Sometimes I want to lable a clip in my project and want to see that same label also in the timeline. In Premiere we have a switch for that ("show name and lable of the source clip") which switches between timeline and source label:(sorry, at the moment I just have German UI) In After Effects, we are able to switch between layer and source name by clicking on the column header: but there is no way to do the same for the label. This would be a nice addition for the labeling in After Effects.
Similar to the idea of how InDesign works (where you can nest InDesign files in other InDesign files) and designs have rippling impact, I'd love to be able to import an AEP into a current file. Not only import it, but selectively choose composition I'm interested in. That comp would act simply like a layer in my timeline. Bonus points, any Essential Properties created would be surfaced. Like with Photoshop or Illustrator files, any changes made in the source (once saved) would be refreshed and pulled back into my existing composition.Extra bonus points if this is something that could be somewhat without limit. Coming from the world of UI / UX motion, this would solve a massive need for standard components. We could build out individual elements and bits of motion that are effectively classes of elements, that we'd continue to plug into additional projects. So a key UI element could have easily 4 or 5 different "AEP layers" in it. Treat it like a layer. It has
Using Essential Properties is amazing, but sometimes it gets confusing to see where all of the controls pipe. Feature request for a high-level view of being able to see Comps, control names, and where they're all connected to would be much appreciated. Often times, I come back to projects a few weeks or months after the fact and simply can't remember how I made something work. This would be a great visual to at least see what is driving everything and trace it back to the source. Additionally, everyone keeps asking about nodes in AE.. but this feels like a way where you could visually and somewhat easily plug controls upstream into various comps depending on needs of the project or logical choke-points for the controls.Right now, while the Essential Properties Panel is great, its also slow to navigate, find something, reveal where it is in the timeline, disconnect it / delete the control.
It would be helpful to be able to properly tab through the contents of the Essential Properties panel. Currently, if I click on the first property's name and then press Tab, it'll take me to that property's value. Pressing Tab a second time takes me to Property 2's value, rather than Property 2's label. If I then Shift-Tab, I can jump backwards to Property 2's label. However, if I continue to Shift-Tab, to work backwards, it doesn't jump back up to Property 1's label or value, but rather to its slider (or other control). Pressing Shift-Tab again then takes me to the Name field of the EP panel. It would make changing the names and values of EPs much quicker and easier if Tab/Shift-Tab just cycled through each property and attribute of the EP panel in turn, including the panel's dropdowns and buttons.
can we have it?that the parent whip can connect to the objects on the preview panel so we don't have to navigate tons of layers to parent our wanted layer
One of the best features about the EGP is that you can put controls at various levels of a nested composition. While designing, I might want something immediately accessible, but when I start to animate, I might need more controls and some of the same further up. Users already have this functionality but unfortunately, its very laborious. A simple way to say "this control" should be "surfaced to the top" would mean I can always see that particular control no matter how many times I precompose something or move things around. Its a small quality of life update but one that I would truly welcome. It shouldn't be a global on/off, but rather selective to the particular control in need.
I'd love it if when you add a Null, I could have the layer selected add the null and have the layer selected automatically parent to the null. This could be used on multiple layers selected too. That way, you're not having to parent layers to the same null one by one.
Can we add a tool that select with straight lines in the rotobrush, as it will come very handy when we're roto tables or buldings and anything with sharp edges, it can be the polygonal lasso tool in photoshop
When i select multiple text layers and i need to convert them to shape layers the "convert to shape layers" is greyed outI need to have the ability to change them at once
I often jump between the value and speed graphs, especially when working with a combined X and Y position property and other properties. There's a keyboard shortcut to open the graph editor itself, but what about a keyboard shortcut to quicky toggle between the two? I know you can right click and switch but saving extra few clicks would speed things up over the course of a project. Thanks!
As someone who works with a removable cache disk on many work stations, I hereby suggest replacing the After Effects error(s) dialogs such as:'Disk Cache folder doesn't exist ... so wil be reset to system temporary directory.'with a simple dialog box prompting you to relocate/relink the cache to a directory of your choosing. This would provide several benefits:Allow a user to connect your removable disk and proceed without doing the tedious extra step of going into the system settings and relocating there.Allow you to choose another directory easily if your removable media is unavailable or full.Still allow anyone to hit 'cancel' to default to the system temporary directory as normal with the same amount of clicks.Any other similar error messages that I'm not thinking of right now could implement this relinking dialog for an overall streamlined workflow and improved quality of life.
When lots of layers populate a Layer Control drop menu, it will be good to have icons such as Lock, Visible Shy - will be much quicker to make selections since it's quite often layers that are lumped together have similar names. Also, if I accidentally hit CTRL + SHIFT + W, is there a way to at least get the last comp/timeline I was at, and/or is there a Toll-free Number to call for assistance? If no, then this is not a good shortcut to have cos it's quite disruptive.
Hi all, a bit of a fewbie posting here. Why can't AE go on native MacOS Fullscreen? Photoshop now does, and I think that would be useful for AE too.Any reason for this being not currently possible? I have the latest version of AE as of March 2025.Is this in the future updates pipeline?TY–Giovanni
when released date exactly for adobe research like Project Music GenAI Control and i need request photoshop for audio or add feature on firefly name " rewrite or redub text edit for video or audio"
Hi,I recently created a template for “Essential Graphics” and I was annoyed that the default thumbnail was a black image (since the animation starts in the black image). When I was looking for a way to change the thumbnail, it was only with difficulty that I realized that the translation of the terms was simply unfavorable:- The button to set a “poster frame” / “thumbnail” is labeled "Veröffentlichungszeit festlegen" (=“Set publish time”).That makes no sense:"Solo-unterstützte Eigenschaften" also is a strange wording that shows entities that can be animated. Maybe you could find a better translation in the next edition 😉 Used Version of After Effects: 25.0.1 Best wishes
"The name of the selected Output Module is already in use" This message pops up when two Comps have the same Output Filename.Has nothing to do with the name of the Output Module - a confusing message. Please make the message more descriptive by supplying the involved Comp name - hard to find in a project with hundreds of Comps.
I didn't know that the you still can't animate the focal lenght until I needed it today.
It would be great for AE to begin supporting normals relighting and STMap texture projection. Fortunately, Normality still works, but the STMapping can get a little jagged, and the AE lights it supports are limited. It seems to be well past the time for AE to support these things, especially as actual-3D workflows are increasingly a part of the program.
Hopeful there will be a way to create a font list of fonts with, say ... more than 3 weights. In this say and age, more often than not, users want a typeface with multiple font weights. Being able to create a font list of such typefaces will be a great boost for productivity, design and world peace. In AE, lots of users could use with a lot more options in the area of Decorative/Symbol fonts. Unfortunately, the number and quality of such typefaces at Adobe Font is largely of poor quality and damning in quantity. It's quite shocking actually.
I love after effects. It's great. I've been using it for 25 years or more. But the tracker is a sad relic of an ancient, dead civilisation. In resolve you draw a mask, click track and it's done. Click detect face, click track, and it's done. Someone will invariably say just use mocha but thats not what anyone doing this day to day wants, people want to pick a point or draw a mask and click track and it be done, not to open a seperate clumsy, cumbersome interface to do really basic stuff like this, that is one click in other apps, and actually works reliably every time. AE tracker is excrutiatingly slow and unreliably and requires absurd amounts of manual intervention just to track basic things. Please please pretty please, with sugar on top: give us a modern tracker. It's about time the built in tracker in AE was updated so AE users can experience the warm, magical glow of click track and it's done.(You would think AI would be perfect for this)R.
Like you can across multiple Transform parameters, it would be useful to be able to simultaneously copy and paste multiple Essential Graphics parameters across their values. Currently, this can only be done one parameter at a time.
I don't currently see a way to generate simple 3d primitives such as cone shapes directly inside AE without a plugin... or a way to create new translucent textures and outlines within the app as well. Currently I am experimenting with Spline.Design to achieve what you see in the attached screenshots, but it seems to me that AE should be capable of this kind of simple 3D modeling/texturing. I understand that Substance is being promoted for 3D purposes, but that seems like overkill for my needs and would prefer to stick with AE if possible.
It would be helpful to have an Expression Control effect that was a text input field. Having a place to store and reference text strings other than Text layers' Source Text or Marker comments would be useful when creating expression rigs that use strings to reference parts of layer, group, or effect names.
