FrameMaker

I am using FM2019 on Windows 10.  From FM, I am publishing to Responsive HTML5 in the FILE > PUBLISH menu.  When I try to save / save as / save and close the settings, I get an "Access Denied" message.  I have admin rights on the machine and nothing has changed (so far as I know) between the last time I could edit the file and now that I cannot. Any idea what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Hi! Apologies if this has been asked before. I searched but couldn't find a similar post, or the structured framemaker forum that I used to visit, so.... I'm looking into what it would take to convert existing unstructured fm documentation into DITA files. I know how to use DITA, as my previous company used it for most of their documents, so I'm comfortable creating templates and new documents, working with the EDD, etc., What are the broad steps for converting existing documentation into DITA files, and where should I look for detailed information?  Our files do use styles consistently, and it is clear to me which sections should become task/concept/reference files, but currently many of these are contained within the same .fm file.There is too much content to convert it all manually - I work on 1 product (out of 7 or so) and it has 1000pages of documentation. Thanks!

I have a FrameMaker 2019 document where some TOC links produced in the PDF go to a different page number than they are supposed to. Anyone have ideas?

Hello Folks,Can someone confirm that Framemaker 2015 can be connected to SharePoint 2013 without any issue?In addition, what are the requirements for the SharePoint server side?For example, when I try to connect Framemaker to SharePoint, I get the following error:"Framemaker could not connect to the repository. Verify the connector installation and configuration."It is important to note that it worked well with FM 10 and SharePoint 2010.Thanks for your input in advance!

Good morning: I am helping a colleague with a large manual that was set up in FrameMaker a long time ago (i.e., may have strange formats that were never removed, but difficult to find). My problem: the last chapter of this book does have the page numbers set up correctly (i.e., p one of the chapter is 279), but the figure numbers do not (they start at 1)! It's an auto format,as I tried to update just the number (do it manually out of desperation).   I have been trying to manage the figure numbers using the numbering dialog in the book, or through paragraph format updates, or variables ... I cannot figure that out! Unfortunately, I cannot share the book with you. It's medical device proprietary. Thank you. I have published a PDF from FM book that uses the Lato Light font. The Lato Light font appears heavier than the regular Lato. When I query within Acrobat, it believes the font is LatoLight (all one word). Other google searching has indicated this is becuase my machine does not have the Lato Light font installed or its not set to use local fonts, etc.None of these work,I also have this content in a Word document and it is published to pdf and the same Acrobat reader fine. I am also able to publish FM content to REsponsive HTML5 and the font is fine as well.Only when publishing FrameMaker to PDFdoes it come out looking like bolded Lato.I am about to uninstall all Lato fonts from my machine. Reboot. REinstall fonts and see what happens. But since Word to PDF and frameamker to HTML5 works fine and its only FrameMaker to PDF I assume it's a FrameMaker issue.Using FM 2020.  P.S. in my searching I found a few past posts about "light" fonts being of issue for FrameMaker pub

One of our elements (HowToInstructions) consists of a Table element, followed by a List element. When adding the HowToInstructions element to a structured document, the table anchor is placed on a new line, resulting in a blank line above the table.Below is an example of what it should like (from an unstructured document)Below is what we're getting when we add the element in a structured document:The HowToInstructions element is a child element of the preceding element (whichever that might be).Is there a way to remove/eliminate this extra line?

When I click the edit command of the layout setting file of Responsiv HTML5 from FrameMaker 2020 (16.0.2), the screen stops and becomes unresponsive.Reinstalling or uninstalling the old version does not help.Please let me know if there is a cause or remedy.* I was able to publish only.

Hello all, When I am editing a source file from my colleague, I found that the font type and setting of my Framemaker 2020 is different from the ones my colleague is using.  For example, my colleague's font type of all equations is Times New Roman but when I open my colleague's source file, the font type becomes something different.   May I know how I can ensure that when I open my colleague's source file, the setting of my Framemaker follows my colleague's one?Regards,Ed

Hi, I am using FrameMaker Version 16.0.1.817 and would like to set the border color upon insertion of a figure. In the past, FrameMaker version I had this was not a problem at all, but with the new version it stopped working.Here is what I did: - Insertion of a jpg image (or png image) with File > Import > File > 150 dpi- Choose object properties and changed the border colour to green as shown in the attached screenshot- Click Apply. But unfortunately nothing changes. Does somebody have an idea, why this is not working anymore (or can share a workaround)?Thank you for your help!

From time to time I realise a strange item in the taskbar:The prsence of this item "Insets" does not depend ...wheter I have to many document tabs (resulting in a special drop down list far right in the tab-bar under » )whether the Welcome screen is selected or present in the tab bara book is open and some document are openI run an ExtendScript in ESTKI  have however noticed that it disappears when closing a certain document from the manay (about 12) open document. But when reaopening the book with all of these documents, the strange item is not there... Any clues what this could be? I will also check Task Manger next time I see this strnage 'task'.

Hello all, One of my colleagues reported an issue to me which I have been able to reproduce in both FrameMaker  2019  (Update 8, build 979) and FrameMaker 2020 (Updated 2, build 853). Setup:   FrameMaker window is not maximized, in my case, the FrameMaker window takes up about half of the screen. Open a DITA map and a DITA topic (DITA map is docked to the left side of the FrameMaker window). Click anywhere in the DITA topic window, then click on a topic in the DITA map.Result: The topic you clicked on in the DITA map "jumps" down one or two topics below its initial location. Has anyone else seen this issue?  

Hi!I have a table with quite a long row. I want to allow a page break within the row, i.e. allow the row to continue on the next page, without the whole row to jump to the next page, leaving a big white space on the previous page. How can I achieve this?I have used Straddle in the "Version" column to merge cells.

I have a crazy situation with ExtendScript and FrameMaker 2019. I have a table with a column of data that I am processing. When I query each cell.FirstPgf.Unique property for each cell in the column, they are all the same! If I generate an Alphabetical Paragraph List, all of the links go to the first cell in that column! Not cool at all.

After over twenty years of FrameMaker use with no issues to speak of, I am now experiencing a strange one:I am constructing a new FrameMaker manual and have been copying text from older PageMaker and Word docs, copying that into Notepad to remove formatting, and then copying and pasting that into Frame and formatting as needed. Suddenly this week I find that if I copy anything from within FrameMaker onto the clipboard it stays on the clipboard and will only paste that into FrameMaker. Say I copy text from Notepad, having previously copied and pasted text or objects from within FrameMaker itself. I can paste the newly-copied material back into Notepad with no issues, but if I try to paste it into FrameMaker I can only paste what I previously copied from within the document. It's seriously slowing me down. Sometimes the problem clears up by itself, but most of the time I have to restart FrameMaker to clear the clipboard. Lately, I've been having an intermittent issue with files in FrameMaker books. FrameMaker will just suddenly stop recognizing a file in a book, throwing a message that it is not a FrameMaker file when I try to open the file or update the book. Does anyone know why this might be happenning and how I can stop it?

So...  Here we are agan.  You'll recall that over the past few months, i've been posting here a lot, becoming increasingly frustrated each time. This as I watch my precious documents disintegrate before my eyes time and time again in more ways than I can recount on one, or even two hands. It seemed a fruitless effort to try and solve the issue alone, but I did try nontheless...  After a frustrating evening, I found myself dragging and dropping my output around my network, mostly as an exercise in impatience and self soothing.At some point, I launched the Index file only to realize that it had started working... or, at least most of it had.  I went down a folder level, it broke, I went up a level, some worked, I went up again, it ALL worked... After messing about, I copy and pasted the file names at various levels in the folder structure into Ms Word to get a character count at the levels that worked, and at those that didn't. &nbsp

I have a question on how you can display (add) an author in the PDF Output from a ditamap. I work with a team of 13 “content creators” and the only output our “customers” see is the PDF. It would be very useful to have the Author of the PDF (published from the ditamap) displayed in the Publishing Output so that our customers don’t have to guess which one was responsible for creating the document. I have been able to display the author from a “.dita” file by adding a Running Footer to the Master Page of the DITA Templates (for Topic, Task, etc.) and using “<$elemtextonly[author]>”. Unfortunately, for a ditamap, you don’t have the option of adding a Running Footer to the “ditabase1.3.template.fm” file (which controls the PDF Publishing Output). Also, there doesn’t seem to be any element that you can add to the ditamap that could be used for the author. Is there any way (or a workaround) that will allow me to add an author to the PDF output from a ditamap? I have the following scenario:A BulletList element consists of multiple ListItem elements. A ListItem element can also contain a BulletList element (resulting in a 2nd-level and 3rd level BulletList respectively). We have a Format Change List item that we use for each bullet level.When a BulletList appears as a child of a CellText element, we need to override the paragraph formatting and apply a different paragraph spacing, line height. Hi, I'm having some numbering issues with FrameMaker 10.  Section 1 has Section 1.0 ("Overview"), then subsection 1.1 underneath ("TopicName"). The table of contents, however, for some reason, has:Chapter 1Section 1.1: OverviewSection 1.2: TopicName I leafed through Format -> Document -> Numbering but couldn't find out why FrameMaker is having this discrepancy. Could someone help point me in the right direction?  

Is there a way to reduce the size/height of footnote superscript numbers? Inserting a footnote is causing additional space between text lines.

Hi all. I've inherited a document that seems to have two text columns in the header: one is left aligned and the other is right aligned). However, the previous editor seems to have just used tabs to position the two set of text. The problem is that the right-aligned text doesn't start on the top row. Instead, it starts on the second row (of the right aligned column) which causes the and the last part of it to be missing in the unseen third row (see attached). Note that I can not change the size of the header. This is probably a simple problem to fix but I can't figure it out. Thx for any help. Cheers -- John

In May I posted the following concerning bug 9622: I entered a bug for Framemaker 2020 back in January in Adobe's tracker tool (bug  9622). It had to do with the following conditional tags being added to the product by default:FM_PDF_Comments_HighlightFM_PDF_Comments_Underline5 others also requested that the bug be fixed also. However, it is now May and it is still Open, not fixed. I have been waiting for this fix so i can upgrade Framemaker where i work to Framemaker 2020. We use conditional text heavily here and won't go to FM 2020 until this bug is fixed. How do we get Adobe to fix this bug?  Does anyone have any ideas? Since that time I have been monitoring the bug. The status went from "Open" to "To Track" to "In Development" back to "To Track" back to "Open". No explanation in my original post as to why it is not being fixed. So I am concerned the bug I found will never get fixed. So I am posting again in the hope this will be fixed or at least I will get an e
