Hello,  I am searching for a sollution to write a script that scales the artboard in Illustrator. What I need is a script that does as follow: I make my artwork en select everything. From this selection, the script wil adjust the size of the artboard. The artboard will have the same size as the artwork but with an extra margin around it. For example 10mm above, under, left and right from the artwork.  This is what I have so far, but it only shrinks in the width: var docRef = app.activeDocument;var index = docRef.artboards.getActiveArtboardIndex();pdtRedim(index,docRef);function pdtRedim(idx,doc){var ab, rect0, rect;ab = doc.artboards[idx];rect0 = ab.artboardRect;doc.fitArtboardToSelectedArt(idx);rect = ab.artboardRect;rect = [rect[0],rect0[1],rect[2],rect0[3]]ab.artboardRect = rect;} Thank you in advance!

What happened to the "free distort" function?There was a time (and a huge number of videos testify it) when pressing the "Free Transform Tool" Illustrator presented you with four other command button, among them the "free distort" function that allowed you to move the handles of your shape to distort it and create custom perspectives af whatever. Now, when you press the "Free Trasform Tool" nothing happens, and the function in itself is almost useless, it only scales or rotates the shape. Also the shortkeys that should work on that tool according to Adobe documentation, clearly do not work.If you look at the "Effect" menu, you can find a "Free Distort" command."Good" you could think! No, think it again, beacause the functionality provided is ridiculous: a small window appears where you have to move the handlers to distort the shape. I have been working on a Design for 2 days. I have saved the file every half an hour and check was checking my work consistantly. My computer was really slow and I had to close everythign down and restart my computer. On opening the file from the recent (and seeing all of the layers and elements spread far and wide in the small window, on opening the file, it had been flattened and all of my layers had disappeared. I can see them in the file under recent, but it wont open. I am freaking out!!! How do I recover the entire file with all of its layers! Please help! 

Hey all,  Just wondering if there's a shortcut to copying my custom stroke styles--from the stroke toolbar--I created from AI 2023 to 2024...every year I just end up remaking these, and I'm sure there's a glaringly easy answer?  Thanks much.

Hello everyone,I have put some illustrations I created in Illustrator into my CC library and want to export them as SVGs back in Illustrator. When I take the illustrations out of the library and put them back into an Illustrator file, they need to be embedded in order to export them as svgs. But if the illustrations have rounded shapes and transparent gradients, the gradients in the exported file are either gone or they are somehow cut off.  If the gradients do not contain transparencies there is no problem, even simple shapes are no problem. You can see an example here (screenshot of the exported svg file, in the third row there is the cut of gradient) I suspect it has something to do with the clipping masks of the gradients that appear as soon as the illustration is embedded. Because if I delete the clipping masks, the problem disappears. But I would like to have a solution where I don't have to change the illustrations after I have taken them from the CC Library.&nbsp

Hi!  I have some shapes cover over others with its white color. I want to maintain this appearance and extract its outline only. How can I do this? [ ↓ I want to extract the outline like this without fill but maintain the current appearance and the layering of the current white shape fills.][↓There are layering shapes underneath... I don't want the below shapes pop up on the extraction] 

Hi there, I do prepress set up and I sometimes lay out multiples of the same image on a substrate.  I linked so I can just switch out and it keeps the overall print files smaller then embedding them.  So before one of these lastest 2 updates of Illustrator, I was able to just click  on a new link when I would repopen the ai file and it would allow me to swap them out all at the same time. then move to the next link if it was different.  Now, I have to make sure I click the little box underneth and when I do it still only replaces that one, it doesn't update them all like it used to when i was ask if I wanted to update all. (now I only get an ignore all)  Is there a new work around for this?   It really slows down when I have to lay out hundreds of images out for prepress.. yikes..  any help would be greatly appreaciated. . this has become a headache now at work and I haven't found a solution myself yet.

Hello guys! I was drawing as usual and suddenly Color Picker window became pixelish. I mean instead of normal color gradient I have a few pixels and I can't normally choose needed colors. What is that and how it can be fixed? P.S. I have already reloaded Illustrator and my laptop

Hello! I'm running into a similar issue to these two posts (post 1, post 2); however, the same fix is not working. Even shortening the swatching theme name to one character results in the same issue.  When I'm importing the swatch theme, Illustrator does not import the swatch correctly. Instead, Illustrator imports the CC Library color as a Magenta Spot Color. The suggested workaround is to shorten the CC Library item's name to match the maximum allowed characters for an Illustrator Swatch, and then import the color. However, this is not working either. Is there a new bug?

My illustrator won't open a cloud file and I can't download it. The message comes up saying this cloud document contains objects that are not compatible with the current illustrator version. Does anyone know how to access this type of document ?? Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with SVG files, which started a few days ago. Before that, all my Vector images would be exported and imported without any issue, but now, when I reimport an SVG file, the image is distorted. In the image attached, you can see how the image is supposed to look like the original above. Below, you can see the same image after exporting and reimporting. Does anyone have insight into how I can troubleshoot this error? Thanks!

I just installed Illustrator and it doesn't appear in: stylize/drop shadow nothing appears in stylize.should I reinstall?THX

Hi there. As a newbie to illustrator I need help with what may be a simple task to you all  .... but it's driving me nuts as i cant find a video!!!  Let me explain .... I've got 8 different A6 size card designs that I need my printer to print for me.   I have put 8 onto an sra3 size art board - 4 on the top line and 4 on the bottom line .... but .... 1)  How do I align all 8 of them so they are equally spaced? 2)  how do I add the crop/trim marks as my artwork doesn't have an outline so the printer can cut to size for me? Any help that you can offer would really be appreciated!! Thank you in advance ☺️

I am creating nametags in Illustrator and I want to use the variables to import data. However, this is also being sent to a printer and I need the trim marks and bleeds visiable on all pages. Is it possible to save a document with variable data as a PDF? Or how would someone suggest doing this?  Thanks! 

Okay this is a tough one to explain, and it might be such a silly question but I've been using AI for too long to see it lol: Let's say I have a group (L1) within a group (L2) within a group (L3). If I am on L0 and want to get to L3, I can double-click my way in 3 times. Is there a way to get from L3 to L2 without going back to L0 (ESC) and back in? Hope this super strange writing format gets the question across.

I have a path I want to adjust one of the handles at an anchor.  I normally would have just selected the anchor point, held ALT, then moved the handle.  But when I press the ALT key I get a + and it COPIES the path!!!This recently started happening.  How the heck do I fix this?

I work in a team of designers and the company has chosen a new font.Ever since we started using the font it causes Illustrator to freeze and then crash. Anyone else have this issue and maybe a solution?? Everyone is on version 28.3 Cheers,Joel

Buongiorno, illustrator si è improvvisamente bloccato facendo visualizzare il messaggio "impossibile completare anteprima", e tutti gli elementi nella schermata sono scomparsi lasciando soltanto i contorni dei tracciati neri su sfondo bianco. Il messaggio è comparso diverse volte al tentativo di riaprire i files, e anche dopo svariati tentativi di riavvio del pc e di illustrator il problema persisteva, fino a quando è comparso il messaggio "impossibile completare l'anteprima per memoria insufficiente", visualizzando sempre la schermata con solo i contorni neri e tutte le immagini e il testo scomparsi. Anche dopo avere liberato spazio in memoria nel pc, avere chiuso ulteriori applicazioni e riavviato nuovamente il pc illustrator continua a non funzionare correttamente. Adesso tentando di aprire alcuni files non solo non mi fa visualizzare nulla se non i contorni neri, ma mostra immediatamente all'avvio la finestra "controllo sfocatura" che risulta bloccata e il comando "A

I've recently started using Illustrator, and when using images with the 3D inflate tool, it won't apply.  My process has been to, first, apply a colored background, then add the PNG image, then group them, and apply the 3D Inflate effect. While it applies to the Backgroud Rectangle, and any other basic shapes I have grouped, it won't apply to the image. What should I do to fix this? 

Greetings, I dragged objects into the Library window to create a graphic asset in Illustrator and it's given a default name of "Artwork 1". I then renamed the file to "rename-test" and then dragged it into both an InDesign file and a blank illustrator file, and I noticed that the listed name says "rename-test" in the Libraries window in both apps, but the actual link name is still listed as "Artwork 1.ai".
