I want to be able to reset scaling values on objects in InDesign, without changing their size. I found the following script snippet online, that does the job:app.selection[0].redefineScaling();But it only works on one object at the the time, even if I select multiple ones. Is there a way to make it work on multiple objects? Keep in mind that I know next to nothing about scripting 😅

Using object styles erases custom image descriptions. I think this is new behaviour, although I am not certain. If I apply an object style to an image, it sets the alt text to custom and populates the image description field with whatever was there when the style was created. Object Styles should not inherit alt text, just in case that needs to be said out loud. Is this a bug?

I have a series of text boxes which are threaded. I would like to be able to include (automatically) an indicator that this item continues on page X or on items that are continued that this item was continued from page Y  - like they do in newspapers or other publications,  How can this be done?

I’m trying to use Position Images 1.043 in InDesign 2026, and I feel like its behavior has changed since the last update. It’s hard to describe what exactly is happening because it feels inconsistent, but I’m constantly running into “Error: This value would cause one or more objects to leave the pasteboard” when trying to do “move image only” operations. This is especially problematic for me because I’m trying to position images so that three sides of the image are outside of bleed. My best guess is that something happened with how it’s finding the 0, 0 point or reference point.Is anyone else having problems with Position Images 1.043 in InDesign 2026? Did 2026 change anything that would cause this?

Is there a way in InDesign to convert all text to outline? I would prefer not to go to every single page and click on the text block then convert to outline. I tried to find a way to do it in Find/Change... but nothing.A bit of what the file is, I am sending addresses to be printed on envelopes. InDesign is the best option with using Data Merge from a .csv file but it would be nice to convert all text without having to convert everying in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Please don't respond with I shouldn't be converting to outlines.

when I import plain text into a Primary Text frame to create mulipage threaded text, the text keeps getting stuck mid way on a page in Overset for no reason. I have used this function almost daily for the last dog knows how long (years!) and it’s not working correctly anymore. It keeps stopping midway page 3 when I am anticipating 10 pages. It doesn’t matter if I repeat the action into a new document or using a previous document, it just stops, goes into Overset and even if I then try manually to put it into a new text frame (instead of using the Primary text frame it still isn’t willing to flow.) This happens as soon as a Paragraph Style (of any kind) is applied and I do not wish for Hyphenating - it stops working. (which has never happened before).This is entirely unrealted to e.g. word lenght etc. 

 Hi everyone,I'm having a strange issue with the Fraunces variable font in InDesign 2025 and wondering if anyone else has encountered this.The static instances of the font (Thin, Light, Regular, etc.) display correctly. But as soon as I try to use the variable sliders to adjust any axis, the font suddenly switches to a completely different sans serif font. After that, it becomes uneditable, and the ⌘+Z (Undo) command stops working entirely within InDesign until I restart the app.I’ve tried reinstalling the font and restarting InDesign (and also reinstalling InDesign), but the issue persists.Same with InDesign 2024.Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround or known fix?Thanks in advance for any help!

Since the last Adobe InDesign update, my zoom shortcut (cmd + Shift + .) no longer works, while the zoom shortcut does. This is wasting my design time. Could someone please help me solve this problem? I'm still a beginner with the Adobe suite and I've tried to solve it myself by searching online and on forums, but I haven't been able to. Hello, I wondered if anyone could help me. I am quite new to Indesign and only just started learning the basics. I am creating a 30 page booklet that needs to be exported in both a print and digital format. Do I need to create 2 separate Indesign files for each format or can I work from just the one file and export the two different formats from that one file? Thanks

This seems to be a new problem, but I can’t seem to generate review links anymore. At first i thought it was one document in particular, but nothing I did could get it to work. It just says “Couldn’t create link. Try again later.”I’ve signed in and out, uninstalled and reinstalled, updated the program, saved it as a new document, I even exported the whole thing as JPEGS and placed over a hundred pages by hand. I had someone else try and they could not generate the link either.

Yesterday, I implemented some changes requested by my client in one of the projects. Today, I opened another project from the same client in order to make some changes. For my surprise, InDesign cannot see the fonts. Fonts that were OK yesterday, two days ago, three days ago. Each package contains the same font since all projects use the same template.So, I opened the project I was working yesterday. The fonts are fine. I restarted the computer. I opened the yesterday project. Everything is fine. I opened the project I am supposed to make corrections. Fonts are missing. I opened another project from the same client I worked three days ago. Hallo Community, seit einiger Zeit habe ich seit einiger Zeit Probleme mit Schriftarten in InDesign. Nach Adobe Programm-Updates werden in der Regel bei bestehenden und noch vor dem Update voll funktionsfähigen InDesign Dateien viele Schriften nicht mehr korrekt erkannt. Ich bin dann stets gezwungen, fehlende Schriften mit Kennung OTF erneut zu suchen und zu ersetzen. Das ist sehr störend und behindert mich in meiner täglichen Arbeit mit InDesign. Die bemängelten Schriften sind installiert - nur nach Updates werden viele Schriftarten (wie Segoe UI oder auch Calibri) mit der Kennung OTF angemeckert. Wird bei Updates die Schrift-Datenbank von Adobe InDesign beschädigt oder wo liegt das Problem? Wie gesagt: Dieses Phänomen wiederholt sich seit einiger Zeit nach jedem Update. Bitte diesen Fehler durch eine Anpassung der Software lösen. Hi everyone,I hope you can help me. InDesign keeps crashing on my laptop. It has always worked fine, but for the past two months I’ve been having constant problems.This is what happens:I work with both existing and new documents. As soon as I try to save them, I either get error code (2) or a message saying that InDesign cannot complete the request. After that, the program stops responding (I have to close it via Task Manager) or it crashes completely.I work on a Windows laptop and save files via OneDrive (this is required for work). I have already tried the following: Saving to a different location so the file path is not too long Using short file names Setting the recovery files to a different location Reinstalling the program Creating new files to check whether the issue is related to the original design Using only fonts that come with InDesign and no custom installed fonts Reinstalling my own fonts Creating a recovery file Saving as IDML and then editing/saving that

I’m trying to relink files in a document without updating them so I can review them 1 by 1.I have successfully used  .reinitLink() on a mac, but It won’t update the link status until I reopen the document. I have been able to test sucessfully with .relink, but I don’t want it to update automatically.Examplevar pathVar = "/FullPathToAsset/"app.activeDocument.links[0].reinitLink("file:"+pathVar)I tried using links[0].update() after reinitLinkBut nothing happens. Is there a way to check links after these updates are made?

I am in the LABORIOUS process of resurrecting a very old book document for reprint that used now-outdated fonts. What a nightmare, EVEN when Adobe has available modern fonts—and even ones of the same name! Like Adobe Garamond (c. 1990s) v. Adobe Garamond Pro today. SOOO much manual replacement required——global search and replace is not seeming to work in some cases, perhaps due to the fact the original doc was QuarkXPress and is being opened in InDesign (rather poorly, by the way).I’m now looking for replacements for Carta (symbols), Frutiger (Adobe, via foundry Linotype), and Optima (source unclear).??? 

HalloHabe ein transparentes PNG ( Farbe / Graustufen ). Dieses transparente PNG mit grau/schwarzem Inhalt möchte ich nun vor einer Hintergrundfarbe ebenfalls transparent platzieren.Der Hintergnd soll alsodurch das PNG zu 100% “durchscheinen” - bzw. das PNG soll den Hintergrund überdrucken.Habe unter Rahmen - Effekte - Transparenz nichts gefunden…Jemand ne Idee ?Danke,Gruß Ralf

I am having issues with InDesign 2025 constantly crashing. I even installed older versions in an effort to solve the problem. When I open the application, it freezes, and I have to force quit to close it. It is completely unusable. I have a new desktop computer running Windows 11, enough RAM and a high-speed internet connection. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Furthermore, I cannot download or open my creative cloud files. It simply says: "Download failed". Any ideas?

Is it possible to script the saving of all open InDesign documents, including those that require 'Converting' from one InDesign version to another, directly over their former versions.I often need to do this with large numbers of documents, and it seems that going from one document to the next when I have 20 open documents, clicking save, being offered the ability to save the document directly over itself because InDesign helpfully opens the save point of the source doc, clicking SAVE then clicking OK, then closing the document, and moving on to the next, one, well this looks like a clear case for automation.Given that I have my own version control and excellent backups, I don’t have to worry about overseeing every step in an operation like this (that’s to say, given that it’s a reliable script).

Share for review hasn’t been working for several days now. I’ve signed out and still doesn’t work after logging back in. I’ve also restarted my computer.
