FrameMaker

Hello all, I'm using FrameMaker Version 17.0.3.546 My engineering organization is very afraid of change. We write procedures and organize the content as such: A. SECTION HEADER (These are always the same A-D) 1. Here is level1            a. Here is level2                      (1) level3 ... and so on until we get to a new page, where there is a reminder of all ancestor levels as such: -----NEW PAGE---- A. 1. a.                      (2) Here is a level3 step in the procedure that started a new page.                      (3) The next level3 step   I'm trying to set up a structured document so there is cross-referencing within the procedure and for other procedures, pagination is automatic, list of effective pages is created for the end-user, etc.   I think I can tackle a lot of these pr

Hi folks, I have yet another case with Adobe Enterprise support where the initial responses seems more focused on throwing solutions at the perceived problem, rather than attempting analysis of the provided logs and details of the problem. I must add that this experience is replicated across a number of different vendors I have dealt with. I am sure the first responders have to respond and move on quickly to the next. My frustration is with the process, and how the emphasis is on responding quickly, and not with a considered review! With Adobe Entreprise support however, my customers pay for the priviledge, and I have already done a lot of diagnosing. The product I mostly deal with is FrameMaker and the experience with case responses has been frustrating and generally the case has not been resolved. My current issue is with a 32-bit package of Acrobat Pro created in the admin Console that fails to install with a 'Package deployment failed due to mismatch of OS arhitectur

Using FrameMaker 2020 with Acrobat DC. Trying to generate a PDF file from a book. Getting the following mesage:  "FrameMaker could not find Adobe PDF printer instance, Which must be installed to execute Save as PDF command." Acrobat DC and Distiller are installed. Unable to install driver manually.   Any suggestions?   Tanks,

How can I make a change bar down along the side of a figure or table that is center across columns. I have no problem when the figure or table is inside the column even with two column documents. I have tried "across all columns" with two columns and with a side head column with no luck. I have also tried the different positions that the change bars can be placed. It will only place the change bar where the figure or table is anchored.  I have some examples if needed.Thanks,ls

Good evening,I installed Framemaker and when I open the program it looks nothing at all like the tutorials.  I have been unable to find a solution after hours of searching.

This is a long one to explain, so please bear with me.Im having an issue with the TOC, when i update the book the format of some of the chapters in the TOC is incorrect, see image below 6 is correct format, 7 is incorrect.so i go and just copy and paste chapter 6 heading into chapter 7, thinking the correct format would be copied over but it pastes in skewed, to the left, see below.I then went and double checked that every setting in the 'paragraph designer' tab matched between 6 and 7, which it did. It doesnt make any sense to me at this point! Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Hello,when generating HTML5 in the current version 16.05.1096, the generated TOC navigation bar no longer works. The faulty link does not lead to the .htm or the scripted ID, but to the programme folder:file:///C:/c:/program%20files/adobe/adobe%20framemaker%2020/filters?rhtocid=_4#998464bc-3How can this be fixed?

Hi everyone, Unfortunately, the FM2022 (with latest update installed) CMS SharePoint Online client gets stuck completely when trying to check out a file from a repository. It looks like a check-out/check-in timeout issue that also existed in the on-prem SharePoint CMS client and was fixed by Adobe in FM2020.Has anyone else encountered this issue with the SharePoint Online client?Thanks!

Hello...has anyone tried working with FrameMaker 2020 on Windows Virtual Machines? We got a Windows server license installed to enable multiple users to work in parallel on the VM. But FM keeps crashing. Its behaviour is random. Working fine for one user. Any thoughts or how to resolve this? Thank you.

Hello,I had to recreate a chapter in my book but the table in the new chapter don't follow suit with the rest of the book. I have clicked in the table title > format > document > numbering > volume > I selected Continue Numbering From Previous File in Book but that didn't change the table title.How do I reset all the table numbers? Cheers,Tina

I am not sure what the exact term is called, but is there a way to select words in FM without selecting the entire paragraph?  I posted an example of what I mean in the screenshot. In MS Word, I can do this by selecting the first word, and then holding down the CTRL key and selecting more. I need this function because I am applying styles to individual words in the character designer and it is time consuming to do it one section at a time. I apologize if this has been posted before. I could not find the exact keyboard shortcut I needed in the FM help info.

Hello.I make user manuals with FrameMaker, and I am working on a manual, when the PDF is printed, all graphics are moved. There is also a logo that should be on every page and it's just gone, also most text from the cover is out of place.I had been working on other files and this is the only one with this problem, but I don't know how to fix it.Thank you.

I know how to add them so they are displayed (Right click TOC>Set up TOC & include subheading level 2), thats not the issue. The issue is im trying to add them in the same format as the existing TOC, see below circled level 2 headingsWhen i click view reference pages it seems to contain the script for the TOC (admittedley, im venturing into unknown territory for me here). I have messed around with it a bit, trying to add in level two subheadings where the arrow is in the image below, but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. Does anyone know what im doing wrong?

Hi, Everyone: I'm having a problem where the Adobe PDF driver keeps getting removed from my computer. Three weeks ago, I went through manual steps to install and rename the driver. Yesterday, I saw that there is a patch available, so I installed that. Same thing happened today... Here are the steps to reproduce:1. Open and use FrameMaker2. Connect to my company VPN.3. Lock and leave the computer.4. Return. When I return, I have a message that my selected fonts are not available, and I check to see that the Adobe PDF print driver is gone again. I'm running FrameMaker 17.0.3.546 on Windows 11. Is this an issue that I need to report and escalate to my IT department? Thanks!Cindy 

I am typesetting a large  book with a lot  of full page images. I use a special blank master page for this with a single un-anchored frame on each. But when I import my graphics into the frame, the "the fit to frame" feature does not seem to be working. It works in anchored frames, though. Is there some sort of logic to this?

Hello,I am trying to make a layout inside Frame Maker, by putting several text frames inside the page (with the text frame button at left). But I don't see any smart guides between these text frames : by example, if I want to align two text frames, I would like to see some smart guides between these two text frame.How to see these smart guides ? 

Hi everyone, It seems that the FM2022 ES client is buggy. An event-driven script that works perfectly well in FM2020 doesn't work at all in FM2022. The script just saves an active file as FM13 upon FA_Note_PostSaveDoc. Has anyone encountered this issue? P.S.: I've updated FM2022 to the latest build -- same issue. Thanks!

I have a ditamap containing about 30 referenced topics. I can open all files in the ditamap, but I want to adjust the page scrolling view option so that pages are vertical (not side by side). How can I do this for multiple topic files at once???In unstructured framemaker, you can select files and go to View/Options and set the page scrolling preference for all selected files with one click. In a Ditamap, though, this View-Options command is available only for each separate dita topic file (not for multiple selected ones and not for the ditamap), which means I have to open each topic file and set each file's page scrolling preference separately. Clearly this is not a doable workflow (and we expect to have much larger ditamaps in future.)What's the trick???

I'm curious if anyone has come across this issue and how they resolved it. I am new to FM but even our IT folks cant figure out what is going on. When I use FrameMaker almost every time it deletes the fonts that are being used in the document and we have to reinstall them all over again to my computer. They aren't just deleted from FM, but from my entire computer. I have seen posts about how it can happen and that you have to reinstall them, but this happens almost every time I use FM and I can't keep reinstalling them several times a day. Has anyone found a permanent solution or perhaps what I am doing wrong that is causing this? Thank you. 

Hi, I'm new to framemaker, taking over froma colleague who left the company.We have existing documentation stored in GIT and I don't seem to be able to open it, anybody using GIt with framemaker ? How do you acces your doc?Thanks.
