With the advent of MOGRT, Essential Graphics and templated AE tools, there is a need to have more data exposed surrounding AE's "Point text" and "Box text" layers that the current sourceRectAtTime does not provide. Having more typographic bound data exposed would be extremely useful for procedurally aligning type. The main issue that one might encounter is ascenders and descenders influencing the sourceRectAtTime dimensions, which is a typographic no-no if using these properties to align type to just about anything. Currently, sourceRectAtTime only has an option "includeExtents" which returns a Box text's (paragraph) bounding box. This is a good start, but there are some other things that would be extremely helpful! Additional optional parameters for sourceRectAtTime might be: 1) typeBounds (Bool) (optional)- sourceRectAtTime.top and sourceRectAtTime.height would be calculated from the topmost capheight to the bottommost baseline. The key is ignoring ascenders
When prepping files for other users, or working on files from other AE artists, a folder full of null objects is simply a “mess on the floor” we could really do without. I recently had a project come in to get cleaned up that had HUNDREDS of nulls. If the nulls were simply shape voids, they wouldn’t even be in the project manager and would really tidy up the project and reduce the risk of a link being broken by someone along the pipeline accidentally cleaning up too much in the project manager. alternatively, an option to ‘hide nulls in project manager’ would nearly achieve the same effect. please.and thank you.
When creating series of graphics, it is nice to check the number of e.g. created Comps. It would be nice if After Effects shows the number of selected items in the upper left of the project panel.
Every time I want to see the Script List under the Window Menu I run into the anoying issue to scroll down to them. The length of that Menu can be very long depending on the comps that are open. And scrolling is slow and only works by clicking on the down arrow. That menu doesn't move when I scroll my mouse wheel (Windows). Apparently on mac it does.I suggest having a side menu like the Extensions menu. (see screenshot). As I discussed this with the community a few useful tips came out of it:(Kyle Harter) With the new Quick Apply one can launch every script .Or Kbar can do that too. (Rob Barrett) One can also start typing the name of the script with the Windows menu open, and the selection will jump to that item. Typing “T” several times will cycle through all entries beginning with “T”.These tips help! However if you don’t remember the name of the script and want to see the list, the old problem stays.A Script Sidemenu would be an easy fix.Thank you for considering this!
It would be great if Audio Loudness can be added as an effect on to an Adjustment layer, and this would control the loudness of the composition’s loudness as a whole.Rendered videos frequently need to conform to a specific level like -23 LUFS, and this requires correcting the audio separately in Audition and re-importing the loudness-corrected audio.
When I open an Illustrator (.ai) file in After Effects (Import → Composition), any artwork that sits outside the composition frame is automatically turned transparent/alpha-clipped. I intentionally leave a margin around elements in Illustrator so that when they move the edges don’t show seams — but After Effects is making those outer areas transparent, which causes visible gaps during animation.Steps to reproduce Create artwork in Illustrator that extends beyond the intended comp size (leave a margin around the visible area). Save as .ai and import into After Effects as Composition. Open the composition: artwork outside the comp frame appears transparent (alpha) instead of preserved. Expected behaviorArtwork outside the comp bounds should remain opaque (preserved) so the margin stays visible when elements move.QuestionIs there a setting or recommended import workflow to prevent After Effects from automatically making those outer areas transparent? Any workaround or explanation of w
Feature Request: Native OpenEXR Embedded Matte Support in After EffectsAs a VFX compositor, I'd love to see native support for embedding custom matte or utility channels directly into OpenEXR files exported from After Effects.Currently, we have to render separate files for the beauty pass, mattes, and other utility passes. This increases render time, storage usage, file management, and the chance of delivery errors.Supporting embedded matte channels in a single OpenEXR file would make After Effects much more efficient for professional VFX, DI (Digital Intermediate), and post-production pipelines. It would also improve compatibility with industry-standard OpenEXR workflows used in film, television, OTT, and commercial production.Benefits:Export beauty and embedded mattes in a single OpenEXR file. Reduce the number of rendered files. Simplify file management and deliveries. Improve compatibility with professional VFX and DI pipelines. Bring After Effects closer to industry-standard OpenE
We want to hear your ideas about how we can improve After Effects. Your opinion is very important to us and the ideas provided here regularly appear in future versions. When posting an idea, here are a couple of things to keep in mind: How will the idea help your workflow? You're the expert on your workflow, so tell us how your idea would improve your workflow. What problem are you having today that the idea could solve? That helps us understand your idea better. It also makes it easier for us to follow up with you to get more info on your idea. One idea per thread If you've got two (or more!) ideas, make each of them a separate thread. Doing this will allow others to vote on a single, specific idea and not confuse up-votes amongst a list of feature requests. Enlist support! If you feel strongly about a feature, and you know other people do too, get them to vote on it.
In many motion graphics occasions (games, scores, clocks), it is essential to have numbers to be monospaced, to avoid ‘m from jumping positions all the time. Please make this a feature for Text layers - a switch to make any text/font monospaced.
Adding effects to a PreComp that should relate to time in the main comp is hard when Time Remapping is involved. Please make Ae to take Time Remapping into account when jumping from the PreComp to the main comp, so the CTI is on the right frame (or the closest frame possible).
The algorithm surprises in not recognizing human shapes, even when a lot of reference frames are given and a layer with rotoscoped people is layer on top of the holes to be filled.
You know what AE, you need to step up your game if you want to be irreplaceable. Copy CapCut. Add automatic subtitles based off of VoiceOvers and have lots of preset styles that people can choose. Companies don’t want programs that slow down the workflow. My company ditched AE for CapCut bec things are way faster. Well if you don’t want to be the next Nokia or Kodak. Adapt. I love AE!!! Don’t get me wrong.
Dear Community,Dear After Effects Team @Adobe Why is there still no way to group layers without pre-composing within a single composition?I imagine it to function just like groups in Photoshop, where you expand a group to reveal all layers within. This will open up entirely new workflows. I came across a plugin created by Petter Bergmar called "FoldLayers": https://vimeo.com/121569449Is it really this complicated to natively implement such a functionality into After Effects? Can wait to receive aducated reponses.Kind regards
I find myself tweaking some effects over and over in the same way. Yeah, we can save an ‘Animation Preset’ (a confusing name). But I would like to have a simple button to set the current status of an effect to be default, so the next time I apply it, it will be automatically featuring these settings
After Effects. Let’s get a better option for selecting a Track Matte or Parent Layer. When you’re working with hundreds of layers and need layer 150 to be parented to layer 5, having to press that little arrow to scroll one layer at a time is maddening. Dragging to pickwhip to quick scroll the layers is imprecise at best. At least let the mouse scroll wheel control the scrolling of the layers list so we can zoom through it. This frustrates me nearly every day. You can do it!
When I'm tidying up my project window, I select some elements form the list of it (for example all the imported footage) then i press on the "create new folder" icon and I loose the selection. So I have to re-select all the elements form the list and drag it into the new folder which is annoying. This happens to me every time! When creating a new folder, I would love if after effects would notice that a bunch of stuff is already selected in the project window and put it all in the new folder. What do you think?
As of right now, you can only collaborate on projects in the same language, since the expressions break after the language is changed due to effects like sliders being renamed and after effects don’t find them any more. This is frustrating, when frequently working with projects in different languages, since the language has to be changed every time. and some teammembers prefer to not have their language set to english.give the option to reference not the display names of effects, but the original ones. Honestly the way it should have implemented from the beginning.
After effects has a Extrude modeling tool already that helps to extrude texts and shapes.I have used it to model simple things. If After effects can also have Lathe feature so we can do simple spline modeling by lathing the pen shapes it will be an aded 3D feature.
After Effects In-App Spell Check and Misspelling Correction for Text Layers: Feature SummaryPlease add a built-in spell-checking and misspelling correction system to Adobe After Effects for text layers. After Effects is frequently used to create title sequences, advertisements, social media content, lower thirds, presentations, and motion graphics containing large amounts of text. However, there is currently no convenient way to identify spelling mistakes directly inside the application.Proposed FunctionalityThe feature could automatically detect misspelled words inside text layers and provide:A colored underline beneath possible misspellings Right-click spelling suggestions One-click word replacement “Ignore,” “Ignore All,” and “Add to Dictionary” options Support for multiple languages The ability to enable or disable spell checking A project-wide spelling review panel The option to scan all compositions and text layers for errorsWhy This Feature Is NeededSpelling mistakes in motion gr
DEACTIVATE THE SHORT CUT FOR RENDER/NOT RENDER IN CAPS LOCK!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!! OR GIVE ME A WAY TO DEACTIVATE IT. WHEN ANIMATING TEXT IT’S A NIGHTMARE!! PLEASEEEEE!!!
I'm not asking to run MAC/PC After Effects as a native app on an iPad because that would be too much, nor am I asking to be able to use AE by screen-mirroring your Mac or PC to the iPad. Instead, I'm asking if it can be ported, reprogrammed, or repackaged as a condensed mobile app version that works on the iPad similarly to Illustrator, Adobe Fresco, and Photoshop. Given the ever-increasing need for moving images or motion pictures in today's environment, it becomes imperative to be impulsive in meeting these needs when you consider the accessibility and ease of doing so. WORK-ON-THE-GO is always a possibility, thus I'm employing Adobe to consider this as many pro apps are already porting to the iPad.
Would it be possible to have a mini player o the user can scrub and play through animation without returning to the timeline?
A shake ( camera wobble shake thing ) is currently carried by Third-Party Plugins, Such as like Boris FX Sapphire, they have an effect called ‘’S_Shake’’ and Videocopilot got one called ‘’ Twitch ‘’ BUT. The only built in way to really make a shake is Wiggle Expressions which are hiden for most of the After effects users or you could do hundreds of position keyframes which nobody really wants to do. So, that’s EXACTLY why a built-in camera shake effect would be PERFECT.
For returning projects, it would be be nice when Freeze files could be stored outside the cache folders, in a user chosen project folder. This prevents from pre-rendering Freeze files when the caches are cleared (which is necessary once in a while).
When the save popup box appears in AE, and you click “don’t save” by accident, you lose your work. Having a failsafe would be much appreciated!
