I would just simply create a new document with a 5 x 7 canvas, drag the larger photo in, then use transform to resize it to your liking. Cropping will be automatic

Rearranged a few things and got it working again. Problem was getting it to recognize that layer as "default" in the actual swapset. The effected layer was not showing under "layer" at the bottom, when default was clicked. Deleted the trigger (again) and recreated it, moved it to the top of the list and I'm back in business! Thank you

haha you saw that? That was a reuslt of a mis-labeled layer when i first built. ( there was a lot of copy/pasting going on) I renamed the layer, deleted that trigger and re-created one with the proper name. That may have been part of the problem but my default hand is still visible while swapping...

Update: I realized I can deactivate visibility on the individual "paths" so that i can see the sublayers underneath, but the puppets left hand is still broke

Yes, all 3D layers must be specified as such, and they will only work with a camera layer. There is an easy way to create the 3d orbit you seem to be after- Put a null object in the center, Parent the layer you want to orbit to the null, move it away from the null so it is off center, animate the rotation of the null and the object will orbit around accordingly.

So, I needed to go in and do some alignment and fine tuning on the hands in Illustrator ( see screensshot ) In order to see what I was doing i needed to remove the default artwork in "Left Hand 1" temporarily, so Command X'd it, and made my edits to the individual hand swap sublayers. When I pasted the default hand back in, it came in as a group, "Unnamed". now in CH the default hand is always there, not disappearing when the trigger key is pressed. (the triggered position appears behind) First thing I tried was to ungroup "unnamed" so it went back to paths and I arranged them as they are in the still working correctly right hand. So wondering if theres a way to fix this, or a better methodology in making my illustrator edits, as i still need to make those adjustments in the right hand.

Flushing out the cache seems to be working for now. Still making timing adjustments and more animation with the puppet so im keeping with the dynamic link for now. Otherwise i would totally be pre- rendering this layer! Thanks!

As long as your new logo is the same size and resolution as the old you *should* be able to right click -> replace footage in your original AE file...

Are you duplicating these precomps in the timeline or in the project window? If you duplicate it in the timeline you are just duplicating the layer with an instance of the same precomp. Duplicating in the Project window will (should) give you two seperate independent comps...

Layer "Lab" is a precomp with the character ( an imported CH scene) and the background, when the opacity changes, as you can see, you can start to see through the character? There is no opacity change in the pre-comp. Continualy rasterize /collapse transfomations is activated on the problem layer, turning it OFF fixes it. BUT i need it on otherwise the graphics look like garbage. Anyone have any ideas on how I can work around this?

I am dealing with the same issues, and the above tips do help greatly. The draggable elbow can create some wonkiness that needs smoothing, but gets desireable results for extreme situations. Also to note, CH calculates things in real time so scrubbing or playing from particular spots in the timeline, the arm will be bent the wrong way. I feel i have to force certain bends and I have to play from certain points to view it properly. ( to clarify: from beginning to end, the animation works as it should, but starting from the middle, results vary )

Ill give it a shot.... I fixed it n moved on but i will try. It may have to do with motion blur, sometimes ill have the problem of the motion blur getting "stuck" after an object stops moving... Thanks!

The layers are animated arrows using trace path and null- Worked around by cutting the opacity once this comp is nested into my main, but within the comp, opacity on any of the layers has no effect. also note the endpoints... What the heck?

You might be better off designing in photoshop- these LED boards ( although i don't know much about them) have a set resolution that you can set a similar pixel size and get a better representation of what you looking at...

A few tricks- One, use seperate layers or groups for the different appendages. Also, seperate your fills from your lines, I.E. copy the character shape from above, and set it to fill with no stroke, then paste in place and set this shape to strokes with no fills ( or draw new lines with no fill) this way, you can end your lines before the shoulders without losing the fill. Are you planning on animating these characters? Then the setup gets a bit more complicated. Ive been doing this for years and still learning new things! Hope this helps!

The Spherize filter should do the trick. Make a round selection the same size as your sphere and apply it to the cross layer
