I am using Illustrator CC 2017. My ellipse tool has always allowed me to create a perfect circle by holding shift, clicking and pulling from the upper left and releasing in the lower right hand corner. Now, for some reason, my ellipse tool has an extra little icon next to it with a left arrow (see attachment) I am only able to pull shapes at an angle and the only way I can create a perfect circle is by reversing from upper right to lower left. I checked under preferences and the 'constrain to angle' option is set at zero, and I can't find any other way to find presets for the shape tool. I can not pull a 90 degree angle on a rectangle or square, everything is automatically sheared. help 😞 ?????

I am trying to flatten this image (or any other 1clr image or 1clr imported pdf) and I keep getting the 27 spot colors error.  The image is only 1 color and is the only thing in the file.  Is there something I am missing?  It used to work, but now it doesn't.  

I work a lot with lines in Illustrator and I'd like to know: when I have several lines rotated at different angles, how can I make all the lines horizontal or vertical at once?

I cleared my cache for After Effects as it was using ~100GB of disk space, and after I did this, most of my fonts are "missing" in Illustrator, but are available to use in Photoshop, InDesing, After Effects and Premiere Pro without any issues. I have had a long chat with ChatGPT and it guided me to many steps, and still nothing worked! Uninstalling and installing the fonts didn't work.Deleting font folders in Mac Library didn't work.Reinstalling the app and restarting the computer didn't work.Deleting caches didn't work.Manually resetting Illustrator app and preferences didn't work. These fonts aren't Adobe fonts, but downloaded from stock sites like Envato which I paid for. Does ayone know how to fix this and get Illustrator to show these fonts? 😞

Hola, estoy tratando de colocar imágenes png en el ilustrador, el tamaño original de estas es de 1080x1920px, pero, al pasarlas o colocarlas el programa me cambia las dimensiones. La persona que envía las imágenes hizo la prueba de abrirlas en otro ilustrador y todo bien, en ese caso sí respetó el tamaño de las mismas. Ayudaaaaaaa!

HiThe discretionary hyphen in illustrator v29.2.1 doesn't seem to work.It works fine in InDesign v20.0.1I'm writing in Icelandic and there's not a hyphenation system in place for that language, so I toggled the automatic hyphenation off.Is this a bug for Adobe to fix or am I doing something wrong?

Every now and then Illustrator will freeze and crash whenever I use the Object drop down menu up top. Does anyone else have this problem? It is extremely frustrating to lose progress like this.

 I have uninstalled the app and the same keeps happening, I can't start in safe mode,

*Repost because my pictures didn't upload correctly* I have tried for weeks now to find a solution to this and so far I've got nothing. I am exporting models out of Solidworks Composer as svg files but when I open them in Illustrator, there are no consistent lines or objects. All of the paths and curves are made up of tiny little lines or lines that have been broken up and segmented in weird spots. I then have to spend a painstaking amount of time essentially rebuilding the model in Illustrator by going along and joining all these paths together and closing that many gaps that are present. I have tried so many different settings from the Composer side to Illustrator side and have gotten nowhere. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious or there's a setting that I'm overlooking, but I would love some help understanding what I need to do differently to save a lot of time and headache.  I have attached a screenshot of my Solidworks Composer file and the export settings, as

Hi Recently when I am editing a vector smart from Photoshop, it opens in Illustrator. When i update the object it is applying registration/crop marks. Why is this happening all of a sudden and how can I change this? As it is also moving the placement of the artwork and not updating it true to size. It is posing a continual problem for me. Also it never used to happen so not sure if its an update or if i have a setting on somewhere that os incorrect?Thanks

If I copy a text box, then paste it, illustrator freezes for several seconds. This had gone away in recent updates, but now is back. Computer in windows 32 gb ram, recent CPU and graphic card. Any help will be appreciated!

Are there basic controls for some minor photo editing light lightening photos that are too dark or anything?  Not looking for anything as extensive as Photoshop, just a few basics

Got this weird window saying I have a problem with '砧 丸明Katura StdN' and Illustrator 2024 has to run in 'Safe Mode' what ever that is? I dont remembver opening this font. I did a search and its one of Adobes Fonts. I opened Adobe Fonts in my browser and thsi font was active. I've deactivated the font and then did a complete re-start of my mac. I then opened Ilustrator 2024 and got  the same window about this dodgy font. Anyone know what I can do to resolve this? Seems oidd that the issue is an Adobe font casuses an issue with Adobe Illustrator? 

Using the alt key to copy any object has stopped working. I click an object, then press alt key. The double triangle icon thing appears to indicate copy mode active.This indicates that it recognises the alt key. But when I release the object it does not copy. I've tried both alt keys but no difference. I've tried alt-drag and photoshop and that still works.I also noticed that a similar issue is happening with shift key. For example, if using the line tool or the rectangle tool. I press shift and it applies as you expect - eg a straight horizontal line. I keep shift key held down and release the mouse. But even though the key is down it ignore the shift key rule and just draws the line where I released the mouse and therefore on an angle. And a rectangle does not stay square and so on.My other programs on my computer still function as expected. Only happening with Illustrator - Version CC 22.0.1 (64-bit).Driving me crazy! Please help.

Hello everyone,I am developing a prepress automation script in Illustrator. The goal is to generate a color control bar that includes only the actual ink separations used in the document. Specifically, I want to include:Pure CMYK channels (for example, Cyan 100, Magenta 0, Yellow 0, Black 0)Spot Colors (Pantone or any user-defined spot)However, I do not want to include:Blended swatches or decorative color combinationsColors made by mixing CMYK values (unless they are 100 percent of one channel)The problem is that Illustrator scripting does not seem to provide access to the same ink separation information shown in the Separations Preview panel. When I scan all page items and analyze fill and stroke colors, I end up collecting mixed colors that are not true separations. I also tried using doc.printPreferences.inkList, but that returns undefined in my version of Illustrator.My question is: has anyone found a reliable way to extract only the real separations used for printing, just like wh

Illustrator keeps asking to relink every single missing link although they are all in the same folder. 

Hi, there is an intermittent bug I keep experiencing that relates to objects turned into guides. Steps to repro:New documentDraw rectangleRight+click (ensure object is selected), Select > Make GuidesWith Selection tool (Black arrow) selected, Alt+Drag the new guide object elsewhere on the canvas and release to create a duplicate.At this point confirm in the layers panel that there are two objects in the scene now.Undo your action - this should leave one object in the scene, as shown in the layer panel, but intermittently a 'copy' of the guide object will remain on the canvas, but it will be unselectable and not appear in the Layers palette.It will also be visible in the Outline view, but still be unselectable.The only way found to remove the duplicate(s) so far is to close and reopen the document.You may even be able to undo so many steps that the object used to create the guides is not longer in existence, but the duplicate guides still are. Obviously, this is not great f

I swear I had tools across the top of my menu yesterday...I am specifically looking for add nodes, delete etc. I googled this and there is discussion about a selecting 'control' under window, but I don't have that in 29.7.1

I am very confused.  I set up a 'base' file with a particular sized artboard and a grid.  Now when I open it up, it looks like the grid is part of the drawing to me.  In the background is a much larger grid. I have tried to manipulate the larger grid (by changing its color to red) and I am not able to. Can anyone tell me what I have done??

Hi everyone. This has been bugging me since I started my career. Is it at all possible to merge two outline strokes together? (See attached image). Since you can outline a singular stroke, I don't understand why there's no option (that I know of) to do the opposite. I've googled this problem a million different ways and most solutions involve blending the two together, offsetting the path, or rasterizing/image tracing. None of which provide results that look good or are quicker than tracing the inside with a pen tool. I've also tried finding plugins through Adobe CC and google, but have come up with nothing. Any info about possible solutions/plugins would be incredibly valuable.     Thanks!

Hi everyone,Basically I got a hundred business card to do with different names on it, and I was wondering how can I do that and export all in one click without creating a hundred of Artboards.So I'm looking for a script or something that can run for example  "New view 1" (created in menu View > New view) and export it to PDF, then run "New view 2" and export to PDF again, like the save layer comp to file export in Photoshop all automatically. I think it's an useful  feature that is missing in Illustrator.I did a little search on that to create a script but unfortunately I don't have time to learn how to script in Jvs. I was thinking about a script that execute shortcuts (that is assigned to all of my New views) and export artboards to PDF.I've found nothing on this subject on the web except a topic on this forum from 2013 without any answer,then If someone has an answer for that I'll be grateful, thanks

  Previous Behavior: When selecting a path with the Direct Select tool, handles were visible.Hovering over a handle would trigger snapping and display the “handle” label  without requiring the anchor point to be selected.I could snap handle-to-handle.I could draw guides from a handle using the Line tool, thanks to snapping.  Current Behavior: Handles no longer snap or display “handle” when hovered.Handle-to-handle snapping is gone.Drawing precise guides from handles is no longer possible.  Impact:This significantly reduces precision for technical illustration work and makes accurate line drawing more difficult. Request:Please restore the previous snapping and Smart Guide behavior for handles. The current implementation removes essential control.
