Can I crop images in Adobe Frame Maker?

Hello. I am looking for a license to run FrameMaker 6 for Unix. I have files from graduate school I want to recover and convert to PDFs. I'm searching ebay and amazon, though no luck so far.

How can I hyperlink a heading of one chapater to the heading of another chapter in a Frame Maker book?

I use FrameMaker daily, and at the Custom Ruling and Shading function, I have conflicts, causing a critical error 16014 to appear on screen and then abruptly closing the program. Does anyone know what causes this, and what you can do about it?   Regards, Bert Witsmeer [PII removed by moderator]  

I'm not sure if this is a Frame question, an Adobe Distiller question, or a Windows question. Adobe TCS 2019 running on Windows 11.i9 CPU, 32GB RAM, all SSD storage.700-page book with many graphics (linked TIFF, PNG, PDF files).Printing the book to PDF using "Press Quality" settings (for handing off to a commercial printer) takes over 30 minutes to run. However, checking system monitor under Windows during the process, neither RAM nor CPU utilization ever even comes close to maximum; typically stays around 50%. It seems like a large portion of the time the system is idling (or close to it). How do I tell Frame, or Distiller, or Windows to "USE MOAR CPU!" so that the task completes faster rather than just meandering at its own pace? I realize that modern Windows and CPUs are geared towards multithreaded/multitasking. In the days of yesteryear when everything was singlethreaded, if you wanted better performance, just get a faster CPU. That doesn't appear to be the way

My work computer was recently upgraded to Windows 11 Pro (I run unstructured FM), and I find that when I resize artwork in a frame or select Ctrl+Alt and click on a link, it will often (20% of the time?) freeze up and I am forced to open Task Manager and hit 'End Task.'  Any ideas? 

I am working in structured FM 2022 and using the Mekon Eclipse for S1000D add-on. I need to use .cgm images with hotspots and specific width lines as per the Spec V2.2.I only have Solidworks Composer to create my .cgm images and they seem ok before they are imported by FM. When the image is converted by FM, the lines are wrong and the hotspots are not recognised.Can anyone suggest where I am going wrong, as images from the S1000D bike pack with hotspots work ok?

FrameMaker 11 case. Depending on how to save dita or ditamap to PDF the element order will be different. I have a following structure in FrameMaker dita (which is part of a ditamap):<fig outputclass="something"><title>TEXT</title> <image feature="x" brand="y" xtrf="../../z.eps" href="/z.eps" align="left" placement="break" width="4.549in" height="4.170in"/></fig>If I choose Save as... > PDF... the result is fine. Title comes first and image after that. But if I want to save the whole ditamap as one and choose Save Ditamap As > PDF... the result is wrong. Image comes first and title after that. Also, if I save the ditamap first to FrameMaker book, after that this happens:If I choose option Save Book As... > PDF... the result is fine (title comes first and image after that). But if I choose option Save Book As... > PDF with components image comes first. Does anyone know what FrameMaker does differently in these actions?

Hi, I have a valid ditamap with id values on the concepts. When I save the ditamap as a Composite FrameMaker document, my concept id values are getting replaced by ids generated by FrameMaker. Any idea how to prevent this? I am using FrameMaker 2022, the latest update.

  FMjsxLib as described on https://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker88.html has now reached version 1.8. It comprises about 240 functions, mostly accompagnied by a demo script. The documentation is about 380 pages (of which 70 are a Table of FrameMaker commands). ► For the time being I will not continue work on this project.

Hello,I have done Insert/Image in order to import an SVG (made with Illustrator).But at the screen I have a strange display (see red arrows). Even if I refresh (Control+L), it does not solves the problem. And at the print (with FM) I have the same problem. 

I ran across a peculiarity while I was trying to export a couple of  two-page FM files to PDF. In each FM file, one page was blank and the other had a full-page Photoshop .psd graphic. (These are the front and back covers of a book .) No matter how I tried to create the PDF (Save As PDF, Print to PDF), the routine would hang on the page with the graphic and I had to go into the task manager and kill FM. The .psd files were imported by reference and were reasonably large, as one would expect of full-page Photoshop graphics with layers. (One was 66 MB, the other was 48 MB.) After spending a good bit of time trying to force FM to make PDFs of these two files, I relented and went back into into Photoshop,  exported the graphics to .jpg files, and then reimported them into FM. Shazam, FM was able to make PDFs of these new files. Does anyone know why this is happening?  Thanks in advance!

Hello,I have a very simple full-page graphic that will not properly import into FM. The graphic started out as a Photoshop file and I have tried importing it into FM as a .jpg, a .psd and a .pdf. (This is a print job so I'm in CMYK and am not using png. ) When I try the .jpg or .psd import, the white gradient bar and logo disappear but the blue background color remains true. A .pdf import gets all the content but the background and the logo colors change by lightening up and becoming a lot more luminescent.  I flattened the Photoshop file before trying to import is as a native file into FM but that didn't work, and of course the jpg file doesn't have layers at all. The PDF file doesn't have layers either. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!Bill    

Hello to everyone. I have problem with very long FrameMaker document which is originally created on english with alphabetical index on the end. Now I have translation on cyrillic and everything fine but when I start updating of index nothing happen and I need to have cyrillic index!I thought that the index would be automatically generated from the original references to the terms (which are now Cyrillic) in the text, but this does not happen. On the contrary, after the update, all references (contents, titles, ...) are renewed, but the index remains in English.Any advice? Thank you.

Hello,I have done Insert/image, so I have the image inside a frame. Then I have moved the image outside the frame by moving it with the mouse in order to put it at a specific place.But I have noticed that if I resize the image, it distorts the image : I have tried to do graphic/scale and selected "keep aspect ratio", but the image does not go back to the original aspect ratio.How to keep all the time the aspect ratio in order to do not distort the image ?

I am getting book error report when trying to generate TOC in Frame maker. Please suggest solution. I am attaching screenshot for reference. 

I have created a .sts file to import a Microsoft Word document into FrameMaker, matching all of the Word Headings to the FrameMaker Paragraph Styles. I love this feature. Is there any way to do this backwards? To go from FrameMaker to Microsoft Word and preserve all of those Headings/Paragraph Styles? I know I can create a PDF and then export to a Word file, but I don't belive that preserves the Paragraph Styles. I have read a little about RTF files but it sounds like I would run into the same issue?

Hello,I have scanned a technical book in PDF by using Acrobat Pro.In the scanned PDF file I have made a screenshot of this graphic :But inside Frame Maker if I made File/Import/File, the result on the Frame maker document is not good.What do you advise me to do in order to import graphics from this scanned PDF, with a good quality result inside Frame maker ?

Hello, I have been seeing numbers appear at the top of some of my tables and anchored frames, I belive they are there as a result of cross-referencing? Is there a way to make these numbers dissappear? Initialy I thought it was just a text symbol but it did not go away when I published to PDF. 

hi all, I am on FrameMaker 17 and would like to know if anyone has converted an interactive PDF from PPT (essentially a PPT file with master pages and hyperlinks) into FM that can be then published online via RoboHelp? If anyone has any bit of experience in this it woud be super helpful. My source document is in Word with styles identified for headings and paragraphs. I have a Proof of concept in PPT that shows the interactive links I would like to have to link to content.  Is it easier to convert from PPT to FM to RH or do I convert from Word (my source content) and build all my interactions from scratch in FM using Master Pages? thanks in advance

Hi, I can´t get the hyperlinks in the TOC on my PDF to link to the headings in the document. I use Framemaker version: 17.0.2.431. Below is a description on how I create the TOC in Framemaker (instructed by a colleague of mine for whom it works). Insert>Table of Contents>Create standalone TOC>Create StandaloneI choose which chapters to include, check the box “Create Hypertex Links” and then klick OK.A new file Is created which I save on my computer.I go to the first page of my document, the File>Import>File>select the previously savedTOC document>ImportI create a book, saves the book, and open it in Acrobat Pro. The bookmarks look great, all the links in the PDF works except for the ones in the TOC. Can you tell what´s missing to make the TOC work properly?
