InDesign

For a couple of years now, even with updated versions and OS, InDesign has had a bug that makes my document invisible. That is, all elements can be selected (see screenshot), and you can make it visible again by enabling “Overprint Preview.” But very frustrating to close and then open the files again to make it visible.Does anyone have a solution to this? 

I need to explore writing plug-ins or import mechanisms for InDesign. Where can I find the latest SDK and docs?

Hello. I'm getting back to work after over a year on a large book with many images, and several images will need to be edited. Is there a quick way to locate the image on disk that is linked in InDesign? I don't see anything like "image properties" or "linked image" when right clicking on the image in the project. I see relink image, but it doesn't take me to the location or the currently linked image. 

I am trying to package an InDesign file and am receiving an error message. "This document contains links to files/URL(s) that are not accessible. Please check your network connectivity or the original source of content." There are no errors in preflight. Placed graphics are linked. URLs in the document are correct. I am on Mac OS 13.4 and InDesign 2023 (just upgraded.)

I am the licensed owner of InDesign CS5. The previous two computers I had loaded this on crashed, and I can't deactivate it, and I therefore can't load it on my new computer. Is there a workaround?

Is there a way I can change the thickness of the lines in the layout grid? I'm exporting a PDF with the layout grid included (so that I can then use it as a guide in After Effects). But the lines show up as quite faint when I import into AE

Hallo, in Indesign wird Text in Textrahmen nicht mehr angezeigt. Es betrifft aber nicht alle Textkästen mit gleichem Absatzformat. Beim Bewegen der Kästen mit dem Fehler stürzt Indesign ab. Wir können den Fehler etwas einschränken: Manchmal hilft es, das Objektformat der fehlerhaften Kästen auf "ohne" zu stellen. Zudem hilft es, die automatische Größenanpassung der Rahmen zu deaktivieren. Als Workaround geht das. Bei ca. 500 solcher Textkästen mit Objektformaten ist das aber sehr aufwändig und fehleranfällig. Kennt jemand das Problem und hat eine Idee für eine Lösung?Indesgin 2025 auf Mac M4, Adobe-SchriftDanke und viele Grüße! Matthias

One small tweak that would significantly improve efficiency:When clicking into an input field in the toolbar, the entire value should be automatically selected.Right now, clicking into a field just places the cursor at the end of the number. This means we have to either:Manually delete the existing value before typing a new one.Double-click to select the whole field, then type the new value.Instead, the default behavior should be that a single click highlights the entire field, so we can immediately type in a new value and press Enter.This would eliminate unnecessary clicks and make input adjustments much faster.It should also be an easy fix in the code!

I can purposefully type a misspelled word in InDesign and the Spell Check doesn't catch it. In fact it doesn't seem to work at all.

I have selected an image that has the words "Sample text replace with your text".  How do I go about removing the text so I can use the image?  I am using a 7 day trial of InDesign, but it is NOT for beginners and I am having trouble figuring out how to manipulate the image.

The spreads in the pages window aren't centered and I want to center them. There also isn't an icon for the A Parent page.    When searching for a fix I found a link regarding this: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-pages-window-misalignment-glitch/td-p/8834099. However, with the Indesign Creative Cloud version, I don't know how to trash these preferences. The ctrl+alt+shift method didn't work.    So I guess I have two questions: (1) How do I reset/trash my preferences in creative cloud indesign besides using the ctrl+alt+shift method?  (2) Is there another way to fix this problem besides reset/trash preferences? 

Indesign files open as [Read-Only] and the only way you can save the file is to save it somewhere else or save it with a different name and then delete the old file? There seems to be a workaround for windows https://www.reddit.com/r/indesign/comments/13lti2e/files_opening_as_readonly/ but is there a workaround for Mac?

I have a group consisting of some text frames, a shape, and some photos. When I try to resize the group, the shapes resize proportionally fine, but the text resizes the frame. Still, it doesn't change the size of the text itself and the image is just moved out of focus in the frame (as can be seen in the attached image, the space between the original pic and the frame.How can I get all elements of the group to scale correctlyThank you, and have a good day!Susan Flamingo

I can't get the text wrap panel to display. I go to Window, select text wrap, but no panel. I go back into Window to make sure text wrap box is still checked, and it is. Still no panel. My other selected panels display just fine, but I can't use the text wrap function without the panel.

Is it true that I cannot do anything about this?The file I'm working on has 91 endnotes. I tried exporting it and Indesign just hangs.  I tried doing the first 20 endnotes and it worked, is there a limit with how many endnotes I can export?  I tried deleting periods at the end of the endnotes and it worked for the first 20 but now it doesn't. Please help me! I've attached the IDML of the book, don't mind the mess of the flow as I am focusing on how to make the endnotes work.:(

Can anyone help with a question regarding importing from Word to InDesign? A Word document has a couple of fonts and also small/large caps. When I import it into InDesign, the fonts or small caps always spill over (not sure how else to describe). I then have to take more time to put things back to regular size or font. I've noticed that if there's a footnote at the end, the change doesn't go past the footnote and the text is as it should be. Can anyone help me? It's creating more work to fix than is necessary. Thank you!

Greetings everyone,    I just bought my surface pro 11 and i have downloaded the creative cloud on it. However, I don't see Indesign, and Illustator there to download it on my device.    I have heard that due to the snapdragon indesign and illustrator will not be able to be downloaded but i saw as well that july was the month that we should have this issue fixed.    can anyone adivse how to dowload it ?    Thanks in advance   <Title renamed by MOD>

Anybody know where the Span Columns went in ID 2019? I can't find it on the properties panel.

I have scanned a book and saved it in a txt file. I then used Ctrl+D to browse for the file and brought the text onto the cursor. I pressed Shift+control and got a dialogue saying 'Autoflow'. First problem: The book is about 120 pages but ID spreads it out 2833 pages! Why? Is there a style automatically applied and how could I change that?So I then select all the text and apply a 'standard para' style which brings the text back to editable length - but then I get problem 2. The tracking seems to be set at 50 for all para styles but my 'standard para' tracking is 0. I can change the tracking via the control panel and the style override highlighter shows green but if I re-apply the standard para style I get the tracking back at 50.This is a very 'vanilla' style, no GREP styles, everything on default except the font and font-size.Can anyone suggest what is going on?

Hi! I've created a TOC with dot leaders, but there are inconsistent gaps between the end of the headings and the start of the dots. I've checked and there are no extra spaces at the end of the heading. Does anyone know how to make it more consistent? Specifically, I'm looking to fill the gap at the end of "at a glance," which is quite large, the others are a little annoying but nothing to lose sleep over.

Hi all!  Please help.This has been bugging me for a while, but now to the point i'm going crazy.  If I have an InDesign document minimized, and I open a new document, the minimized window flys open and puts itself in front of the file I just opened. Which then I need to minimize it again. Photoshop doesn't do this.  Nor does Illustrator. Just InDesign.I don't like the application frame being open because of the background, so don't have that selected, and I don't open the documents in tabs.  I like everything floating.  I've never had this issue in older versions.  I think it started last year or so.Please tell me there is a simple solution to fixing this that I am not seeing!  Make the minimized documents stay minimized!  lol.

Hallo Zusammen,Kurz zur Vorgeschichte, ich habe ein interaktives PDF gemacht, doch mit der schlechteren Qualität hat es immer noch 55 mb.Nun habe ich versucht alle Bilder als webp abzuspeichern und in das Dokument einzubauen.Interessanterweise ist der Bilderordner von 622mb auf 83mb geschrumpft. Die iD Datei hingegen ist sogar größer geworden. von 193,3mb auf 297,5mb. Das PDF ist mit den webp Bildern bei gleicher Exporteinstellungen nur 1mb kleiner.Habt ihr eine Idee, warum der Unterschied in die andere Richtung ging beim Dkument und warum das PDF nicht um ein Vielfaches kleiner ist als mit psd.jpg, png und jpg Bilder.
