I am trying to recreate the yearbook for my high school graduating class (1966). Since it is 95% pictures, I am targeting a fixed format ePUB book (and a Kindle format) for the final output. Exporting to fixed format ePUB, the primary TOC is properly formatted and the links to relevant pages also work. However, a secondary TOC (later in the document) which is an alphabetical list of seniors meant to link to individual 5x7 instances of the “thumbnail” images in the yearbook gets “stuck” about halfway through the second page of this secondary TOC.  Looking at the links tab, the 5x7 photo of the point it gets stuck is listed as a link but with no associated page.  I created a TOC style for this secondary TOC and a paragraph style for the captions for each photo. I then ad that caption paragraph style into the TOC style. As noted, this works for the first dozen or so entries then stops. The problem apparently is the missing page link but why is it missing? Hi please how to do I do a simple paragraph space in an InDesign document? In Word, you press the enter button but this does not make a space in the InDesign template I am working in when I press enter. I have tried changing the space before and after values in the paragraph settings. But even then when I type enter after a paragraph, the cursor just disappears altogether and anything I type doesn't show up on the page. 

-Windows 11 Pro, version 24H2-latest version of InDesign (20.1 x64) - 2025-brand new powerful Dell XPS 8960 The entire Roboto Condensed family is properly installed on my computer via the font installation files (not Adobe CC Fonts), and all of the font weights show up in InDesign except for 'Roboto Condensed Bold'. It is working properly in other apps such as Word, even Illustrator, but not InDesign or Photoshop. A while ago, Roboto Condensed Bold was 'added' on Adobe Fonts in Creative Cloud (but not installed). I then 'removed' it in Adobe Fonts, and installed the Roboto Condensed family via font files on my system. All of them work in InDesign/Photoshop except for 'Bold.' I'm thinking there is an issue with my system's font registry or font cache? But the problem only shows up in InDesign/Photoshop. Already tried uninstalling all Adobe apps + CC desktop, running the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, re-installing the apps, log out, log in...still have the problem:&nb

Hello, I'm a rookie user of Adobe Indesign and creating epub docs so I apologize ahead of time for the gaps in my learning. I have a paperback version of a book ublished on Amazon (I did not do the publishing/design work), and I'm attempting to publish a Kindle version on my own. So far I have done the following-1. Opened my two final draft files for my paperback, the cover final and interior final.2. I made a few font substitutions as needed.3. Exported both the cover and interior files as ePub reflowable. 4. Opened both files in Kindle Previewer. Most of  the interior looks good in Kindle Previewer. The exception is that the table of contents somehow now appears at the end of the book instead of at the beginning. Also the title page merges with the copyright page instead of being separate pages. I also have photo caption pages at the end which now are all spread out and sloppy.  The cover design looks fantastic in Indesign and looks good to go. In Previewer t

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows why this is a thing. I create a US Letter sized document in InDesign, create the document based on the guidelines provided with a standard bleed, and when I go to print the design does not fit onto the letter size paper in the printer. For the past 20 years, my fix was just "Scale To Fit"... but why? Why is this a problem? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to create a document specific to each printer's margins? Or is this just the nature of the beast?

Hi everyone, i am having masssive problems with Indesign. Im on Windows 11  and am running the latest version of InDesign. I was having some issues with InDesign and read that resetting the preference might be the answer. So i used the ctrl+shiftr+alt method and reset them. Since then it wont open at all. The splash screen appears for a millisecond then dissapears. I then found another article that suggested renaming the Indesign folder to Indesign.old but that hasnt worked either. All other programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Acrtobat etc are all working fine) Its really frustrating and i need InDesign for my day to day work. Can anyone helpo me with other possiuble solutions. Thanks. David

I have a strange glitch with Indesign. I often reference layered Illustrator files into Indesign, then use the 'object layer options' to toggle frames on/off. I have turned off content aware fit under Preferences/General, and I have 'Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking' checked in File Handling preferences.On a current file, if I switch off some layers in my Illustrator fiel via Indesign's Object layers dialogue, the Illistrator fiel moves to a totlaly new point in my Indesign page!!This is unexpected and buggy behaviour that I havent noticed before with this common operation.I made a little video to illustrate this — see how the silhouetted figure on one FIXED layer  moves when other illustrator layers are switched off!Im not sure if this is a new bug or local to my particular pair of files...  thanks for looking...

I've been having a problem with duplicate images paths when exporting to xml. When I have two duplicate images with different source paths, the exported xml points the images to the same path. Example:Image1.pngImage2.pngWith the following images, below is the exported xml:<Root href_fmt="Image1.png" href="file:///<DIRECTORY>/Image1.png"></Root> <Root href_fmt="Image2.png" href="file:///<DIRECTORY>/Image1.png"></Root> Thanks in advance!

All layers are unlocked. I can only more things by arrow keying them around with the keyboard. Can't grab with the mouse and drag to a different position. Can copy and paste. But only arrow key the item arround. I've reset preferences. Uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign. Rebooted the computer several times. It just doesn't work. Is this a recent update issue?

I need to export a document in extremely high resolution (press quality PDF is not good enough). I have exported the indesign file to eps, but when I go to open the file in illustrator and/or photoshop, I get an error message. Illustrator says "unknown error", photoshop says it's unable to parse. Any ideas how to get around this problem?  Or alternatives to saving as eps in extremely high quality given that press quality PDF is not good enough? TIA

Any ideas why this script isn't working as desired? When opening Indesign v20.1 it gets stuck loading on ‘Calling Late Initializers’. All other Adobe aps working fine. Macbook is updated, with Sequoia 15.2. Latest version of Indesign is update. I’ve treid opening by reseting Indesign Preferences. Cleared Cache files. Removed Erroed fonts. Have no third-party plugins. Run Indesign in Safe mode. Unintsalled and re-installed. Shut down macbook and restarted. Stilll stuck. How do I resolve this? 

I'm working on existing InDesign document with a table of contents, and I'm seeing this row of dots that perfectly aligns and changes based on how much text I write. I want to replicate it but not sure how to. I looked at the hidden characters and none seem to have this. I'm guessing it's with the paragraph styles but I can't figure out what option it is.  

Trying to see if there is a resolution to the following. I want to set up a way to establish a style where I am using both Rule Above and Rule Below for two different purposes. One establishing a white box below the type so that it reads over photos and can adjust based on the type without creating a secondary box and one where it adds a thin rule below the type (an underline) that does the same. The problem is that no matter how I set up the thin rule, on the turn the white rule of second line blocks the thin rule of the line above it. I don't want to change type specs if I don't have to. I know I can adjust the white rule to be smaller so that it doesn't overlap with the thin rule, but I am wondering if there is a way to make the subsequent lines display below the previous ones. Hello, all of a sudden, it's impossible to move text and image blocks or move pages with the mouse, when I switch my indesign window to my 2nd screen. My mouse turns into a "crossed out circle".I can only make changes with the arrows on my keyboard...When I go back to my principal screen, everything is normal. I have already reinstalled indesign and its preferences, I don't have any locked layers. I am on labtop HP spectre, windows 11 24H2 update 02/01/25.Thank you very much for your help!

I have published a 15-part magazine series online, protected by a paywall. Publishing each issue online was without problems and I know how to publish InDesign files using the Publish Online dialogue box. At the time I did NOT allow subscribers to download the magazines. They had to be read online using their password. However, I am going to close the website and delete all the files, but I want all paid subscribers to be able to download the files first. Am I able to change the preferences to allow subscribers to download the files, and if so, how dod I do that? Or, do I have to republish all the magazines, allowing them to be downloaded, and delete the original files? This seems like a slow process, compared with being able to just change the preference on a file already uploaded. I have looked at the Publish Online Dashboard, and can see all the files, but can't see any way to change the preferences. Thanks in advance.

Hello - I'm very new to InDesign and have some beginner-level experience with other Adobe products (Illustrator and Photoshop). I am using this annual report template to create a document. I can load the file in CS6 and edit existing text with no issues. However, when I add additional pages by going to Layout -> Pages -> Insert Pages, all of the text and objects on the newly inserted page are locked and I can't edit anything. The "unlock all on spread" option under "Objects" is grayed out, I changed my general preferences to allow selection of locked objects, I checked to make sure none of the layers are locked, and I don't see an unlock icon anywhere when I hover over the upper left of any individual text box (all solutions I found in other threads when I googled this). Not sure if maybe this is just a limitation of working with a template (in general or specifically this one), that they don't actually let you add new pages and you have to work with the existing ones? Any pointe
