InDesign

I was applying some A-Master for a book i?m making, but turns out that when I apply it, it appears this object that I cannot take off completely, and it's strange, since on the design of the A-Master there is no such thing. And besides, that A-Master applies to the other page without me even considering it, it`s kinda strange. Don't know if somebody over here have had an issue like this.

Background is our project is using InDesign server to trigger PDF generation function through SOAP call at backend. We are using InDesign server 2023 (18.xx) and use InDesign 2023 desktop tool to edit/develop INDT file.  As time goes by, InDesign 2023 can't download anymore from CC desktop app, Adobe only allows to install one previous version. It’s 2025 now(20.xx), only 2024(19.xx) is available. Our company starts to use Adobe Enterprise license, we have to re-install InDesign desktop tool with latest version, then 2023 will disapper in our laptop. Install process is automated, we can't control to keep 2023. Upgrade InDesign server is potential option, but will bring a lot of dev and test effort, related legacy system of this project will also be reitred in 2-3 years. So am worndering if it's possible to get 2023 install package or any other suggections for current situation.  

Hi. I know of a preference or pulg-in so that when you're in an InDesign file, the InDesign icon appears next to the file name and when you click on it it takes you to the parent folder in Finder. Don't know what this is called so have had no luck with searches. Any help please?

Hello, How can I adjust the text content so that the right sdie of the text box page doesn't show so many blank spaces.I tried to move the word up to the space however it won't stick. I never had this problem before and wonder how it happened. Oz

Hi all, I've done programming for some time.  PHP, VB, VBA etc.  SOME JS but not extensive.   I decided I wanted to try to do some InDesign Scripts for things I do repeatedly.  I went to the getting started guide at https://developer.adobe.com/indesign/1688653963277/guides/getting-started/ .  Just to try it, I copied the code for the "Hello World" and saved it in my Scripts folder.  TaDA it showed up.  BUT when I attempt to run it I get this error:  I've gone down all kinds of rabbit holes doing research but can't figurre out what is happening wrong.  It is the var myDocument = app.documents.add(); line that is causing the issue.  I attempted to try to figure it out BUT the only thing I've found is the UXP Plugin that Adobe has.   Did that replace scripts?  All of the links from the scripting page get 404 errors.    Thanks for your help.  

Hi all, Is there a way to get small caps and mediaeval numbers in an epub3. I have tried a lot of options but none seem to work. Best sofar was to reuce font size for small caps, but it still doen not look acceptable.

Hello everybody,I have recently started working on creating accessible PDF documents. For this I use InDesign and Acrobat Reader on my Mac. For verification, I use Acrobat Reader and callas pdfGoHTML.I understand that a table is accessible if there is a header row tagged "TH" and if the cells are tagged "TD". My question is about a table that was originally supposed to be displayed with colored boxes only, to indicate whether something applies or not. Since I was not supposed to replace the boxes with text, I looked for symbols for both fields and added a legend to them. This should make the table recognizable as such.However, I'm not sure if this is actually a solution in terms of accessibility. After all, presumably only the name of the symbol would be read out to a screen reader, which could potentially lead to confusion. Or am I wrong about that?My second approach was to try to add alternative text to the icons. However, alternate text can only ever be attached to complete frames,

I have text frames with the exact same settings—(even double checked by copying the text frame onto the page with the error, and the same issue persists)—extra space is being added after the intentional top inset. If I remove the top inset in the text frame options, the text remains in the same place (the second image "Nighttime...). The "Nighttime..." line should be touching the inner blue line. Strangely, one whole section of pages has this issue, another section of pages does not have the issue. Whatever the fix is—I will need to apply to many text frames across many pages... Thanks in advance for the help! 

I have earlier been able to create indexes of keywords starting with a number, such as "1734 års lag". Now it doesn't work either in CC2025, CC2024 or CC2022. Indesign crasches as I hit ok in the add index post dialog.I also tried to just select "års lag", an then add the "1734" manually in the dialog, but with the same result.I have restarted programs and computer. Working in Sonoma 14.5 on a macbook pro, 2021.What is the problem?  

Every morning I start with a cup of coffee and an Adobe-problem to solve! Today the problem is that my Page Thumbnails turned blank. Out of no where. It has something to do with Adobe fonts? There seem to be a background task running in the background about fonts.Please Adobe dev's. Fix your flipping problems. This is getting super annoying.Working without page thumbnails is very tricky, and takes a lot more more and room for error. Please let me know how to fix the problem. 

Hi friends!After having given up my hope in producing my current major project (700 pg scholarly edition of  ancient texts with comments and notes) in MS Word, which simply cannot cut it, I am moving everything to ID. No easy task. But I think it will pay off in the long run.Presently I am looking for an add on helping me to create a good 4 level (sometimes) index. In Word I had an add on that shows the entry hirarachy in a tree form (i.e. Places; Asia; India; Calcutta etc) and let's me add branches directly from that tree view and then mark entries based on that hirarachy.Is there anything even remotely similar for ID? ThanksSF

I understand that there is a script to easily assign an export to PDF in printers spreads (printerspreads.jsx) however, I cannot find this in my system or where I might download.  I need to be able to export the catalog without adjusting manually.  New to INDD so any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

I’m working on a multi-page InDesign document and every time I place new text, it causes the existing content to reflow or shift. Is there a way to lock the layout or prevent this text reflow when adding new content? I want to maintain my current design structure. Thanks!

Hi all,I'm having an issue on Windows 11 with InDesign GPU Performance detecting the wrong graphics card. I've searched for an answer to this everywhere else I can think of without success. I have two graphics cards, Intel(R) UHD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU:InDesign is set to High Performance in Windows graphic settings.NVIDIA GPU is set as the Windows system default.InDesign is set to use the system default in NVIDIA control panel.I just updated the NVIDIA driver.But when I go to Edit > Preferences > GPU Performance in ID, it shows the Intel GPU:I can't figure out how to get ID to detect and use my NVIDIA GPU.Display settings:I found the IDSniffer file, but I'm not sure how to share it here. It's an enormous blob of text. Hey there. I have made a document which contains embedded YouTube videos which I have published online. When viewing the document on a desktop computer everything appears fine and the videos play as normal however when accessing the link on a smartphone the videos do not appear. They are present because f I tap where they are located the audio begins to play but the video itself does not show. Is there any way around this as I suspect the main way that the audience of the document will access it will be through a smartphone. I have tried this on IOS using Safari and Chrome and neither work. Although it works fine on Android. Is there any way this can work without making significant changes to my InDesign file? I have tried using inserted videos instead of embedded videos but this didn't work as the file size was too large to publish online.   Thanks!

And then dump those words at the present location with commas between them. I am using InDesign CC and my Shift-Drag to constrain in a direction has stopped working. Also my Option-Drag to duplicate has stopped working. Both work fine in Illustrator. Any help is appreciated....

HelloI'm working on a 500-page document in InDesign 18 containing an index of approximately 2,000 names. The indexing was done in Word, but upon import, I realized I'd lost some indexes. So I completed it in InDesign. Halfway through the 500 pages, I launched an index generation to show the author. There were no issues.Now, I'm nearing the end of the work and I want to launch the index. It immediately tells me that the index cannot be generated due to invalid characters. But how can I find these characters? I've reread it several times and can't find anything unusual.I used the KPS Index Editor script, which didn't find any errors. I'd like to be able to export this index so I can analyze it better and find the problem.Do you have any ideas to help me complete this work? 

Hi all, I've downloaded a handfull of fonts from Adobe Fonts, and they're not showing in InDesign. They're showing up fine in Illustrator & Photoshop. I've tried clearing cache, logging out and back into my acccount, closing and reopening the app, checking creative cloud and turning off my computer. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Cheers.

Years, years I tell you, of InDesign forgetting my Workspace over various versions and preference and Workspace resets and complete uninstalls and reinstalls.  Since Adobe doesn't care, I sicced ChatGPT on it, I gave it the name of my custom Workspace (which you should be using anyway), and it created a file called "SetDefaultWorkspace.jsx" that you drop into the folder inside the ID application folder: Scripts > Startup scripts. I had it create the code and create the file so i could simply download it. When I set the Workspace to something else and then quit the app and rebooted it, my workspace was selected as the default; every time. This ends those annoying popups Adobe won't give us control over. The only way to avoid them is to create a Workspace, use a startup script as outlined above, so that ID doesn't think you're a newbie.The propt would be something like: Create an Indesign startup script called SetDefaultWorkspace.jsx that I can download,

Saved my Illustrator document PDF and added a new layer. Now I have to click this OK a hundred times to relink each instance of the PDF. This needs an "OK to all" or "Do not show this again" button.

Ok so I know about the afterOpen event and I think I understand how to use it, however, I don't understand how to make it open for a specific document.I don't want this script to run on every document that I open, I want to embed it in a documnt and then run it everytime I open that document. Is this possible?Perhaps run the script from scripts label?Or would I just put a script in the startup panel and then create a session script that checks the name of each document opened and then runs the script if I have a match?Thanks

I'm having trouble exporting a PDF from an InDesign document that previously exported without any issues. It's a 196-page travel brochure that I've exported for print last year with no problems.Now, after revisiting the file, InDesign refuses to export the PDF. There are no missing links, and I've checked for any common errors. Nothing seems out of place, but the export just won't complete. Has anyone experienced this with large documents or after revisiting older projects? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
