After Effects

Last week, I updated my mac with the latest version of Adobe After Effects 2020.  I still kept the CC 2019 version installed just in case I had a difficult time opening my files.  Now when launching either CC 2019 / CC 2020 version of After Effects, I cannot open any of my previously created after effects files whatsoever.  I am getting the error message: After Effects Error: File Exists but couldn't be open for reading: "FILE NAME.aep" ( 3 :: 0) . At this point I really have no idea what to do to move forward. Any help is greatly appreciated.  

Hello,I need to edit and update an older project I created using the Plexus plugin. In AE 2024 and 2025.1 (the newest update as of now), I am no longer able to import an OBJ sequence (even with Plexus installed properly). It seems the import process reverts back to the native OBJ importer in AE, which only supports single OBJ files.The strange thing is that if I open and convert an old CC 2017 AE project, it correctly displays and works with the imported OBJ sequence. However, I cannot change or replace it with a new sequence—doing so results in the same import error.Is there a way to "force" AE to use the OBJ importer from the Plexus plugin rather than the native AE importer? (The Plexus plugin has been capable of importing OBJ sequences for more than seven years.)Another (less ideal) solution would be to install and use AE 2023, but in Creative Cloud, I can only go back as far as 2024—even though my subscription started earlier.Any thoughts or fixes? I want to dynamically center multiple (three, in this case) text layers as if they were one block, so no matter which of the three changes size (more text or font size change) the layers are, as one unit, centered vertically together. This is to be used with essential graphics, so it needs to be procedural. Also, this is text LAYERS, not just multiple-line text boxes (although this should accommodate the layers whether or not they have multiple lines). I have no problem centering (or bottom- or top-aligning) individual layers using sourceRectAtTime(). I center the middle layer's anchor point and, using the various layers' heights and tops I align the top and bottom layers relative to the center. All is good, they behave nicely together--now I just want the lot of them centered on the screen/in the comp. I'm thinking the way to go would be to parent the middle layer (because the top and bottom layers are relative to it) to a null, and somehow move the null's anchor point relat

I have a bunch of TIFF files I batch-processed in PS that include layer masks. I've imported these into AE as a TIFF Sequence, but apparently, AE can't render the layer masks correctly. It does not produce the desired effect.  Before I go batch-process each TIFF file again, applying the layer mask, is there something else I should try? Interpret Footage/Main Options tab doesn't allow me to select anything within the Alpha section; all the options are grayed out. I'm pretty sure AE can render PS files with layer masks, and I believe I've done it before. Why not TIFF files?What am I missing?Thanks. 

Hi there,Here's a very annoying issue I'm experiencing... After Effects freezes randomly when working on compositions containing video assets. Freeze starts with composition playback or scrubbing, then affects the whole UI, so I have to force exit the app. Composition settings : 1920 x 1080 25 fps.Footage : H264 or Apple ProRes (422 or 4444). After Effects version 25.1.0MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1Mac Studio 2023 - Apple M2 Max - 32 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD Thanks for your support, best regards,Julien

The geometry options - Extrusion Depth option not available on my after effects after switching to Cinema 4D. Curvature and Segments are listed but not extrusion depth.

I downloaded some presets that won't show up in my presets folder once I open After Effects. I'm assuming it's because I have the 2017 version and the presets were made in AE2018. Is there a way to get around this problem and get the presets to show up in my AE2017?

Hello,I am using After Effects latest version on macOS.AE version: 25.5.0 (Build 4)I’ve encountered the following issue:When I set in/out points for my composition and then use Composition > Trim Comp to Work Area, followed by Add to Render Queue, the undo history completely disappears. After that, I am no longer able to undo any of my previous actions, including the trim and render queue steps.This makes it impossible to revert changes or recover my previous project state.Could you please look into this issue?Thank you.

I'm using a 3D .glb and I need the Advanced 3D renderer but when I use any light, my scene is too dark. When I switch to the Classic or Cinema 4D, everything isn't too dark. Is there any settings I should fix? Many thanks.

Hello, late last week I updated After Effects to version 24 and immediately started acting up. When importing an .aep into a working project, it gives the error "An Internal Asset Numbering Conflict has ocurred", at first it seems harmless but then you realize it messed some comps badly, comps that weren't even open. It shifts layers to the [0,0] origin of the comp which requires manually putting them in the correct place. I thought maybe AE conflicted when importing projects that have assets, solids and nulls with the same names so I went and renamed all solids and nulls in that project I needed to import but it didn't solve the problem. Again it messed up my comps exactly as before.  Some other error messages I'm getting are "Strange situation 26::82" and "invalid text layer" - or something in that regard -.  I need to get this fixed soon, I can't work like this. I'm losing work done since I can't import it in main project. I downgraded my project and opened in AE 23 b

I'm using a template and when I add the picture where it needs to be, it will not let me resize it. I've made use i have it selected in the composition, pressed s for scaling and nothing has worked. Any help? 

Hi everyone,I’ve been experimenting with some projects where I want to animate numbers on screen so they count up dynamically, almost like a calculator in motion. For example, I’ve been building tools like this: https://ipptcalculators.com/, where values update instantly based on user input, and I’d love to recreate a similar feel visually inside After Effects.I’ve tried a couple of approaches, like expressions with time * value and using text layers. But they don’t always give me the smooth, professional look I’m aiming for.Does anyone here have tips or best practices for animating numbers that update realistically like in a fitness tracker, scoreboard, or calculator demo?Would you recommend expressions, plugins, or even exporting data from a spreadsheet / JSON?Thanks in advance 

Since the update when I hold the option key on any tool I no longer get the alternate function (i.e. zoom out on the zoom tool, open select on pen tool) but a camera tool. This is infuriating and I can't see where to change it back in preferences or keybaord shortcuts, can anyone help?

Mais une fois dans Premiere Pro, impossible d'activer ou de désactiver. Seule la première composition s'affiche masquant l'autre si je voulais activer l'autre.Comme je suis débutant avec les MOGRT, voici ce que j'ai fait : 1. ajouter de l'effet checkbox control sur chaque composition2. lien de l'opacité (effect("Checkbox Control")("Checkbox")*100) avec "checkbox" sur chaque composition3. I am new to after effect, I know absolutely nothing about this app. I am currently trying to make a Minecraft pvp montage and the footage is somehow slowed, I have no idea why and I thought it was because rendering, it's been 3 hours since it's rendering. Hey everyone,I just got a brand new high-performance PC, but I’m having serious issues running After Effects. The app freezes as soon as I try to play back a composition — the playhead doesn’t move, and I eventually have to force quit. My setupProcessor: Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 275HX (24 cores, up to 5.4 GHz, 36MB cache)RAM: 32GB PCS PRO SODIMM DDR5 4800 MHz (2 x 16GB)GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 5070Ti – 12GB GDDR7 (DirectX 12.2)Storage: 2x 1TB PCS SSD PCIe M.2 (3500 MB/s read, 3200 MB/s write)PC: Windows 11After Effects version: Latest (Creative Cloud) What’s happening:I can launch After Effects, create new compositions, add text, layers, effects — no problem there.But when I try to preview or play the animation, the timeline/playhead doesn’t move at all.The program then becomes unresponsive and I have to force quit it.No error message, just a freeze. What I’ve tried:Restarting the computerReinstalling After EffectsUpdating GPU drivers (NVIDIA)Disabling hardware acceleration

No idea why this is happening but layer order is not being respected in a simple precomp with basic vector shapes, compare inside precomp image to precomp in other comp: Was working 100% fine on one machine, jumped over to different Windows 10 machine with same version and getting this behavior. There is also a track matte pick whipped to revealing the light blue layer along x-axis but no 3D switches are enabled that would usually do this incorrect perspective error. All just flat 2D and not being displayed correctly outside a comp on one machin for some reason.

The grey section next to the cursor and those little ][ symbols - can we hide that? It just gets in the way for me and adds nothing  

At some point an AE version stopped the ability for an apple mouse to pan via scroll, but zoom via scroll+option. I am aware in preferences you can change this in v25.3, but this only adjusts for via a pan OR zoom on the apple mouse, so this is no good. I'm hoping Adobe will allow at some point a legacy option for this in some update, but until then- does anyone one know the latest version of AE where the mouse scroll+option for zoom was still an option? I installed a 24.1 but it didnt seem to work.

I'm not trying to bag on the Flowchart view comp window, but I've been using AE for years, and I don't use it. Can anyone share where it really added value for the project?

I'm trying to figure out how to apply an effect (time displacement) to my clip based on the brightness of the clip. In areas where the image is bright, the effect should be fully at work. In areas where the image is dark the effect shouldn't be applied. Could anyone help me with a process to do this? 

Anyone know how to create this text skew effect. If I animate and use skew it does using the top of the text but the bottom stays in the same spot. Thanks

I keep facing the problem, that After Effects as well as Premiere are crashing on startup. This is only happening on the newest version of 25.x, when I install an old version like 23.x, this problem wont occure.I've tried following potential solutions I've found in the www, unfortunately without success:- updating nvidia drivers- removing plug-ins from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore- resetting/removing preferences- uninstalling and reinstalling That's my rig:- Intel Xeon E5-1650 v4- GTX 1080 Ti- 32GB RAM- Windows 10 Version 22H2 Anyone got any recomondations how to solve this problem?Appreciate your help!  

Buongiorno a tutti, mi si presenta il seguente problema nell'utilizzare After effects aggiornato all'ultima versione: Praticamente il mouse si muove al rallentatore e se ne va per i fatti suoi, cosa che non succede in nessun altro programma. Lavoro benisimo in Premiere Pro, in Photoshop.... Come mai mi succede questo solo in After Effects?
