Hi I am fairly new to InDesign and am trying to create a Table of Contents. I have created a Paragraph Style with Large text, in bold, callled 'Table of Contents Heading'. If I create some text using this paragraph style it shows exactly as I want. However, when I try to create a Table of Contents, and instruct InDesign to use this for the Title Style, it just shows a basic White Text. I have attached a couple of marked up screenshots showing the Table of Contents with the wrong Title Style and odd objects, and also a screen shot of the TOC Settings. The Green shows the Parapgraph Style in a normal Text Box, all Good.The Red shows the TOC Title which should look the same as the text circled in Green.The Orange shows items I have no idea where they have come from. Nothing I try makes any difference. If I double click into the Table of Contents and select the text, it states that it is in the Style I want, but the Font size and all other attributes are
Hello,I’m working on setting up a document where I have 8” x 9” pages forming a 16” x 9” spread. I’m trying to set up a 5 column grid on my master spread that jumps the gutter, but I can only find ways to set the number of columns per PAGE, and not to set the margins for the spread. In essence, I need a 16” x 9” page with a 5 column grid, but I need to set it up using two 8” x 9” pages so it can be printed as a spread. I functionally need 2.5 columns per page to create the grid structure I am looking for, but InDesign doesn’t support fractional columns, either.Can anyone tell me if there is a clean way to achieve this?Thanks!
I just updated InDesign CC and it is now highlighting text that doesn't follow an established paragraph style. How do I turn this feature off?
I uncheck "Open in Full Screen Mode" when exporting an interactive PDF, but Acrobat (and Reader) continue to tell me my PDF is trying to open in full screen. This document is for non-tech savvy people who are going to have trouble with extra clicks or changing Acrobat settings. What am I missing here?

All my books (several hundred) are formatted using the Times New Roman TTF font. The new version of InDesign 21.0 changes that to Times New Roman OTF.Fortunately, version 20.0 is still installed. I know from experience that strange things can happen in updates.. However, the problem with the latest update has also been introduced in that version.OTF is only available with a licence, which I do not have. I would appreciate some help.Cor van Wijgerden <Title renamed by MOD>
Using extendscript I want to insert a textFrame at the end of a table cell that contains several paragraphs. But this keeps throwing an error stating that this is not allowed for graphic type cells. But the cell is not a graphic type, as I already placed several paragraphs in it. And even after forcing the cell type to text the error remains: cell.cellType = CellTypeEnum.TEXT_TYPE_CELL; newFrame = cell.textFrames.add();Throws a runtime error as indicated.Is this a bug ?Running version 21.4.1.164
I feel so complicated now. var d = app.activeDocument;var item = d.selection[0]; if (item.constructor.name == 'Rectangle' && 'TextFrame' == item.parent.parentTextFrames[0].constructor.name) { var curFrame = item.parent.parentTextFrames[0]; alert(curFrame); imgFitFrame(item, curFrame); }I feel so complicated now.When selecting an image, I want to get the text box where the image is located. But it's strange that when I select an image outside the box, there will be an error, and it should not have any response at this time.At this point, 'item. parent. parentTextFrames [0]' does not exist and prompts' illegal '. What should I do?
My team has reviewed the document and the comments are showing in review but none of their highlights or pins are showing. I've signed in and out, restarted my computer, etc and it has made no difference. It isn't showing on their end either when they open the review link. It's like they disappeared. Below is a screenshot.
I am importing PSD files with multiple artboards. In IMPORT OPTIONS they appear as layers and I can turn them on/off (choose to import them or not) BUT regardless the image box is the entire size of all the artboards put together. I wonder if any one knows if you can import a single artboard from a PSD and have the image box in InDesign open to the proportion of that single artboard?Anyone?thanks Debbie
Hi everyone.I want to use a script to set the object style for the following image.I searched for some information and tried several times without success.The annotation section seems incorrect, while the rest is correct.reference material:https://www.indesignjs.de/extendscriptAPI/indesign-latest/#AnchoredObjectSetting.htmlThank you very much. imgObjStySet();function imgObjStySet() {var imgObjSty= app.documents[0].objectStyles.itemByName('img') imgObjSty.setDimensionAttributeState(DimensionAttributes.WIDTH_ATTRIBUTE, true); imgObjSty.transformAttributeOptions.transformAttrWidth = '52mm'; imgObjSty.textWrapPreferences.textWrapOffset = ["2mm", "2mm", "5mm", "5mm"]; //imgObjSty.anchoredObjectSettings = { // anchorPoint: AnchorPoint.TOP_CENTER_ANCHOR, // horizontalReferencePoint: AnchoredRelativeTo.TEXT_FRAME, // verticalReferencePoint: VerticallyRelativeTo.LINE_BASELINE, // horizontalAlignment: HorizontalAlignment.CENTER_ALIGN, // verticalAlignmen
When I try to delete Indesign files from my desktop, even if the files are small - it can take up to 60 seconds for things to fully delete. Same when using box or google drive folders and copying to desktop. These are small files, and no other program’s files take the amount of time the Indesign files do. Sometimes even renaming takes up to 45 seconds. What’s up with this? Mac OS 15.7.7, Indesign 21.4.1.
Hi everyone.If I select partial text, I will clear the preference for the selected text.If all text (the whole story) is selected, priority will be given to clearing all objects under the story.I found that I selected the entire story and only selected some of the text,The results of alert (app. selection [0]. constructor. name) are allText.How can I distinguish between these two states?thank you.
Why I can’t report a Bug in the Indesign Community?The names in the “open recent” menu are not readable. the are lay over by other letters.Indesign 21.4.1 on MacOS 26.5.1
Hi all,I’m hoping someone has seen this before, because I’m running out of things to try.I’m using the latest version of InDesign on Windows 11 Pro. While working on presentations, InDesign initially behaves normally, but after several minutes it gradually starts to malfunction.The first symptom is usually that Ctrl+Z / Undo becomes unavailable. After that, other problems begin to appear:Images become difficult or impossible to resize or place Scrolling through the document becomes intermittent The spinning blue Windows cursor sometimes appears I can usually close and save the document, although occasionally saving also fails InDesign itself will not close normally I have to force-close the application through Task ManagerThere are no error messages and the application does not fully crash. It simply becomes increasingly unresponsive.The issue happens during normal work, including selecting objects, editing text, moving items and placing or resizing images. It does not appear to be lim
I didn't understand this, what's the unique usage.I thought it could be set separately, but always with the last one unifying all four sides. tabSty.properties = {//topBorderStrokeWeight: '0.1mm',//leftBorderStrokeWeight: '0.2mm',//bottomBorderStrokeWeight: '0.5mm',rightBorderStrokeWeight: '0.5mm',}
I’ve just updated to InDesign 21.4.1, although doing this through Creative Cloud I wasn't given the option of an ‘Update’ button, instead I had a ‘Download’ button, which seems like it is a completely new program? But once I downloaded the app, it appeared like an update by overwriting version 24.1.When I launched the new version, all of my preferences and workspace disappeared, I also wasn’t given the option to transfer them over either. So I have just wasted an hour of my time having to set them all up again, trying to remember all of my preferences.
Hallo!
Da
I have a 8.5 x 11 facing page document where some of the pages have a full page image which bleeds on (for example) the top, bottom and left if a left side page and I have a 1/8 set on top outer and bottom sides and 0” bleed on the inside. The image is aligned to the page edge on the inner gutter with no image bleeding to the right side. Verifying the alignment the right edge is at 8.5”. If I make a pdf there is a teeny sliver of the image showing up on the right hand inner margin of the facing page. I have one client that always flags this issue so I have to fix this by setting the image to 8.499”. This seems like a bug and once it is pointed out to me it really bothers me. It only seems to do this for photos and not coloured boxes. Is there something I am doing wrong? I have attached screen shots from the pdf. First image shows a 2up display where you can see the teeeny slice. Image 2 shows the single page view where the slice is more obvious (not big but it is there and my client h
Is it possible to delete a button's roll over state once it's created? I can hide it, but I want it gone or deactivated. Any way to do this?
This is how my mac is showing images… I change to normal view rather than HQ performance and it returns to normal. Problem is I need to copy and paste some images out of it, and when I do, it gives me the image with the lines. Any ideas?Mac M1 MaxUpdated latest version. Mac OS 15.6.1 Sequoia
A litle help here; today suddenly, I've placed several logos and icons created in Illustrator, and they are showing a white background instead of being transparent. I thought it was a redraw issue so I quit everything and sitll the issue. Then I restarted and I still see it. Have placed other logos and same issue. Worst, the PDF is exporting with this white background!!! • Display is set to high Quality Display• Fill for placed logo is set to none, both on bounding box and object• Other logos placed before today don't have the issue.• Made a new file, placed a different vector, same issue. What gives??? Any clues? InDesign 19.3 (yes I know there's a new version but it was giving me the issue of not bveing able to save)Mac OSX Sonoma 14.5Appli M1 Max 32GB
In the latest update of InDesign when I have multiple shapes and frames on the page selected, if my cursor is above something like a rectangle with content/picture inside it, I only move the picture that is below it at the time. Rather than the whole selection of objects as it used to. I tested before and after the update and it was something that only broke with 21.4. If I cursor over a solid shape object while still selecting the entire group (including the photo frame) that then moves the entire section but only if cursor above a placed fill object does it break. What could possibly be happening?
