InDesign

I have a problem where i insert a library item that consists of a group of tagged pageItems (3 textframes and 1 image).  When I do this the tagged items is created in the Root of the xml Structure and since the library item is a group (That is not taggable) 4 items are created in the root.  Now,  what i want it that the 4 items are instead inside a allready existing xml node in the structure, but how ever i do it I cant move them or lost for ideas on how to make them be placed there form the beginning.  Atm I have a xmlElement that contains a text that i will remove and instead place my library asset at the first insertion point of that text (I later remove the text). The library asset is placed in the correct place and all looks fine, but the elements in the asset is "tagged" as i described in the root of the xml structure.  I have tried untagging and using .markup to tag it again but i get error saying the element is not taggable. Hi guys, I am a newbie and and trying to using the great resources out there and not be needy, but this one is stumping me. I have created a table for a data merge.  Each cell contains some text as a heading (in this case "SUPER OBLATA") and then a data merge target underneath it.  Sometimes the table does not have data for that target so it is blank leaving the cell with the heading "SUPER OBLATA" and nothing underneath it.  I used AI to create a script to examine the first column, remove hidden spaces/breaks/characters, and then check if the cell contains exactly the header.  If found, delete the row. The problem is, that the script doesn't find any such rows even though there are many.  If I go into the cell, delete everything, and then type the term in with a bunch of spaces and breaks and rerun the script, it works fine. What gives? // Ensure a document is open if (app.documents.length > 0) { var doc = app.activeDocumen

Hi,  I am working on an InDesign document with several linked Illustrator files. Everything was working fine until last Friday, now I am trying to place a linked Illustrator file I get an empty rectangle (with the right ratio of the AI image, though). In the preview, the file also looks empty.  The curious thing is that this file was linked correctly a week ago, then I deleted and placed it again and had this problem ever since. Also, I tried and it doesn't happen with other files. Working on Windows 10, Illustrator 2024. All layers are visible when exporting and I tried different crop options in the Place menu.  I also tried saving the AI file again (keeping Create PDF Compatible File selected) and the problem persisted.  Thanks.

Another variable font and Indesign challenge: Changing weight on variable fonts seems to stop the ability to save and undo (they become greyed out).This happens with Tomato Grotesk and other variable fonts. There are so many issues with InDesign and variable fonts, yet Illustrator and Photoshop work fine...online design applications work fine...Figma works fine...why is it taking so long to sort these issues out when you have two product teams within your company that have eliminated the issues? Windows 10 / InDesign CS6Please help me recover my previous version if it can be done and/or let me know how to find the InDesign Recovery folder in Windows 10.What can you do when you accidentally close a document without saving, and then realise it was a mistake, but "File/Revert" is greyed out?  I seem to have lost one whole day's work (2 days ago, terminated by a power outage) - the changes were retained on opening up the document today, but when accidentally closed instead of saved (distracted by a phishing phone call at the time) ALL those changes from 2 days ago have gone - not just a few made today.File/Revert is grayed out, and I don't know where to find the  "InDesign Recovery folder contents" - location for Windows 10 is not listed at Recover documents if InDesign crashes or hangs and nothing comes up when I search for this folder. Hi guys,   I work with the WoodWing system in an environment that has been configured to work well with InCopy 2019 (14.0.2) and InDesign 2019 (14.0.3). However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find the installers through official channels. The last time I downloaded them was here in 2022 (it is no longer possible to download it):https://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2019-direct-download-links.html   However, as the download date of the installer I have is old, Mac won't let me proceed with the installation for security reasons.   Where could I find these installers (for both windows and macOS)?   We're already discussing upgrading to the latest version, not least so that we have access to new features, security and bug fixes, but in the meantime, we need to continue working with this version.   Tks in advance!   <Title renamed by MOD>

Since we updated to CC, I have a very good chance of this not working evey time I try it. Maybe 10% of the time, it will select the word/line as it should.  My prefs are identical for this feature as they have for the past several version of InDesign. We have the same problem on two Macs here.  My partner also has trouble with copy/paste in InDesign and Illustrator as well.     Anyone experiencing the same?   Message was edited by: bradboutwell - Typos     <Title renamed by MOD>

I am using Extended Script to create a dialog in InDesign. I’m reading data from a .csv file to get a list of names and for each name, checkboxes are created to let the user decide on some options in regard to each name before continuing with the script. Everything works perfectly fine in regard to the script, including the user’s choices with the options. However, given that all that clicking to check or uncheck checkboxes can be time-consuming and annoying, I would like to add buttons to my dialog that allow for toggling of all the checkboxes used for the same option for each name. I got the toggling logic done and it works like I want it to (which I know from the one version of this that works, see below) but I cannot get the dialog to actually show the changes made. When the user presses a button to toggle some checkbox groups, nothing happens. I use .update() on the dialog and I’ve also tried some other options such as moving the dialog, disabling and enabling it again,

I am updating my KIndle book...updates to the paperback are done. My first try on the INDD export to EPUB process was successful, but I don't like that it has justified the text margins. I recall that the designer, early on, showed me that version and I didn't like it. (Opening it in Apple Books, it looks fine--no justification.) He went back to work on a different solution. In closing out the project, they delivered individual PNG files, INDD files, and PDFs--warning me that their solution had been unusual. I think they created the ePUB files from the PNGs. Does this sound plausible? I have created PNGs of the 10 corrected pages and could work with those--but don't know how. Can someone direct me to a site with directions for this process? PNG to ePUB?? I am editing a book in ID and have a strange wrapping issue. Take the line...Let us by all means explore together!"and by chance the final double quote comes at the very end of the line or rather just beyond it. In that event it wraps by itself as a lone character. I can fix this by making a small change to the tracking for that line but surely that should not be necessary. I would expect together!"to be treated as one word and kept together. Is there an option in the para style that will fix this?

Really hoping someone can help as my inDesign is essentially useless right now. I have tried everything to get inDesign working since the upgrade but nothing is correcting this bug/issue. Since upgrading the interface just ignores almost every command. I can't select swatches, can't change font types, and many other bizarre things. I can make changes if I just click like 20 times in the same place but nothing is working as it should. I have tried everything from importing my settings from my other instance of iD, to completely uninstalling the program and reinstalling. Formatting newbie author, who, for some strange reason, hit the return key after EVERY SENTENCE. I just want to remove all those extra returns --ONE PER LINE--but leave the return that naturally goes at the end of the paragraph, which begins a new indented paragraph.I attach a screenshot of the situation I recreated with a chunk of text from one of my own books, so you can see what I mean. End of paragraph is, "you woke up"; "I fell," begins the next indented paragraph. Hard to see, since those other returns make everything indent. Anyway, I wondered if find/replacing beginning of paragraph with an asterisk (or hashtags) will allow me to find all of them after I somehow figure out how to remove all extra ones. Like a command, "Find and replace all hard returns, except when they precede an indented paragraph."

Howdy?I have a couple of completed manuscripts done in Indesign.I synced all my styles and chapters and made the books.All went well.However, I want to change or add some text to one of the chaptersand wonder if I have to re-sync for the changes to go through.I believe that is correct and the same process is used as the original syncing. Does this sound correct? Can anyone confirm that for me? Thanks

Hello, I am trying to align my text to the top of the frame, the lines are not aligned to the baseline grid, the text frame options were set to cap hight, but it still won't align. What am I misssing?   <Title renamed by MOD>  

I wonder if it is possible to create mini cells within a cell just to make a color of? How do you do this? See attached with the grey boxes filled under weeks of the month. 

InDesign becomes unresponsive and crashes ALL the time!!! It is my go-to program for my design documentation, but I am unable to complete a single presentation document without the software crashing at least once! I'm a Mac user and keep both my Mac and Creative Cloud apps up to date, has anyone else had similar problems?    I use a combination of image files (jpeg, png and pdf) and Adobe fonts in my documents.

I shared an Indesign file to a colleague who used the "replace text" function to make changes.Is it possible to add text replacements just by clicking a button in the "review" panel, and not by copying and pasting each piece of modification?Best regards,
