When I set narrow bullet indents, the second line always goes wonky and pushed far out. When I set it to higher values, they align nicely.Font is Georgia 6pts, with 7.2pt leading. When I choose any larger font size than 6, it also works. I have:No paragraph styles activated No cell styles activated No tab styles activatedI’d appreciate any advice on how to fix this. Thanks for your time.__________________________________ *I realized first line indent is not what I want either, so as you can see below, even with small tab position, the 2nd line gets pushed out:
Hi, why is my workspace when opening a indesing file always going back to 'Essenstial' setting? This is an issue I have for a year now.Very annoying.thnaks BAS <Titile renamed by MOD>
I have a catalogue that already includes quite a lot of sections (based on specific product groups) as such, I don’t want to force numbering by starting a new section, as this will affect my automatic numbering setup and mix up the sections for each product group already added. However, I want to add adverts in between certain pages on my catalogue without this affecting the page numbers of the rest of my pages. for exampe, page 1, page 2, Advert, Page 3. We are constantly adding pages and need the automatic numbering function, and referencing the page number off a separate list is also not an option. I see so many people with this exact same issue. Surely Adobe can add a “Exclude page from numbering” check box?
I created a numbered list Paragraph titled: Numbered List 1, the mode Start At 1. To be able to have this list continue numbering from 1 I duplicated the list, edited the Style Name: to Numbered List 1 Cont. and under Mode: I set it to: Continue from Previous. For some reason the next numbered list continues at 4, not 2. What could be causing this to happen? I have never had this issue with numbering before. Any help would be appreciated. Todd
I have selected an image that is embedded in a text box.I want to obtain the Y value of the anchor point and the X value of the left column line of the anchor point.
Hi everyone.I have selected all the content of the article and want to control the embedded images, so I need to obtain the text box where the images are located.Surprisingly, The parent of the character is “Story”, not “TextFrame”.And parentTextFrames [0] may not necessarily be the text box where the image is located, It refers to the first text box that appears to be the story.How can I get the current textFrame for 'story. allGraphics [i]'?Thank you.var d = app.documents[0];var item = d.selection[0]var story = item.parent;if (story.allGraphics.length > 0) { for (var i = 0; i < story.allGraphics.length; i++) { var curFrame = story.allGraphics[i].parent.parent.parentTextFrames[0]; alert(curFrame.constructor.name); }}
I've used InDesign for at least 15 years and until a few years ago it was great. But over the past few years it has gotten worse and worse in regard to crashing and just doing odd things. This has been my experience, first when I got a top of the line 2020 iMac with an M1 chip, and now with a brand new Mac Studio with an M2 Max chip, 64GB memory and Apple Studio monitor. The main issue is that it crashes on an almost daily basis. Fortunately I haven't lost a file yet, but it's still annoying. I've been on the phone with Adobe tech support a number of times, but despite removing the preferences, updating the OS and app version, etc, etc, any improvement lasts maybe a week. It also does weird things like defaults to a different workspace arrangement everytime I leave InDesign to momentarily work in another program. I've reset my preferred workspace (no docs open) numerous times. Occasionally things like text color or edits don't view properly. I have to toggle

I'm experiencing what appears to be a bug in InDesign for Windows (InDesign 21.4.1).After updating to InDesign 21.x, I can no longer drag selected text to another position. Here's what I've confirmed: Object frames can be dragged normally. Only text drag-and-drop is affected. This happens in multiple documents, including newly created ones. Resetting Preferences did not fix the issue. The most interesting part is that, on Master Pages, drag-and-drop works on the right-hand page, but does not work on the left-hand page. Another Japanese user reported exactly the same issue on the Adobe Community forum several months ago, and the discussion remains unresolved. Is this a known bug? Can anyone reproduce this issue on Windows? The issue started after updating to InDesign 21.x. After downgrading to InDesign 19.x, text drag-and-drop works normally again.I also contacted Adobe Support by phone, but the issue could not be resolved. *Here's the Japanese thread describing the same issue.
I've been exploring Adobe InDesign recently and was wondering what's the one feature or shortcut you use all the time? Is there an InDesign tip that completely changed the way you design layouts? Share your favourite tricks for beginners and professionals alike!
The latest version on InDesign was not working on our Windows 11 systems: it either wouldn’t launch or when using it, text will disappear in text boxes (even though it is still there) and the Undo action only performs one or two undos. Uninstalled and went back to InDesign version 20.5.1 which appeared to work fine until today: now I am having the same undo problem. Tested in a brand new document. It should be noted that coworkers with Macs are not having this issue.I saw a previous post that said this could be fixed by unchecking the GPU option in preferences, but that is NOT checked in mine (it is greyed out because it says it does not detect a compatible device). It is almost impossible to work knowing you only have one undo, please advise how to fix this!
Hi I am fairly new to InDesign and am trying to create a Table of Contents. I have created a Paragraph Style with Large text, in bold, callled 'Table of Contents Heading'. If I create some text using this paragraph style it shows exactly as I want. However, when I try to create a Table of Contents, and instruct InDesign to use this for the Title Style, it just shows a basic White Text. I have attached a couple of marked up screenshots showing the Table of Contents with the wrong Title Style and odd objects, and also a screen shot of the TOC Settings. The Green shows the Parapgraph Style in a normal Text Box, all Good. The Red shows the TOC Title which should look the same as the text circled in Green. The Orange shows items I have no idea where they have come from. Nothing I try makes any difference. If I double click into the Table of Contents and select the text, it states that it is in the Style I want, but the Font size and all other attributes are
Hi all - As noted, 100% black in ID turns into 91% in a PDF.This appears to be similar to this post - however, I haven’t found something that works, and am not sure what’s going on.Have there been any updates to the process here? Any troubleshooting tips?Maybe export to a different profile?[edit] Gray Gamma 2.2 seems to be ok - not sure why 100% black would be changing in other export profiles though… ?FWIW - we’re printing in black only. There’s an RGB image with an almost-black that’s converting properly. (I didn’t receive a profile...)thanks!
Hello,I’m working on setting up a document where I have 8” x 9” pages forming a 16” x 9” spread. I’m trying to set up a 5 column grid on my master spread that jumps the gutter, but I can only find ways to set the number of columns per PAGE, and not to set the margins for the spread. In essence, I need a 16” x 9” page with a 5 column grid, but I need to set it up using two 8” x 9” pages so it can be printed as a spread. I functionally need 2.5 columns per page to create the grid structure I am looking for, but InDesign doesn’t support fractional columns, either. Can anyone tell me if there is a clean way to achieve this? Thanks!
I’m working on designing a digital menu for a restaurant and want to make it more user-friendly and visually appealing. Are there any Adobe tools or best practices you recommend for optimizing the layout, typography, and images? Also, what’s the best way to ensure mobile responsiveness? For reference, I’m looking at examples like chipotlMenu.com and would love to hear suggestions on how to enhance similar designs.Looking forward to expert insights!
My Table of Contents generated in Indesign is not being read in the Read Out Loud function in Acrobat. The tagging structure within Acrobat all looks fine (<TOC>, <TOCI> etc.) and works when I disable the new Acrobat feature. This issue also applies to PDFs created previously, which again worked fine on the old version of Acrobat.I have also noticed other elements not being read also, as in alt text applied to inline figures and interactive forms.Any information at all would be helpful as I know my client will raise this issue.
I just updated InDesign CC and it is now highlighting text that doesn't follow an established paragraph style. How do I turn this feature off?
I uncheck "Open in Full Screen Mode" when exporting an interactive PDF, but Acrobat (and Reader) continue to tell me my PDF is trying to open in full screen. This document is for non-tech savvy people who are going to have trouble with extra clicks or changing Acrobat settings. What am I missing here?

All my books (several hundred) are formatted using the Times New Roman TTF font. The new version of InDesign 21.0 changes that to Times New Roman OTF.Fortunately, version 20.0 is still installed. I know from experience that strange things can happen in updates.. However, the problem with the latest update has also been introduced in that version.OTF is only available with a licence, which I do not have. I would appreciate some help.Cor van Wijgerden <Title renamed by MOD>
Using extendscript I want to insert a textFrame at the end of a table cell that contains several paragraphs. But this keeps throwing an error stating that this is not allowed for graphic type cells. But the cell is not a graphic type, as I already placed several paragraphs in it. And even after forcing the cell type to text the error remains: cell.cellType = CellTypeEnum.TEXT_TYPE_CELL; newFrame = cell.textFrames.add();Throws a runtime error as indicated. Is this a bug ?Running version 21.4.1.164
I was wondering if we are the only ones in the world experiencing this.6 workstations, each with different settings/customizations, yet all 6 have the same problem.InDesign starts showing the loading circle, as if it is doing something, and we are unable to select any object. Some parts of the application are still somewhat usable. We find ourselves restarting the app 10 times or more per day, and, of course, restarting the application is not as simple as pressing the "X" button in the top-right corner because it doesn't do anything. We need to open the Task Manager and force-close InDesign every time. We restart, and here we are: after a whopping 10 minutes of work, we need to restart the s***t application again. We've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, deleting all preferences and scripts, and installing it under another user account.
I have looked at the issues but the posts are 11 years old . I have tried to sort and it’s still happening. ANY ideas welcome. It’s something within resolution, double screen I THINK but i have tried multiple options. Any ideas?
I feel so complicated now. var d = app.activeDocument;var item = d.selection[0]; if (item.constructor.name == 'Rectangle' && 'TextFrame' == item.parent.parentTextFrames[0].constructor.name) { var curFrame = item.parent.parentTextFrames[0]; alert(curFrame); imgFitFrame(item, curFrame); }I feel so complicated now. When selecting an image, I want to get the text box where the image is located. But it's strange that when I select an image outside the box, there will be an error, and it should not have any response at this time.At this point, 'item. parent. parentTextFrames [0]' does not exist and prompts' illegal '. What should I do?
