FrameMaker

Is this specific to some versions of FM - Upgrade Adobe FrameMaker? Can you upgrade from any version of FM to the 2019 version? We have licenses for FM8 and we are looking to upgrade to a more recent version. Also, will FM8 documents be compatible with the new FM versions? Thank you!

i am new to the hotspot feature, i looked discarded this as a usefull tool when i dindt know when i was doing when devloping service manuals. My questions for single document hotspoting are.Can put a hotspot on a master page that links back to table of contents for instance can i use the hotspot feature for connecting content within 1 document if the document is compiled using mostly disconnected pages?Thanks 

Hi all(first time poster) On a FM document, i need Heading 1 autonumber start at 0.Created two paragraph style (assuing that is the best approach to do it) H1_Heading1 with autonumber H:<$chapnum>.<n+>  H1_Heading1_Begin with autonumber H:<$chapnum>.<n=0>  but when try to define the header to show on each page the current "Heading 1" with Running H/F (<$paranum[H1_Heading1]>) it only starts, has expected, on the Chapnum.1  there is any (simple) way to have the header working for the 0 also?  many thanks  

Hey, I'm really new to framemaker and hope somebody here can help me. I changed the prefixes from result and  note in my edd and saved the file. Then I imported the edd in my ChapterOutputTemplate by clicking data->import->element definitions (it also says import was successful). After I saved the template, I went back to my bookmap and tried to publish as pdf. I chose under settings the Dita Option: Save as a bookbecause I also need a TOC.Then I imported my ChapterOutputTemplate under Dita-Template, saved my settings and published my pdf. The published document showes the pharagraph changes (like font, size, color, etc.), which I made in the template but the changes from the edd are not shown. Prefixes are still "Result" and "Note". I tried a few different things but  nothing is working. I really hope somebody here can help me.Thanks in advance.

Dear All, I started using Framemaker on a Sun workstation in 1989, and used it for many years before taking a break.  I started using Emacs way back then, and it was great to have the emacs key bindings in Framemaker.  I recently purchased Frame 2019, and as far as I can tell those key bindings are no longer present.  Is there a way to invoke them in Framemaker 2019?   Some of the bindings I'm looking for are: ctrl-k   delete from cursor to end of linectrl-e   move cursor to end of linectrl-a   move cursor to start of linectrl-d   delete characterctrl-n   go to next linectrl-p   go to previous linectrl-s    find/search Any help greatly appreciated -Rob

I recently purchased from Adobe via ebay a brand new factory-sealed licensed copy of FrameMaker 12. I want to download the four update patches (12.0.1., 12.0.2, 12.0.3, 12.0.4; all are needed) from the Adobe Website at https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows. But when I click the download button for each of these patches, nothing happens. The buttons are dead. Do the buttons need fixing? Or, is there a workaround for downloading these four patches (zip files)?

I continue to have difficulties importing PDF comments.FrameMaker 9.0 p237Acrobat 9 Pro ExtendedI export a book to PDF, I make sure that "Save PDF for Review Only".I make some comments in Acrobat 9 Pro (also used Acrobat Reader 9)I try to import the comments back into the FrameMaker file and all textual comments are misplaced.I have some other books that don't import the comments at all and one that even hangs FM when importing comments.  I have not had this work successfully on any documents.  Is this feature complete?

In FM 2015 unstructured (version 13.0.0.33) When I go to save a file as a PDF using the Save as PDF function, the PDF settings window is being cut-off.  I can't scroll on the window nor can I expand it, and I need to change settings that are outside of the visible area.  Anyone know any fix for this?  Here is a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

HiI created a book  last  year with 22 chapters and it works  perfectly.  This week  I tried to edit it and  I found every thing except the  Chapetr numbers are  missing.All reference  pages are  still intact.I  also tried to import refeence  paes  from a  working book but everything is reormatted  except chapter numbers. Can you help? thanksHR 

I am using FM2019. When I go to Publish-Dynamic Content Filter, I have nothing in the Tags and Expressions pane, despite having created tags and expressions. Here were my steps:- i created conditional tags and applied them to the appropriate document areasI created expressions but when i did Publish-Dynamic Content Filter, I am presented with a blank 'Available Tags' box. What am I doing wrong?Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Cheers,Bill  

There are two entries to new documents in FrameMaker 2020. The "Welcome Screen" and "Explore Standard Templates". I sometimes create templates and would like them to be easily accessible through the either the "Welcome Screen" or "Explore Standard Templates" or preferrably both. While I can figure out how to modify the HTML in the Welcome Screen it is quite bothersome to add links to, it and they are not dynamically updated. I am not able figure out how "Explore Standard Templates" work. It looks like its an exe file, but perhaps not? Question: Is there a way to make new directories with my own templates and have them dynamically added to the template selection process?

I would like to use a customized page numbering scheme. Each chapter has an abbreviation that it uses and I would like that to be part of the page number format. Example: Chapter 1 is "United States of America (USA)" I use a variable for the USA abbreviation called "Abbrev" and can use that same variable on the master page so that the page numbering system for that chapter will be USA-1, USA-2, etc. Is it possible to bring in that same numbering system into the TOC? Can the TOC reference page use a user-defined variable?

Hi there, I searched the forum but found only issues with FM7, FM10. Here is the input:Windows 10 x64FrameMaker 2019Bitdefender av installed on internal SSDExternal HDD running DropboxAll files and folders on Dropbox are fully accesible by me without restrictions.All files/projects are saved on external HDD where Dropbox is sync the files with server. I am using this solution for years. It worked just fine with FrameMaker10. It is working PERFECT with any Adobe application (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop). It is working PERFECT with Office365. It simply does not work with FM2019. It is annoying to drag all files of a project to internal SSD, format the project and move it back to Dropbox when is done. Why I cannot save it directly to external HDD without any errors like FM10 did? I am the only one having access to this particular folder. But the error is received everytime I save a MIF files as FM. Or even when I am working on a FM file and try to save. All my

I am still getting this error in framemaker, the only fix is to close the file and reopen and re-save . so far it seems to only be this file but i will know soon when i begin saving other files. Anyone have any other ideas? it happens when saving to C:/ or F:/ Drive

Hello ,W7, FM11.When I update a book, the Book Error Log gives me two errors for each document of an Unresolved Cross-Reference to document.When I click the link, it takes me to the relevant document, but not the actual error.This is true in Body Page, Master Page and Reference Page view.Any suggestions?

So far I have been using ExtendScript but it is time to also get some work done with the FDK. I have installed Visual Studio Community 2019 and tried to build one of the FDK2019 samples, but I am getting a bunch of warnings and errors about incorrect target platform and missing libraries. Is it possible to build code for FM2019 using my version of Visual Studio or do I need an older version? Is there a switch I can use to change the target platform?The FDK Reference unfortunately does not state anything about a development environment. At least some of you have done work in this area. I am not going to do a lot of work on this so I am trying to avoid having to get a costly Developer License with Microsoft.Thanks in advance for pointers to get me started.

Recently my keyboard stopped working in FrameMaker only.  The mouse works fine, and if I put the cursor in a window such as a marker window, the keyboard will work.  If I open a document to edit, the keyboard doesn't work.   I tried rebooting, reloading the program, nothing brings the keyboard back.  It works ok in other programs and in Windows.  The KEYBOARD WORKS OK, except to edit a document in FrameMaker.

In my FM 10 (!!) project, I have two pages within a Frame file that should not be numbered, and the page after those needs to continue page numbering from the page before the two non-numbered pages. Page 28 is fine. Current pages 29 and 30 should not be numbered, and current page 31 should be page 29. Will I have to do that manually in the footer somehow and not use auto pagination? Thanks.Margaret 

Hi,   Most of you will know that you can use the keyboard shortcut F9 to select and apply a paragraph format. You can just start typing the name until your name is selected, and then press ENTER. My heading paragraphs have format names like heading1, heading2, etc. It's not that convenient to type the whole "heading" before you can type the level. Yesterday I noticed that you can also just type h and the number without the eading, even when your heading formats have names like heading4. Very good, much faster! Hi all,  Anyone had an issue where the PDF from a ditamap (using Publish panel) has numbering applied to the PDF bookmarks? If the numbers were incrementing, I could live with it, but these are all showing as 1. as shown in uploaded image. Ideally, the numbers would not display at all. -Matt
