FrameMaker

Hi FrameMaker friends:   I am working with some students today and observed red outlines around five icons in their book window. Normally, the outlines are black for both generated files and user files (like the top two in the screen shot).   What important information is the red outline trying to convey?   Thanks in advance,  ~Barb  

I want to apply a master page that I have created and used in an .fm file, but when I update my book, my Book Error Report says "No master pages applies because the MasterPageMaps table contains no mapping information."  Does anyone have an idea why?  What can I do to fix this problem?  Please share.  Thanks!In the Reference Pages for the .fm file, here's what the MasterPageMaps tables look like:   

Dear FM experts. I am using FM2020, with structured DITA. I inherited everything from someone else, and I am not sure if the way that things are set up are considered "best practise" or not. For example, we use the <note> element which includes a prefix depending on the value of an attribute. When authoring, some of the <note> elements were written with just text, and others used a <p> element to hold the note content. Initially, both of these resulted in the same desired output, where the prefix appears at the start of the note content. However, at some point the EDD files were changed and the output of these two were different. I change fonts in Paragraph Designer and save the file.  When I re-open the file, it's as though I never changed anything at all.  Why?

Hi,I have one chapter in a book that is not showing the correct page numbers. The first page is number 7 followed by number 8, and then number 8 again. I have tried to update using Format > Document > Numbering and putting in the First Page (7) and clicking Set. That did not work. I tried Format > Document > Numbering and Continue Numbering from First Page in Book and clicking Set, and that did not work either. I checked the other chapters and the numbering setup is to Continue Numbering from First Page in Book. I don't know what else to try. Any help would be great. Thank you. Cheers,Elizabeth 

Dear all, I  am struggling to run FrameScript on FM-16, update 3 and higher. While everything works fine in the initially released version up to update 2, in higher updates FrameScript does not accept options any more. There are no such problems in FM ≤ 15 and FM-17. → Any ideas what's going on here? Frame maker 2020 chm file(windows help file),  the context sensitive link is not working properly when called from visual sutdio and a map id is specified

  I have created a Feature Request for FrameMakers Publish Dialogue. I would like the skin editing dialogue to be tranparant when it comes to the url's of icons and graphics. I many ways FrameMaker works like a webeditor and showing the actual url's of graphics and other stuff which is referenced into the publication would make everything a lot easier. Downloaded the trial to see if previous version issues have been fixed that stopped us upgrading from 2019. The installer gets to 70-90% then throws up this generic 183 error. I've 'unblocked' the zip file before extracting the installer contents.Running windows 10 currently, and have the latest .net framework installed.Does anyone have any pointers/solutions?

Hi,I have a book that contains 7 chapters, and only one chapter in the TOC has working links for the heading and sub headings. I have tried different ways to make the content in the remaining six chapters clickable, but nothing has worked. I have tried to insert cross references and hyperlinks but they haven't worked. I have tried to determine how the one chapter in the book is different from the rest WRT the TOC, but don't see any differences. I really don't know what else to try.  Any help or tips would be great. Thank you.Cheers,Elizabeth     

I recently installed FrameMaker 2022. When I noticed that it did not replace the pre-existing FM 2020 installation, I uninstalled FM 2020. The next time I tried to open a FM book, FM would not open. A Windows message "Registry information is invalid or missing" appeared. I had to re-install FM 2022.

I just started working with FrameMaker 2022, and I could not get any information to appear in panels such as Object Properties.Until I resized the FM window on another  display with a different resolution and scaling. Apparently, FM 2022 does not like 1920x1080 at 150% scaling.

Hi,I am in the process of trying to resolve cross references in a FM 2020 TOC in a PDF. When I display the cross references in the chapters identified, there are no unresolved ones displayed. When I click the unresolved cross reference entry in the error log, the corresponding chapter opens. I discovered that there is conditional text applied to the entries that are appearing as unresolved cross references. How do I fix the conditional text issue, and how do I get the links in the TOC to work? Thank you for any help.Cheers,Elizabeth 

FrameMaker 2022: Send for Review function fails to distill PDF, but the regular method (saving a .ps file and using distiller) works fine. Anyone know what setting I'm missing, or what the solution may be? We will be moving from FrameMaker 2017 to 2022, and I am evaluating the features for my team. I would love for this to work, because we already use shared reviews in the Adobe Cloud.

A co-worker has encountered an issue with opening FrameMaker 11. He is receiving the following 'Access Denied'  message. He has not experienced this issue in the past. Any idea why this is occurring and how to fix it?:

When I export a book to epub using Publish, the epub file will always come out with the TOC at the very end of the file rather than after the front matter where it sits in the FM book file. I can't figure out why. It seems like a bug somehow. Can it be fixed I wonder? Anybody here who can answer?

We have several users running Framemaker 2015.  Files with no graphics will load quickly.  Any time the file contains graphics, it will load very slowly at the page that contains graphics.  It happens whether the file is local or on a server.  Are there any best practices to speed up the loading of a file?  Should the graphics be converted to a certain type of file?  We are currently using jpgsThanks

Hi,I am trying to remove empty space that exists between a graphic banner and a Chapter Title. When I click in the blank area, the space and the Chapter Number Heading turns black, and Not Applicable appears in the display. Kind of like the R with a circle like the Registered Trademark, but with a W instead of R.Or do I have to create that as a graphic to have it stay in line with surrounding text?

Trying to do a Find for apostrophes (I want to eliminate contractions) but seaarching by text or wildcard s doesn't seem to work, What's the secret?

I am hoping someone else has seen this problem and found the solution for it. I am creating large documents using a custom schema. I now have to add a cross-reference to it. It all works fine while I am opening and editing files in FrameMaker. But when writing the valid file to XML, the writer does not generate a close tag for the <xref> element, which makes the XML invalid. I am hoping there is a simple switch somewhere in FrameMaker's many settings, or an instruction I need to add to the read-write rules. Before trying to read through the many pages of the Structured Application guides, I thought it might be useful to post my question here. If any of you knows where the catch is, and how to get around this obvious flaw in FM, let me know asap. Kind regards from Amsterdam Jang
