Hi. I have just completed a book of around 330 pages. I purchased subscription of Indesign and copied word document into Indesign. Things seems ok till now but now the biggest issue i sto have a nice format. I need suggestions for a non fiction book. Its a business book. What shoudl be the best font for the body text ? headlines ? sub headings etc ? Is Aerial a suitable font ? Shoudl I have the same font for all with different sizes ?
Trying to insert a second cover photo (in this case, the back cover photo) into my InDesign epub. It looks right in InDesign, but when I view it in the Kindle Previewer, it has been cropped and place at the top of the title page. (see attachments)Anybody know a fix for this?
Sorry. it seems to say to merge footnotes with the same content into one lineThere are many such cases, for example:[6] Originally cited in the original article.[7] Originally cited in the original article.[8] Originally cited in the original article. Need to merge the same on the same line. Like this:[6] [7] [8] [7] Originally cited in the original article. It's now possible to optimize it with a script:Convert the "superscripts" in the text to normal superscripts, and then delete the original superscripts? @Robert at ID-Tasker @Barb Binder
Hi, I've been researching this issue: when InDesign documents are set to the 'English UK' dictionary, it does not consider "z" words (ex. "compromize", "capitalization") misspelled because both "z" and "s" versions of the words are acceptable. However, since most English UK speakers/businesses prefer to use the "s" versions of these words, is there a way in InDesign to get around this issue and flag the "z" versions as incorrectly spelled? I know you can manually add/remove words in dictionaries, but there's too many different "z" words to add manually one by one. Maybe there's a GREP solution, but I've only found GREP solutions that call out 1 or more words that have a very similar type of spelling and this issue covers a broad spectrum of many different types of "z" spelled words. Is there maybe a different/custom English UK dictionary somewhere out there that can be loaded into InDesign to address this issue? Or another solution?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, tha
I am working on an article that includes Sanskrit text. I have tried two different Adobe Sanskrit fonts (Two Devanagari Sanskrit and Tiro Devangari Sanskrit). I have flowed the text from Word and converted the fonts. I have copied the text from a Plain Text document , pasted it in place, and converted the fonts. According to the widow of the author, in all these cases, the text becomes garbled and unreadable. Must I use a Unicode font instead? Why aren't the Adobe fonts simply converting the characters as they should? I hope others have had and solved this problem. <Title renamed by MOD>
All the examples I can find show how to find a table when you're already in one. But I need to be able to find the next table before or after the insertion point, even if it's sitting in regular text. Presumably I need to find the absolute index of the start (and end, maybe) of the table in the story and compare it to that of the insertion point, but something like the following doesn't seem to give an index in the entire story: var tables = story.tables; var nextTable; for (currTable = 0; currTable < tables.length; currTable++) { alert("currTable index: " + tables[currTable].cells[0].insertionPoints[0].index); if (tables[currTable].cells[0].insertionPoints[0].index > app.selection[0].index) { nextTable = tables[currTable]; alert("Table found.");
My goal is to translate the original file (.indd) from English to Japanese. My Python code successfully translates the text and updates the fonts and language. However, I am encountering an issue where the translated text overflows the text frames (i.e., overset text).Please advise if there’s any setting or attribute within the .idml file that can be updated using python code to automatically resize the text frame to fit the content.Both original InDesign (.idml) and the Python-processed .idml file are attached for your reference.
The style exists, and if I examine it with .name ==, it matches. But getByName does not. In the code below, it's getByName that's throwing an exception, but the part that raises the "style found" alert works: function styleTable(theTable){ var tableStyleName = "Section heading"; theTable.cells.everyItem().clearCellStyleOverrides(true); for(i = 0; i < app.activeDocument.tableStyles.length; i++) { if(app.activeDocument.tableStyles[i].name == tableStyleName) { alert("Style found"); } } try { var tableStyle = app.activeDocument.tableStyles.getByName(tableStyleName); theTable.appliedTableStyle = tableStyle; } catch(err) { alert("Table style " + tableS
I am at a total loss, I have created my design in InDesign, exported to PDF - looks perfect.Then when I come to print, it is printing black lines across the page which are in the same locations as some of my box outlines. I have tried exporting to png and printing and it is printing the lines in the exact same place. The most prominent line being around the rope image which has a transparent backgroundI have adjusted Transparency Flattening to High, I am exporting to PDF/X-4 as I have seen other people suggesting this. I have cleaned the print heads on my printer just in case. (it's a brand new inkjet printer) I am stuck now. I am really new to InDesign. Please help!
I've tried restarting InDesign, my computer, but the problem persists. I double-click a text box to select it, then try dragging and clicking to select some text, and instead of selecting the text it drags and moves the whole box. The text, IS still text and has not been converted to curves.I also can not resize a text box by clicking the corner handles.. trying to click and drag those resized the WHOLE BOX PROPORTIONALLY. So if I click a text frame to make it a bit taller (by clicking the middle bottom handle, the whole box resizes with the content. It's NOT a stuck modified key. No other programs are experiencing this weird behaviour.The text is most definitely not converted to shapes/curves. VIDEO ATTACHED.
I am having a problem with numbering. As there are multiple sets of numbers I have set the first number to start at 1 and set the rest of that group of numbers to be continuous. So far so good. BUT when I have a subset of numbering within that it all goes wrong. If you look at my example below (1), (2) and (3) are fine. I then have (a), (b), (c), (d) under point (3). They have come out fine using the same principle. HOWEVER when I try and continue the number list (using continuous) it comes out as 5 because it thinks it is following on from (a), (b), (c), (d). How do I get it to follow on from the numbers and not the letters? I have set up paragrap styles and (5) and (6) in the example below are the same paragraph setting as (2) & (3). Is the only way to resolve this by clicking on (5) and going to bullets and numbering and asking it to start at (4)? (1) ensuring that the parties are on an equal footing;(2) saving expense;(3) deal
Hi! I started working with a team and I have seen some unusual highlighting in indesign texts eversince. I'm aware of the highlighting that shows change in tracking, which is a darker green, but I can't say where this one is coming from. Please, does anyone have a clue about what it is and how to control it?
Generating an ePub file with InDesign 2025 that contains footnotes, and subsequently passing through ePub-Checker, Google Play, or Apple Books multiples errors with footnotes:• OEBPS/9781788946391.Xhtml:237, 664: Error while parsing file: attribute "target" not allowed here; expected attributeIf the same file is opened using ID 2024, there are no errors.I've created a very simple file with little text and one reference/footnote using ID 2025.
I am using InDesign 2021 & 2022. It is constantly "Not responding" using both versions. I can't get anything done. This has been going on for months. Since purchasing this iMac with the M1 chip. Actually I've been experiencing issues with InDesign since before this new iMac was purchased. I purchased it to try and stop the issues thinking it was the older Mac I had that was causing the problems. But that seems not to be the case.I open InDesign and then try to open a magazine file and it immedietly hangs up. Every click causes the spinning wheel to appear and then I get the "application not responding" message. I've restarted 3 times this moring and it is still happening. I really am hating Adobe right now.
I feel as if it exists.Or maybe there could be a snap button?But Alt+↓ Ctrl+↓ does have some special features.
recently my indesign 2025 (20.3.1) crashes more than usual. I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.7.6 (23H626) on Apple M1 Max 32gb ram.Is there any benefit in upgrading to macOS Sequoia?Could the benefits be offset by issues with other Adobe applications? thx <Title renamed by MOD>
I try to place TIFF images rendered from Blender and get the error "Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible."While this was no problem at all in all previous versions of Indesign (2022, 2021, …) version 2023 can't handle them anymore. Also opening files previously created with version 2022 containing those tiff's can be openend, however, I get errors trying to make pdf's and they show grey.Open them and resave in photoshop, without changing any settings, solves this issue, however, I have hundreds Indesign files containing much of those files. The TIFF's are saved with zip compression, since all others (LZW, No compression) gives me images where the transparency is shown black, so no option for me. In the future I can use other file formats for my render, but I would like to continue use my old TIFF's.I attached 1 example image. <Title renamed by MOD>
Indesign moves down text in exported PDF files.Please see screenshot attached.Numbers and weekdays (mo, di, mi, do) are inseparate text frames and different layers.Indesign 16.4 on iMac with Catalina. Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm trying to paste a large body of text into a series of connected text boxes, but half way through the copied text, it stops showing up. This is usually mid text box with more connected after the text stops. How can I fix this?
Hey, I am struggling to get my placed incopy file to update in indesign. I have tried restarting, updating, quitting. I have attached screenshots. The text box in Indesign shows a pencil with a line through. I have no locked objects or layers.Any ideas?
Hello there, first post to this communtity. I feel that it is long overdue and I'd like to publish my firt E-photo-book. I have installed a trial version of InDesign. I am a total novice and not quite sure where to start and a Google search etc just throws up so much info it's enough to make my brain explode. At a glance I'm thinking I need to be making EPUB format. But where to start with sizing, best resolution etc. I welcome your comments. Thank you! Karl.
Greetings! I'm using InDesign 20.0.1 on a Windows 11 desktop. I am intermittently having issues with text disappearing from text frames. There are no other objects on the page, just one text frame. The text appears as I type it, but when I deselect the frame the text disappears. I have checked that the Character and Paragraph Styles are set to None. Screen mode is Normal, Display Performance is Typical Display. This happens with "regular" Adobe fonts such as Arial, Minion Pro, Century Gothic, etc (no third-party fonts). Changing Stroke/Fill doesn't affect this. Thanx,Jay
