I have used parent pages since I started using InDesign 4 years ago. I made the latest software update today and am suddenly having this issue:   A-parent is applied to 4 pages (two spreads). A-parent consists of a running header on the top (left and right, centered), and page numbers on the bottom (left and right).   On the first spread, both headers and page numbers appear on the designed page. On the second spread, both page numbers appear, but only the right header appears.   The thumbnail overview clearly shows that the A-parent is applied to all four pages.   I tried substituting a copy of the A-parent to the page that is not showing the header. No difference. I also tried susbstituting the [None] parent. This works, but of course it's not the parent I need there.   I also tried creating an alternate A-parent, moving the header text to the bottom of the page, next to the page number. Hello everyone. I'm formatting a book with running heads for the chapters (created as a text variable). Some of the chapter titles require a forced line break to fit how I want. Originally, I left an extra space before the forced line break so the generated table of contents would look right (when checking "Remove forced line breaks"). I only just realized that adds an extra space in my running heads that I can't seem to get rid of. I searched for an answer, and either I don't know how to properly frame my question, or there's no good answer. A few search results (from 2018, I think—maybe earlier) directed me toward a dead link with a workaround (that others indicate doesn't work reliably—whatever it is). I'm just curious if there's a way to ignore forced line breaks in running heads when pulled from a source that might have them. Hello,I am having an embarrassing issue: an InDesign document has just vanished from my files.All I have left is the PDF created on March 12, 2025, in InDesign 20.2, as stated in the "Get Info" dialog in macOS. The filename is as I would expect and I usually—if not always—export PDF from InDesign using the same filename as the INDD. An initial search for the InDesign document showed it missing from the usual places where I would have saved it. Setting a Finder search window to filter for ALL .indd on my system returned no result for this document. Plugging in the TimeMachine backup and browsing in it again returned no result. I thought about having used the InDesign cloud documents for this but going to File > Open has "Cloud documents" greyed out. Logging into my Creative Cloud page and looking for the file there again left me lost.  What are my realistic options?I tried to import the PDF into InDesign directly but ... it's complicated. 

I did use our corporate font by activating it from Adobe Fonts. Now, I've bought a license and installed this font locally. That's because I also need to embed that font in Powerpoint presentations. That won't work with an activated Adobe font. I turned off Auto-activation and in the Creatove Cloud desktop app preferences disabled Adobe Fonts entirely. But still it shows up in InDesign instead of the local font. They have the same name, but I can see it in the info-panel for Find and replace fonts. Can I get rid of it any how?

I am using InDesign CC 2017 on a Mac with Sierra. I want to make an Index in a book I am making, and have a list of topics. But InDesign does not recognize the files with the list in all formats I have tried. I have done it in older versions of InDesign, but not able to do it now. The manual for InDesign just says select Impot Topics and the file with the topic. But I am not able to do it.

I have an index for which all of the numbers have increased by 2 in the middle of the book (page 336). The index was created manually, not using InDesign's built-in tools. The book is 848 pages long. I've been searching for a way to do this. However, I don't know scripting or GREP. I'm hoping that someone here may be able to help me with this. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, Please can someone help, is there a way of checking if a word has a hyperlink to a Text Anchor attached to it? I've written a script to give me a list of all the words that have a certain character style. What I'm trying to do is check each word for a hyperlink.I've been digging down on the properties of a word but as yet I've not found what I'm looking for.Thanks

Hi..A client has given me a word document converted from epub to word, to be typeset in indesign. The word document is a complete mess and there are random carriage returns inbetween sentences. This is making the sentences break in the middle. Is there any quick fix for this using grep? I'm able to find all the broken sentences using this find grep :  ^[a-z]. But to join them back I'm not sure what to put in the replace grep. So I'm having to manually delete the carriage return, add a space and join the sentence. Any help would be appreciated. Please find a picture attached. 

When attempting to export a PDF file from InDesign, I encounter an low res issue when the document contains a linked InDesign Document Cloud file.

Hi, in the past it was possible to customize the .mrk file so that when "page information" was checked, a custom text could be obtained in  the PDF. It seems that this file is no longer present in the latest CC versions. Is there a way to customize the text that is created when "page information" is checked? For example, removing the time or adding text next to the date, etc. Thanks!

Hi, I have a project that uses a lot of repeat elements, which I saved in an InDesign CC library. I redesigned the project last year and added lots of new assets to the CC library. When I opened the library today, all the newer files are missing - it appears to have reverted to a version of the library from over a year ago, before I created the redesign files. Is there any way to retrieve and re-add those assets? They are not visible in the InDesign library panel, nor in the project's library folder when I log in on Adobe.com. Many thanks!

When exporting HTML5 from InDesign, a popup appears titled "Export HTML5 Package." (As you can see in the photo attached0 Regardless of whether Export or Cancel is selected, the window behind the popup remains inaccessible.The popup "Export HTML5 Package" is prevents the ability to modify the Title, Description, or access the options under the Advanced button. So, Anyone find a way to close the "Export HTML5 Package" popup and regain access to the underlying window to enter the required information.

I've seen some scripts for deleting unused text frames and tried haphazardly to modify it to find and delete empty graphic frames instead with no success. Does anyone have any idea how this might be possible? I have very little knowledge in scripts, thank you in advance for your help!  Also, apologies if this is posted in the wrong place!

Hi everyoneI need a script to delete all empty graphics frames inside all tables of a multi page document.I've tested without success all that was included in the first post Delete empty graphics frames inside table  Anyone know how to rewrite those script so that all empty graphic frames from all tables are deleted?I've managed to work scripts to remove all the noise with an applescript with GREPs, to find a script to remove all empty lines, but my empty graphics frames prevent me from deleting my empty row.I've attached a example of the table that need to get rid of the empty graphic frame.I'm not that good at scripting, but I wanna learn, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Patrick

Hello,I'm encountering a critical issue with InDesign 2025 (version 20.3.0.60 on macOS 14.6.1). One of my .indd files causes the application to crash instantly upon opening.The file is essential and seems to be corrupted. I am exporting an 8.5x11 document (130 pages) to pdf. There are no bleeds. It is coming out as 9x11.5 in the pdf. I've never had this problem before. I tried exporting to Postscript, but that keeps turning the page from vertical to landscape, and I can't find options to change that in the export screen (all grayed out). Please help! Is this a glitch in the new (v 20.1) InDesign?

Hello Community, Can you put your tools in a custom order in Indesign 2023 (18.5.2)'s tool box? Unlike Photoshop's ability to easily customize the ORDER in which the tools appear, Indesign seems to only let you play with how the bar looks, not the SPECIFIC ORDER of the tools from top to bottom. On line and in this forum, there seems to be only instructions to toggle back and forth with vertical vs horizonla view—which is not the question I am hoping someone can let me know HOW to you put your specific tools in a specific custom order in Indesign 2023 (18.5.2)'s tool box.Many thanks & please do not tell me to double click on the double arrow to make the vertical and horizontal view option—that is not the question.

While page links work in v19.5.3, when exported to an ePub read by Apple Books on an iPad, the same export function in 20.3.1 leaves those links inactive.

El diseño de las maestras tiene márgenes de dos columnas, al agregar o quitar páginas, la caja útil queda desalineada. He intentado hacer estilos de objetos con desplazamientos especiales que en apariencia podrían ayudar a solucionar el problema, pero estoy segura de que debe haber una forma más eficiente y limpia de solucionarlo.¿Podrían ayudarme con esto? I've never seen this behavior in software before: Numbered lists in InDesign just continue incrementing their numbers, even when the list has been interrupted by some other kind of paragraph (which, in the vast majority of cases, means you are now in a new list). So... are we seriously doomed to the tedium of fixing the numbering on every first item of every list manually? And then, if we later want to add an item to the top of the list, we must not only set that entry to start at 1, but also go to the now-second entry and fix it so it isn't also #1?

In german-language there are special Characters called "Umlaute" (ü, ö, ä) or the "sharp s" (ß). If these characters are used in an vCard generated within the buildin function from indesign, they are replaced with other symbols on the iPhone QR-Code-Camera Reader. .   Do you know a good solution?

Hi! I've been working on an inDesign document for the last few months and took a couple weeks off. When I returned, inDesign had updated automatically and now my document will not open in this newer version. Are there any workarounds with this? Can I convert my older document to the newer version? Or revert back to the old version? I have it saved as both a pdf and indesign document. Please help 🙂 

Hi, Today I'm trying to convert PDF using Indesign beta as latest version InDesign beta able to convert PDF to InDesign. But when I try to open it from File > Open, the PDF is greyed out and I cant select it. Even I try enable from All Readable document to All document, nothing happened, and when I drag and drop directly to InDesign beta showing "Undefined Error" window. The PDF I try to opened was from InDesign, page less than 10 and connected to internet. Any idea what happened?

In the table context menu, there's "Distribute rows evenly," but that actually maximizes row height. Where's the opposite, to size each row to the text within it?
