The appropriate action is to maintain projects in the version they were created in.  There is no safe way to open an old project in the newer version.   Adobe does not try to make an import function like that work.   That said, if the project is simple, with little use of transitions, titles or effects, it may open without issue in newer versions.     One workaround used by some is to export an intermediate file from older versions and use that as a source clip in the newer version.      Why do you want to upgrade?  What is it that you need from the newer version? ... My experience is exactly what Steve explains.  For Premiere Elements, spending on a better CPU and an SSD will be the best way to improve performance.  Be careful of i5 CPUs if you intend to do more than simple editing of lower quality clips.   If you plan on editing 4K and using effects, an i5 will probably be disappointing. So if Adobe's Premiere Elements article for "Supported file formats" is not accurate/true, what is a reliable reference for what types of clips are supported vs. not supported?     You are getting good advice.  What might be left out is that the H.265/HEVC codec is special because it makes smaller files of good quality.   To do that requires a lot of "compression" that an editing computer must 'decode' in real time for the preview window.  That is very hard, intensive processing!   In your post where you updated your driver, you said it was Intel intel graphics.   On the scale of graphics processors, that is the low end.   I have a 'gamer' laptop with an NVIDIA graphics card and SSD along with an Intel i7.  The combination makes it work OK for H.265 and variable frame rate clips just like Adobe says!   ... Thank you for the good advice Steve.I will switch to H.264 and shoot in HD and 4K for zooms, pans, etc,....I watch the edited video's always on a 55 inch TV. Therefore I thought thatshooting in 2,7K would give better image quality, even when I export thefinal video from Adobe in HD (what I usually do to facilitate sharing) . I've been shooting with a DJI Pocket 3 for a few months.  Before that it was a Pocket 2.  They have always been set to 4K, 30fps and H.264.  I have had no issues with editing in Premiere Elements, Premiere Pro or a couple others video editing programs.    H.265 was, and maybe still is, a good idea for making smaller sized files.  The problem is that the licensing agreements have blocked progress.  We continue with H.264 and larger video files.     Is there a reason for 2.7K?  For most projects, HD fills the screen with pixels.  If you are going to do post processing pans, zooms or keyframes, the extra pixels of 4K will be more useful.     Switch your camera setting to H.264 and skip 2.7K.   Your editing work will improve.  ...
