Hi,I got a new laptop with Windows 11, and now I have to install everything anew. The ESTK seems to be a problem.@Klaus Göbel had said that we can download the ExtendScript Toolkit here:https://github.com/Adobe-CEP/CEP-Resources/tree/master/ExtendScript-Toolkit When I run AdobeExtendScriptToolkit_4_LS22.exe, it unpacks itself into a folder with a setup file. OK.When I run this, I get an error message (in German):The following problems aroseThe installer had noticed that possibly a computer restart is needed.Exit the installer, restart the computer and retry the installation. After I clicked Ignore, the installer did something, but it did not install the ExtendScript Toolkit. It should be here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CC\Does anyone know, how I could install the ESTK on Windows 11?Thank you very much for your help!
Hi,I have a new laptop with Windows 11 and want to install also FrameScript. The first part works: Downloaded FrameScript from here: https://framescr.com/wb/downloads.htmlThen installed it as Administrator. And then I got a list with all FrameMaker installations (in my case only FM 18).(This is just RegEsl7A.exe. I ran it also separately as Administrator.)However, I cannot select FrameMaker 18.The other buttons (Select All, Register Selected Installations) cannot be clicked. What could I do?On my old laptop with FrameMaker 18 on Windows 10 this had worked.Best regards, Winfried
Hello, I wonder if you can help? I am using Adobe FrameMaker 2022 to create my Technical reports which uses a lot of greek symbols and then creating a pdf using Adobe Acrobat (64 bit). I use to add WPMathA in previous reports, but I see that this font is no longer to be used and I have been replaced WPMath A with Symbol font. The issue I am currently having in the Technical reports is, once I generated the FM file into a pdf and view in the Safari browser, the majority of the greek characters that I use from the Equation palette in FrameMaker is not displaying correctly. In Chrome and Edge, the greek characters display fine.Is there a way to get the greek characters to display correctly using the Mac browser Safari please. Thank you.
I’m pleased to announce that all West Street plugins are now free. Most are focused on structured FrameMaker; however, the WS Utilities plugin is applicable to all FrameMaker users and I encourage you to try it out. I use it daily and would not want to live without it. Enjoy! http://weststreetconsulting.com/
A user is running into an issue with Framemaker 11. Dialog boxes used during the print-to-pdf process (usually alerts about missing fonts, difficulty opening documents, etc.) will be placed in random z-indexed locations on the desktop meaning they will appear behind a variety of other open windowsPopups can even be hidden behind floating chapter windows within framemaker, which renders the book publishing process difficult because each print-to-pdf popup requires you to hunt for and accept the terms of the popup in order to continue with the export process. To make matters worse, using the windows tactic to hover over framemaker in the task bar does not seem to show popups as dependents of the program. I usually only see a list of free floating windows for each book chapterAre there any resources or plugins I can explore for fixing this? I have adobe extendscript experience with InDesign CC and I’m considering exploring this problem through that lens as a last resort. I just wanted to
When I restart Windows or, sometimes, just FrameMaker, my scripts have disappeared from the catalog. It seems that only scripts that reside in startup folder never disappears, but “Favorite Scripts” do. I can see that this question was raised some 12 years ago. Is this really the same - 12 year old - error?
Hello FrameMaker friends:I have zero practical experience with version 18.0.0.206 but one of my students is using it. After adding files to the book window, FrameMaker pulls in most of the correct content to the generated files but not all. It appears to be random. When we try to troubleshoot a file that we just added by hyperlinking on the partially-generated content, Fm states it can’t find the file and make sure the file exists. We pulled the chapters out and re-added them and am still getting the same message when hyperlinking in. Thoughts? [FWIW: This is not a <$paranum> building block issue.] I’m just back from vacation so maybe it’s me, but I am totally baffled. Is there something off with v18? Or with me?
Can a Refence Page be imported or does a cut and paste to a new baseline Reference Page required? Thank you so much for your assistance. Tony
Hello,I would like to use a regular expression that could change the “capital letters” to “capital letter + initial” (see blue arrow). What do you advise me to use as a regular expression in that case ?
Hello,I have tried this :, (\b.+\b)(\n|$) ($1), II have a little problem when there is a blank line after : Before the change : After the change : In this example, after “accordéon” there is a blank line, and the result after change is :(accordéon), so there is a comma and the blank line is removed. But I would like something like :(accordéon) without the comma and by keeping the blank line after In that case, what regular expression I can use ?
Can any describe a workflow where the “Undo History” palette makes sense? This is an example where I find the palette confusing…I create a new document - Undo History does nothing I change the document from single to double page - Undo History does nothing I go to master pages - Undo History records my move to master pages I modify a text box - Undo History records my modfication I add a new master page - Undo History resets and deletes all previous history How does this make sense?..
When I create an XLIFF export, the exported ZIP file is empty. This happens only with one of our Books. We have successfully exported four Books, but the last export is empty. We always use this settings.
Hi all,I’m looking for some insight into how others are managing translations in Adobe FrameMaker, particularly when working with multiple languages and text insets. In our current setup, we maintain a large number of language-specific text insets across different manuals. While this works, it introduces quite a bit of complexity when it comes to updating content, relinking insets, and handling DTP after translations are returned. It can also make long-term consistency across languages harder to manage.I guess I'm questioning if this is the correct approach, as opposed to maintaining a single English master version of manuals and insets, and then generating all translations from that source. From a workflow and file management perspective, a single-source approach seems like it could simplify maintenance and reduce manual effort.Has anyone here moved from a multi-language inset setup to an English master workflow? If so, what were the pros and cons, and did it improve efficiency in prac
Hello,My regular expression is :, (\b.+\b)\n ($1), In this document all is working well except for the last line (see blue arrow) where it is not able to find the last text, ie : , tubaWhy ?
I need to insert a single sheet from an Excel book. I need the sheet to flow across pages so copy and paste doesn’t work and importing file or inserting a text insert brings in all sheets in the Excel book. How can I insert a single sheet from the book?
Hello - I’m having trouble with the bookmarks and cross-references in a PDF export from Framemaker. Once I create the PDF, none of the bookmarks and cross-references work. I’ve tried Publish to PDF and Save to PDF with no luck either way. I’ve also exported just one file to see if the links would work if I created one PDF at a time but that doesn’t work either. My process: Update book, Save all files in book, save book, Publish to PDF or Save to PDF.I’ve included images of the following: PDF output settings, Settings.sts, list of book files.Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hello,I am using FrameMaker 16 over a network and regularly get issues, I think due to that situation. When the “An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data ...” occurs a file is written to disk with a random extension time-stamped at the time when I attempted to save. This file is noticeably smaller than the .fm file I am working with, however renaming the extension does open a file bearing some resemblance to the original, and with [at least some] of the images. Is it safe to use this file? The smaller size is concerning, however I would like to think it is useful in some way. I have just performed a back-to-back, page-by-page test and it seems there is no definitive answer to just use the back-up. I was able to see the areas where I had been working (the work I lost was related to reconnecting referenced graphics from a donor file) and simply copied the known good elements into the other file. Many
HiIs there a way (e.g. using JavaScript) to convert a FrameMaker book (*.book) containing all references into a Word file?Best regards Stefan
When importing xml into Structured FrameMaker 22, a soft return is embedded before the paragraph tag, pushing heading to the next line. It should look like this: In the xml xml:space="preserve" has been added because a tag is included in the xml:<mainhead xml:space="preserve">Average annual total returns (%) <emphasis role="submainhead">(See important legal information)</emphasis></mainhead>If I remove xml:space="preserve" , it eliminates the soft return but it does not recognize the tag, so the tag is not applied.Microsoft CoPilot created a script to remove these soft returns, but it is not working when I run it.Any help resolving this will be appreciated. Here is the script: #target framemakerfunction removeSoftReturnsInMainhead() { var doc = app.ActiveDoc; if (!doc.ObjectValid()) { alert("No active document."); return; } var pgf = doc.FirstPgfInDoc; var count = 0; while (pgf.ObjectValid()) { if (pgf.Element.ObjectValid(
I have noticed something unusual happening after I clear my local cache on my PDM system. All of our FM files are saved on our SolidWorks PDM system, and we are encouraged by our IT department to clear out our caches regularly. After a recent cache cleanout, I opened up all the FM files associated with a book that contains nearly one hundred images, all of which are also saved in the same PDM system. Once opened, every image appeared as a gray box. However, the file path shown on each image’s object properties was still intact and valid. Curiously, when I opened up the image from file explorer and clicked back into FrameMaker, the image would change from the gray box to its proper appearance. While we were discussing this issue, my coworker also cleared out his cache. The same issue happened with him.Is there a quicker way to resolve this issue than opening up each image individually?
I'm trying to align data in table cells. They want the longest numbers to be centered and the rest of the numbers to be right aligned off of those. How can I do this to make sure data are cleanly aligned? Here’s an example of how it looks when center alignment is selected: Here’s an example of the alignment they are asking for: their requested alignment22,400 is centered, and the remaining numbers are right aligned off 22,400 (not right aligned to the table cell itself). Adjustments I’ve made in the Basic tab of the Paragraph Designer haven’t created the desired result. The only thing I’ve figured out is to hit the space bar, but that’s a “solution” I’d have to do manually for hundreds-thousands of cells. How can I align the data so the number with the most digits is centered, and smaller numbers are right aligned to it?I appreciate the community help, thank you!
I asked a similar question a good while ago and it was answered. However, the referenced answer doesn’t work in a current document because the Include Paragraph Tags in Bookmark Text option in FrameMaker resets to the selected state during PDF generation. FrameMaker PDF setup block immediately before PDF generationFrameMaker PDF setup block immediately after PDF generationAny help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm working on a modular users manual in FM, and I need the ability to combine many small files (subsections in the users manual) into one larger file (the users manual) using the book function. I'm having a lot of trouble getting files to splice together, meaning content from the small files is seamlessly inserted in the document rather than at the beginning of a new page. I've been trying to fix this using pagination settings but have not had any luck. Has anyone gotten this to work successfully on FM26?
