Hi all,So I am tasked to make edits to an existing 100+ government report, that was originally created by some ooutside agency. Some of these edits ares deleting/adding and reordering endnotes. For some reason in this document someone edited in some manual endnote and not the "Insert endnote" along the way. I am trying to fix that. So I deleted the Endnote pages at the end of the docment, all the manual ends in the body as well and started from #1 and redid them. All was well until i went to insert endnote #16.... when i do that in this document, it automatically makes #16 > #14 and makes the original #14, #15 above it into #15 and #16. So now 14 is below 15 and 16. And if I go to add what would be originally #17 it makes that one #15 and renumbers the 15 and 16 above it to 17 and 18... #14 stays tho in what should be the #16 endnote. What am i missing? Is there some underlying setting or macro or something that is dictating this. I figured removing the original endnotes and st
I am trying to export an InDesign file to PDF and am receiving two error messages. First - "This document contains links to files/URL(s) that are not accessible. Please check your network connectivity or the original source of content." Second - Failed to Export the PDF file." Preflight window there are no errors. Links window are to the placed photos. I can't find a URL or email address in the document that is not correctly associated under the hyperlinks window with the real URL or email address. I have read to export as a mark up file and have done that, but to no avail, continue to receive the error message. Document is a two page bulletin to be emailed to a group. Operating system is Windows 10 Pro. Creative Cloud just updated recently, automatically. Thank you for your help,Edith
How do I create an interactive checkbox inside a table and have control over its alignment with other checkboxes and make the spacing equal between other boxes?
Greetings, I seem to have encountered a strange issue with an InDesign file, where there is an object on a Master Page in one of the book files, that I want to remove, yet I cannot even select it (not even using force-select), see screenshot below for more detail. It's as if it is embedded into the page/background somehow, even though it's a text box as far as I can tell. I tried deleting the Master Pages with that item, then importing Master Pages without that object from other files in the Book, but then said object magically appears on the newly imported Master Pages as well, even though it's not there in any other file within the Book. Any ideas? It's the "Return to Table of Contents" box.
I want to make a multilevel list in the following manner: I. Title1.1 Subtitle1.2 Subtitle1.3 SubtitleII. Title2.1 Subtitle2.2 Subtitle However, if I set the first-level numbering format to I, II, III, and second-level numbering to 1, 2, 3, 4 with the numbering as ^1.^2^t, it will display I.1, I.2, I.3, and so on instead of 1.1, 1.2, 1.3. Is there any way to "override" the parent numbering style when referencing it? If not, I think it is a quite common scenario and I would like to add this feature.
Creating some stuff in this indesign 2025, it's a nightmare, everything lags, it runs slowly, moving fonts and paragraphs jumps, I did all the things like resetting settings etc. why doesn't it run as smoothly as illustrator? my computer macbook pro m2 max, 96gb ram. <Title renamed by MOD>
I was just asked to take over a coffee-table book design project for a client in Guatemala. The original designer sent me the packaged inDesign file a couple days ago, and I find that of the 170+ images (photographs) in the book, the vast majority have effective ppi at significantly less than 300. Most are in the 200 – 285 effective ppi range, but many are less than 200 effective ppi and a few are 91. In my years doing book design, including a couple dozen coffee-table books for artists and photographers, I have stuck to the standard of 300 effective ppi on all images placed in an inDesign file. In the rare case when I haven’t had access to an original image that could meet that standard, I’ve used the PhotoShop Preserve Details resample function to boost an image to 300 effective ppi. However, I’ve never dared to do that with an image that was less than 290 effective ppi to start with, assuming a large boost would make the image look altered. I brought up the resolution issu
After I updated my IOS with Sequoia and Indesign, the new version of Indesign is horrible, I can't work because it crashes ALL THE TIME! Anyone else having this problem?
Why must bullets and numbers keyed in as part of a text block in InDesign be converted to text before covering to path, unlike in Illustrator? The User Manual teaches how it is done but not the rationale for this extra step.
Hi, Is there a way to reuse tab styles to ensure consistency and work faster across my file? Thanks!

Hi, I have 3 text layers and each has an invisible overhang that covers the layer(s) below it. Here is a screenshot of the page with the overhangs circled in cyan and the obscured text highlighted. Here is a screenshot of it when I move the lowest layer on the page forward so it shows: I have the "Not all composers are dead..." text in a separate box because is set to the full margins, compared to the "John Batiste..." text which is narrower due to thumbnail images that will be to the right of that lower text layer. What am I doing that causes this overhang? I do re-use my files - meaning I open last program's file and edit it to the current version as a 'save as'. Is that my problem? Thanks for any help and education! Jen
Hi,I have a list of sentences with numbers at the start. Generally unicode values of numbers should be from 30-39, however, since the matter is in arabic and I need the numerls in 30 - 39 unicode values, I need to convert it from arabic system to english system. i.e \x{6f0} to \x{30} for number 0\x{6f1} to \x{31} for number 1 .... and so on. As there are more than 10000 numbers it will take forever. How can I do this in InDesign ?Thanks
Hi, In InDesign, I want to display each article on a separate page. The page height should automatically adjust vertically based on the length of the text. My heading style is set to "Start in Next Frame." Thank you for your help and rights.
I have a 16 page InDesign file that contains hundreds of imported Illustrator images that were created using spot colors. Each image will be die cut, so I also have a layer in the InDesign file with the die lines created using a spot color set to overprint. How do I create a pdf with the Illustrator images converted to 4-color process but with the die lines layer remaining a spot color? Is that even possible? If it's not possible, does anyone have a suggestion for a way to output the file so that the die lines won't print along with the 4-color pages, but are there so that printer can use them for the die-cuts? Secondarily, I'm also finding that when I create a pdf proof, some of the die lines appear as overprinting, but some do not. Anybody have a theory as to why that would happen?
So I was using inDesign like usual, all I did was add 2 pages in the middle of my document and then my vertical scroll is unresponsive (I am on mac by the way) but I use the trackpad and also a mouse. Horizontal scrolling and zooming in and out is still working, I just can't scroll vertical anymore which is a huge hindrance. Does somebody have a quick solution because this seems very minor but it is effecting my workflow a lot. Please help!
When I use World-Wide paragraph composer, double-digit footnote callouts in text change so that the first digit is superscript but the second digit changes to a regular number. I can only fix this by changing the paragraph composer or I can manually make the superscripts with the style on the top of the menu--but these are not as attactive as superscripts that come with the typefaces I'm using. I'm using InDesign 20.0.1, but I beleive this has been happening for several versions.
When I place certain .psd files a thin grey line appear around the border of the file. But not consistently and depending on the zoom level the grey line will be visible on only side or more – And I can't seem to see a pattern in when. The line is also visible when I export to a pdf with the same random behavior. The placed file do not have a stroke around it. Anyone know what can cause this and how to get rid of it?
