After Effects

In Premiere Pro, you have the option to "step/forward back" by any amount of "many frames" that you want, which is great. I can't find this setting in After Effects. Just wondering why that is. Since AE is dedicated to visual effects and animation, surely there must be a setting that allows you to change the default move forward/back 10 frames to whatever number you wish, like in Premiere??? If not, is there some third party plugin that allows you to change that setting? For anyone who works in 24fps and 12 fps projects, it would be ideal to be able to set the "move by many frames" number by say 24, or 12, or 8, or 4 frames.   

HI all,In After Effects...I have a masked out image of a red balloon.The balloon is the only object in the layer. I placed that ballon layer in a comp, scene is a park.Now I have a park, with a red balloon on the grass.Now...I double click on the balloon layer, and use the Paint brush (or clone stamp) ...I then manually paint the border outline of the ballon with white, I notice that the white paint spills into the main comp image of the park.   Now I have a balloon with sloppy white around it's edges that spills into the grass. Is there a way to paint or clone stamp the balloon layer and stay within the outline edges of the balloon layer? I hope I asked that right. So I just bought after effects on my Mac Air and the program has been running smoothly with no issue until I went to export my video. After rendering my video to QuickTime it's in slow motion, as well as the audio. Ive tried turning town resolution and quality but it doesn't make a difference. Ive also tried rendering trough media encounter but the same thing happens. Something that I have noticed is that the video in slow motion somehow has the same time span as in after effects which is a little strange because wouldn't it be significant longer after being slowed down? I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my settings or if it's an issue with QuickTime but I would be so grateful for any help I can get.

Hi, I am noticing something a bit odd that I can't figure out. I have 25 fps mp4. It is 804 frames. In AE I rotobrushed it and rendered an 804 frame EXR sequence. I also rendered the original mp4 as EXR sequence.  I am just experimenting, triyng to confirm that I can solve a camera, use that solve, then add a rotobrushed image sequence to then apply compositing later on (adding object in footage to 3d environment). In blender, if I have the original sequence play as camera background, then you can see that the cat is lined up with the red line. All is well. But if I then use the rotobrushed img sequence as the camera background, notice how the cat is sliding all over the place, especially at the beginning. In the attachments I have the playback in AE of the rotobrushed scene.  As well as playback in blender showing the disparity. I can't figure out how to account for what I am observing and what might be causing it. Ideas? thanks

Hi Community. Is there any theoretical method to see where the glowing fx bleed actually finishes when applied to an object?  I sometimes export an image, be it a shape, or an imagine with applied Glow Fx to it, and when I import it in another editing software, I can see sudden hard edges from the glow. Sometimes even masking and feathering, I still get hard edges.  In order to counter this problem, I usually export larger compositions boundaries to avoid hard edges, but is there another method the industry uses around this problem Im facing? Thank you.   

Hey, there. I use AE on my Dell XPS 15 9510 laptop. Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz, 2304 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s) with 64GB of RAM.  Ever since updating to AE 24, I have been experiencing the same exact problem over and over again. Every single time I open after effects, my preview works fine for a few minutes, and then all of a sudden the preview line freezes and only the green cache bar above runs. Everything else in the program works completely normally, but whatever I do, I cannot preview. The only thing fixing it is closing and reopening the program, and then, after a few minutes, repeating the cycle as the preview would inevitably freeze again . I have already tried all the typical solutions: cleaning up the disc cache, purging everything, looking for any new uninstalled drivers , etc. After a deeper dive i found out the issue might be something with the Audio hardware . I tried changing that in the preffrenc

Why if i'm writing anything in small caps then why it's showing in small capital letters?

Hi guys !Today I'm having a quite tedious task to achieve, which is to remove a chainlink fence on a video that we shot a few days ago. I must confess that I never did such a thing, and that despite watching over google and searching for tutorials, nothing conclusive came to me.Therefore I'd like to ask for ideas, thoughts or even if anybody could point me in the way to achieve that removal, it'll be amazing !! Hi!I haven't used AE in a while and I have an issue with sound/music.I'm using MP3 files that play fine outside of AE, but in the software some files plays weirdly, some just don't play at all (when I'm checking on my composition there is nothing in the "signal" section) and some play just fine? I'm using an old version of the software (AE CC 2018)Thank you

I am facing an issue while exporting an animation created using the Puppet Tool in After Effects to JSON format. Despite my efforts, the exported JSON file doesn't seem to retain the Puppet Tool effects. I've tried adjusting export settings and troubleshooting, but haven't found a solution yet. I set the after effects program to default, but i can't see a graph when i go on the graph editor. Both selected properties and graph editor set are selected, but I still can't see anything :(. Got the 2020 version.

Hi, I am rotobrushing out an object from a video that is 25 fps and contains 804 frames. I have specified in AE that time display be frames with first frame starting at 0.  In composition view timeline shows 0 as first frame and 803 as last.  That is what I expect. But when I freeze rotobrush it says 1 of 805, 2 of 805, etc. I just want to make sure AE isn't doing something that is going to result in my img sequence being out of sync with my subsequent camera solve animation. I have solved camera in SynthEyes, and it shows start frame 0, end frame 803.  Should I just ignore what the Rotobrush freeze is showing? thanks

Hi,Question: can this be done faster? I have 20 compositions with 1 idential layer in all of them.I want to move this identical layer on the timeline in all compositions.I can open up each composition and move the layer on the timeline. But this is anoying, when the move action is the same in each composition. But maybe there is a faster way?  Sort of "master properties", but then for moving layers on timeline.

I have a very peculiar problem with text in after effects. I have text layers with text that I wish to edit. Has been working just fine for a week but this morning, after effects decided not to accept changes to existing text or to type text in a new text layer. If I try to select a section of the text it immediately jumps to selecting the whole text layer and I cannot change the content. I can change the size, the spacing, etc. If I try to type new text, it creates an empty text layer wihtout content - in the layer overview next to the timeline it just says "empty textlayer". Same if I try to open up a text layer by pulling it with the title tool activated (sorry, English is not my first language).  To make it even stranger: I can select a section of the text, force the selection to stay selected by not releasing the mouse button, and type my changes. When I release the mouse, the text will show up changed. That does not seem to be the most efficient way to edit my text

Hello, I updated to the most recent Affect Effects 24.2.1, and now it barely opens projects; I can't pre-render projects, and I also can't get anything to upload to the encoder. I am working on a Windows 11 operating system. Does anyone have any ideas why it's not working?

Hey everyone,I'm trying to find a way to modify the animation preset called "Exchange", and having some trouble. This preset is found under Animation Presets, Text, Graphical. The preset takes your text and replaces and bounces random characters in a random pattern. The default alternate character is a plus sign but you can change that to anything you like.Anyway, I'd like to apply the effect so that it starts at a specific point, plays for a second or two, and then stops. The settings have it so that it plays for a few seconds, pauses then plays again, on repeat. I've checked all of the different animation settings in the text layer, but I can't find a way to do this?I'm a bit new to After Effects and still learning, so this might be something obvious that I'm just missing. Hello, hope someone can help me.The error Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback keeps appearing in just one composition: The composition doesn't appear even in another composition:All the others function perfectly fine. Have any idea what should i do to fix it?I've tried all the tips like cleaning the data and cache, or change the maximum disk size and purge the ram and change the preview quality but nothing works.Thanks for reading! 

Hey guys,I am new to After Effects and am having an issue with the "Alphabetical Order" of my project panel.I bought a file/ template from someone and he has a tutorial on Youtube about how to create using his template. The issue that I am having is that in the Project Panel, when opening subfolders, the numbers aren't in chronological order, they just seem to be random.I have attached 2 photos, the first one (In Order) is showing that everything is in chronological order.The second picture shows that the numbers are scattered/ random.In the tutorial on Youtube, the guys numbers are in order. I contacted him and he said that it's not an issue, and that it may have something to do with a setting on my computer, but I would like to learn how to correct it so that I at least can set it up properly 🙂Thanks

Hey! This is a big idea that I've had on my mind for a while now. I would like to make a simple shape (let's say a circle), and show a speaking ring (just like discord does), when a specific layer audio file in Premiere is playing audio. Best example would be using the channels A1 and up to grab audio. Is that even remotely possible with AE mogrts? And if not, is there a way to do that within Premiere?

Recently noticed that anytime I use this effect it locks up my composition and then will grey the composition window out so I am not able to see any of the project anymore. All the other compositions wont render in anymore, cant hide/ reveal layers. Needs a restart, clearing the cache doesnt help.Anyone know whats going on? Cheers - Josh

This seems to be an extremely common issue and wondering if there's actually ever going to be any improvement? AE 2021 was working perfectly fine and now of course after updating to 23.3 - it's an absolute joke. Spending monthly on CC and these updates just go backwards instead of actually improving. What else to say except being completely frustrated - all the while - sure Adobe - keep taking my $
