Hello,I'm trying to extract the (x,y) coordinates and width and height of textboxes and images after exporting as XML or idml. When I export it as HTML I can see the style tag that contains the coordinates in pixels. Where can I find this information in the XML or extracted XML from idml? Example from html:style="position:absolute;top:28.8px;left:42.6px;"
HELP! (sorry for bad english)So i have been trying to export my indesign file to an epub reflowable, and it removes all blank spaces, line breaks and blank lines. I have looked up how to fix it and found a place that told me to use a paragraph style that had "space after" the places where i needed it.. so i did that... and it didnt work.. any other helpful tips? Im not good with indesign, i do not know ANYTHING about HTML or CSS so i feel very very lost.
I've a SVG file (heart shape) which I have imported in my project in Adobe Indesign.I need to change the color of the heart to a specific color so the presser will add foil on that specific place. How can I change the color of this heart object? When I change the color of the object, the entire box will get the color instead of just the heart shape, see image below.I tried adding a path to the existing heart but that is not exactly matching with the shapes and looks really messy. The desired result is having a heart shape in the foil color without the bounding box.
Description:Hi, I’m experiencing an issue with the latest version of InDesign running on an updated macOS. Here’s my setup:Mac Mini M1 - 8GB (latest macOS)Adobe InDesign (latest version)Synology DS1522+ (fully updated, Exos 8TB drives, Btrfs file system)Accessing NAS via SMB 3 (shared by 5 to 6 users)The problem occurs when a Mac user opens a project directly from the NAS using InDesign. At some point, the software crashes unexpectedly, and the file remains "locked," preventing reopening until the process is manually terminated in Activity Monitor or the Mac is restarted.Windows users do not experience this issue. Additionally, NAS performance decreases as more users access it.Has anyone encountered this issue or found a solution? Thanks!
I'm part of a design team with six designers and two copy editors. We use Workfront to manage our work and store files in progress. We often share work to balance the workload and cover for each other when someone is out. This requires designers to upload their InDesign files and all linked images to Workfront before taking a day off. However, designers often forget, causing delays or requiring us to contact them on their day off.I've been experimenting with saving InDesign Cloud documents. If we all save to the cloud and link the file in Workfront, designers wouldn't need to remember to upload their InDesign files. Additionally, it would be great if our copy editors could make edits directly to the InDesign Cloud files via InCopy, saving time in the workflow by not needing the designer to make every text edit.
I have several levels in my Contents, some with larger type. I want to make the dot leaders the same size for all levels, and smaller than the page number. In other words, I don't want the dot leader to really stand out, just be a guide for the eyes.In Nested Styles, I ask for None character style up to the tab characterI apply a Dot Leader character style up to digitsNone character style applied for digits. My dot leader will be smaller, but I've tried everything I can think of, but my page numbers end up the same size as the dot leader nested style. Also, sometimes for fun, I would like the dotleader to be a different colour, as well as unobtrusive.Love nested styles, but I wish it had more functions. Thank you
Share for Review is not working as it usally does. I have a document for a magazine I always work from. I can still share for review. But the comments will not show up under the ewview window. The one im sharing with can use the link that I send as usual. And then send me the link back once hes done. But this means I have to go to the link online and swap between a webpage and my indesign, which is a real pain in the ass when you are working on a 100 page magazine. Any suggestions as why this might happen? Thanks! <Title renamed by MOD>
When opening a file I received to proofread/edit, I see the message box: “This command would create a large number of page items and would severly degrade performance. Data will be placed as embedded EPS.” I don't know which command this is supposed to be or what to do about it. This already happened with several files (idml files I receive per mail). Sometimes, InDesign's performance just gets incredibly slow (I've already tried disabling preflight and reducing the display quality, to no avail), but, today, it won't even allow me to edit the file. Whatever I click or do, this same message box appears. This has been happening since I installed InDesign CS6 on a new computer (Windows10) - my third and and last installation of the software. I've seen that box on my Windows 7 notebook before, but it never affected the program's performance or hindered my work. It would be nice if someone could help me out 🙂 Thank you!
I cannot click anything. I have tried rebooting and opening an INDD file directly. Adobe, why.
Hi,I have a numbered list with indented step details in two places. After the indented step details, I want the numbers to continue. In my case, the continued number starts at the number 2. Can you tell me why this is happening? See the example attached. Thank you, Julianna
Greetings! In the Layers panel of Photoshop you can see what sort of adjustments, filters, etc. have been applied to each layer. The descriptions are indented below each layer. Is there something similar in InDesign? Thanx,Jay
Hey!In my book layout (print), I have a couple of QR codes. I was wondering what the best format is to import them into ID. Also, are there any things I should look out for to ensure they print successfully and work correctly? Thank you!
Not long after compiling 47 chapters into one file, I noticed the following unwanted behavior after going back and inserting an additional page spread in the middle:1. A few items newly placed on the pasteboard in subsequent chapters are now one spread off in sequence. 2. Running chapter footers (intended to appear after the initial spread of each ch., so I simply cover them with a white box on the first spread of each ch.) are also now visible, perhaps due to this sort of recollating. 3. On the page spread just before the newly inserted one, a pic with a bounding box set to 1 cm text wrap now pushes or covers the footer when moved close to it . Items with text wrap do not do this to running footers anywhere else in the doc.It may already be clear what's happening but this also might be related: on the pages panel, there's a new blue line or box showing up on the spread preceding the newly added spread:Thank you
After inserting row , those having differnt than exsisting format.if i fill colour the strokes are getting changed.
Is there a way to double-check if all text frames are in the same position without having to go through 200 pages? My first thought was to use the Preflight tool, but I can't seem to find an option for that. Am I missing something, or is there another way?Thank you!
I'm unable to launch InDesign 2025 on new iMac running on Sequoia 15.1. I have to Force Quit it and Photoshop 2025. Illustrator, Bridge and Acrobat. It was running very slow on previous iMac but it did run.
hi! so i’m currently editing a book in design with incopy assignments within it. i want to create a copy of the file to then share with my client via drop box. the issue i’m facing is that i would preferably want one copy on drop box and another locally on my laptop, and to do so seems to be problematic because of the icml links. i have exported all the content in the indesign doc as icml files so i can easily add them to assignments when needed, but now to create a copy, that copy is still linked to those original icml files. im wondering if it’s possible to “re-export” the content in the copy as icml files, or duplicate those icml files so they are almost like a separate set only used for the copy? if more context is needed let me know!
Not so much jumping into the deep end but going swimming with cement flippers with UXP, I try to create an alert in InDesign .injs: alert("hello!"); I get an alert of sorts...But not quite as friendly as I'd hoped. I can get around it by writing a bespoke alert function as mentioned in this recipe here. However... it says here that Since UXP v7.4, `alert()` can only be invoked in `plugin` via the featureFlags `enableAlerts`. Update your Manifest v5 with the following: so I've updated the manifest: { "id": "myUniqueId", "name": "Hello Worldplugin", "version": "0.0.1", "description": "Description goes here", "summary": "Summary goes here", "host": { "app": "XD", "minVersion": "13.0" }, "uiEntryPoints": [ { "type": "menu", "label": "Create Rectangle", "commandId": "createRectangle" } ], "featureFlags": { "enableAlerts": true } } based on the Developer Starter pr
I am setting up a book in Indesign using paragraph styles. My 'body text' paragraph style is set to Minion Variable Concept, Font Style Regular, Font size 12. However, whenever I apply 'body text' to a paragraph, it changes the style from 'Regular' to 'Semibold' or doesn't change anything. Below you can see the text selected shows up as 'body text' for the normal paragraph and the semi-bold paragraph. However, the 'clear formatting' option doesn't seem to be available. Highlighting manual overrides suggests that semibold is the set paragraph style, but the 'body text' style clearly shows it to be Regular text (not Semibold). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
Hi all, im trying to get a text frame placed through a script inDesign (multiple text frames)However when it places, it cant find the font family, and it wont change pt size, and is always overset... I have used chatgpt to help me but im hitting a wall now and pulling my hair out...Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? (apart from using chatgpt...)I have run a script to identify the font, but no matter what combination of words, tabs, spaces it just cant locate it.Thanks in advanced! // Extract parts of the document name var docName = app.activeDocument.name.replace(/\.[^\.]+$/, ""); // Remove file extension var parts = docName.split("_"); // Ensure we have enough parts var firstPart = parts[0] || ""; var secondPart = parts[1] || ""; // Function to add text frames in InDesign function addTextFrame(contents, xPos, yPos) { var page = app.activeDocument.pages[0]; // Use the first page var textFrame = page.textFrames.add(); textFrame.contents = contents; //
Windows 11, last version of Indesign.I have set the image description style as follows: before text insert Abb. ^# - , continue from the number before. See picture. The prompt is recognized, but the numbering does not work (see picture), with 2024 it did :-((((Any idea?
I applied for the InDesign debug version a year ago, but even after a year, it is still in this state, and the button has always been in this state, and I cannot reapply. What could be the reason?
I am hoping this can get done through a paragraph style.I want to set up a style so that the first paragraph is not indented, but every paragraph that follows it will have the first line indented. Is this even possible to set up in a paragraph style? If so can someone point me in the right direction.
Hello everyone!I used the Ken Lunde Tutorial to change my InDesign with japanese functionality. I speak Spanish, but I had to change all my iOS UI in english (and my InDesign) in order to avoid any trouble with compatibility. I got to say it works perfect this way. With this tweak, I found a whole new world to discover and understand. In CJK everything works so differently than in Western style that sometimes it bring me new challenges. Because of this, I'm experiencing problems when I need to create paragraphs in Latin text and here is the thing:When I compose a paragraph, the auto-leading in japanese is way different than the auto-leading in western paragraphs. For example:In Japanese Text: Myriad Pro Regular 12 pt. has 21 pt. of leading (way bigger!)In Latin Text: Myriad Pro Regular 12 pt. has 14,4 pt. of leading. I wish I found something to change the default setting, but I can't. I just can change this manually, but every time I change the font size I got to change the leading
InDesign suddenly stopped printing in RGB; instead the entire document is printing in a strange greenish grey ; now it is grey scale. I have selected RGB output. This started soon after I tried multiple times to print a double sided document; the color was fine but the position was not. Then it turned into monochrome. I saved it as a PDF and printed from Acrobat; it prints grey. Photoshop prints correctly.
