I can't put multiple terabytes of footage on an internal drive. Why not? 7200 RPM, 8TB, 16TB, 14TB, 12TB, 10TB, Desktop Internal Hard Drives, Hard Drives, Components - Newegg.com if I were to move this project there, I would still have to reconnect the media every time I booted up Premiere. No, you wouldn't. That's part of the point of using internal, local drives.

"Prores, Dnx, and Cineform are not good enough" I question that. I recommend using the default Cineform presets. Yes, they're larger. But that's what makes them edit so well, and the quality is sufficient that the proxies can be used for grading.

Cinemascope projects will have the bars "burned in" when authored to any disk format. No way to avoid that. The only way to get just the image is a computer file.

how come I can see such a vast difference between export and program window videos on the same monitor? Unhandled variables, most likely. Like GPU driver, software settings, OS, etc. The point of using a dedicated I/O device to a calibrated display is to remove those variables, so that you see the image as it is, rather than altered by something.

Open the original audio file in Audition and clean it up. Save As to a new file with a new name. In PP, perform a Replace on the audio clip in the bin to the newly saved file from Audition.

What am I doing wrong? Viewing on a computer monitor through software. You can't do that for proper color work. "Variants of this question have been covered to death on this and every other color grading forum. The answer is always the same. The only way to get a [proper] image you can trust is to run SDI [or HDMI] out to an accurately calibrated reference monitor. Premiere Pro uses nested sequences for multicam work. You can create the proxies on the original media and they'll "transfer" to the multicam. Stick to the Cineform presets. Work offline using proxy media |

my Home Directory is on a network drive (I have no choice over the matter). When I launch Premiere with my computer detached from the network, You should look to Adobe Anywhere or Team Projects (both of which are paid services) if you wish to use a networked environment.

Q: Is that the right way to get started? I recommend using only Cineform proxies. Never choose H.264 for proxies, as the H.264 codec is the very reason you need proxies to begin with. On the bars issue, you've simply chosen the incorrect preset. Choose the one whose aspect matches your media.

Peak files are the waveforms you see displayed in the GUI. They're generated upon import for every file that has audio. Shorter files go by so quick you may simply not notice. Peak files are part of the Cache. I do recommend storing Cache and Scratch on a dedicated drive, more for organizational purposes really. (It's sometimes a good idea, or even necessary, to delete the Cache files to get PP working properly again.) Don't worry about writing too much to the SSD's. Chances are overwhelmingly in favor of you replacing them for other reasons long before they reach their write capacity.
