Hi. I'm working with a help system that consists of 28 merged CHM files. There are many topics that have links to topics in other CHM files. The issue is that we now want to publish the help online -- but we want to keep the CHM files too.For new links, I think I would approach this by creating two links, one for the CHM output and one for the web output, and use conditional tags to control which appears in the output. My problem is what to do with the hundreds of existing links. I don't have the bandwidth to manually change all of them. So I need an automated way to update the links. My original post had a code sample with a link that landed me in the moderator queue. I'll replace it with an image showing what I hope to accomplish...Has anyone tackled this type of situation? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Ashley
Robohelp HTML version 7.00.145I have successfully caused the completed .CHM window to accurately state the name of our product with which my online help is published. However, I cannot figure out how to change the title bar of my project as I am WORKING on the project. It doesn't affect the output, but it makes me nervous. We are releasing two different versions of our product, with completely different version names, in close proximity, and I want to minimize the chances of anybody (including me) getting confused. The attached screen capture shows the ways that I have NOT succeeded in changing my project name in the Robohelp project interface's title bar. I wish this was larger, but the project title bar at extreme upper left does not match all the places where I have successfully (thank goodness) changed our product name as displayed in the completed .CHM file's displayed windows.I've looked carefully through Window Properties and its Advanced Properties, as seen above.I've also looked
Hello,I had import a Word document into RoboHelp 2015.The problem is, all images are not in full size. I do right-click on each picture > Reset size. But this process is very long and I would like know an another method for import as original picture size or reset all pictures by a macro.Best regards,Johan
My company just upgraded to IE11 and now our RH9 project does not display the TOC and the search does not work. Any suggestions or advice?
RoboHelp HTML Version 10Hi all,I was trying to change the name of a variable like I have done in the past, but received an error message in the middle of changing it. I apologize, I didn't note it at the time because I did not believe there would be a follow up issue. After restarting RoboHelp, I now have a duplicate variable of everything I have entered to this point. I have tried changing one of the variables thinking it might just be a glitch, but it does not affect the other variable. I have restarted my computer and it is not an issue with that either. Does anyone know what could have caused this and more importantly a way to fix it without going through each individual variable and deleting it?
I have a problem with generated Web help: Left aligned text in header is shown right aligned in Explorer (9, 10 and 11) with RH 11.It puzzles me what has changed since RH9 where this never happened:1) the header is set up in the Master page.2) when generated the individual html page show it correctly when displayed in Explorer:here seen as a topic3) However when customers access the webhelp they see it right-aligned:I'm baffeled and at my wits end. Help!
All of my links now need to open in a new window. However, the page default has them all opening in the same frame. I have to manually change the setting for every link by going into Properties>Advanced and clicking New Window from the dropdown.I changed that setting on one link, and looked into the HTML code to see the command. But there didn't appear to be any way I could use that command (target="_blank) in a Search and Replace function in each project because I need to insert it into the hyperlink code, which is always unique. "Search and Replace" was Plan B when I couldn't find any way to change the setting in the project. How do I do this? I have a massive number of links to update with this command. I really need to automate it. Thanks!CODE TO OPEN IN NEW WINDOW<a href="http://portal.hud.gov/huddoc/13-01ml.pdf" target="_blank">HUD Mortgagee Letter 2013-1</a>CODE TO OPEN IN SAME FRAME<
Map file is not locked. Can not Assign, Unassign, or Auto-map in Edit Map IDs dialog. I have done this before many times in earlier version of Robohelp with no problem.
I'm using RH 11.0.4.291. Has anyone experienced this before (see screen capture)? I want to fix this so I don't leave it for future tech writers. Any suggestions are appreciated.
In a legacy project, I have a few topics that have content conditional tags. The problem is that these tags are not listed in the Conditional Build Tags pod or in the Apply Conditional Build Tags menu. How is this possible? Thanks.
Hi,I can't get any Heading 1s to appear in printed Word TOC.Using Books and Topics (with titles as Heading 1 as a test). All other headings appear fine in the Word TOC.RH TOC exampleFunctionality (Book) Function 1 (Topic) - has Heading 1 title, doesnt show in word TOC Function 2 (Topic) - has Heading 2 title, shows in word TOCKnown Issues (Book) Issues 1 (Topic)Sure I can change the TOC field codes to include Heading 1 in the Word doc.Does RH only include Heading 2 and lower in the Word TOC, by default?Anyway to change this or what am I doing wrong? Many Thanks,David
RH11 Local project WebhelpLast week each link in my image map opened a project topic in a popup. Today, the image map doesn't work and double-clicking a link shows that the selected destination has switched from top level folder to Remote URLs (figure 1). Links in the generated map show the obvious script error (figure 2). What happened? I didn't switch settings, it's a solo project, nothing downloaded to my machine over the weekend. Is there a way to lock the settings and hot spot areas, or do we just need to check image maps prior to distributing Webhelp?
Hi folks! Apologies if there might already be a discussion about this, but there are just so many topics to go through that I'll start my own thread for my company.I'm new to RoboHelp and I was given the task to help out a team of colleagues that will use the software for their project. We have RoboHelp 11, and they have published their project to their Intranet site for public viewing a couple of years ago. Since the old RoboHelp support team are already defunct, they have not left any kind of documentation how they set this team up, and now I am starting from the ground up.So my questions are:What do I need other than RoboHelp HTML 11 to publish to their Intranet site again? We set up a VM server for RoboHelp to help house their project (aside from local files saved to their computer). Do we need RoboHelp Server 9 to help with this endeavor or another RoboHelp HTML 11 in this VM server? How do we publish to an Intranet site? Will just pointing to the RoboHelp VM server serve that purpo
This is a weird one, and I'm very frustrated. I thought it was just an Office problem, but my printed documentation in RoboHelp is "infected", so I'm hoping one of you will know how to fix this.About a month ago I noticed that my bullets in Outlook and Word (Office 2015) had turned from the standard rounded/disc bullets to up arrows. I tried deleting my email and normal.dotm files and the bullets were still there. Then I saw them in the printed output/PDF file in RoboHelp. I uninstalled and reinstalled Office, but the arrow bullets are still there, although they are more easily fixed at this point (only one or two will show up in a document). I had someone send me the templates associated with RoboHelp (Word00/Word10/Word11), and I defined the UL tag in my RoboHelp CSS file to have the right bullets, but the arrows still are showing up. In fact, someone sent me an email with the right bullets and they turned into arrows in my inbox (I feel like this is the worst STD ever...)My office's
So far we have generated with RH 5 under XP a .hlp project. Can I use under RH 11 HTML continue this project as well? Do the old Anchor links yet, or we have to adapt the Java source code of our software? Thanks and regards
I am re-writing a previously created RoboHelp project using RoboHelp HTML 11. For many of the pages, I want to start with the original page so I choose the Import HTML File option. That works fine, but they have hardcoded fonts and formatting that I do not want. Is there any way to import the page and strip out the formatting? Sure, I can do all this manually, but I have a lot of pages to import!
My version is 11.0.0.179I have several projects and finally merge them.To link a heading of a topic in a project, say project 1, from some where in a topic of another project, say project 2, I bookmark a heading in project 1 and then in project 2 I inset link to that bookmark. Having done that, two things happen:A) All headings in project 1 are bookmarked automatically and the one I did manually, gets another bookmark. For every link to a bookmark in project 1 form another project, a new bookmark is added to all headings in project 1. It does not happen if link to a bookmark is done from the same project, as it is supposed to be the case.B) I Insert Topic TOC in every topic and set it from heading 2 to 2. When I open project 1 in design view, all heading 2 are shown beneath Topic TOC, but it is not shown in preview of project 1. When I generate output, Topic TOC is shown in project 1.
I've been trying to use RoboHelp 11's new header and footer feature for printed documentation, but haven't had much luck with the output. I created a Master Page for the basis, and added some simple text (doc title in the header, copyright in the footer) and some background shading. However, once I generate the output, the shading and text display incorrectly. See images below for an example of what I'm getting. Did I miss something when I created the Master Page or generated the output? Also, I am using Word 2013, and I've read pretty much everywhere that RH11 and Word 2013 have had issues for a lot of other users, but I couldn't find anything pertaining specifically to this issue. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide,Steven
I recently upgraded our documentation from RoboHelp 2010 to 2015. Some of the topics include scripts to open documents in a new browser window. After the upgrade those scripts no longer work. Here is a copy of one of the upgraded scripts, can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
RoboHelp 2015Hello.Newbie question. Need your advice.Product has a back office version and several mobile client versions. Each product version will have its own help system published on a separate website. Is it better to have one project per one product version or a single project for all product versions? Seems like having "one project per product version" is obviously better (no need to use conditional tags to separate content of one product version from another and to change output settings each time when publishing), but maybe I miss something... Maybe there are more pro's than con's of storing everything in a single project? Thanks in advance.
I'm sorry if this is a noob question but I've looked for a pre-existing answer with no luck. We've been using .CHM help thus far, but having upgraded many versions to RH2015 we are now looking at swapping to an HTML5 layout. I have generated an 'out of the box' Responsive HTML5 output which is very slick indeed. We don't want to show our help in a browser frame though, and as far as I have figured out the way to do this is via the Multiscreen variant? I've done nothing with this other than remove the phone and tablet layouts, other settings are Adobe default, and it runs s-o-o-o slow, it's unusable. Click index, wait five seconds. Try to move the window, wait another 5 seconds. What am I doing wrong?I also interrogated Adobe's help, and maybe I'm a little naïve about HTML5 but I found that rather unhelpful too. So any direct answers to this particular question, and/or where I can find an HTML layouts 101, greatly appreciated.
Up until today, I have never had any problem applying conditional build tags. Suddenly today, when I select a paragraph, right-click, and select Apply Conditional Build tags, RoboHelp crashes. I tried it from Format menu as well with the same result. If no paragraph is selected and I select Format > Apply Conditional Build Tags, the list is empty. If I select View > Pods > Conditional Build Tags, all my tags are there. I have tried this in several different help projects, all with the same result, so it's not project specific. This is a big problem that needs to be solved asap. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,Natasha
I'm working on a moderately sized project (about 15 topics so far, 26 MB total). I've imported HTML files from Google Docs and I'm outputting as PDF. The first time I crashed was a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure what the problem was, but suddenly the screen was frozen, I'd get error dings when I tried to save or click on anything, yet the task manager said the software was running (not unresponsive). I chalked it up to having too many programs open at the same time or too many topics opened, and I learned to not do that when working on RoboHelp. I wondered if the problem was RAM, since the task manager said I had only a little free memory, but my boss got new RAM instead of more RAM.Yesterday I had the same problem, only I was just running a browser, Acrobat Pro, Outlook and Lync, and only had a few topics open in the project. I was copy and pasting tags in the HTML window both times I crashed (I crashed once an hour in the 2 hours I was working on RoboHelp).Details about my situati
We are software a software provider that is using the map ID's (for F1 help functionality) in RoboHelp 2015.I am trying to figure out what is going to be the best Layout to use , to avoid having each user check the security option "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer."Our software is a client/server distribution model, and the techs feel they are leaving the machines Vulnerable by checking this option.Does anyone know the best output to solve this ? Or a Way to get around it?Thank you,
Using RH10 to generate Webhelp output. This has worked fine for users running firefox, chrome and IE10 in an intranet environment. (RH10 has been updated with the IE10 fixes and the chrome fix - whproxy.js file). However, With the release of IE11 users have immediately reported that there are problems with the RH10 Webhelp output. I cannot provide specifics as yet but thought it worth posting so that other users have a "heads up" on potential problems caused by IE11, and hopefully RH techies can start to pinpoint problems and look at providing potential fixes. Will try to identify IE11 problems more specifically and provide further posts regarding issues.OK - Viewing WebHelp output in IE11 - Table of Contents has dissappeared, the icon is displayed on the tool bar but no TOC entries in the list; index - displays the keyword box but does nothing and no index list is displayed; search - search box will display and text can be entered but search does not appear to work. For users who choose
