Questions

Every time I try to open Illustrator it runs the diagnostic test, saying that slicingAttributes.aip is missing. I didn't deleted that file, or altered Illustrator files. I run Illustrator on Windows 10

I have a problem with scatter brushes in particular. When I use them in my cloud document, it seems to work perfectly fine; i can also export to .png no problem. However, when I export to an .ai on my computer or as .pdf the brush get these weird artefacts like there is an outline drawn around each singular dot (see image). It's supposed to be all black. I was able to fix it once by re-colouring the lines and contours, but it just keeps re-appearing once I do anything else. I need to share this document with others so it's important that it works when exporting... Can anyone help me find the problem? Thanks in advance 🙂

I am baffled with how to do what should be a simple task. I find the answers on this forum on this topic incomplete - or mentioning Menu Choices [i.e. File>Automate>Batch] that I do not see in my software.I have a folder with AI images. I want to convert them to PNG. How do I do that? Does Adobe actually give this info somewhere - or does one have to rely on forums for this info.#baffled#frustrated

When I drag the 'Streetlamp' layer out of the 'Checkerboard' layer region, it suddenly becomes non-transparent. How is this possible? Is this magic?

Não consigo abrir um documento do illustrator que criei esta tarde, porque diz que o tenho de abrir na aplicação onde foi criado, embora eu esteja a usar o mesmo aplicativo e a mesma versão. Alguém sabe como resolver? 

Hi, For over 8 months now I have an illustrator file that has about 20 layers, and even though when I save it all layers are visible, when I re-open it, 10+ laters are not visible and the eye icon is turned off. Why is this happening, and how do I stop it from happening? Thanks,Alex

Salut la communauté !Ces derniers temps il m'arrive souvent qu'Illustrator ralentisse énormément ou même plante carrément. Cela m'est encore arrivé aujourd'hui alors que je créais une illustration pourtant pas si complexe. Je décompose mes formes à chaque fois car il me semble que c'est un peu mieux mais c'est quand même pas terrible. J'ai pourtant déjà réalisé des illustrations beaucoup plus complexes avec des effets de grain partout et je n'ai pas eu le problème. Je ne comprends pas d'où cela peut venir. J'avais déjà noté que cela arrivait parfois  aussi lorsque j'utilise le stylet ou quand j'utilise l'outil de création de motif.  Hier j'avais des problèmes avec le zoom et mon lasso faisait n'imprte quoi. Est-ce que ça pourrait venir d'une trop haute résolution du fichier par exemple ?  J'ai cherché des solutions sur internet mais j'ai peur de faire une bêtise...Si quelqu'un a une piste, je suis preneuse...

Had an issue with my selection tool not functioning when trying to move objects. Some posts here suggested reinstalling, so I did that and installed the latest version of AI. Still not working. I also tried the simple solution of pressing the Esc key to no avail. I have a lot of things going on on my computer right now between various projects. I closed my open Photoshop window, however, by going to File > Exit, and it worked. Leaving this here in case anyone in the future is Google-sleuthing around and has the same issue I did and doesn't think to try the obvious at first, haha. Unsure what the issue was. Have had both programs open simultaneously all day (using an older version of AI at first) with flawless functionality. Happened randomly after putting an Excel chart on my clipboard.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I just assumed that if I dragged and dropped a photoshop file into Illustrator that it would bring in all of it's layers as a minimum, and layer effects intact as a bonus.  But what I get is a flattened image, no layers, no effects.  Here is where it gets crazy.  I open the same Illustrator file in Affinity Designer. Then I drag and drop the same Photoshop file into the open Illustrator file and the whole thing comes in, layers and all, and the fx are are still live as well as layer multiply, pass through folders etc.  Am I to understand that Affinity Designer which I paid $49.00 for can handle a Photoshop file better than Adobe Illustrator?  I've been an Adobe user for like 30 years!  I was certain that this was possible but I hope at this point I'm just missing something. But if I am, it is still a failure that whatever I'm missing is not as simple as it is with Affinity Designer.  Well, there's 1 extra step in Affin

This is a silly problem but it bothers me.I'm using Illustrator CC 23.0.1 for Mac OS (10.14.1) and when I click the green button to maximize the document window, the upper and left edges are placed a bit under the toolbars.So I have to manually place it right like this each time. This can't be by design. Is it known? Any way to fix it for good?

Hi there. After an update 7 days ago (to V27.3.1), Illustrator won't launch. Instead, it freezes my system for about a minute before it lets me back in, but without Illustrator opening.  I'm wondering if anyone experiences the same problem and/or if Adobe is aware of this and looking into it. Thanks.

Hello, I am trying to make these letters I applied a bevel to not be pixelated around the edges. I have tried ray tracing as a vector, high quality, etc which creates the clean edges, but then I get these black lines around the letters and some inside the letter. I'm not sure how to get rid of them or how to not make that happen. How can I vectorize these letters so that all the edges are clean?

For context, I am using migrating from CorelDRAW to Illustrator to create vector drawings for use with a laser engraver. I noticed after a couple tests that every SVG being saved out of Illustrator is coming in at 75% size on my laser cutter. I double-checked this by saving a 10mm x 10mm box as an SVG in Illustrator and opening the SVG in CorelDRAW. It comes in at 7.5mm x 7.5mm.Settings in attached image: Illustrator on the left, CorelDRAW on the right. I think I have the settings as close to identical as I can considering the different options. How can I get my SVGs to save at the correct size in Illustrator?

Hola! Tengo un problema. Necesito exportar para traducción un archivo Illustrator que tiene texto e imágenes. El formato que admite memoq (la herramienta de traducción que utilizo) es el SVG, pero al exportar de Illustrator a SVG los textos no quedan todos bien. Algunos sí, pero muchos quedan palabras partidas, incluso letras de a una (de la misma palabra) y eso dificulta la traducción. ¿Se pude solucionar este tema y que las frases queden unidas?Muchas gracias desde ya

Hey smart people. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? When I try to relink multiple instances of the same (missing) file to my illustrator document, it used to be that I could select in the links palette all the links to the same file and then illustrator would bring up the link dialog box for every instance that I had selected. Although it wasn't automated, I only had to double click on the name of the file to link to, and it would cycle to the next one. Today I noticed that when I select mulitple links it only relinks one of them and I have to select each link separately. Am I missing something? Have they changed the way it works?  Please advise, thanks.

Hi! I kind of need urgent help because I have a client deadline quickly approaching. I have been working in illustrator on both my iPad and Mac, on the same file. I did a lot of drawings on my iPad in color, but then when I went to open up the file on my Mac to continue working, everything shows up only as outlines, with no color or stroke. But when I am looking at the file from the homepage, I can see the color in all my drawings. Also, when I try to edit the color of one of the outlines I can pick out a color, but it doesn't actually add any color. How do I fix this? I attached screenshots of what it looks like toggling in and out of Cmd-Y. 

I have multiple text boxes in my files. How can I find/extract the internal ID numbers of each text box used by Illutrator?

Hello, I am trying to add an insert/cut lines on a document that will have a spot to add their business card. How do I do this so that the printers know how to print/cut it? All I used was a pen tool to add the lines.  Thanks
