FrameMaker

We use background frames to insert watermarks (graphic or text). Unfortunately, when we are trying to make comments on PDFs during review, the watermark is often selected when trying to highlight a piece of text. Both the background graphic and the background text frames are behind the flow frame.As you can imagine, this is getting VERY irritating.Is there anyway at all to set up the background frames so that they are NOT selectable once the file is printed to PDF?

Dear readers, I can't find the Letter Spacing under Fonts in the EDD. Everything else is there, but the Letter Spacing. Does it exist, or is this the only one who isn't changeable via the EDD? Thanks in advance, Belinda

Greetings.I'm importing by reference an Excel file into a FrameMaker file.I'm then cross-referencing from this FM file to multiple other FM files to generate multiple price sheets. At least that's what I'm trying to do.When I update the excel file, the importing FM file also updates as expected. However, the cross-referencing FM file does not update. Instead, the cross-references become unresolved. When I try to reestablish the cross-references (select the file, click Open), the error just reappears. I'm looking for a way to maintain these cross-references from a live import file. (There are thousands of prices to update. The screenshots below are a micro sample I'm using to experiment on.) Here are the importing and x-ref files before I update the spreadsheet: Here they are after I update the spreadsheet: 

I sent mif files out for translation and when I open them the images are all grey boxes. The images were placed by reference in the source file. When I asked my predecessor about it, here is what she said: "For translations, they should reference the same image locations as for the English. Yes, that means repeating the process of finding each missing image for each language. But once you do it for a particular manual, you shouldn't have to do it again (unless someone moves the files)." Is there a better way to do this? Thanks,Julianna

Hi, I have an issue with numbering in a book. I had to change chapter numbering from 4 to 2, which in principle was working. I followed this navigation:   Format --> Document --> Numbering --> Chapter --> Chapter Number,  and changed the chapter number from, 4 to 2 for the complete book.  It did not work for the numbering in the table of content and the page numbering in the body file. In both, it still is "4"   I've read [other posts] and see that my "Format" tab does not provide the "Pagination" option. Although I use the German language version of FM, I think I should have found it by now after trying all the obvious options.   Grateful for any help!

 I want to set this page backround rather than normal white page... i have pdf of this black page... how should i took this background to my document..  want document in this format

When I publish to Responsive HTML5 in unstructured FrameMaker Version 13.0.5.547 the TOC doesn't come through even though I have it marked as "true" in the settings. I don't want the Index or Glossary to come through, so I have them set to "false" but the icons for them are still coming through into HTML.

I have some files in a book that ALWAYS have unresolved cross references, and I don't understand why.When I open the files, I get this message: This happens for several files in the book. Always the same ones.So I fix the unresolved cross references using the Find/Cross References-Unresolved tool and repairing them on the Cross References menu. After the "Find" yields no more unresolved cross references, I save all of the files. Then I update the book.But despite saving ALL of these files, once they are closed and opened again, they once again have the SAME unresolved cross references, even though NOTHING has changed since I repaired the unresolved cross references and saved the files.How is this happening and how do I fix it, permanantly?Thank you.

I am new to FrameMaker but have worked in InDesign. I added three images in an existing FM book and want to add captions that will be numbered in sync with the rest of the captions in the document. I tried adding an anchor frame. According to the directions, once I create one, I can click in and type the caption. But nothing happens when I click into it. Meaning it's not there. I've been trying to figure this out all day to no avail. Sometimes in the anchor initiation screen it has the new anchor button and sometimes the edit anchor button. Sometimes it's greyed out sometimes not. I tried creating a caption without the anchor and a bunch of other work arounds with no luck. Any ideas out there? Thanks, Julianna    

I can see in my Technical Communications suite the apps I have access to, but I cannot install. The "cards"/links are all dead. The "Download your apps" is also only button in appearance. Is there an alternative way to get installers?

I have a Framemaker book that has a few .fm files that are section headings marked with Heading 1, and additional .fm files following. The way the book is set up when it's exported to HTML the heading 1 becomes a parent folder you can expand to view pages underneath. I've since added some new .fm files into the book that automatically sort properly with the TOC, but the problem is that it's not including all pages when I publish to HTML - either the page is totally blank, or it's not grouped under the section heading. Unfortunately the person who set up the book is no longer with us so I'm not able to get an answer about what she did to set the files up to do the automatic grouping.  I've been trying to get a clear answer about what I have to do to get the pages to export but I can't find the information from adobe documentation, I'm not sure if I'm missing some kind of marker or flag? Unstructured FM 17.0.0. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you !! 🙂

I downloaded the FrameMaker 2022 version 17.0 from official website and the downloaded file read as Framemaker_17_LREFDJ.zip. I unzipped and tried installing the app, but it throws an error that "The installation cannot continue as the installer file may be damaged. Download the installer file again." But i have downloaded thrice and different version, still same error. Recently i changed to Dell Workstation laptop Precision 3591 with Intel core Ultra processor. Can someone help me to install the software where my office IT cant fix the issue. Thank you in advance.

Hi all, I am kinda familiar with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign etc, but taking my first steps with FrameMaker. I am using FrameMaker for converting FM files to MIF in order to be translated in some other software. Now a problem has occured that some of the MIF files have the structure messed up. Some blocks have moved into other blocks where they should not be. For example, some pragraphs have moved inside image caption block.  As I am new to FM - is there more to save as MIF than simply Save As? Some settings or checkboxes to be mindful of? 

How can I move the paragraph to start at the left side?

One of the files in my book has lost its .fm suffix and in Explorer the icon is now white. The file still opens fine within the book though.I've tried copying and pasting the contents of the file into a new blank file with a new name and that worked ok. However, when I deleted the dodgy one and renamed the new one to the old name, then the same thing happened.The filename that seems to be causing issues was the original name of the file after I imported it from Word (i.e. the title of the first Heading 1) before splitting it into multiple files via File > Utilities > Split Current Document.I'm not sure what to try next...

I'm finding myself in a bit of a maintenance nightmare. I have a series of templates and I have manually updated the paragraph styles to synchronize the paragraph formats that are used across the templates. Each template has a different function, so they share a core set of paragraph styles. They each have use-specific paragraph styles, so just importing *all* the styles doesn't really work for me. I could, alternatively, put the shared styles in a separate template, I also need to track the complete set of paragraph formats. I'm willing to do the manual updates to synchronize the templates if I have a guide to work from.

Hello! I have tried to find this answer on my own, through various methods, to no avail.I am using FrameMaker 2019 (fully updated) on Windows 10 64bit. When I insert a table, the Style is Format A, and I go in to the Table Designer and set the Start position at Top of Page or Top of Column, the table starts at the top of the next page. This leaves me with one blank page. If I delete this page, then it deletes the table as well. I have tried this on a working document and on a completely new, fresh, blank document and the behavior is the same.My question is:  What steps does one need to take to make it so that when the Start position for a table is Top of Page or Top of Column, that the table starts at the top of the same page that the table was created on?Thanks for the help!

I know that I can conditionalize some text for ConditionalFlagA and other text for ConditionFlagB and show/hide the conditional text and it will be shown/hidden.I know I can  repeat a paragraph and make it bold and conditionalized for ConditionFlagA and non-bold for ConditionFlagB. Let's say the entire document needs to be Arial 10 Bold for ConditionalFlag A and Calibri 11 Normal for ConditionalFlagB, but the textual content is the same. Is there a way to do that without copying all of the text and repeating it and conditionalizing it and then having to update it in two places if I need to edit - which defeats the main advantage of conditional text? (Or making an ESTK script to change the show hide conditions and change the font that way.) Right now, this is a hypothetical, but I do have some practical applications for it. Thanks in advance!!!

Is it true that Adobe FrameMaker does not support OpenType font features? I'm talking about standard features, such as glyph positioning. Diacritical marks are not positioning correctly in FrameMaker, but work correctly in Word. Is there a workaround? FrameMaker is at version 10.0.0.388.

I am trying to get to the bottom of an issue that has been ongoing for almost a month. Our company is trying to figure out a way to number each chapter accordingly. For Chapter 1 as an example pg 1/30 Then in chapter 2 it restarts at 1 and is shown as 1/25 for chapter 3 it is 1/16 and etc. We are able to restart the first number at 1 for each chapter but can not find a way to get the second number to match the correct amount of pages within a folder(Chapter). 

When i insert the chapters to my book they are automatically inserted from Z to A, i then manually drag them into order, see image below.Is there a way to make them insert in the correct order automatically (A to Z)
