Hi everyone,I’m trying to create a layout that includes: a base image, then a PNG (that is a vintage frame) that extends beyond the page margins, and finally a paper texture set to Multiply. The issue is that when I create a text box, I can see the box itself but not the text inside it. However, if I delete the PNG frame, the text becomes visible. Has anyone experienced the same problem or knows how to fix it? How can I make a text box independent from the underlying layers?
Ever since the update to 2026, my InDesign panels won't open on occassion. I have to quit InDesign and reopen to get the the panels to open. Anyone else experiencing this? (Windows 11 Pro)
In the links panel of ID, modified sources used to be indicated with a yellow dot (or was it triangle?) to the right, and double clicking the at link updated the source. Now that yellow dot/triangle is no longer showing when I modify source files. How to I get the links panel to show the yellow dot again for modified files? Thanks!I tried widening the links panel, but the yellow dot positively does not show.
Hi all,I haven't looked into tagged text before, I found a reference to tagged text here and it seems to be the most current one. (Still from CS4?!?)However, in looking at my tagged text (for a break character), I have "<cNextXChars:Box>" whereas the linked reference shows "Valid values include Column, Page, BoxBreak, OddPage, and EvenPage."Is there a newer reference available somewhere? Thanks
Never seen this before! (Didn't know it could)This is happening with a symbol font I made. As shown here, the symbol font seems to be pushing content outside of the text box.FUN FACT: The point size of the Indent to Here is 12.12pt. When changed to 12pt, the text outside the box (not sure what that's called... not overflow) goes away in this test document. However, there's no effect in the original doc, because it's already 12pt. However, if I make just the Indent to Here smaller, it seems to fix the issue.I guess I can just use Paragraph Styles, but... anyone know what causes this?thanks!
This issue just popped up today with a logo; the transparency on the file shows up as pink in typical display mode, but goes away in high-quality display mode. It looked like there was a fill at first. Have never seen this issue before. It is doing this with any transparency on placed PDF or Illustrator files.
Hello!I was able to successfully input automatic figure numbering using a defined list and the bullets and numbering paragraph style. It works perfectly in my test document. However, on the actual document I am using it on, it does not number them in order. So I'll start with the first figure and it's labeled correctly as Figure 1. But then, when I go to Figure 2, it suddenly becomes Figure 1 and the original Figure 1 becomes Figure 2. If I continue, even more figures are out of order in random ways.I hope that makes sense. I've included pictures of how I have my style set up:Thanks for any help/advice!
There seems to be a bug in InDesign 2025 (on some documents) when using opt+mouse wheel to zoom in/out. The bug is present in latest InDesign 2025 (20.5) and older versions of InDesign also. I am running a Mac Studio M2 Max. I have a document where I can reproduce this consistently.NB! If I create a new document from scratch, I am not able to reproduce the issue (at least when document contains no items). Steps to reproduce are:1. Hold space bar and use mouse to move document to the side and back a couple of times2. Move mouse cursor slightly. This is important - if you zoom without moving cursor after moving document - the bug does not trigger.3. Scroll in/out holding Opt key + using mouse wheel4. Observe that document is not redrawn according to zoom - but rulers on side of document changes which indicates that zoom is actually happening (but screen not redrawn)5. Let go of Opt key and move mouse slightly6. Observe that document is now redrawn according to current zoo
I just switched my InDesign installation from Czech to English via Creative Cloud (Preferences → Apps → Default install language → English) and discovered that all my presets, keyboard shortcuts, custom workspaces and panels are gone. Turns out InDesign stores every localization in a separate preferences folder (cs_CZ, en_US, etc.), so the English version simply ignores everything from the Czech one. That means switching the UI language is treated like installing a different app. I’m sorry, but this is absurd in 2025. Every other serious piece of software uses a shared user profile and just changes the UI language strings. Adobe’s approach breaks professional workflows and makes multilingual environments a nightmare. Can you please explain why this still works like it’s 2003?At the very least, there should be a migration option — or shared user data between languages.
Hello everyone, since the update, my workspace that I set up is no longer being saved and gets reset every time I restart. What could be the reason for this?
I am a writer and while I have Adobe everything, I use Vellum to format my ebooks and print books because it's just faster and easier. They just added a feature to their software to add forced-edge printing to print book formatting. Basically, it involved applying a .pdf file with the full bleed edge design and the Vellum software combines the files to make a book with printing on the outer edges, visible when the book is closed. I'm NOT talking about aftermarket fore-edge printing techniques; I'm talking about a .pdf file that adds small slices of the design to each edge during the printing process. This is becoming very popular now with POD books, and obviously it's doable. Someone cracked the code. There are a couple of online sites that will do it for a fee, and there are sites offering the actual design files ready to go, but those are pricey. (And I am both broke and stubborn.) I am not a programmer. However, what I "think" is happening is that there's a script or
I would like to see a "Delete Empty Text Boxes" option for InDesign to help clean up stray artifacts in a document. I think there was one ages ago, unless that was QuarkXpress!
Merci d'avance 🙂
For some reason, when I export PDFs, the spaces between words appear as rectangles with Xs in them. This has never happened before -- I've worked with this document a number of times and it's been fine. Don't know why this is happening now and nothing I do seems to work. I've tried changing the export preferences and replacing the font and it doesn't change. I have to export a clean PDF for approval ASAP. Please help!
Hi all, I have a catalogue design for a company where all the products info fields are edited as necessary in a spreadsheet. Whenever stocks/prices change these spreadsheets are edited by that department, I open the catalogue design .indd file and update the linked spreadsheets in the design with the 'modified links' prompt. This has been working brilliantly for a number of years now and keeps all the different departments happy with their roles in the updating process. I've opened the document this week and all the spreadsheet files are returning error symbols in the links panel. When I try to relink them, I recieve the error box "Cannot Place this file. No filter found for requested operation." The file types being linked are .xlsx files. I've tried opening the file in two versions of InDesign - Adobe InDesign CC 2019 (14.0.3) and Adobe InDesign 2020 (15.1.3) I've tried closing and relaunching and resaving the spreadsheets and turning the computer itself of
Is there a way to convert content that's been created via Data Merge to "standard" content?I removed the Data Source, but the hidden characters indicating Data Merged content are still there: Thanks
Hi everyone, I have a problem with InDesign. I need to compose some text in Japanese, but with the font loaded correctly, it doesn't display the ideograms. Thanks to anyone who can help me.
El color negro de CMYK que viene por defecto en el programa, sobreimprime siempre. En atributos no indica la sobreimpresión y tampoco deja modificarla. Alguna solución?
I was hoping ID 2020 would finally give me a much desired feature. But no, it still isn't there. Maybe someone has a solutiuon for my problem? I use a LOT of text frames with for instance one or two rounded corners. When a text frame is a regular regtangle you can set inset spacing for all sides but as soon as you make a corner rounded you only have ONE inset spacing option... which is driving me crazy because I use different inset spacing setting for all sides all the time... and now I have to make duplicates of all my text frames, remove the text from it, place it underneath the text frame, add a corner effect and then change the inset spacing of the original text frame... if you still know what I mean. Resizing these frames is a core... Is it really so hard to give us text frames with rounded corners and still an inset spacing option for all sides...? Why doesn't ID 2020 have this option? And how do you all solve this problem?
In InDesign, when all links in a document are missing, the workflow is very inefficient. Right now, I have to:1. Click the first missing link,2. .Shift-click the last one to select them all,3. Choose Relink to Folder…,4. .Then finally pick the correct folder. This should be possible in one step. Please add a small icon or button in the Links panel (or in the Missing Links dialog) that immediately opens the Relink to Folder dialog for all missing links at once. This would save a huge amount of repetitive clicking, especially in large documents.
Hello! I've been having issues with InDesign. The app will open, but when I try to create a new file or open an old one it crashes not just the app, but my entire display. The screen goes black with my mouse pointer still there and moving. I can't even CTL+ALT+DEL to get task manager up to force it to quit. I've updated everything I can, including the graphics display drivers. I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign. All of my other apps seem to work ok, but I really need InDesign for a project I'm working on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
To say I am a novice at InDesign would be to insult most novices. But I do put out a decent product knowing just what I need to know and bumbling my way through the rest.So today I am working and suddenly my tools palette disappears. I closed the program, waited a bit, and then restarted it. It is still missing. I rebooted my maching (Win7). No tools palette. I went back to another project hoping I did something on this project that made it disappear and it would show up elsewhere. Nope.I though that maybe it was just missing from my screen so I made the screen smaller (seeing lots of pages) hoping it had slid all the way to the left. Nope.Nothing I do seems to bring it back. Of course I first went into Windows and there it was checked. I unchecked it and shut down. Started up again and it had remained unchecked. I checked it and my page shifted a bit to the right but still no tolls palette. Can anyone help me?Thank
pdf to indesign (beat ) editable not working ?!
I'm having a problem with my published document here: https://indd.adobe.com/view/499aa923-8fed-445f-89ad-b20d537b7204. No one can download the PDF. A previous user here in the forums had the same problem and it was special characters in the URL. I don't put special characters in the name, but they are appearing on the error message URL as [working_document].pdf. It seems that InDesign adds this additional phrase to my URL (doc is named "2025 MBU Catalog"), and I don't know how to remove it.
