Hi, I am newbie to photoshop scripting but I do have few years experience with Javascript. Looking for clarification as I can't figure out what is going on here. I was looking for solution how to get array of selected artLayers and layersSets. I found couple solutions on blogs and forums which works, but I can't figure out what that code actually does so may someone could explain it line by line or point me to normal documentation as I found http://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/photoshop/pdfs/photoshop_scriptref_ js.pdf doesn't explain anything just gives list of available functions. How ActionDescriptor, ActionReference works, how returned object by executeActionGet(ref) is structured and how Photoshop stores actions in memory. var ref = new ActionReference();var selectedLayers = [];ref.putEnumerated( // Puts an enumeration type and ID into a reference along with the desired class for the reference. //why I do need use putEnumerated? what
Hi Folks, So i searched quite a bit and could not land on any meaningful documentation around this aspect of PS scripting. I am clear that this provides us access to low level functionality not exposed on the DOM but beyond this i am lost. Some questions that might be trivial are listed below What is ActionDescriptor, ActionReference, ActionList etc. What do they actually map to, or in other words which one is used for what purpose Using the scriptlisterner plugin we can get code to automate user actions done on the PS UI. So far so good, but what about the scenarios where we need to get values from the document. Lets take an example of counting the number or artboards in the document and then accessing properties like height. width, rotation for each of these. Where do we start for this? When to use charIDToTypeID vs stringIDToTypeID. How are their arguments determined etc I see lots of code snippets shared, but none gives an insight as to how it was written, how di
Hi Adobe Community, I’m looking to upgrade my device (either laptop or desktop) mainly for work within the Adobe Photoshop ecosystem — things like high-res photo editing, using multiple layers, smart objects, brushes, and occasionally working with RAW files in Camera Raw. Before making a purchase, I’d love to get some real-world input from fellow Photoshop users: What are the ideal specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD vs. HDD) for Photoshop in 2025?Is GPU performance still important for Photoshop, or should I prioritize CPU and RAM?Would 16GB RAM be sufficient for professional use, or is 32GB now the sweet spot?Any device or monitor recommendations specifically optimized for color accuracy and Photoshop workflows? Are there any known compatibility or performance issues with the latest version of Photoshop and certain hardware? I’d really appreciate your insights before I commit to a new setup. Whether you’re a full-time creative or a casual editor, your experience matters!
Hello all. After one of the recent PS updates I noticed an annoying glitch in Photoshop with my Wacom stylus. If I have part of the image selected (with Lasso/Marquee tools) and then try to move the said selected part (with Move Tool) a small distance, it snaps back to original location when I complete the action (rise the stylus from the surface).Sometimes it works as intended and doesn't snap back, but most of the time it snaps back. This is wrong and unusable. Please fix this!Or, if this is a "feature", how do I turn this nonsense off?More info:View > Snap and View > Snap To are both off. This only affects operations with stylus. Doing the same with mouse is fine.Photoshop is updated to the latest version (24.1.1).Windows and drivers are updated to the latest versions.I'm using Wacom Cintiq 27 QHD.This started happening after one of the last PS updates, so something was changed/broken in one of those updates. Here is a video demonstration:https://youtu.be/J2yaG5CycwI
DANKE! LG Coco

Hi,I created a second user on my computer for my son, he is only 14 years old and loves and is learning Adobe applications. In the second user session on the computer, the programmes asked me to log in again. But I was afraid that my account would be suspended as a result of the same Adobe autorun being opened in several different places. Does anyone know anything about this? Can the same Adobe account programmes be used in two different sessions on the same computer? After all, it would not be possible to have two sides open at the same time.
I'm not using a VPN and it was working a couple days ago any help would be appreciated many thanks
Hello,I'm running into an issue with the Select and Mask tool. Once you click the button and enter the workspace, you can't see live edits, especially when using the Refine Hair button. The changes only appear after exiting the tool, which makes it difficult to work accurately. I'm using the latest version of Photoshop. I downloaded the beta version to test, and the issue doesn't occur there. It works as expected. For reference, my machine is running Windows 11.Thank you,Sean Jones
Sometimes (perhaps most of the time, but it's hard to tell) after modifying brush settings, when I click on a different brush, some or all of the brush settings won't change to what should be preset in the brush I just selected; the settings will stay how I had just tweaked them (which I thought would be temporary). Which settings "stick" seems random, but I assume it's not. It has happened with brushes from multiple sources: my own that I tried to carefully craft with settings I want and saved as new brushes, the PS default ones like Hard Round, Adobe's "Kyle" sets, and Aaron Blaise sets I bought. Imagine, for example (what just happened to me to cause me to finally reach out to you guys), after working on fur with a texture brush and some adjusted settings for the current need, you notice a solid color spot you missed earlier, so you switch to the basic Hard Round, pick the color, touch pen to tablet, and see a comical sight: Hard Round drawing with size, scattering, and color jitter
Hello all! I have a pretty simple workflow for basic product photography, usually just a levels layer, a layer for healing/cloning out dust and product flaws, and occasionally some other adjustment layers. Typical file size ranges from 250-500mb on average working in 16bit. I've had the same workflow for almost 2 years now, but for some reason out of nowhere my save time has gotten ridiculous, in some cases 5+ minutes per file. This would make sense for more complex composites or heavy duty retouching, but that feels excessive for just a few adjustment layers and some cloning. I tried deactivating file compression in my preferences and that doesn't seem to have had any effect. Did something happen in the recent update to cause this? Is there some random setting that got changed, added, or flipped on? Working on an ASUS ProArt Studiobook with Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H, 2300 Mhz, 14 Core(s), 20 Logical Processor, 32GB of Memory, an
I migrated all my brushes from Photoshop 6 to CC. All of my soft brushes now have hard edges. They even show up in the brush picker panel with hard edges. I need my soft edges back.
hello! im having an issue with my undo hotkey command unwantedly activating my Magnifying Lens tool; i have edited my hotkeys so that Ctrl+Z activates the infinite "Undo" command, but if i hit that hotkey quickly in succession to undo multiple strokes, suddenly the magnifying tool becomes activated? I have tried snooping in the preferences to see what might be activating the magnifying lens tool but i cant even find it listed in the hotkeys or preferences. i want to be able to undo a lot quickly (not with inhuman speed or anything that should confuse the program) without the magnifying tool becoming activated. why is this happening? can i fix this? thank youhere are some screencaps that hopefully help if this hasnt been clear enough; picture 1 shows the finished drawing, picture 2 shows the drawing after hitting the Undo hotkey once, and picture 3 shows the magnifying tool newly activated after "Undo-ing" multiple times via the hotkey quickly.
Mac Studio M1, 32 GB RAM, PS 26.8.1 - a file with 10-12 layers, LZW, 25-35MB on drive, Wacom connected. It takes 15-25 seconds to save a TIF file. If I have to save 3-5 files it takes even more for a file. Photoshop renders PNG relatively quick, the only problem is with saving source files. ...and why an idle Photoshop uses 48GB of memory (Purge option is not available!)...?
as Subject, but change to another screen mode then no, and i using macbook chip M2
With the conversion to limited credits, I have been selective about my usage but each time I have used it, the system has produced options with zero change to the image. Example, "remove shadow". All three options did nothing with the shadow. I reported it and deleted the layer. Prior to the change, I used it several times in many images and it was amazing. Something is wrong. I worry that the standard plans have been assigned to the less trained machines. Regardless, I think we should not be docked the required 3 credits on results that do nothing. There is a way to show the image and the results. Zero result options should be credited back to the account. A standard account gets 240 credits but it is really only 80 uses per month because since we are charged for 3 options per request. That's not much at all and hurts worse when results are sub par.
Hi all, I have a question about placing images in Photoshop. For example, if you have an A4 and you place an image of 6000x4000 pixels 300dpi in the background, will this be pixelated on the print? Or should I set the image in A4 format 210x297? I would like to know this because I don't yet understand the proportions in relation to 300/72 dpi and what the correct size should be for each image.
Why are we limited to credits for AI now when photoshop gets it wrong more than it gets it right??? I think until their AI improves they shouldn't be charging credits. I'd say 9 out of 10 are wasted because Adobe puts something that makes zero sense - ie food, bowls, etc. It's not quite there to be having to pay extra because of all the mistakes it makes - will be searching for alternatives to photoshop even if i have to use multiple tools to do it. RIDICULOUS!
Issue: Photoshop does not handle "Cancel" in "Duplicate" image menu command correctly when called from within an action Photoshop version: 26.8.1OS: macOS 15.5Steps to reproduce:Create a new action and enter the menu command "Duplicate" from the Image menu, with user interaction.Optionally add actions to be run after duplication.Save & run the action, when prompted for the filename of the duplicate, press the "Cancel" button or the Escape key. Expected result:Photoshop stops the execution of the action (without duplicating the image) Actual result:Photoshop continues as if the "OK" button or Return key was pressed, duplicates the image and continues with the action commands after the duplication step. Note:Calling the "Duplicate" command from the image menu directly (not from within an acion) works as intended.
I'm suprised I didn't see a thread for this already. But when I'm using a tablet on Mac OS and PS, the cursor changes to an arrow when the stylus is not touching the screen. This happens on many versions of PS, with a Wacom and XP-Pen with latest updates for everything. Is this expected behavior? It doesn't happen in any other software I use for doing digital art, including zbrush, and other painting apps. I saw other users talking about a couple settings, and none of those work. This almost seems like expected behavior and it's really distracting and bad. Can anyone help me out?
Resizing the panel distorts the content; No other panel affected. Only LIbraries Mac Book Pro / Sequoia 15.5 / PSHP 26.8.1
When I deleted all texts on my text box in Adobe photoshop, and went to another object layer, then when I came back to that blank text box (of whose texts were deleted) and everytime I clicked on that text box, it would not let me into that box to enter or edit the text, clicking on that text box created a new text box on it. I am not able to type in / enter a text into that blank Text Box I created earlier. How wil I solve this issue ?
Já estou cogitando seriamente a possibilidade de deixar a Adobe porque desde que passsei a usar o Photoshop especificamente, tenho sempre presenciado os mesmos bugs e as mesmas falhas de sempre e nunca há uma correção para o problema.Meu Photoshop tem travado constantemente e fechado sozinho me levando a perder trabalhos.
My only plugin is Camera Raw. I've tried to uninstall and restart with no luck. I'm currently running an older version (v26) that seems to be mostly stable but still crashes during some actions. Recently when I went to open Photoshop i rec'd an error message which stated "Could not load actions because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered" which then was followed by another message "Could not initialize Photoshop because the preference file was invalid (it has been deleted). Does anyone know how to fix this? I remember seeing a post similar to this but can't seem to find it now.
