Sorry for such a long post! We are preparing in InDesign a small color booklet for children with some 70 pages of text and pictures of flowers; a few scans of small landscape paintings I have done. All these images have been edited in Photoshop, using adjustment layers, curves; some images are cut outs of the flowers on transparent backgrounds. We are working in sRGB and inserting them into InDesign at this point, as psd documents.We are totally newbies into this process experiencing many difficulties and setbacks, cry a lot when the button we click doesn't do what we expect, but keep on trying to learn and find answers from others and so eventually we take a few steps forward. Hallo zusammen,ich benötige dringend eine Lösung, wie ich unsere Pantone Hausfarbe nachträglich in einen von der Druckerei ausgerechneten Referenzwert (CMYK-Wert) erstetzen kann.Leider ist das Ersetzen des volltonwertes in Indesign nicht möglich, das Farbfeld kann nicht gelöscht werden, da die Funktion inaktiv ist.Daher suche ich weitere möglichkeiten. Kann eine Farbe auch nachträglich über Acrobat im PDF ersetzt werden? (Das wäre mir lieber, da auch die Volltonfarben in eingefügten Grafiken direkt ersetzt werden.) Vielen Dank und liebe Grüße

Hi everyone, I've always wondered why printers are so adament about black/grey text being only comprised of K. I mean I completely understand the reasoning behind it (registration) but do the same perils not apply to colored text? For example, green text. 

Several threads on Apple Discussions are describing problems with some display profiles after upgrading to Snow Leopard.  My own experience is as follows:I upgraded 2 machines, a 2007 MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz, and an early 2008 Mac Pro octo 2.8 GHz with Apple 30 inch Cinema Display.  I use the Eye1 Display2 hardware calibrator, and have been calibrating to Gamma 2.2 for years as recommended in the Adobe Photoshop Mac Forum.  The MacBook Pro has no issues with display profiles, and looks the same as before.  The Mac Pro, however, was a different story.  As soon as I upgraded, the display just looked wrong to me.  The screen lacked contrast and looked quite soft, almost blurry.  I immediately booted back into a clone of my old Leopard installation to check, and sure enough, there was that punchy contrast & solid color I'd grown accustomed to.  The comparison was run using the same profile on the same hardware.  Only difference was Snow Leopard

Hi, we are trying to get our entire workflow more streamlined in regards to color management, but are not quite there yet. So I have a couple questions to help make sure I'm going about it correctly and efficiently.In the past, we almost always created documents in InDesign using the default workspace - US Web Coated SWOP v2. And images were usually converted to this as well.We have begun to try to keep images as RGB now while editing/retouching, then converting a flattened version, after packaging, to the printer's supplied ICC profile. But still trying to figure out how best to deal with the InDesign file (which of course has the images placed in it). We send everything as InDesign files w/ fonts & links.- So InDesign files have always just used the default working space. Should I convert to the printer's ICC profile before sending out for proofing?- With the colors we've picked on this particular job, we've tried to limit it to 2 or 3 channels only (C+M, C+Y, C+M+K, etc.). Hello again!I'm still working on these childrens books, and here's where I'm at.I calibrated and profiled my monitor and the client's monitor.The client has been merrily filling in the black outlines of her drawings in Photoshop. She picks the CMYK swatch that looks good on her monitor and fills in the drawing.Now, I have on my computer a copy of her monitor profile. When I open her PSD images (which are in CMYK mode, with a generic coated SWOP profile), it seems to me that I should:(a) discard the attached profile, preserving the CMYK numbers(b) convert the image to the RGB profile of her monitor(c) convert the image to the CMYK profile of the printing press (or perhaps back to a generic CMYK profile, since we don't yet know where we're printing).Is this correct?Or perhaps, when I open her PSD images, I should(a) use the embedded profile (US Web coated SWOP)(b) convert to the destination profile of the printing pressAny guidance appreciated,Ariel

If I know a color's L*A*B values, is there a way I can easily located the nearest Pantone color?  I don't currently own any of the books but would buy one if there is one that provides this capability. Maybe it is just me, but I find their produce range bewildering.

If I create a B&W image from an RGB source is there a prefered destination profile that should be used? Equally if I create a B&W image from scratch is there a prefered profile. The destination is an Epson R2400. This question relates to RAW images which when processed in Lightroom and then opened in Photoshop are in the Prophoto colour space, regardless of whether they are RGB or B&W. The results are very good but does it make sense to have a B&W image with a Prophoto profile? What does the colour management process do with B&W images? Thxs Colin

Hi,I've used the Adobe Color App to select a brand palette with a new client; usually I use my Pantone Color Bridge swatch book.Logo development and supporting core elements all fine, however ...setting the right CMYK conversions has been a nightmare.Simply, the Adobe Color App CMYK specs for coated stock are totally different to both the hard copy Pantone Color Bridge Book and the Pantone website.Example here (Pantone site top left, Adobe Color bottom right screen grabs)..  So, what's going on here?Which source to trust?

Hi community, I read a lot about color management in this forum and I think I learnt a lot and got the basics now. But I still have some questions which some of the professionals here are hopefully able to answer. My environment: I'm using a HP DreamColor Z31x (100% sRGB, BT.709 and Adobe RGB, 99% DCI-P3, 80% BT.2020) which has a built in colorimeter (but can also be calibrated using e.g. i1Display Pro). There are a lot of presets in this display, e.g. sRGB, Adobe RGB, DCI P3 and a "native" one. Unfortunately all those presets are calibrated to 250 cd/m2, so I recalibrated some presets to 120 cd/m2 which is a lot better for my environment. So I now have sRGB, Adobe RGB and a "native" preset all calibrated to 120 cd/m2. I learnt that for proper color management to work I also have to assign a profile to the display in Windows preferences (matching the chosen preset). So I created an ICC profile for each of the presets, the internal (hardware) calibration of the display is

Hi all, the company I work for has recently purchased an i1Studio to calibrate our tools. It was purchased for several uses, but in my department (design) we had two goals for this tool. I have little knowledge of color management and before I start working on this project I'd like to get some expert opinions. We work with the colors established by our clients, usually Pantone Coated or TCX, in Illustrator to create our sketches. We use a lot of different mediums, like silk screen, embroidery, heat transfers, and we need to match them all as close as possible, and we figure this should start by looking at the right colors on our computer screens at the start. Our two goals are:1- Calibrate screens to match with each other - we are about 30 people in the departement with a bunch of different screens, and some of the colors chosen by our clients look vastly different going from computer to computer, so we'd like to establish some consistancies. I'm trying to add ICC profiles for my Canon Pixma Pro 100, but I don't have a ColorSync folder.How do I add this? Or am I missing something?

This question/comment is regarding Mac OS colorsync mistmatch with PS/LR rendering.Problem: Despite proper calibration and ICC profiles, rendering of shadows in quicklook/preview differs from PS/LR. My inclination is to trust PS/LR rendering, as the OS (I'm assuming Metal api) rendering of the same image (grey patch ramp from 1-40) crushes the blacks in the first row. A (naïve) question about color management for photo editing with photoshop (and lightroom) on   monitors that can be directly calibrated without a computer attached. I've spent a couple of hours consulting color management books, blogs, and google results but can't find an answer. Short version: If I select AdobeRGB on my monitor's menu, do I also need to create a monitor profile on my computer for AdobeRGB (using e.g. displaycal and a colorimeter)?  If so, do I create the monitor profile after running the monitor's own internal calibration of the AdobeRGB preset?If I want to see what an image might look like in an sRGB environment do I just select the monitor sRGB preset, or do I also need to load a monitor profile on the computer created for that colorspace? Or something else completely? Hi all,and Happy new YearBit of background first:I was helping out a lady yesterday with a Mac (Sierra) and Photoshop CS 2018 loaded. I have of course advised she update to the latest PS version. She'd processed a load of images and placed them into an InDesign file and it turned out some had no embedded icc profile.[and she's no idea how she managed to make that error]- the lack of profiles was causing printing issues on here Epson [colour washed out on untagged files] probably as she had Adobe RGB images placed into an sRGB InDesign file . Yeah, the InDesign colour settings were still on default, sRGB. Not any more.but even now there's no missing iCC profile detection in the "place" process so placed images [with no embedded profile] pick up "document RGB". Ideal for some workflows I guess, but a warning would be a nice option to haveI was trying to provide a simple tip so she could fully ensure that there WAS an embedded profile in each file before placing.Open in Photoshop - yeah t

Hoping someone has a quick fix for me - On the left you see the PDF I have created opened with Preview, this is also the colour which the document prints in and matches the RGB/CMKY/Pantone colour codes correctly.  On the right you see how I see the colours in Illustrator (Photoshop is the same) which is way off  - I obviously need to be working with the correct output colours displaying and nothing I do seems to rectify this issue...Thanks in advance!PS - working on a MacBook Air

I have been using pantone guides for inks and inks manufacturing - which is the most common pantone formula guide, however, when it comes down to packaging with corrugated paper and cardboard type paper, the dynamics seem to change and normal pantone shade cards seem to give different and inaccurate results. For example when I used pantone process blue C from the coated formula guide book, on cardboard paper I got a completely different product. It would be great to get some advice on which pantone color shade card to buy for such kind of brown packaging paper and how to match colors on different material surfaces. There is a list of pantone shade cards which was suggested to me by my designer.

I am a photographer, but honestly - color management isn't my strong suit. I don't print my stuff (yet) and I create mainly for the web, and therefore export everything in sRGB.Tech info: Win7 (64-bit), GeForce 760 GTX, EIZO CS 2730 monitor.I calibrated the monitor with the software that came with it (Color Navigator 6), and the hardware calibrator was i1 Display Pro. I tried calibrating and profiling with X-Rite's i1 Profiler and DisplayCal, but both gave inferior results (to my eye), and the EIZO support guys also said to ditch those and use CN6 instead. So that's what I did.My current workflow:I usually edit raw files and open them as ProPhoto RGB 16bits TIFF files, either via Lightroom or Camera Raw in Photoshop.I do this because I've learned that it's best to start with the widest possible color space before applying any edits, and then when you're done with your edits in that wide color space, compress everything to the output color space, which in my case is sRGB.Just to check,

I have been trying a lot to solve this problem. Every software showing the same desaturated image while importing. This is the Actual Image This is the image I am getting while importing to the mentioned software But when I export it from the software, I got the perfect picture. Inside the software its desaturated. I have tried everything including converting the color profile and all.  Could anyone help me out with this problem?

Hello,My colors in all adobe programs display way too dark. However it exports the proper color. It worked properly before but after an update it changed. Its driving me up the wall and I can't figure it out, I would love some help.Here is an example of what I mean.
