hi. so I wanna randomize time remap in after effects on a video layer of 25 seconds. so I used the expression "random(0,25)". it works but it goes too fast, it jumps on every single frame. So i want it to go slower, so i tried the expression "posterizeTime(1)". Now it jumps every one second, that's what I want. the problem is it gives me freezed frames / static images every 1 second. and what I want is for the video to continue playing including the jumps. can anyone tell me how to achieve that keeping it simple... maybe adding somthing else to the expression I dont know? thanks

I want to design animation in after-effects that can be edited in PowerPoint for use in live production, as one (depending on the system in use) can't be editing and rendering during live production, is there any way around this🙏..I need a solution as soon as possible, please 

HelloI updated to Sonoma 14.5 last month and now have sat down to start a new animation job realise AE crashes every time I do a simple task such as drag a file into the timeline. I have logged all these crashes with Adobe with my email address and heard nothing back as of yet. I have followed the previous trouble shooting solutions offered on other threads which is to start up in safe mode, reset the preferences back and disable and plug ins (I don't have any). Yet it still crashes over simple things and the software has become unusable at a time I really need to be working. I was on AE 2024 and updated to the latest AE v 17.5.1 and same thing happens. I have never had a problem like this with AE ever and it's come at a really bad time. Please can someone from Adobe offer some solutions? My Mac spec is: Macbook Pro, Chip M1 Max, RAM 32GB.Thank you

Hey! I'm looking to create this animation effect for some video transitions in a project. Unable to find an explanation on a how-to. Is there a simple way to 'link' a video layer with dimensions of a mask/matte so they move togther (like in the example), or is the only way to acheive the video changing it's dimensions within the desired 'box outline' (as in the video changes it's centre point to fill the area proportionally) is to alter it manually and match the mask or matte keyframes with the video position keyframes. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Evening, folks! I'm a little frustrated right now. I bought Red Giant's »VFX Suite« and only installed the awesome Supercomp plugin, but after the installation After Effects performance already went south immediately, without even applying the newly installed plugin. Even in low-res rendered RAM previews only 7(!) fps play back. After uninstalling Supercomp, everything was normal again, and after a reinstall, it became sluggish again. Somewhere AE and RG fight it out, but where? I have a 2021 M1 Mac Book Pro running Sonoma 14.0 as the OS. I've never experienced this issue before I updated my OS. I have uninstalled After Effects and Media Encoder and reinstalled older versions because I thought it might be specifically a CC issue. When I try to render my After Effects comp out of encoder I get the prompt ' "Adobe After Effects 2023" would like to access data from other apps. Keeping app data seperate makes it easier to manage your privacy and security. '  Regardless of whether I select 'Allow' or 'Don't Allow' the prompt continues to pop up over and over again non stop.  Encoder will not render.

I'm just going to say it, the workflow sucks as it is.I'm using 3DS Max and AE for high end mo-graph work. There are no import rules to file types to interpret imported assests.  3DS Max has this.  Import a JPG and it's ACES/SRGB automatically by a rule I set.  Don't have to set every gosh darn asset in huge projects.  EXR's are linear and so on. It's confusing as heck (Basically I have no idea) if I should uses ACES 1.2 or 1.3CG.  I am importing 3D EXR files from a CG program.  So CG would make common sense, but it's not the default.  Do I care to know every in and out of this?  Heck no. The output color spaces change between versionsn of ACES.  No ACES/sRGB on 1.3?  Do I know which sRGB I should pick?  No not really.  Why are the ones I need not at the top of the list?And the  big kicker, Make a white solid #FFFF in an ACES project and you get a light grey solid.  That's a deal breaker.  How to

Hello After Effects community! I'm looking for some insight from the scripting experts here that I couldn't find with my usual searching. I'm currently working on a script that at its core will create several shape layers arranged in a specific way to generate templates, though the exact details don't matter for this question. One part of my script is currently adding two different shape groups to a single shape layer. When a script generates new shape groups it'll place them BELOW the previously generated shape group. I want to know if there's a way for the script to then re-order those shape groups after generating them so the group created second is on top of the group created first? I've tried things like the .moveToBeginning() method that works for layers, but no dice using that on a shape group (well, either that or I did something wrong which isn't out of the question). Here's a demo code snippit that's been re-formatted to run on its own to show what I'

I have the M1 Macbook pro and I have installed the After Effects beta version, and has been using stock effects up until tonight when I decided to install some free plugins. After installing them, I attempted to load AE and it gave me the error message "Last log message was: <29403> <SonyRawDecoder> <5> Found compatible GPU device for SonyRaw decode support."   I've tried deleting all plugins & scripts I've downloaded, and even uninstalled and reinstalled AE. Still getting the same message. Please help as I've got multiple projects I need to finish ASAP and this is nothing other than horribly inconveinient.

Anyone have a solution for this cutoff? It's really ugly 😞 

My muscle memory is reminding me that double clicking lines of type in the Timeline used to make the type in the comp viewer go into editable mode.  Now, double clicking does nothing. So where does one go now to restore the previous behavior? Thanks, Marc ChepAfter Effects v24.6.2

(AE 2021) trying to content aware fill a subject out of this footage but all it does id generate a fill layer that completely empty, practically useless. Ive watch many tutorials and I follow their instructions exactly yet i get the same error. I've also tried an older version of AE and it still doesn't work. I've only seen one other person online with this issue and that question is unanswered. I'd appreciate if I could get some help. Heres some before and after images, as you can see the fill layer is there but its a png for some reason and it does absolutely nothing 

Hello,  I'm trying to export an animated GIF from AE but I'm getting this strange orange pixel effect shown below in the top left of the still. It seems whenever I use a feathered mask or an opacicty drop, this happens.   I also tried to export a mov file from AE to import into Photoshop to create the GIF from there, but PS said there was not enough memory.Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks, 

I have a text animation I have done that uses the Character Offset.  Currently it randomizes the text using all of the letters in the alphabet. I have Character Range set to Perserve Case and Digits.  What I want is it to use the same letters I have in my source text so I don't get random letters.  Lets say it says "WELCOME HOME"  It would randomize the text using only the letters that exist in this text, not other letters like V or Z.  I am a bit rough on my scripting as I have not done this in years with After Effects and every thing I have tried, including other examples I found, doesn't seem to work.  Can anyone give me insight as to an expression that can do this?  Thanks a lot!

okay so, i have an AI file with about 400-500 red dots, the dots are already in the shape of a heart, however i need them to start off as just random dots and then they slowly starting forming into the heart, but not a solid heart, it still has to look like dots made a heart.instead of doing this by hand, what can i do? see attached for the storyboard.instead of doing this by hand, what can i do?

Need import c4d null animation to Ae as bezier, for example with 2 bezier keys at start and in the end instead of a bunch of baked keyframes 

I’ve been having an issue with After Effects where my project files keep crashing whenever I try to open them, but this only happens if I have the Boris Continuum plugin installed. I’m currently using Boris Continuum 2024.5 with After Effects 2019. As soon as I try to load a project that uses the plugin, After Effects crashes instantly.I’ve already tried reinstalling both After Effects and Boris Continuum, but no luck so far. Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

 I'm working on an animation. However, the keyframes stop moving in the main comp at exactly 2 minutes, while in the pre-comp they continue to play. The main comp and all pre comps are over 2 minutes long. How is this possible? How can i solve this? 

Hello everyone,I have a question to a problem I am facing:I created an animation and I need to render it to the exact format size 42240 x 96 px.It's for a sports stadium.However AE doesn't allow any composition above 30000 x 30000 px.  Do you know of any way to achieve this format size, maybe in combination with Media Encoder, etc?

After effects is eating away at my application memory. For some reason when ever I try using the content aware fill effect, it will analyse up to 37% every single time then show up with "Your system has run out of application memory" as seen in the attached photo. Before pressing generate, I had 120gb storage free on my mac and by the time it hits 37% and forces me to quit it has eaten up 45gb of starage and says that after effects is using over 100gb even though it is a very simple 10 second composition with nothing else done to it apart from this effect which won't work. Im running a fairly new M3 chip with 18gb of ram. If anyone could suggest any potential fixes asap that would be greatly appreciated,Cheers.

I am operating off a Macbook Pro M2 Max 96GB, 2TB that is ridiculously slow in After Effects. The RAM will be totally maxed out after a few minutes when performing even the simplest of tasks with just a few layers. This has been an incredibly frustrating thing to deal with and I am in need of some real answers from Adobe. I make a living from these programs and there should be no reason that with this powerful of a machine AE cant handle simple functions. I am primarily a 2D and do not use any arrays of plugins, or 3D features.  I have been working in After Effects for nearly 10 years now on machines that were well under these current specs and I have never once had trouble like this. This is a real issue and it seems that I'm not the only one either. Attached are screenshots showing the AE RAM usage.  Any support will be very much appreciated.  

Hiya,New to after effects. I think I have achieved this before potentially through creating a custom keyboard shortcut but have forgotten how. Ultimately I would like to create/know a shortcut that moves the Current time Indicator to where my cursor is positioned on the timeline.
