I use FrameMaker 9.0p237When I create a PDF from a FrameMaker book, the bookmarks are misplaced in the PDF. For example, in my Frame file, I have:Chapter Title A.Heading 1 a..Heading 2 aChapter Title B.Heading 1 b..Heading 2 bBut, when I create the PDF, some of the chapters' bookmarks appear as:Chater Title AChapter Title B.Heading 1 a..Heading2 a.Heading 1 b..Heading 2 bThis doesn't happen for every chapter, but it does happen consistently for the same chapters each time I create a pdf.What is wrong with my FrameMaker file that would cause this?

Hello,I have 85 microsoft word files that I would like to select and convert to 85 frame maker documents.But I would like to do it at the same time (not one after one). How to do this ? 

I have a single, small unstructured FrameMaker 2015 document. When I generate a PDF, the bookmarks are not indented correctly.The document has headings in this order:Level 1Level 5Level 5Level 4Level 5Level 5My PDF bookmark settings are:Level 1. Level 2.. Level 4... Level 5When I generate a PDF, I get the following:Level 1  Level 2     Level 5     Level 5     Level 4        Level 5        Level 5It is indenting relatively, treating level 4 as another level 5 and then further indenting the level 5s that belong under the level 4.Anyone ever see this before? Any suggestions for fixing (short of changing the order of the headings)?

Hello,I am working with someone that works only on Microsoft Word files, and send its  Word files to me (he has not Frame Maker). On my side I have Frame Maker and I have converted the first version of the Word files sent by him.As he makes a lot of changes on its Word files, is it a way that this person could work directlly on the converted FM files (converted from Word to FM) that I have made on my computer. Problem : he has not the same computer as me and does not have FM.The best way would be a cloud sync of my FM files between me and him.As I have integrated these FM files in a book, it would be great if these FM files from this book could update automatically when he change something on the cloud.I don't know if all that is possible, and if there are other solutions ?

Hello, We want to print PDF in PDF. We place drawings in PDF format in MIF files. After creating a PDF via FrameMaker, some elements are rastered. If we use EPS instead of PDF for the drawings, no elements are rastered. Does anyone have an idea why FrameMaker rasterises elements or how we can avoid this?original PDF: FrameMaker output:  

Can I save a FrameMaker file to an older version of FrameMaker?

This came up in a thread in the main FrameMaker forum: I'd like to be able to allow line breaks at slashes in some instances and suppress them in other instances within the same document. This could be by including a nonbreaking slash special character, similar to nonbreaking hyphens and spaces, or perhaps a simpler and more comprehensive solutiion would be a tool to suppress line breaks within a selected string, regardless of what characters it includes.

Hi all: Searched for this in the FM community but didn't find this exact thing...We were using FM 2019 and this worked. Created a file with all the cross reference text. In the final file, indicated the cross reference text. Because subscripts did not work, we went back and created a subscript character style and applied it to the source in the cross reference file. Saved, replaced the cross references in the final file and voila! Subscripts. Recently, we updated to FM 2022 and this does not work. If you can suggest another way around this or what we're doing wrong, we'd be very appreciative! Thanks so much!Fran H.

The screen capture below shows the Word TOC I'm trying to replicate in FrameMaker. The volume number and three column headings will not display in my FrameMaker TOC. I tried including both on the reference page (see below).  My chapter info is coming from the reference page, so I know I have that set up correctly.Thanks for your help!  

Hi all, I'm working with a pre-created file. I have changed the number of the file and while it puts the correct page information on the top per the publishing specifics, it places the OLD file number at the bottom of the page in an area that will be cropped off. I know that our quality management system will not appreciate the old file number however I cannot figure out how the creator added that information. Does anyone know how I can get rid of it? I've highlighted the text below. Thanks much.

When I open a Framemaker book, select all and show/hide conditional text apply I get an error which nobody knows what it it and how to solve it.Sometimes things help like:1. Apply the conditional text one by one,2. Update book,3. Open all files and 'save and open files'.Usually they don't help. I would like to have a footer that shows page number, but I am using paper that I will cut in half after printing. What I've done is created a master page with two columns to facilitate this. But I think I'm going about this in the wrong way, since the page numbering variable is showing the same number beneath each column. Can anyone please point me to a different workaround? I would prefer to avoid moving to InDesign. Thanks.

Hi everyone,I'm working with FM22 on structured documents. I have a two-columns layout and I want all my pages to be fully filled. But it can happen that after some action (find/replace for instance), one of my pages is not filled anymore (a column breaks before the bottom of the textframe).So I'd want to write a script checking this, and I need to locate the y-location of the end of each subcol and/or footnote. After numerous attempts, I need your help.I think I know how to loop over all subcols and their footnotes, but I can't figure how to consistently reach the last character of these and how to get a y-location I can use (TextLoc object doesn't have a LocY attribute for instance).Would you help me ? Thanks in advance, Martin

I'm using this code to center a window: var win = new Window("palette",'MyWindow:', [$.screens[0].right/2 - 253,$.screens[0].bottom/2 - 127, $.screens[0].right/2 + 253, $.screens[0].bottom/2 + 127]);That will work if the active document is on monitor 1 ($.screens[0]), but if it is on monitor 2 or 3, it will show my window on monitor 1. Is there a way to query what monitor (screen) the active document is using? Thanks in advance.

Okay - I have a script that was deleting paragraphs based on markers, it wasn't working with hidden conditional formatting so I added:doc.ShowAll = true;at the beginning of the script and doc.ShowAll = false;at the end, which works.I have a new scirpt which inserts a file as a copy at the beginning of the active document. When it does this, it tends to show all of the conditional text in the active document.I added doc.ShowAll = false; at the end of the script, but it doesn't seem to work (occasionally it does, but usually it does not.I tried doc.ShowAll = 0; but that didn't work either.I saw on page 694 (Electronic) of the Framemaker scripting manual that there is supposed to be a book property so I tried:doc.ApplyConditionalSettings(Constants.FV_ShowAsPerConditions);But it said that wasn't a function.I realize it's pretty easy to click the button manually, but still ...

I'm suddenly receiving an error message when trying to open a topic or ditamap via FrameMaker 16.04 connecting to AEM 4.01 via the connection manager. Connection to AEM is successful, but opening of topic/ditamap is not. I can connect to another AEM server instance and topics/ditamaps open without fail. I'm not sure if this is a FM issue or an AEM issue; posting here in hopes someone else has seen it. I've tried rebooting, restarting FM, resetting the AEM connection in FM via the conneciton manager. All fail.

I am using Structured FrameMaker 2022 Version 17.0.1.305.   I mainly edit XML files in a ditamap file.  When I save the ditamap to "Book 2022 with fm components," new FM files are generated.  In these new .FM files, the table columns appear in various, random sizes.  I do not know why and I am trying to stop it from happening.  For instance, in one of my topics, in the XML file, I have a total of 14 tables, each with two columns.  One column is always 1.68."  The other is always 5.32."  When I save the ditamap file that contains this XML file as a .BOOK (with fm components), these same tables appear but one coloumn has a width, not of 1.68", but of either 1.445", 1.435" or 1.255."  The other column becomes either 4.576, 4.544" or 3.974," not 5.32". I'd like all of these tables to be 1.445" and 4.576". Furthermore, if I change the column size in the XML file, and close it, when I re-open it, the change hasn't saved. I

I have a note icon in FrameMaker that appears correctly.  When I save the file to pdf the icon disappears.  Any suggestions on what to try?

I think this will be a difficult question.I have a document that must have a date as 20230517 in one location and as 5 May 2023 in another location.This is a publication date, but not necessarily today's date, nor the creation date.We use user variables - for example "DateYearFirst" and "DateD-M-Y" for the two dates and update them manually.I know if VBA, there are format codes that can change the date format.Does anyone know of a way to set up either Extendscript or the template so that when the YYYYMMDD variable is updated, the d Mmm YYYY date variable is also updated?Something like an OnChange event for the variable.

Can anybody help me create PDF files in FM? I am coming back to FM after 6 years. I am not able to save FM files to PDF. I think my Adobe reader and fm setup is not setup correctly. I installed FM 2022 recently on amazon workspace, tried to convert to a PDF using the File > Save as PDF option, but could not. I realized I did not have Adobe PDF printer loaded. I have a document with 3 pages, i need assign the respective numbering.I create a header and insert a page number but in three pages appears de same number for example in the page 1 and the page 2 and the page 3 appears the number 1 does not follow the correlative. how can I configure the numbers to follow the sequential order? RegardsJose

Hello,In Frame Maker I have a document with text.About the Tab Key :1) If I click on a line and click on the space bar, the text moves to the right. But by using the Tab Key, nothing happen (the text does not move to the right).2) If I select several lines of text with the mouse and use the Tab Key, the selected text is deleted. Why I cannot use the Tab Key in a FM document to move the text to the right ?
