both Framemaker and Fixed price apps. Because they have to logout first from one license and logon for the other vice cersa. You can't use them simulaniously. De fixed price license  are federated ID's and the VIP license have a Adobe ID. In out old environment we could make two Adobe ID's in both licenses, that worked quite well (with some struggles when you wanted to install apps frome Fixed price tough). But in our new envorinment this is isn't possible. Is there a way to make te apps working simultaniously again? I just can't imagine that Adobe hasn't thought about this. Is there a way to change the baseline for a character in FrameMaker? I prefer to do this in my trademark statement. In InDesign I'd create a character style for the ® and have it 2 pts larger with a baseline shift of -2 so it wouldn't be so high. Also, with smaller copy, it is essential to make it larger than the font size so we don't end up with the R looking like a black dot when the ink spreads.

FMjsxLib as described on https://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker88.html has now reached version 1.7. It comprises about 240 functions, most accompagnied by a demo script. The documentation has reached about 380 pages. IMHO it has become useful information for new scripters - especially due to Rick Quatros chapter "Automation with ExtendScript".

We urgently need to upgrade our FrameMaker version from 2019 to 2022. Before we run ahead, I am wondering if I need to take any precautions to make sure that we don't lose current style definitions, master and reference pages, conditions, or anything else. Is there anything special that needs to be done either during installation or when opening up the files with the higher version for the first time? Or will it just be good to go, and I can continue working as I was without any interruptions? 

Hi,   FrameMaker 17.0.1.305. I have a few simple equations which are created with the regular equation editor, not MathML. These equations use a pre-defined font which looks like Times. My company font is Google Open Sans Light. Very different. Therefore I would like to change the equation font at least for regular characters, but I do not find a way to do this. In the online help it says: To change the font for Greek characters and symbols, choose one of the available fonts from the Math Symbols drop-down list, and click Set. However, there isn't any Math Symbol drop down list. Or at least I could not find it. When I tried to change this setting in maker.ini, then FrameMaker always crashed: [Fonts] MathFamily=Symbol I tried Open Sans and a few variations with Regular and Light. FrameMaker always crashed. I am running Structured FrameMaker Version 17.0.1.305.   I'm trying to change an EDD.  To do that, I believe I have to import the element definitions from the changed EDD (task.eddmod.fm) into something called a "task template."Where exactly is this task template?   To my understanding, all of my templates are in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2022\Structure\xml\DITA\outputTemplates  (screenshot below). I really appreciate any help.  Thanks. 

After checking in both the Structured Frame reference and user guides, I got the impression that the default handling of comments would be adequate for my needs, and it would not be necessary to create additional import/export rules (such as I already have for cross references). This does not seem to be the case.I have an XML document which is conformant with my XML schema and with the associated EDD. I added an XML comment in the middle of the file with a text editor:<!-- this is a test comment -->and loaded the file into FrameMaker. There is a pre-processing XSL script - which copies comments through - and a post-processing script which does likewise.Viewing the document in FrameMaker I could not see the comment in either the structure view or the document view, and if I ran Find looking for markers it did not find any comments.I inserted a marker, type comment, with marker text "this is a Frame comment", and created it. I'm using FM 2022, trying to apply two DITAVAL files to an XML task file within a ditamap to produce a PDF. As I understand branch filtering, placing two ditaval files in a topicref will produce one document with two sections, each section reflecting the ditaval conditioning on the source topic. we are developing an information platform for our partners, which they should reach via a simple link without login.Now there is a requirement to prefix a license info when clicking the link and only when accepting the license terms the HTML project opens. The accepted license should be saved as a cookie and thus remain a necessary part when calling the project.Intuitively, I would see this task with the web developers, right? Does anyone know of any features/settings in Robohelp that are necessary or supportive or helpful?

This is a two-part question.I added two disconnected pages as they needed to be landscape as opposed to portrait. After adding the two disconnected pages, I created a table that has 14 rows. So upon adding that number of rows, the table was then populated to a portrait page that I did not add. Can someone explain to me what happened and how I can fix it to where the table is completed on the two landscape pages I added? In correlation to the landscape pages I added, the Headers and Footers on now on the right and left sides of the layout, but I need to put them on the top and bottom of the layout. I’m unable to figure out how to do that. Is someone able to explain how I make that change?

This has been an issue for a long time, wondering if it can be fixed or if there is a work around. When batch importing files into a new unstructured book, the files always import in the reverse order of what they need to be.  i.e.: 1.fm2.fm3.fm In explorer will import as: 3.fm2.fm1.fm Is there a way to batch import files so that I don't have to reorder the book every time?  Thanks.

Hi allFile Info fields in FrameMaker 2022 being automatically filled with unwanted text, even after we have deleted it.The metadta fields like Subject and Keywords contain text that we want to remove from all the files in a book. We open each file and remove the text, save the files, and close the book. When we reopen the files the unwanted text back again in the Subject and Keywords fields. Ideally, we would like to remove the unecessary text completely from the files.  However, we cannot find where the text is stored.  It does not appear in the Variables list, but must have been manually added by a previous writer because it's a specific company part number. Does anyone know where the text is stored?  How to remove the text from the File Info fields without it returning? Thanks for the help!
