Hello,I am reaching out for assistance regarding links to drawings and tables. I am working on an extensive document (over 1000 pages) concerning a parts list (drawing and parts catalog). The problem essentially consists of three parts: I would like the program to automatically take the user to the corresponding position in the parts list table, which would also be highlighted, upon clicking the drawing in the appropriate place.I would like hovering over a number in the drawing to highlight it.I would like the user to be automatically taken to the corresponding number in the drawing and have it highlighted upon clicking the table. I use Framemaker 2019Is there a way to automate the process due to the number of pages in the document.I kindly request your assistance and a prompt response. Best regards,
I've been working my way through our various deliverables to setup PDF tags so that we can use the PDF comment import feature. I've only done two books so far, but this second book is throwing me for a loop. Maybe someone can tell me what magical spell I must utter or the underlying logic of how it works. I'm setting up the "Tags (Distiller)" part of the PDF Setup for Print options. I set up one file and wanted to import to other files. I've done this once before with no issue. However, on my second book, it imports partially correctly. Or a tag that is listed in the setup file is not on the included list in the imported file. For example, the included paragraph tags will include tags that are not in the included list in the first setup file. In some cases, a particular paragraph tag might be level 8 in the setup file, but level 39 in the imported file. Anyone know how the Tags (Distiller) actually works? Or how to solve this problem without manually adjustin
Hi y'all! I'm new to using FM and have inherited a particular documentation template for my job. One change we want to make it to add a autonumber counter in a BugFix element prefix for Fixed/Current Issues in release notes, but no matter what I try, I can't seem to get the autonumbering to work. For context, here's a sample of what the Fixed Issues looks like in vivo: Basically, what I want to do is add an autonumber counter in front of the "Issue" prefix. For this element, the "Issue" prefix value is followed by an attribute value where the particular bug/issue number can be entered via a value text box in the ZOI attribute. The document is structured, and this is what the structure looks like (the "ID" is a random jumble I typed in to see what it would change. It didn't do anything): Here's what the plain EDD Prefix rules for the IssueDescription2 element looks like: I have played with the EDD and tried adding a <n+>, <n=1>, <n>, and other
I have inherited a FM project that uses DITA 1.3 and FM2020. It has been working with FM2020 for a few years, and I am now trying to upgrade to FM2022. The first problem I have encountered is that in FM2020 all <draft-comments> were hidden in the published PDF, whereas they are now included/shown in a PDF published using FM2022. I am trying to solve this problem and realized that I have no idea how/why the <draft-comments> are hidden in a PDF published using FM2020. The only clue I have is the following comment from the previous FM-admin:“The Audience attribute is also contained in the DITA file, and is nominally used to hide draft-comments.” Details:I am publishing my PDFs using a .STS file (i.e. as-shipped with FM)I have a customized structapps.fm which points to \templates folder which contains our custom templatesFor testing, I have created from scratch a very simple .DITAMAP with 3 .DITA files: one concept, one reference and one task. Each of these .DITA files has
I want to find and replace strings in Framemaker's Extendscript (jsx).- Searches for a specific string with a regular expression and replaces the string.- Find specific text and apply a paragraph style to the paragraphs that contain the text.Framemaker's Extendscript has so little information that it is completely unknown. Please tell me who is kind.
I am new to scripting. First time attempt with ExtendScript on FrameMaker version 15.0.8.979. The ExtendScript Toolkit 4.0 opens, but when open a script and runs it, it shows the error message "(#57) Engine 'fmEngine' does not exists!"How to fix it and successfully use the ExtendScript Toolkit ?Your experienced guidance will help a lot and appreciated.
Hello, We work in a structured .fm document/book. We want to have clickable words in a table, so that each jumps to section of the document when clicked. We couldn't do it with Xref because the clickable text must be something different than the target section title. So we did it with Hypertext elements: - In the table, we inserted a Hypertext container with an embedded HypertextMarker. See below how those are defined in our EDD. Within the Hypertext container we added the text to be displayed, along with the HypertextMarker element. The HypertextMarker command is for example "gotolink VERSION", with "VERSION" the name of the target marker. See structure below:Table TableMain TTitle THeading (...) TBody CellBody Hypertext HypertextMarker ...... gotolink VERSION Para ..... VERSION - In the target section, the target HypertextMarker is defined as "newlink VERSION", with "VERSION"
The structured developers guide describes <$elemtextonly> like this:"The text of the source element (up to the first paragraph break), excluding its autonumber and any prefix and suffix specified in the element definition." I have an element, Figure-title, with a built-in suffix. I also have a Cross-reference style that uses the <$paranum> and <$elemtextonly> building blocks. But when I create a cross-reference that points to my Figure-title element, the suffix is still included. So I create a text-level element called Suffix. I move the suffix to this element. I add Suffix inside my Figure-title. Suffix is still included in my cross reference. So I create another text-level element, FI-title. Now I have two text level elements: one to contain the main figure title, and one to contain the suffix. I place both inside the Figure-title. Since I need to reference the Autonumber as well, I create two adjacent cross references: [the autonumber of Figure-
I have a client using FrameMaker 2022. When he shows the Structure View, no text snippets show next to elements. I can't find a switch to turn this on.
Running Frame 17.0.1.305 (Frame 2022)I am using Frame to publish documents to Responsive HTML. In Frame 2017, I can specify file names using a marker. In Frame 2022, nothing works. No matter what I do, whether I use Insert > Publish Marker > Apply Page Break Marker, whether I try custom markers, split on paragraph style or not, Frame always creates filenames based on heading text or the file name. Is this a bug? Has anyone been able to successfully specify file names for HTML output? Thanks for your help
If i drag and drop the Zip file, I am receiving error like the second image of asking to choose the option..Why?
Hi,When I save my FrameMaker book, all of it converts except a section where I have the front matter, front cover, TOC, LOF, and LOT. Everything starting with Introduction outputs fine. I highlighted the info in the attachment. Any ideas? Thanks, Julianna
HiI have a small book, which comprises two files plus the TOC. When I create the output, HTML5, only the TOC displays correctly, but none of the content is displayed.
Context: I'm using FM 2022, and this is the first structured book I've ever made. I created a book (File > New > Book), then added the following documents: RevisionSummary ForewardSafety Chapter1... through Chapter5 Chapter1 - Chapter5 pull elements from the same EDD, which includes the following: - Chapter (highest level element in the document - Section (there are several sections nested within eachother) The other two files also include Section and Chapter elements, though the element catalogues are pulled from a slightly different EDD. I want to create a book-level TOC that includes the Chapter and Section elements for all of these files. However, when I select Insert > Create TOC, the Chapter and Section elements are not available. In fact, most of the elements in these documents are not included. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
How to reduce the size of the table as it extending outside the text boundry.Unable to adjust with cursor, there is option visible to edit the table. Also need to know how to edit the existing tag or EDD which is already available.Any experts to help me out?
Hi community, publishing a book file to chm creates an unexpected structure in the chm toc (hhc file). In the book we use folders to control the numbering of chapters, sections, subsections. Numbering works fine in book toc. No problems when we publish PDFs. Numbering works fine in chm as expected. The usage of folders results in unexpected nesting in the chm toc. Here is an example:## Given structure in the book file: ## Result in the chm toc: We tried different approaches without success (but other unexpected outlines ;-)):use of groups instead of foldersuse of empty groups and/or folders to "reset" the outlineOur toolset:WIN 10 Enterprise (v22H2, build 19045.4651)FM 2022 (v17.0.3)Unfortunately we cannot use the following workaround:Publish chmDecompile the chmRepair the hhc fileRecompile the chmDoes anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem without using the workaround above? Thank you very much in advance for your help.Andreas
I'm still working my way through ditamap. I need to demote several pages under a chapter page, but the header/footer of those demoted pages couldn't access the chapter text, which is obviously in another XML file. How to carry over some of the text from chapter pages for header/footer purpose? Regards, Andy
When converting a task topic to FrameMaker with a <note type="warning"> wrapped in an <info> element doesn't seem to flow down to the attribute type="warning (or caution)". Even when the note is selected, the Structure View still shows the parent step or substep element. My EDD includes: If context is: stepUse paragraph format: step.info.continueElse, if context is: substepUse paragraph format: substep.info.continueElse, if context is: note [type = ”caution”]Use paragraph format: cautionElse, if context is: note [type = ”warning”]Use paragraph format: warning But the type is not getting resolved.
Hi All,If I have a Book with 10 Chapters; in each chapter, I have a Variable called "Manual Name".Is there a way to change a variable value, so it can be updated in entire book at once?If it involves more scripting, how difficult would that be?Any insight would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.
Hello Team, I would like to know if it is possible we can disable adobe cloud services for framemaker via admin console (VIP) and create a customized package and download it? Thanks
We are having some issues in our group where Track Text Edits doesn't work as expected for us in UnStructured Frame: 1) Does not take effect immediately. Open a file immediately after enabling Track Text Edits and open a file, track changes is never enabled yet.2) Does not enable or does not enable consistently throughout all book files. When a book file is opened, text edits may or may not be actually enabled; it's hit or miss.3) Does not persist through single editing session. While editing a file, text changes often stops working.4) Does not persist upon saving and reopening a file or book. After making edits with track changes enabled, What we typically have to do in either situation:1) Select the book file and re-enable Track Text Edits.2) Do that again.3) Update book.4) Save and close book.5) Exit FrameMaker.6) Reopen FrameMaker, reopen book.7) Open a random file and see if text tracking is enabled. 7a) If not working, do that whole process again
Hello. Is there a way to edit just one variable in a multi-chapter book's footer? I only need to change the date, but if I "Import Variables" all my variables change to the source master page. Thank you .
Having installed FrameMaker 2022, I'm doing some benchmark testing before rolling it out to the rest of our content creators. We stuck with FrameMaker 2019 because of two issues we were having in FrameMaker2020: Opening/saving/closing documents over VPN is substancially slower - sometimes up to 6x slower. Unfortunately, copying the files to a local drive it not an option for us. Graphics heavy documents are slow to work with. FrameMaker2020 seems to only load/render the graphics for the visible page. Each time a page becomes active, you have to wait 10-20 seconds for the graphics to render/load. Painful when you're trying to scroll past several pages. FrameMaker2019 either loaded/rendered the graphics for all pages when the document was loaded, or it loaded/rendered the graphics for the visible page substantically faster. We're still having the above bugbears in FrameMaker2022. However, we've run into a new issue. I'm not a fan of the Publish option because it doesn
